- An open conversation with Rex Murphy about the modern state of education, politics, identity, and new media. Recorded in early September. For those international viewers, unfamiliar with Canadian media, it will be useful for you to know that Rex Murphy is one of Canada's premier journalists: tough, truthful, politically correct, and possessed of a singular style and character. It was both an honor and a pleasure to meet him. I highly recommend his channel. Podcast available at bit.ly/RexJordan

Good to have you back Dr. Peterson!
Happy to have you back.
I miss you Dr. Peterson. Just wanted to say you've help me turn my life around and I hope you're doing well. Take care.
Hope your family is better and you find yourself well!
Having this broken up like this is awesome thank you
Peterson. You were the first person to be proud of me. Ever.
I met you for 10 seconds, and you knew how much it meant to me to see you. You just kept repeating 4 words. "I'm proud of you."
You had tears in your eyes. You truly meant it. That moment, as well as hundreds of other small moments you influenced by your book and podcasts, has absolutely changed my life.
I am truly still alive because at the height of my nihilism and self loathing, you had honest words of encouragement that I never experienced before.
Thank you Peterson. I'll never stop telling this story.
Wow I have tears in my eyes man. He's more than we deserve, I just...
Thank you for sharing that with me, I am proud of you too. Blessings

Congratulations brother that is incredible news. Keep up the phenomenal work and good luck as you continue to find out how far you can go.

Wow that's amazing!
Detox a week and 2 months in rehab... I have meaning in my life and I am responsible for it.
Peterson told me that I am ok and I am worth it. I am a 40 year old grown up 👆 😁
Which book did you read?
Hope you're doing well, Dr. Peterson.

Rex Murphy is known for being many things - acerbic, biting, witty and merciless to his detractors. But after seeing this interview, one could easily add caring, compassionate and dare I say it, gentle. The treatment given to Dr. Peterson in consideration of his condition was so moving. Rex, you too are a good man.

They broke Jordan. I feel bad about this. Being hammered by lunatics is painful and this poor man was a liberal who was hounded off the emotional cliff. He stood strong but finally, due to his wife's health problems, he is now hurting. I hope he takes a long vacation. What annoys me, though, is him saying, 'I am getting OLD...nearly SIXTY.' Um, I am seventy and fought like a fiend all my long political life. Still fighting.
When Peterson breaks down it gets to me. I think he knows from his own depression what hell is. And still he has the courage to point to the light. God Bless you brother.

That's "Dr." Peterson.
Jordans' pure emotion starting @18:25 is something to behold. I absolutely love this man. I can not state that as profoundly as I feel it's warranted. He is so intrinsically powerful, yet so fragile when it comes to others pain and his affect as serving as a beacon, of sorts..... idk...
I only know that I am forever grateful that the world has this man in it.
I just want to give him a hug. He's such a GREAT man and educador ❤
He saved me from the whole social justice psychosis.
That was my first vibe too... That I wanted to hug him.
@Todd Starbuck hahahaa
its controversial here but this seems to me to be a loong episode of victim Olympia, Jordon sounds like he is constantly crying about his recent past, which, lets face it is nowhere near as bad as a lot of people in the world right now and im not quite sure what the point of this discussion is about except to reinforce the idea that mr. Peterson has been through a lot recently. Although I have never read 12 Rules i am sure there is plenty of advice in there about getting over yourself and getting on with your life minus the victimhood mentality. I know this is not the right place to say it but I am being sincere here, wtf is this person getting so upset about??
@@l000tube I think he's a bit overwhelmed by all that has happened recently in his life - the good and the bad. Dr. Peterson also struggles with clinical depression. I have read 12 Rules and am familiar with his other work, and he certainly doesn't advocate a victimhood mentality. I think he's just worn down, physically and mentally. If you're new to Dr. Peterson, I would recommend checking out other interviews, and his actual work -- I don't think this interview is the best or most accurate representation of him.
H B actually this interview is a perfect representation of him.

It’s not Mr Petersons intellect and mind that makes him incredible BUT his heart to speak truth to challenges all of us to be a better people!!! Thanks Jordan Peterson for your HEART.

I am so glad that he and his wife are on the other side of recovery and they are getting better. Keep your chin up, Dr. Peterson, and stay strong. You are a wonderful man.
This interview is from a month ago, but all the same I’m glad Jordan is posting again. I hope you’re doing well, Dr. Peterson
Wasn’t this back in July? The interview is also up on Rex’s channel.
@V J heh. I don't think it is an insane asylum as much as it is a rehab center.
I've been noticing that Peterson has been caring a lot of emotional pain in his voice lately. Sounds like he's on the constant edge of tears, when not in actual tears.
Whether it be caused by the immense suffering from his wife's health condition, the massive passion he takes in his work, or perhaps even a bit of both, God save his soul. With the amount of terrible I see in the in the public world today, it is so reassuring that there are beacons of light to look to.
Thank you Jordan, I know you've changed my life along with many others. With that, stay strong and pull through.
At this time he was on a benzodiazipine that caused a lot of side effects. He was trying to get off but the particular one he was on caused terrible withdrawal symptoms for ridiculously long. He's OK now but at this time he wasnt feeling well. Look at his hands, he has so much anxiety at this point.
He has been addicted to drugs a long time. Hopefully he gets clean and sober.
@@FathomlessJoy why are you talking out of your ass???????? I've watched every single jbp video as well as 99% of all Michaela Peterson videos and nowhere has it been even implied that Jordan has been "addicted to drugs for a long time". Seriously, are you friends of the family? That's the only way you'd possibly be given the inside scoop as to whether he's an addict lol. Jordan suffers from extreme anxiety and has described situations that are obviously panic attacks. He has legit reason to be prescribed benzos of one type or another to take when he feels the onset of a crippling and in many cases dangerous (if he needs to drive somewhere, passing out from a panic attack is a high possibility). He was having side effects from the particular type of benzo he was on and sought help as he found that he couldn't simply stop by himself as the withdrawal period from benzos if super long and can last 7 days (that's not including the months of post acute withdrawal that's in ways worse). Seriously, you shouldn't talk out your ass and try to denigrate and drag an amazing man's name through the mud by calling him a long time fucking addict when you obviously aren't privy to that information.
@@FathomlessJoy Addicted to drugs? That sounds like a vicious, unfounded rumor to me. I have heard about his current condition and nowhere is an ongoing drug addiction mentioned.
@@jayrut1452 Well you are wrong. His daughter came out and told the public. He was too ashamed and/or cowardly to admit it himself. So who/what is being malicious/unfounded now?

Just gotta say.... No-Homo, but I love Dr. Peterson. As a mentor to myself and countless other men (and women, I must fair) I watched this with barely concealed tears. This man has suffered so much, selflessly, emotionally and physically. Why? 'Cos he stood up for us. All of us, who care about honest education and respectful discourse, regardless of our own beliefs. The right to be heard, and the respect to listen; two concepts that used to go hand in hand, are being disregarded in place of a group-think, conform or be destroyed mentality based on zero logic, and ignorant of basic biology!
I wish we could encircle him and hug him and just drain all the tears from him.

Dr Peterson is definitely one of the brightest minds and intellectual thinkers of our time. He is an inspiration and a beacon of hope for truth seekers. I understand his sadness and I pray for him and his wife. I hope to one day see him smiling at the thought of all the people he has touched instead of frowning. See, he is a messenger not a martyr, it is not his burden to bear.
He’s still trying to grasp all the major changes in his life, such as his newfound popularity as well as his wife’s health. Major shifts occurring while he is approaching his 60’s. Life has a way of keeping us in awe. He needs rest. Rest of his mind. Rest of his spirit. Rest of his body. And once he has processed the major shifts of his life, he will come back stronger.

Rex with the absolutely brilliantly statement at 43:11:
"identity politics makes the individual the simple avatar of the collective-- and everything that attaches to him is always extrinsic and not essential."
How precisely this sums up the mental processes involved in this brand of thinking is awe inspiring.
What do you mean by extrinsic and essential, here?
@@ntl9974 all of his properties (opinions, personality traits, status) are a simple result of institutional biases manipulating him. Even those "properties" (race, gender, class, etc.) are merely invented by institutions for the express purpose of manipulation. As a result of this line of thinking, identity politics asserts that everything is extrinsic and malleable, a truly communist perspective.
Hey Dr.Peterson, good to see you.
I feel the only way I can help him is to take heed of his advice and become that upstanding member of the comunity we all should thrive to be.
That's what smart people do....follow positive mentors.
L3eh123 that’s the ticket. Jesus told his disciples “if you love me, keep my commandments.” I’m not saying Peterson is like Jesus. Just pointing out that the highest form of love and devotion is obedience.

Jordan Peterson wanted the best for so many people and I can't find anything to disbelieve that. The good thing is he has already helped so many of us, and it's our job to carry the flag for him. I really hope that he's doing okay, and that he gets the good he deserves in this world.
Couldn’t agree more! It’s our time, while he’s recouping. We all have become the Slayers of our own and the world’s Dragons! (Once ur rooms are in order)
The reason of Dr Peterson's popularity is that people are longing for normality. After watching CNN for 10 min., they like to have a very smart man to tell them they're not the ones who are insane.
That statement itself was brilliant... just sayin'.
What kind of idiot thinks watching 10 seconds of CNN is worthwhile? Or ANY mainstream media.
I cried for almost the entire interview... it's impossible not to feel your sincerity. Thank you for being an exemplary human being! Kind regards from Slovenia.
Denis Bornsek you are what's wrong with the world today. Men acting like mice. Cried the whole video.lol.
Christopher Morrissey what does it matter? We all respond to experiences in each of our lives in our own separate ways. Truly, what is wrong with the world, is people saying others are wrong with the world.
@@itstheotherwhitemeat Thank you for you're concern. I never thought I will get a replay that's negative, thank you for the experience. :)
Lack of compassion and judgment (which usually stands on very little experience and knowledge)from our limited perspective is literally killing humanity. I truly feel sorry for people who limit themselves like that, because it prevents them to grow.
I hope you will realise one day that life is not black and white and that your in this case very limited knowledge and experience of who I am is exactly that. :)
You made me think and for that I am grateful.
I wish you a wonderfuly positive day!
Christopher Morrissey yeah god forbid that men display emotion right? If you want to live like a sociopath that’s your prerogative I guess
@@artistp8211 that's right, we all do respond different yet when its not the way you all feel it is some how wrong or a down fall for humanity. "what does it matter". well if you have mice running around then the dogs will always win... grow up and have a back bone.
JBP!! You’ve been missed. Hope you’re doing better and we look forward to more of your meaning making.
Thanks for changing my life for the better 🙏 🦞
This reminds me of a powerful memory of my dad. He is a rediculously level-headed guy. He takes everything in stride (lay-offs, bad economy, my mom's cancer, everything) and I swear that Stoicism was invented by people like him. I was 22 the first time I saw my dad cry (or become significantly emotional about anything) when we were cleaning out his parents' house after they passed. It was clear the task of picking through the house he grew up in wasnt easy for him. At one point he picked up a letter (no idea what it's about; I didnt dare read it) written to his parents when he was a child and he lost it. It killed something in me to see that and I felt gutted for the rest of the week. Seeing my dad and Dr. Peterson (both are dear, wise, and powerful influences in my life) hurt like this is the emotional equivalent of an earthquake. The foundation(s) I've relied on to be solid and support what I'm building lurch violently and there's nothing I can do about it
@@sirenwatcher Well said! Subtle but also firm. I am glad to see you, people, expressing such elaborate feelings and thoughts. It takes a lot of strength to show your weaknesses. This is a part of becoming a MAN (/ or a HUMAN, spiritually). Respect to both of you!
Something about seeing Peterson move forward in the face of depression and life's suffering is profound. What a leader. What an example.
Wow, “What a leader.”
No dude, what a cult member you are!

My heart goes out to Jordan. He is still very fragile, and yet super strong at the same time. He has helped so many, including myself, and now he needs our love and support in his suffering. God bless you, Jordan. I wish you and your family good health and peace of mind.
So refreshing to see an interviewer not trying to hound Dr. Peterson into a adversarial "discussion". Respect for Rex increases even higher. A great video and discussion to watch. Thank you.
It's interesting that Rex Murphy used to host of a radio show (still ongoing, I think, with a different host) called _Cross Country Canada_ where he would cover some controversial topic, usually with a guest, and then open the phone lines to basically anyone who wanted to call in. Rex always gave each person a chance to say their piece, and was always tolerant and respectful of each caller, even if he clearly disagreed. I guess I'm saying that he's had a lot of practice participating in and hosting non-adversarial discussion, even though he himself can be very opinionated in other formats, such as opinion articles or monologues/rants. I don't agree with everything Rex says, but I do highly respect his ability to host civil discussions and interviews.
Exactly. I just subscribed to his channel! Im looking forward to his content!
This was just a softball piece to spam around to try to salvage his image.
@@FathomlessJoy his image doesn't need "salvaging"

Thank you for being real and holds the TRUTH
Damnit, hearing him break and tear up breaks my heart. I know the pain knowing your wife is sick, my wife had Cancer for 5 years and she passed away and to have that person get sick, can break a person from the pressure. He helps people and wants to help so many people and takes the time to talk to people while he is going through so much himself. Just amazing, lots of strength and the interview is great. Lots of prayer that you and your family get well. Take your time.

I stumbled across Peterson shortly before he blew up. Listened to a lot of his posted class lectures because I am curious that way. Now, I dip in and out of his interviews because he is such a powerful thinker, a little goes a long way. And listening to him always changes me. So I have to weigh how much I want to risk being changed in some fundamental way before I click. But I figured this would be a safe summary, a series of highlights, a montage of the good times. But no, you did it again Peterson. There you go offering up a another slice of reality that changes my fundamental orientation to it.

@Memento Mori I saw you crying when your little daughter was in excruciating pain from an illness that was rare and not understood. I saw you crying when you're wife became terminally sick. I saw you crying when made all your personal relationships on the upswing. I saw you cry when your dad finally gave you recognition after you wanted to transition.....
@Memento Mori You reaction just makes me laugh... I wish you some grace mister manly man! I pity you way more for believing in what you claim, then I pity mr. Peterson for his tears.... and the sad thing is that I can't even mansplain to you why I pity you more :P. Besides... I don't feel pity for a man that cries for the pain of others, I can only greatly admire that!
Best interviewer of Peterson yet, in my humble opinion.
Yes I think you are right. Rex did not put a foot wrong. It was an elegant dance in a storm.
I get emotional listening to Dr. Peterson often but this interview was painful in the suffering apparent for a man who I hold in the deepest affection and respect. Someone commented to suggest a Nobel peace prize and even that would be too little a recognition of his wisdom and contribution to Western society.
