    That track is as bumpy as hell but true champions just get on with it.

    A real blast from the past. I'd guess that was the last time the venerable 2 valve Jawa ever saw a major podium finish. The next year, all manner of more competitive motors began to appear, including a number of 4 valve conversions for the unbreakable Jawa.

    Great race between two of the greatest speedway riders.

    Both great riders. I remember Olsen doing a special challenge at Teesside v Bruce Forrester, Frank Aufrett and 1 other that I can remember. He won the first 2 and looked imperious but Bruce did his infamous dive under at the first bend on the second lap to get by him and miraculously hold on. Olsen complained a tad but was a true gentleman after. Great memories. Thanks again for these wonderful videos 👍👍

      @@frenzalrhomb6919 He won a lot - rolling at the gate was his trademark. If I were the gate keeper, I wouldn't allow it. He would've won less if gate keeper said "Stand still". But yeah, he won 6 individual WCs.

      @@MeBallerman A win is still a win. Are YOU going to knock back a World Title because an official HADN'T pulled you up? ...
      Ivan did what he had to do, and the officials at the track on the day were happy, should he have handed the Title Silverware back and said, "no, I CAN NOT in good conscience, accept this honour because you're too dopey to do your job" would THAT make it better for you? Regardless, the Man's still in the history books as one of, if not THE GREATEST rider of ... Well let's say the greatest rider of his time, and ONE OF the greatest of ALL TIME.
      How about that? ...

    I really think these days. Ole would have been more successful as he could adapt to the new starting etc as his ability was amazing from the back. Maybe I am bias. As the first meeting I went to was at hackney in 1974 Memory not great but I believe Dave Morton beat ole ?? Seem to remember 49 -29. Still hooked on speedway

    Rolling was allowed in those days, so its not cheating, if it wasnt allowed it wouldnt be allowed would it LoL!!! Starting procedures these days are BORING with a capital B. Look at the 1973 world final run off where Ivan WAS cheated out of the title by a dodgy Polish home ref, Jerzy Scheikel got a massive head start in that run off, and a bit of bad luck in a couple of other world finals, Ivan would have won about 8, SO IVAN DEFO BEST OF ALL TIME.....END OF!

      Starts are much more fairer now, Mauger was a master of the unfair starting rules of his generation. By his own admission he wasn't the complete motorcyclist, just ahead of the game professionally. Rickardsson in my opinion was better, as Zmarzlik probably will be if not already.

    • @markwaudby
      @markwaudby Год назад

      Thanks Martyn for reply, Rickardsson yes but not sure about Zmarslik, it would be interesting to see how many of the Grand Prix stars would have won one off world titals. I dont think Tai Woffinden or Zmarslik would have won ANY if they had been up against the likes of Hans Nielsen and Erik Gundersen etc, and especially if it was one off format where one bad race and title over for another year!!
