I think your the first Ac Tech iv ever seen actually to do something in the field of repairing an ac system or preventable maintenance task in my entire 55 years of life. Bravo for setting a better example then what most techs can do for a home owner who kid probably did the damage thinking it was interesting. Iv seen sprinkler heads do that kind of damage.
What an amazing video! So many techs DON'T want to comb fins, just replace units. Thank you for this great video! Amazing assistant you got there!!!! Happy 4th!
The first thing I learned that my multiple fin straightener did not have a small enough comb for my window unit that was beat up with a hail storm! Plan on acquiring a finer one.
I am from India! Liked your video! I like the DIY attitude of US people in general. The good thing is because of this unique DIY you have the tools to do everything! We in India employ mechanics for every job. Here labour is cheap but the main reason is most Indian do not like DIY. Here comes the big difference! We don’t try and don’t invent!
That's funny. I have an Indian friend who explained this to me because I asked her why her family was not really handy around the house. That culture difference never even occurred to me. Here in north america, labor is the most expensive thing, so homeowners try to take care of things when possible.
You make me so envious that I did not learn a trade such as HVAC repair. I don't know what the two pressure guages are interpreting, but I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for creating and posting it. I truly enjoyed it.
I love your videos! Recently got back into the HVAC Industry. It is good to note that the top portion of the condenser coils will have the hottest refrigerant coming off of the compressor discharge. In the condition of those coils after operating in frozen conditions, One might suggest putting two defrost sensors in parallel.
I've "Liked", subscribed, & rang the notification bell. I just ordered both combs off amazon. These tools will enable me to do an easy peasy DIY repair on the bent fins on my ac. I experienced information overload when you brought up Head Pressures at the end. I wish you would have, in plain english told us how many degrees cooler the air was as it came out of the air outlet vent compared to B4 straightening the fins. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
Taddy, This winter when you energize "Y" and "W" at the same time (defrost or aux ht), you will be sending one leg of power to both Med Hi (Blue) and High (Black) Speeds simultaneously. I would guess you would get abnormally high current draw. Possibly 5-6A. I normally use the larger relay and energize only one speed. Also American Standard heaters have the 24V common (C) from heat contactors go through that limit switch on heat kit, then through that larger blower relay second set of NO contacts then on to C side of transformer. This ensures the blower relay is energized BEFORE the heat contactors. It's a good idea on any rewiring of heat kits.
Thanks NY. I have tried to use one of those fin comb on my window unit was unable to straighten fins. Any other suggestions Unit blows ice cold. We don’t like the look of it from outside our home
Hi Taddy, I got a question for you. I used to clean condenser coil fins on the roof with a pressure washer plus Nu calgon chemical spray, but some fins are totally clogged with hard black dirt scales, and the pressure washer didn't work. Do you have any idea to clean fins like this? Thank you.
At the 6:00 mark you happened to pull some of the fin material out. Does that damage the performance of the unit, or is it okay as long as you don't damage the tubing? Great video BTW.
Hi man, I have minor bents in a new Car AC evaporator which arrived today after waiting for 2 weeks. Does the small Bents affect the car AC system? Should I return it ? Bents are small but I am afraid it will cause damage. I hope someone can answer and help me. Last year I lost my Car's AC compressor, and condenser due to a bad evaporator which development mould in it & led to Black Death & destroyed the whole AC system. So I hope some can help with this question 🙏
@@TaddyDigest if you have an IG or Email, I can send a photo if you don't mind. Actually Installing this Evaporator in my car is extremely difficult. So I really don't wanna risk it if its not worth it.
Good timing for me. I'm moving and removed my window a/c unit just to have my baby bump 65 yr old belly smooched the crap out of the fins. Put it this way the fins look like the back side of a Tsunami.
It appears that the fan is damaging the fins on the inside. The only reason I can think of is from things dropping in through the top and the fan propelling them into the coil. Acorns must really raise hell.
@@TaddyDigest thanks ! Then would having misters spraying around the coil to lower the ambient temp and help heat transfer also help the unit run on lower pressure?
So funny these people who want you to "smash the like button and subscribe" before they've even done anything. It's like let me see the video and see if you're any good, THEN I'll decide if I want to like and subscribe. They've got it backwards. 30 seconds in you haven't said or shown anything valuable yet. So far, you're losing.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I noticed that wrapping filters around the outside of the AC unit and over the top of the AC unit we keep a lot of crap from being thrown into the fins ……… Deliberately lousy design, I would guess crap like rocks and twigs from weed whacker and hail stones from above

What works the best on fins is a stiff bristle brush. Cleans fins and straightens them out with zero damage or expense.
Absolutely perfect Tad, thanks for the nice upload, watching from Pakistan.
Thank you Ted. It is very useful video. I am going to work on my AC this weekend. Cheers!
Absolutely awesome video. learnt a lot, thanks a bunch.

Thanks for this video. I just bought a similar tool online but didn’t know how to use it.
Glad I could help
Thats awesome, what a difference it made! Actually, kind of a fun job brushing those fins out. LOL Thanks for the videos, much appreciated!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the helper…teach them young
This is what I need to do tomorrow.
rookie here, thank you for the info
Any time!
Great information video! 👍👍👍👍
You could easily get the FST and FST2 tool. It looks like those coils use the FST2 tool.

I been trying to find one of these tools that actually works. I have a commercial building that needs this bad lol
So how do you clean the one in air handler can't find a video on that. Birmingham, Alabama
better tool than I got
Can you use a ac cleaner or no need too
What is best for Miss and scales?
Yeah, I suppose when some one blasts high pressure water on these fragile aluminum fins, they wonder why they have to call a service man.
Yeah I think I'll try this one.
Only $16.96 when your a Prime Member...I hope this isn't a typical crap shoot when it comes to Amazon stuff.

Yes, it does affect the performance of the unit
@@TaddyDigest so means it is broken or not going to have good airflow?
@cedtv8899 yes
It does not mean that there are 14 fins where you pointed to. It means that the fins are spaced at 14 per inch
Great video. Thanks
You're welcome thank you for watching
Will that fin tool work in tight places such as evaperator A coil for residential units ?
I would assume yes
Good stuff, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I'm from Philippines I need to buy this tool fin comb 👏👍 thanks
Sir- will this make the unit cool the inside air better if the fins are flattened?
yes
@@TaddyDigest Sweet, thanks for the quick reply! I was using a toothpick and a feeler gauge and was ready to quit. Gonna order the tool.

It depends on the extent of the damage on whether it would affect the performance or not

وين الكَاها بسوق العراق يرحم والديكم الي يعرف لا يقصر.
Can you explain why this is oddly satisfying?
I think just seeing the progress makes me satisfy
Would you see the unit use less power ? I’m sure it makes it more efficient.
definitely makes the pressures lower and uses less energy
@@TaddyDigest thanks ! Then would having misters spraying around the coil to lower the ambient temp and help heat transfer also help the unit run on lower pressure?
yes absolutely
Can spine find be “combed”
no
@@TaddyDigest how are they repaired if damaged?
Replacement is the next option I am to assume
I've never had to replace one due to damage
Thanks
Commenting for the algorithm. From Maine. sorry no name, I’m one of the weird ones with nothing personal online. Great video though.
Where could I buy the brush?
Check the link in the description
Auto parts stores carry them
I’m missing many Finn’s because of dog pee. How do I attach diy some to it?
Ask your assistant how many times he hit the unit with a soccer ball.
lol 😆 😂
A little soap and water will make that easier to use
thanks 👍
Using the wrong-sized comb results in pressing adjacent fins together. That doesn't really help matters.
A mal kaha milagi
Check the link in the description.
I meant spine fins
Another person mixes up warm water and dish soap to act as a lubricant for this .
Geez.. you're hacking at it. lol.
Just use a stiff nylon scrub brush. it has much better results
how the hell does the weed eater get through the whole outside of the ac unit

Ohio window unit
That's the incorrect tool and you fucked the fins up.
Then what is the correct one?
exactly what I was thinking 🤔

search for air filter pad …. these can be cut to fit and also attached together to wrap around AC unit
