This situation offered a golden opportunity to ask Jordan with numerous questions and learn. However, George chose to speak at length about what he already knew, missing out on the chance to learn something new. The key lies in posing questions and engaging in active listening.

And George, just a suggestion. Next time when you ask questions to your guest, don't be a journalist who attacks their guests with questions before they even fully answer the questions asked. Let them answer, and then move on to the next one, one question at a time, brother, and thoughtfully (like your wife did). I know you might be too overwhelmed in this one, but for the next ones, take this into account. Love you, man.

George I love your content and will never miss an episode but your dialogue in this interview was very tough to watch. A lot of questions seemed forced and also there were way too many moments where you didn’t let JP finish his thoughts, especially the part where he’s talking about his wife’s fatal illness and you interrupt out of nowhere and ask what it did to him to see his wife almost die without knowing God..
Shoutout to Belle for being so genuine and keeping the balance in the interview and JP for being so patient.
I hope you’re able to learn from the light jab where he brought up why Joe is so good at what he does and use that to better yourself as an interviewer.
Nonetheless, amazing episode and love to watch you on this journey of growth!

After a few mintues of watching, my first thought was, this podcast will humble George. Then Jordan started to hint at humility, and diagnosed what was happening. Tackled the issue very eloquently.
That being said, George was nervous. I cant count the amount of times I was not able to communicate my intentions or thoughts properly because of my anxiety. Jordan also noticed it in George which is why he brought up self consciousness. I empathize with George, because I struggle with the same issue. Not being heard or aknowledged forced me to provide myself with that attention and attentivness that I did not get from others. This defense mechanism trapped me in my own head, held me back from outwardly expressing my true self, authentically coexisting with others and stopped me from growing. My fear of being dismissed, and rejected held me back.
You do not need to prove anything to the world, you do not need to seek validation either. What you need is to learn to coexist with others and bring out the best in people around you. Thank you Jordan, and Thank you George for allowing yourself to be vulnerable infront of a great man.

The whole interview felt like George was testing or challenging Dr. Peterson's faith and trying to get Dr. Peterson to proclaim Jesus' name (for example the extremely uncomfortable part of the interview when he asked Dr. Peterson how one might get into heaven; obviously fishing for him to say through Christ). I'm also a Christian (albeit perhaps not as far along in my faith as George since I've recently come to the faith) and understand wanting to discuss faith, but this interview was seriously in poor taste. Dr. Peterson made clear in this interview, and many times before, that talks of faith are extremely personal and not something to be discussed lightly, yet the whole time George somehow managed to uncomfortably steer the conversation back into this topic. Also the entire interview felt like George wasn't really trying to listen to anything Dr. Peterson had to say, and instead was trying to shape the conversation around how he wanted it to proceed in terms of trying to get Dr. Peterson to align with him religiously. I'd been really enjoying George's podcasts these past few months, but this episode was a bit of a disappointment. The cringiest part of this interview for me was when George talked about being a humble person, and then Dr. Peterson asking how that was going for him in a sarcastic tone (obviously sensing the irony of the situation). For someone who claims that being humble is going great for them, he sure seemed to lack the self awareness here to realize how much humbleness he was lacking in this interview.

In a way, "the path you're on" is always "the right path"--that's why you're on it! You could be on a different path if you were different in just the right way. The only way to change your path is to change yourself. The path is winding because we're always changing. Change is an inbuilt feature of life. The response to it shapes the new self. The important thing is the possibility of deliberately, willfully participating in the formulation of the response, especially through programming the habit nature.

50:07 This was such an awkward, forced moment that encapsulated George’s interview style in this pod. Peterson was pouring his heart out over his wife’s condition and instead of listening with grace, attentively and with compassion, George shoehorned a question about how a man can get to heaven. It was such a jarring moment and occurred to greater or lesser degrees throughout the podcast. I’m a big fan of George and am a Christian myself, but he has a long way to go as an interviewer. Peterson was subtly hinting to George he needs to humble himself and interview from a position of ignorance rather than constantly trying to teach. It’s difficult because George obviously has a lot of wisdom he wants to get out, but when you’re sitting in front of one of the smartest men on the podcast circuit, it’s wiser to play the part of the fool so you may gain wisdom.

Fanaticism does that to you. I understand letting people know Jesus is important in your life, but crucifying the man and his wife for not practicing christianity the way you want to, was weird. There are plenty of philosophical useful questions to strengthen your faith instead of using a language to acuse him. It seems like George does not know what JP went through, maybe we dont know the whole story but JP family has gone through a lot… and all we can say his wife may not go to heaven? 😳

  • @sanjacobs6261
    @sanjacobs6261 6 месяцев назад +1454

I'm going to be honest, George. Your fiancé was a better interviewer than you here. She didn't near-constantly speak about herself, and her connection with God, etc. She was just naturally curios. Her questions were actually simple and understandable, as opposed to meandering thoughts about random bible quotes and Christian-isms that go on until Peterson interrupts you with an actual point, because he can tell that you're losing the thread. Peterson is more careful with the weight of all these religious terms, and you're not. Your definitions of these words are way too sloppy in comparison, and so you can't afford to stay up there in religious language land constantly.
You came down to earth one time in this video, and Peterson noticed and complimented that, it was the least foolish thing you said. About your fiancé's cross. That was real and true. You stopped talking as if you know God, and spoke as if you know people. That was good. Do that more.
Bless you, George. You will go on well.

Reid is very smart also. George is the host, but that doesn't give him the right to hold people back to reach their God Given potential when he keeps moving/overspeaking and interrupts like this during conversations during interviews(possibly in life circumstancesalso.)

Yep exactly. Notice how Jordan scoffs at George’s silly questions because he realizes how much of a simpleton he really is 😂 George seemed overly confident w/ his responses which were lacking detail and authenticity. Several of George’s questions needed clarity and revision in order for Jordan to answer them appropriately. I could also tell when George brought up god in every response and/or question, he felt as if they were suffice and that Jordan would be satisfied. You could just tell George never thought deeper than that 💀

You need to wait until you get married first brother. If you have sex with her before you finalize and go through with making your vows then you are doing wrong. As it stands now, something could change, you don't get married, and all you did was use her to gratify temptation. I recently came to christ because of sexual sin and this is what he revealed to me. Think about this. It's a test. For the relationship. You want to prove to each other that you can resist sexual temptation. What greater temptation is there than to make love to the woman you love? None. If you show her you can resist temptation until you are married you are showing her that you can resist other women and can be faithful. Because you are being faithful to God.

The immensely skilled therapist came out with the father and professor as George constantly tried to "gotcha" Dr. Peterson with fake humility sprinkled on top of elementary school religious questions and pontifications. He constantly piled on to Dr. Peterson's comments with "uh-huh's" and dribbles of facts that were already stated. Playground know-it-all behaviour. His questions about prayer were simply rude and intrusive, but still a setup to highlight his upcoming self-praise and self-absorption. George is extremely immature in his cognition and his distance from his mother. He cannot think outside of the dogma that his mother taught him. I enjoyed hearing Dr. Peterson ask cogent questions about ALL of George's deeply automatized notions about God and Jesus. The wife is a paragon of clarity and beauty and I feel sorry that she has such an immature needy baby as her future husband. He answered for her several times. Not a good sign. George was ACTING most of the time and shared extremely personal details about his sex life that we didn't need to know. He used Dr. Peterson for a counseling session. That was actually the benefit of this podcast.

Indeed, makes it unique from all the prior interviews, I absolutely loved when he called out George on the pre-marital sex topic too, its a topic a lot of modern day younger Christians are uncomfortable talking about.
We love George of course, but the heavenly Father chastises those he loves out of love for them & wanting to see spiritual growth or understanding, a change of heart.
Pre-marital sex as well as all other sexual immoralities are still Sin and you have to just sort of live with the consequences if you ever engage in it, people may assume there are no consequences to Sin as long as you end up marrying that person you experienced it all with but well, that's not so true. It distorts your image of God within your Soul, and so when you two merge as one you may not get to experience a more truer image of God, the issue is its actually impossible to know if anything's been lost, as its actually impossible for all human's to compare experiences of a spiritual matter so it remains a mystery to all... and sex in the Christian community is supposed to be kept entirely private, intimate just between the Husband & Wife so you'll never hear people talk about it unless there's problems.
A lot of people misunderstand the purposes of saving yourself, its not just about respecting & honoring the women's body or your own as temples for the holy spirit & respecting God's Law as beings made in the image / likeness of God, but learning to be deeply fulfilled by the other's Spirit instead of their Flesh. When you get to the point where you can see into your women's spirit & soul, find it to be the most beautiful thing in existence this is when you begin to see God's work be done & all the agape love he gives you. When you get to the point where you love her so selflessly & unconditionally you would be flayed alive to protect her & keep her safe if that was the only way this is when you know you should marry her, as long as you feel it in your heart that its all coming from a place of genuine love & no other emotions. When you give into the temptations of the flesh though this goes against the Spirit, just as the Spirit goes against the flesh. The vow & covenant you agree to forms the marriage and turns all sexual relations into a beautiful giving in spirit & flesh in creation.
And if the two parties indeed have this agape love for each other they feel the most overwhelmingly powerful force in existence, that force is God, when two parties are selflessly loving & giving it creates the most beautiful thing.
It helps a lot in falling deeper in love with the women's spirit if you avoid the temptations & focus on your love for God & faith in him above all as #1, find the Kingdom of God first & all else will be delivered to thee, if you choose God above all others, make Jesus Christ the first place & center piece God will bless you in return as God is true love itself, the Lord blesses the union with even more unfathomable amounts of agape love and it all works in a cycle where now the husband gives this love to the wife & the wife to the husband. When you are walking in the spirit & living in it instead of walking in the flesh, peer into a women's spirit & see how beautiful it is through her virtues, her inner light, and see the God within her Soul she becomes the most beautiful women on the planet to you regardless of how she looks, regardless what age she is or anything its all unconditional.
The first most important Law Jesus said was to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This means we love God above any & all attachments to other people, so we obey the commandments & God's will for us above our own temptations, desires, free will. Whenever people desire beauty they really desire God, both the seeking of patterns in humans, symmetry, inner beauty & outer beauty is all because we were made in his likeness to appreciate beauty. However only our inner beauty can lead us deeper into the Spirit & to God, as its a reflection, a mirror of his glorious light & goodness, the source of everything good in creation. Because we use our free will to choose this and its not just a property of nature imprinted on us like outer beauty, it becomes our own unique colors of light and this is why men can fall in love with one women's spirit but not others. Think of it like loving a star in the sky & finding it deeply beautiful even though there's billions of other stars that one is special to you for eternity, all stars are unique.
The second most important Law is to love thy neighbor as you love yourself, to think of all human beings in a selfless way, treating them with respect & love, kindness care, consideration, thoughtfulness, compassion, empathy or sympathy if you can't relate. This Law is a lot deeper than it seems too, sometimes you may desire someone for marriage but you feel you two wouldn't be compatible, so if you are selflessly loving you don't get involved with her. Other times someone needs a friend but you feel you wouldn't have time to be their friend so instead of just people pleasing & agreeing but ghosting them or declining all invitations you are honest with them, tell them the truth & wish them well.
The two Laws also apply to your wife though, just as Jesus loves all of us with all of himself, we are to love our wives with all our mind, heart, souls / spirit.

I admire the effort George pulled on this interview. However, there is some disconnect on the level of dialogue and subject matter. George failed to know beforehand that Jordan's interpretation of Christianity is more metaphorical. Jordan is not a Christian in the religious sense but more in a theological sense. It was kinda awkward trying to see George trying to tilt the conversation towards spirituality and piousness, while Jordan's rendition of that was more mundane. Yet, despite all of this, it was great to watch them speak their differences!

I don't think it's more of an interpretation and more of George trying to force Jordan's hand and project his theism onto Jordan. Several times he presupposed his questions with Jordan being a "declared" theist as opposed to his usually vague answers (that is, not a definitive "yes"). This more blatantly comes across during the discussion regarding truth, where George categorically denied the idea of there being a "personal truth" a man can uphold that is separate to that of his God. This is an intolerable mindset to have a discussion with, especially with those who do not share their religious belief or one at all. I found his focus on Tammy (Jordan's wife) not "accepting" or "embracing" a religious view during Jordan's exposition of her illness and their struggles with it after mentioning the most profound moments to be a disgusting and annoying line of questioning@@christinel7260

I wish George had waited a bit to sharpen up his interviewing style before booking a titan like Jordan. This was way too early. 1:38:25 is a perfect example why! George stopped Jordan right as he was about to get really deep on explaining the depth of our weaknesses. The convo went into another direction and Jordan never got to unpack that thought. You don’t give Picasso a canvas and take away his paint brush!
I don’t think George is being prideful as others have suggested. I think it’s insecurity and a feeling like he needs to showcase his value through his intellect, ideas, thoughts or charisma. I dont think George realizes that JP might not believe in God in the same way he does. George has found comfort by believing that the truth is outside of himself, the forgiveness he seeks is outside of himself, and the strength he seeks is outside of himself. I think JP believes in a more practical way , that the power of all of that is already within yourself. A way to live aligned with transcendence and having a relationship with the divine without such a “middle man” perspective. We are God experiencing itself. So some of the questions George asked hit JPs ears differently and he was just trying to be respectful of Georges heavy reliance on the word of God.

I think JP is still working on this. His conscience is such a concrete part of him, I think he truly still wrestles with the idea of claiming he fully believes. It means something much more to him than it does for most others.
Seems to me, he is so committed to telling the truth, his answer cannot be simple. I mean, many Christians can easily say yes they do believe....but if you stop and think about what that actually means at its core and you were to fully hold yourself accountable to that belief, had zero doubt and were entirely committed.... how could you not live every second of your life for Christ? An unbound belief with zero doubt would compel you to abandon all else. Would it not? And I don't mean metaphorically. I mean that literally. Like Monk on a mountain type commitment. Take no wife. Father no children. Celibacy kind of committed.
Jordan has explained it more eloquently than I am able to but in as best a summation as I can....Jordan doesnt answer the question "do you believe in God?" with a simple yes because its not a simple question for him. To truly say yes I believe, for Jordan, that would require him to live every second and devote every thought and every action to the glorification of God. No man can do this. None have, save one, God's son Jesus.
And that my friends is a very very big set of shoes for one person to believe they can fill.
If its a simple question for you to answer and you feel content with leaving it at that, that is just fine. However, I find it very judgmental and shortsighted to think a man like Jordan Peterson should be able to do the same. I am pretty sure he could give a 5 hour lecture on how to tie your shoes and would be a million percent invested in every second of it.
The guy is simply made of different stuff than most. And yes, I do admire him.

I can't help but notice the negative connotation of "cringing" because it had to be "regulated". What do you mean by regulating? Pushing it away? Telling yourself that cringing is wrong? Because that would just be suppression, not regulation. Dissociating from spontaneous reactions within your body instead of listening to what they have to say will end in depression in its purest form. Why? Because you can't just dissociate from cringing. As soon as the dissociation button within oneself is activated, everything will be dissociated. Fear, anger, laughter, happiness... That's why pushing away the "bad" parts and desperately clinging onto the good parts doesn't work. It just creates neurosis. True freedom is not trying to force an inner state and being one with all your inner parts. This is what is called spiritual bypassing. And sadly, spiritual bypassing and hedonism have the same exact function of suppression of one's inner spontaneous wisdom showing itself.
If you meant listening to what your deeper self had to say and calming it down by being a good host and friend for all your different inner parts (which is what self-regulation really means), then I am with you all the way. That would be really great and in that case, I wish that you could learn some valuable lessons about yourself and that you got to know yourself even deeper. Good luck on your journey.

Trying to teach and preach so much to a man like Jordan really opened my eyes or Jorge, but simultaneously the balance the balance of logic, reason, and accountability as it relates to spirituality and the human experience. Jorge could have been more inquisitive opposed to being so fast to talk about himself in ways that don’t relate or correlate to observations and statements of Jordan. I can tell Jordan was patient with Jorge allowing him to do the thing he does to other guests and attempting to meet him where he’s at, while simultaneously giving Jorge enough ammo to really reflect on what he was saying as Jordan can see the holes in his statements. Jorge is more faith based, Jordan is more thought based. Faith is simple, but having the mental capacity to explore simple statements at such depth is what Jordan brings to the table. It’s kinda like that carrot picture, where you see the carrot under the ground that’s large with a smaller stem, and a larger stem, with a smaller carrot. As an interviewer, he should have tried to leverage Jordan’s abilities to explore the depth of topics, opposed to interjecting to make surface level points without knowing the depth behind his statements

Spot on. But I guess trying to parse the random statements of George is an interesting challenge in itself and therefore I don't think Jordan ever got bored. One thing George definitely has one up in contrast to Jordan is his deep love for God and his commitment to giving himself into his arms. When it comes to reason, accountability, introspection and depth it's sometimes (somewhat) painfully obvious that George is lacking behind while (very obviously) trying to balance it out, by using convoluted language. I feel like his fiance was way more interesting as an intellectual sparring partner to Jordan I'd loved to hear more from her.

You've got it backwards. George is actually the "intellectual" while Jordan is thinking about it Faith based. George is constantly trying to have these irrational intellectual justifications for his actions that don't align with Christ. Meanwhile Jordan is the one saying if you actually believed you would act in parallel with Jesus. George is obviously more obsessed with these random ideas he comes up with or hears than actual theosis. He doesn't realize how little he knows yet he takes this informer approach where he's trying to tell everyone what it means to be a christian.

And it really feels like George is constantly trying to beat a dead horse with using such strong Christianese, and it’s painfully obvious that JP Is not biting and probably , to some degree, resents the many lines of questioning with so many Christian presuppositions - including in JPs own life!!

Belle tends to state the obvious a lot without really adding much to the conversation. It feels like she’s just echoing what the guest says in a different way. She seems hesitant to challenge George’s opinions, maybe because he comes off as the head of the household with his macho attitude. A co-host should be more outspoken and not afraid to speak up. I find it ironic that he comments on parenting techniques without having children himself. I have kids with disabilities who can act out in public, and if he made a comment like that to me, he’d be publicly shamed. You never know what people are going through. There’s a lot of talk about the Lord with supposed wisdom, but it feels like it’s just repeated knowledge, not actually practiced. George’s interruptions and self-importance are cringey and a huge turn-off. I still love George and I’ll keep watching, but he really needs to tone down the self-importance. He brings everything back to the father more than I’ve ever heard a pastor do in conversation. One moment he’s talking about his love for God, and then there’s an ad about shaving your balls before premarital sex? It really highlights the hypocrisy of the channel. It’s becoming hard to listen to.

This isn't a knock on George specifically, he seems sincere, but this podcast reveals the shortcomings of the protestant conception of Christianity. The need for an interpretive structure to understand the scriptures and a sacramental structure to repent for one's sins (both offered by the Church but done away with in protestant religions) doesn't simply go away because "the bible alone" is indicative of all truth (the sola scriptura belief) nor are the individual subjective interpretations of the bible and private prayer sufficient means by which we encounter the fullness of the Truth. Without the vital institutions of Priesthood and Confession, George is forced to turn Peterson into his priest and youtube into into his confessional. Both unfitting substitutes for the truth and peace he yearns for. I'd love to see George have on a clergyman, perhaps Bishop Barron, who can affirmatively rather than speculatively respond to the personal struggles he is contending with. Nonetheless, George, you've shown much courage taking your voice independent and in this direction. Keep at it! Rooting for you.

Exactly. This is a serious problem. Protestant Christianity is a dead end, and I say that as someone who was once a protestant. It is unbelievable how a simple question can unravel a entire religion. It makes you look so utterly ridiculous when you are dealing with anyone of moderate intelligence. It's just doomed. It frustrates me seeing it happen again and again.

    • @medicalmindset
      @medicalmindset 6 месяцев назад

I see what you mean. Perhaps from the outside looking in, it looks like the catholic tradition seems to add "extra" steps/ practices to Christ's seemingly straight forward message. Believe, repent and be saved. This is true and is the heart of the Christian life. Sacred tradition does not seek to diminish the truth of Christ's claims but magnify just how true they are. Sacred tradition is born out taking Christ at His word, all of them. Therefore, when Christ exclaims "Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day." [John 6:53-58] We take Him at his word. Again, Christ says "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven" [Mt 16:18] It is not so much that catholics wish to complicate or dilute the heart of the message of Christ but the contrary, we seek to manifest it to the fullest by fulfilling all that He ordained. @@mindcry777

The Creator of everything is : Allah " الله " , and He created us to worship Him alone, and in order to teach us how to worship Him, He sent prophets like " Noah, Abraham Moses, Jesus, " peace be upon them, and the last of the Messengers is Muhammad, may الله prayers and peace be upon him. Therefore, to enter Paradise and to survive punishment , must follow the last of the Prophets and Messengers, mohammed ﷺ ..We also believe in all the heavenly books such as : The Bible , the torah , the zabor ... Which " ALLAH الله " revealed to his prophets and messengers ، But it has changed and distorted. Therefore, " الله " sent Muhammad ﷺ with the
" Qur’an “ God’s Preserved Words” to restore the previous religions to the truth. There is a lot of evidence that indicates that the Qur’an is a miracle ... We mention for example: its rhetorical and linguistic miracle, its scientific miracle, as it talked about scientific facts that have been discovered now only after technological development, just as the Qur’an talked about historical facts that they will happen and have already occurred Most of the current discoveries, in all fields, are present and mentioned in the Qur’an 14 centuries ago .The biggest sin in Islam is "shirk " polytheism For example, to worship Jesus This is a shirk Whoever worships other than God "Allah الله " is in the hell .We love and believe in all the prophets and messengers , but worship is only for " ALLAH الله " Like prayer and asking for forgiveness and mercy are only for " Allah الله " .whoever become Muslim all sins are forgiven by " ALLAH الله"He is like a new page, so he should be keen on doing good deeds Because heaven is the abode of bliss , pleasure , And everything your soul desires and what " الله ALLAH" has prepared for its people is beyond imagination The five pillars of Islam: Shahada, establish prayer, Zakat, fasting Ramadan, and Hajj. The Pillars of Faith: It is the belief in God "Allah الله " , His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and Predestination " Qadar " .A free person is a Muslim , by his servitude to " الله ALLAH ", is liberated from everythingTo become a Muslim, the first thing to do is to say
the " shahada " testimony :" I bear witness that there is no god for worship except " ALLAH الله " and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger "Learn about " Islam " to know the true purpose of your existence in this life , and you know how to worship the one who created your heart , any question about Islam I can help you " insha allah " . Especially at the present time, you can download an application with the prayer call " adhan " that reminds you of the 5 prayers times And give you the direction of the qiblah this after saying testimony " shahada " And learn purity ( how to make ghusl and ablution )

You say you respect Jordan with your mouth but that same mouth interrupts him constantly.
Also you need to realize how much of what you said that you KNOW about scripture is simply your interpretation. Just because you read something doesn’t mean you know it. You blurted out so many annoying quips that it hurt to hear.
You’re very successful and I’m just a 29 year old veteran with a health science undergrad and a deep heartfelt interest in biblical scholarship and psychology but you came off as annoying in this podcast. Like sometimes great but most of the time cringey. Work on that to your benefit. A Christian Stoicism would look better on you.

At 24:23, it was awkward... Dr. Peterson noticed that George didn't give his wife a chance to question him and saw George quickly adding onto whatever he was answering, then shifting the conversation by asking her, 'You had a question earlier, do you remember it? Just a bit ago?' Peterson showed so much patience here, which was funny and a subtle hint to George about including his wife in the conversation😅😅. Gotta admire Peterson's observation and patience, he's awesome. You learn a lot from observing him. 👏

the world has love. That is, Us, We have love... God Loves us more than we can comprehend. It's just that the average person think it's all a fairy tale. It's not that we need more love, it's that people need to get the hint already.... We're not all crazy, convincing ourselves of a relationship with God. We're not all making this stuff up.

Mr. Janko, I have heard of your show before this and have maybe seen a brief clip or two, but this is my first substantial exposure to your show. I am not saying this for the sake of being mean, but I did not enjoy you. Your constant mentioning of God and in the way you USE him to excuse and self-aggrandize yourself makes me feel like you are not an honest person and that virtue signaling is more important to you than virtue. I don't get the impression that you believe in God, but rather use God to advertise your self-perception of moral superiority to others.
