    DAAAAAMN!!!..... GREAT job! Thank you for sharing this with us! I bought a solar mini split and carried it out to it's location with the fins resting on my leg as I carried it out. It folded over quite a bit of those fins and I was JUST about to buy one of those tools that combs out the fins. Now I don't HAVE to, I have a brush just like that in my garage somewhere! Gonna go straighten them out TODAY!!! THANK YOU!!!!!

    Fantastic solution! I found your video while trying to find a fin comb locally. Instead I grabbed an old dish scrubbing brush and pulled it through some damaged fins and it straightened it out so effortlessly I had to laugh. You saved me from spending $29 at Lowe's for a Malco FST2 😀
    I made a quick vid and gave you credit. Thanks again! 👍

    Wow, this is a game changer, Steve! Here I was contemplating another useless tool on Amazon. So glad I found your channel. This is a very valuable and useful tool. Now when a brush is too hard for the bathtub scrubbing, just use it on the AC fins. Brilliant!!! Many thanks!

    Thanks so much for this tip! I need to do my father-in-laws AC unit as it is at least 50% blocked from bent fins. And I had noticed that at Easter, mentioned it to him but he assured me that when his AC service would be done that "they would take care of it"... Well.. you guessed it... they didn't. They "cleaned" the unit, but did nothing about, or even mention the issue which ...if... they were professional, they should have seen that it was taken care of.
    I will be picking up a good stiff brush like that tomorrow and I will also be buying one of those plastic AC fin comb sets to use on any of the stubborn areas.
    You did an awesome job of the presentation!

    THANK YOU!! My installers just put in a complete system, the two installers were, to say it nicely, IN A HURRY. Watched them man handle the unit going up the ceiling stairs, and scratch the hell out of both sides squeezing it through the opening. Then outside watched them slide off the condenser unit and the guy on the bottom grab it on a leaning fall while the second guy jumped off truck and helped the rest of the way down. Needless to say, so many bent fins it is ridiculous. Their answer, oh that is minimal it will not effect anything. Why do they always hire the crappiest installers, when they demand so much money?

    I think this is a great idea. I watched a video of someone using the metal fin straightener and it seems too aggressive. I just installed a new air conditioner and bent some fins in the process. They are very thin and delicate, so the brush tool will be more gentle and not damage the fins. Thanks for sharing a great idea.

    • @Steve-og3cr
      @Steve-og3cr  2 года назад

      Exactly. With the combs I actually tore a few places. After about 10 minutes of failing to get literally anything straight I gave up and did this lol.

    Do the same thing with the unit ON. The coil will warm up slightly softening the aluminum making it easier.

    • @emailjimsylvester
      @emailjimsylvester 2 месяца назад

      Tell me you've never serviced a condenser unit without telling me you've never serviced a condenser unit. To run it you need the fan in place, which is held up by the cage that would be in the way of working on the coil. If you did happen to find a magical way to make it all work I think you have to get aluminum a lot hotter than that to make any significant difference.

    I was so frustrated buying a bunch of fin straighters that barely work, I decided to do something completely different I got the bright idea of using a feeler gauge which absolutely worked but it's a really slow process because I was opening them up 1 at a time but I was working with a much smaller A/C window unit. I was not in a hurry because it's was for emergency use only if my main unit goes out so I worked on it every day I'm about 90% finished. I bought it second hand and someone mashed them in removing it not knowing the damage they was doing.

      That's the one! I'm sure others would work too. Hopefully it works for you as well! Some old ac coils are too rigid for the nylon brush. I'd be curious if a steel brush would work on those, but haven't tried. www.menards.com/main/grocery-home/cleaners-household-essentials/cleaning-supplies/cleaning-tools/libman-reg-iron-handle-scrub-brush/525006/p-1444438067658-c-7113.htm?tid=4c290f10-27ee-487a-98fe-ec86856c3db7&ipos=1&exp=false

    Hi man, I have minor bents in the fins of a new Car AC evaporator which arrived today after waiting for 2 weeks. Does the small Bents affect the car AC system? Should I return it ? Bents are small but I am afraid it will cause damage. I hope someone can answer and help me. Last year I lost my Car's AC compressor, and condenser due to a bad evaporator which development mould in it & led to Black Death & destroyed the whole AC system. So I hope some can help with this question 🙏

    Is it normal for the top fins to be dented up a bit. I opened my unit today to do an annual cleaning and noticed some bent fins/dented areas near the top

    • @Steve-og3cr
      @Steve-og3cr  2 года назад +1

      It's not great to be bent, but it is very common because the top cap that holds the fan motor sits right on top of the fins. Not a huge deal as there's really no circulation there. Just try to make sure they aren't bent so badly that they can't support the cap or start exposing the coil where it could be hit and get damaged/leak.
