living in NYC as a youngster we would draw with our fingers on AC units ... feel like now as an adult I should go fix all that

I bought a variety pack of plastic combs at Dollar Tree. I used and medium to fine tooth comb and some locking pliers. I cut the comb to about an inch and it worked great!
Thanks for the tutorial, I took on this project this weekend. I didn’t feel like buying that tool, so I just used a very small flat head screwdriver. Honestly I think it worked better than the tool you used in the video. There’s no way to rush this. The best is to take your time and straighten each fin individually. Followed up with your video on how to clean the air conditioner condenser, and it’s running like a dream. Thanks!

I work at a local (HVAC) Wolseley and only have plumbing experience. For the longest time I could not for the life of me figure out why we sold a stiff afro comb looking tool. It wasn’t until our in house HVAC tech showed me how to properly use a fin comb! 🤦♂️
Started with little spaces, ended with big spaces. Beautiful!

I use a brass bristle brush, it's worked for me so far
As a commercial HVAC Tech. I have spent alot of hours straightening fins. Thats not the tool I personally would use. It definitely takes some practice to do it right.
What tool would you use?
@badazzbob I would use a fin comb that matches the fins and very carefully comb them out using a pocket screwdriver to straighten up snag points. It's a very time consuming process to do it correctly.
I find starting on the edge of the damaged area and working slowly into the damaged area works best. In this case, work left to right, taking long gentle passes into damaged fins. Dont press fin comb hard.
I think my metal doggie flea comb should work well. Got to try it. Thanks!
The plastic versions with the hooked ends will open up even those very smashed ones.
For the really bad ones use a small bladed flat screw driver and straighten one fin at a time. then you can comb it after they are mostly straight.

Spray some condenser coil cleaner on there while doing this to "lube" it up. Comb will slide through much easier.

Where do I get that comb? In theory how does those Finn’s work? I have many missing how can I in theory diy make shift and attach them back?
Think you could do a video on getting the bolt and regular door knobs aligned in a frame (so both go in as it’s shut, my problem is one shuts sometimes without the other entering the hole)? Seems easy enough to but I don’t want to mess up the frame by drilling too much

Working in an automotive repair shop, I've seen and occasionally used the plastic or nylon type. You have to be very careful not to damage the tubes and the fins.

Use a nylon coil comb made for it.
I use the tweeter to straight out one by one, the same way I fix my car radiator. Metal comb might cause the damage.

Don't need a special tool. Just use a soft wire bristle brush.
I'm pretty sure if you bought the specific comb for those fins, which means the number of fins per inch you're result would be much much much much much much much much much much much much much better

A pair of forceps or tweezers will straighten out the more bent ones and then use the comb.
It is due to a cheap design by Carrier. I had a new system installed and in the same area I have some crushed fins, there is nothing on the right side of the exterior grill to screw into, so if you push the grill it flexes and hits the fins. The overall construction of my Carrier performance condenser seems cheap, like they used the thinnest metal possible.

Guys, I have minor bents in a new Car AC evaporator which I ordered. Does small Bents affect the car AC system? Should I return it ? Bents are small but I am afraid it will cause damage. I hope someone can answer and help me. Last year I lost my Car's AC compressor, and condenser due to a bad evaporator which development mould in it. So I hope some can help with this question 🙏
It will slightly reduce the effectiveness of the coil, if they' re minor you could straighten them and likley be fine

Could of just turned the comb so it was upside down
That took sucks, looks like you're doing more harm than good. There are better ones on the market. I got one with 6 coloured combs on a ring and each end had a different size comb. Think I got it on Amazon. Just try each end to find the one that matches your AC fin spacing.

It looked a lot better before you started that, now it looks way worse than what it did before. you caused more damage that was not able to be fixed.🤦
yeah.. Just use a stiff nylon scrub brush.. it works great
