Same here! Really irks me that I wanted to love this book (book about books set in a library? Uh, YES!), but in the end, DNF'ed with sorrow.

Haha so many things to get to. I wish Cahill’s books had been more enjoyable for me. I might just be cranky at classic fantasy or something. You’ll have to let me know if the third one is worth the effort. I appreciate your warning about Witcher!! It’s currently last priority haha.

Thank you!! I’m not alone haha. I really don’t get it either. At the very least I can see what others like about it even when it’s not working for me, but there are so many better books with the same basic storyline that I’m not sure why that one stands out to people. Good Booktube PR maybe?

Yes! I think Old Man's War by Scalzi, Planetside by Mammay, Children of Time by Tchaikovsky, and Leviathan Wakes by Corey are great places to start! I'm not a reader who has a TON of depth into scifi, and I'm sure many other booktubers would hand you the classics first, but these are the ones that kept me page-turning to the end. :)

I was thinking about Tchaikovsky, since you always recommend his books on your channel, but I wasn't sure if that would be a good start. And now I do:) On the side note: I finished "The Way of Kings" about an hour ago and I still cannot believe how excellent that book was. Luckily I have the next books in the series on my shelf, so I can continue to be mind-blown for some time to come.

Oh cool!! I hope you like Planetside as much as I did. It’s good you’re not grouchy on the newer Star Wars stuff. I did enjoy Mandalorian so I can’t be totally against it. The deeper I’m getting into these SW novels the more I’m enjoying them.

@TheObsessiveBookseller Everyone talks about the Thrawn trilogy and then goes quiet when going back to the early Star Wars books. You mentioned the Xwing series but never heard that brought up before. I imagine there are some booktubers dedicated to Star Wars but I do want to dive that far in.

@@larryladeroute971 I've done half of the first Han Solo trilogy and plan to keep going eventually in the early days of the universe. I found a pretty helpful list: www.yodasdatapad.com/booklist.html My plan right now is to read all of the complete novels in the before Disney era starting after Return of the Jedi on the timeline with the eventual goal of making it to the New Jedi Order. Gradually. I think X-Wing will be next up, as I've realized it's right in between Return of the Jedi and the Thrawn books I just read.

That’s so cool - thank you for letting me know! I’m thrilled you’re back into fantasy, and with one of my all time favorites to boot! Haha yeah I’m in the same boat - Red Sister was okay and I hard DNFed Prince of Thorns a few pages in. If anything will work for me, it will be a book about books. Fingers crossed.

Vet school! That's great, I wish I had the gumption to do a job like that. I also adored First Truth, and honestly haven't come across many who have also read it! I loved that and Hollows and then found out it was the same writer lol. So far this Three Kinds of Lucky seems to be a fun way to dip your toes in with the author, as of the first two chapters, anyway. The sister's arc is probably the only one that felt engaging to me, but I tend to lose interest with blatant prophecy scenes, so that kind of killed it for the other characters. I liked the mage, but wanted much, much more with him. It did help me enjoy it when I tried not to be so cranky, but only just. I don't want to keep dissing the series, so I'll probably just DNF it now haha. I'm very excited you're both getting into Assassin's Quest!!

@@TheObsessiveBookseller It blows my mind that she’s doing vet school as well. I’m not cut out for medical boot camp 😂. What’s interesting is that I gave my wife book 1 in the hollow’s series and despite her love of the Truth series, she bounced off of it upon finishing it. I think she said it was too dark for her. For awhile, Calen’s sister’s and Dayne’s arcs were my favorite, though by the end of OD&L I warmed up to Calen some more. There are certain reveals of the story that I’m looking forward/dreading when it comes to Calen’s sister finding out about them that keep me engaged with her arc. As for Dayne, Cahill makes no secret that Dayne’s his favorite character to write. The Dune vibes are real 😂. I’m excited for Assassin’s Quest too! I hear it’s the most introspective of the Farseer Trilogy. Plus I’m excited for hunting scenes 😂!

Nice, rereading is high praise indeed. I hope I like it too - I was okay with Red Sister but ended up DNFing the second one.

It is so nice to do that! I'm hoping that by reducing the number of series I have going at once (and some unnecessary commitments) I'll be able to let my mood drive me more. Right now it's waaay to regimented.

Yes that's exactly what I was referencing. It seemed a bit thin and forced and I couldn't see the point of it other than to get from where they were to how I imagine he wanted to end the story. It's the only thing so far I haven't loved.

I'm so scattered I haven't been able to use picking up the next book immediately as a barometer on how much I liked something, but I'm hoping to change that. I think now it's whether or not I'm thinking about the next book or just totally lost in this one that predicts a 5 star! I haven't tried Spellshop yet, so I'm glad to hear it's good!! I have Singh bookmarked as to-read eventually. It's cool that Baldree did the audio - I'll be sure to go that route!

@@TheObsessiveBookseller Just to clarify it is the Forthright Amranthine Series that has Baldree as the audio. I haven't ever listened to Singh on audio (a little too much smut).

In this case neither is a bad choice first, but if you’re excited for WotM then go for it and then you’ll have a trilogy waiting to hold you over for the next one!

It’s so good. And I love that it was a character I didn’t even think twice about in the first trilogy that has all of this depth.

Haha I’m halfway through your vid (kids interrupted) and appreciate where you’re at! It stems from the same problem of soooo many books to read, it makes me feel like I need to read faster. I keep preaching that I’m going to stop starting so many series to help future me out, but my wrapups say I still suck at that. We got goals!!

That makes sense - it helps already being a fan of the franchise. I am a little ways into the Last Wish and it’s entertaining. Kind of episodic so far.

When people first started talking about it, I specifically told myself “I’m not reading that.” I was feeling ornery about the hyped stuff at the time. But then someone I trusted told me I’d like it because it was like Name of the Wind in space, and I caved. Hopefully you like it as much as I have! I’m so excited for those special editions.

Great lineup as well! I’ve heard such good things about Paks but haven’t made time for it yet. WoFA isn’t something I’ve been aware of - I’ll have to check them out! Not that I have a shortage of books to read. I’m limiting my reread to just Rhythm this year since I’ve read them all so many times, so I know what I’ll be doing in both November and December!

I hope you enjoy Mercy - it was such a cool book! I tried twice to get into Dagger and Coin and finally loved it the second time around. It's not my fav overall though from him. That is too funny!! I'm sure there are at least a dozen gems on my shelves that I haven't cracked yet that have been there for a decade or two. Your collection continues to inspire me.

There is definitely a small crossover, and I suspect there will be more as it goes along. It's distant enough though that you could read it without feeling like you're missing out. I worry about small things ruining the first series though if they were read out of order. But I'm very touchy when it comes to spoilers.

Haha it's nice that someone can relate. I've been spending a lot of spare brain power lately trying to figure out how to solve these reading woes. Trying to get myself back to more simplicity (fewer series), tuning into what I actually want to read that day instead of what I "should" read, and honestly, consuming less booktube content and spending less time looking at my unread books. They're starting points, anyway. But I want reading to be mindlessly fun again!
