    What a haul!! I am dipping my toe into Broken Binding, could (will...) be costly. Generation Ship is a good read. I'm insanely jealous of your Cage of Souls find, that is rare as rocking horse shit over here too, very expensive. Good to see a bit of sci fi in the mix 😀
    Keep buying! 👌

    Oooooooh I also have that little Great Change hardcover, and the stories were a treat! I really need to try LPQ and Powder Mage. And love that great deal you found on the Modesitt hardcovers!
    Oh man that Cage of Souls hardcover is gorgeous-I haven’t read it yet either but love the cover.

      Thanks!! Oh yes, LPQ is so good. That one and both Kithamar and Dagger and the Coin I think you’d have a lot of fun with! I love powder mage so much. But apparently it’s hit or miss for some. I’m glad to hear Great Changes was worth the investment. Speaking of, I’m really hoping that Cage of Souls was a good buy 😬.

    Nice copy of Foreigner. I agree about it being slow and the restarting threw me, but I ended up liking it. Also, nice copies of the Deathgate Cycle. I found nice copies of that series in hardcover a couple of years ago and they are so much prettier in hardcover than the mass market paperbacks I had.

    Wow great haul! The Modesitt and Death Gate books are especially great finds. By the way, I think Echoes of the Fall is connected to the Apt universe in some way so it might need to be read after that series.

    It's really sad when an author doesn't realize you want more of the same thing you fell in love with, just new versions of it. In regards to the mundane bookshops stuff you talked about. I sympathize though. In art, it is a hard thing to trust your audience. But you have to find a way! Haha
    Please one day read 'A Morbid Taste for Bones' by Ellis Peters. Ignore the cover art. She's the coziest, immersive writer I've ever read. But...I know you don't like the long-winded, classic, mystery reveal at the end. But for me her plots are entirely secondary to the depth of her characters and her handle on all things medieval. If you're looking for baffling surprises, no. But if you want to be held in the hands of a master... :)

      I’m sure he felt all the pressures to “improve” certain things about his stories from the publisher that picked him up. The typical formula sells, after all. But it’s a testament to his core elements that I would be happy to sit there and read them without a bigger driving plot, which usually makes me cranky.
      I will certainly add that to the list. Maybe one of these days I’ll do a “viewers’ recommends” challenge.

    Great video. I have some really bad news for you about the Planetside series. Book 4 comes out in September, but it's a different format (trade paperback) than the first three, as the publisher has stopped putting out mass market paperbacks. Sorry in advance.

      I read “I have some really bad news for you about the Planetside series.” And immediately jumped to, “Oh no, is it CANCELLED??!” And had miniature heart failure. It made it easier to absorb the blow of different formats. I tell you what, though, I’m looking forward to the trade edition - it means it’s large enough to fit into my favorites section. Loving the new one so far!

    Never Die is great. I think Rob J. Hayes may be a must read for me. I have been reading Recluce by Modesitt. He is not going to be for everyone. His books are very casual and not epic though the world is.
    Warded Man had a different cover for the first book when it was initially released - it doesn't match.

    • @TheObsessiveBookseller
      @TheObsessiveBookseller  2 месяца назад +1

      Oh good! I’ll be sure to prioritize Hayes then. I really liked Modesitt’s first Imager book, so I’m hopeful. I think you’re right about going in prepared for that casual writing style. I think I remember that edition with the dark blues (if it’s the same one). That must be annoying to have on the shelf haha.

    I’ll be honest, the death gate cycle and dragon lance have sparked my curiosity for some time but I’m a bit concerned about getting into them due to feeling like I missed the age window to read them. Do you think someone in their early 20s who has read and liked/loved some of the works of Hobb, Sanderson, Martin, Cahill, Wurts and Tolkien would be able to enjoy dragon lance and or Death Gate? Or is there a better starting point for reading Margaret Weis and Hickman?
    Also that’s a great copy of Foreigner. Cherryh’s Fade Sun trilogy is a series that has called to me for awhile.

    • @TheObsessiveBookseller
      @TheObsessiveBookseller  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks! I think had you said “someone who has read and liked/loved Jordan, Eddings, Brooks I would’ve said yes!! Dragonlance is a sure win! Your mention of Tolkien is promising though - you might enjoy the classic fantasy feel of it. But based on your list, I’d say Deathgate is a much better entry point. They’re a lot more sophisticated. I’d be curious to hear how either goes for you if you decide to try them.

    hi @theObsessiveBookselller - Broken Binding gave a jumpstart to the subs waiting list in March and I know people who were beyond 10000 and got a sub now I myself jumped 6000 places to get a level 2 sub. I'd say that you must apply and wait on the waitlist and I am sure you'd get it in the next cycle.
    Edit: level 2 sub and not level 1

    • @TheObsessiveBookseller

      So, some behind the scenes things - this was filmed in February and as it happens, I managed to get on the Tier 2 list between then and now. That's so exciting you got into Tier 1! I asked to be put on a waiting list for that, so hopefully eventually I'll get there.
