    WAIT!!!!! You just blew my mind!!! I didn't know we can print our bookshelves in cover form!!!! I've been on Goodreads since 2010, and I never knew this!!!! You just made my decade Niki!!!!
    Anyway, I feel you! I also have so many series started (at least 20) so I know a little about your frustration! On top of all the other books in between. If only there is some way to print my bookshelves off of Goodreads so I can keep track better... wait...🤣🤣🤣
    I literally flew through the Runelord series by David Farland. However, when I first started reading the series, by book 3 (Wizardborn), I was so close to calling it quits. I just couldn't connect with the story. I am so glad I gave the fourth book a chance, because I ended up getting hooked on it! The series really grew on me. The sad part about it, while I was on book 8 (Chaosbound), I started looking everywhere for the last book and just couldn't find it. That's when I found out that the author had passed away, and I was really bummed.
    Keep up the great work, I love your channel!!!
    Good luck and happy reading!

      Thank you! I’ve also been on there about that long, and I don’t think I want to know if that’s a feature we both could’ve been using this whole time or if it was added recently. My life will never be the same!
      I took some writing classes from Farland and he mentioned even fifteen years ago that he knew how the series should end. I really hope the family finds someone to finish his legacy series. I’m looking forward to reading it again.

    It has been awhile but I think you can just pick up the 5th Runelords book. I read 5 and 6 shortly after they released and recall they have very little to do with the first books. Maybe I should Google that but the books were not comparable to the first four IMO.

      That’s good to know! Maybe it’s why there felt like a gap in publication - he went a different direction! This is one of the few I liked well enough that I want to restart it for the experience. The author was my writing mentor, so I want to have a moment with it.

    I'm with you on the Worldbreaker series. I absolutely need to do a re-read of the first two books in order to complete the trilogy.
    Bloodsong is one of my favorite books ever, and while I didn't enjoy the next two books as much, it was still a good trilogy overall. I made the mistake of doing book one of his next trilogy about the dragons in audio format and it totally killed all momentum and I've never gone back to any of his books.
    The only other series that I would need to do a re-read on is the Wall of Night series by Helen Lowe. The first three books were so dang good, but book 3 was released in 2016 and she's still working on the last book in the series. That's just too long to try and remember all the details.

    That is definitely a lot of series to restart. I would have to say, with perhaps a couple of exceptions for real standouts, I would just be refreshing my memory with summaries and carrying forward from there. In fact, that is what I will end up having to do in a few cases with series I have not read from in years.
    Of your top ten, Red Rising and Runelords are both in my TBR. I have not started either one. Someday I may get to Shadow of the Gods, but first I need to read The Faithful and the Fallen, which I already own, and then decide if I am going to continue with more of his books.

    I started the Sleeping Giants trilogy last month and just ended up reading all three books. A series has to be really special for me to want to read more than 3 books and even though I might stop reading it if it goes uninteresting. I gave up on the Throne of Glass series.

      That’s amazing - I love the ones that put my heaving reading planning aside. I haven’t allowed myself to indulge like that in years and years. It’s partly why I’m making so many reading changes right now. I want to be able to drop everything!

    I loved the Magyk series. I remember thinking the ending was just ok and then I reread them while I was pregnant and enjoyed them so much more. You should definitely read them with your kid. He’d like them.
    I remember stopping Dragonwatch and then going back later on someone’s recommendation. It’s been awhile, but I remember it getting better and liking it in the end.

      Oh good! I’ve been looking for something good to read with him. I liked the first one okay but remember nothing about it. Unfortunately I don’t actually own them haha. I’m glad DW gets better. I did read the third one all in one day, which might be why I got cranky at it. Too much at once.

    Great topic, hope you are well?
    I have started so many series, and not completed due to not liking the first book, or getting sidetracked with other books. I have many of these on my TBR or partially read series, LOl. So I am in the same position as you. There are also several i purchased and never started. I at least have read all the Anthony Ryan books, get to it, LOL. I also collected the entire Seven Swords series to date and only read book one, not sure if it's done.
    For me the worst offenses are Wheel of Time, read to Volume 8 and stopped, read book one twice. The Expanse read the first six, have to go back again and reread without the aid of the aid of the show; and lastly, The Malazan, read book one and book two twice, I eventually have to push thru.

      Hi Frank! I hope you’re well also, I’m going okay. Trying to be less busy. Especially with books. I really need to start with Ryan haha. I also reread Gardens twice before continuing. I read four books. I refuse to start that one over, so I’d better make plans to get back to it soon or it may never happen. Maybe once I finish my current physical before bed series.

    I definitely did the Red Rising reread, the first 4 books. Hopefully I won't have to do it again, I just checked and there's no real update in sight for book 7. Just a tentative January 1, 2025 on Goodreads but I don't think that's trustworthy.
    Let me know if you're interested in doing a Shadow of the Gods reread for a buddy read.
    Throne of Glass I'm hoping to finish by the end of the year. The youth services manager at my library said Kingdom of Ash is her all time favorite book so I gotta read it so I can talk with her about it. lol I only started this series last year so it's all still fresh.

    • @TheObsessiveBookseller
      @TheObsessiveBookseller  7 дней назад

      I’m too far behind to catch up with Throne of Glass, but that one would’ve been fun to BR.
      I also don’t think early 2025 is the right date either. I feel like we would’ve been seeing news and cover flashes by now. That’s good though, it will give me time to clean up a bit first!
      Yes for sure! I’d love to BR that one. I’ll let you know when I get close to picking it up.

    I vaguely recall reading wolfblade of that after Medalon and enjoying it; but given that was at release hard to say. I think I still have those :) Reading series can be interesting. Some work great if you read them all together and others definitely need time between them. I hadn't finished Maas Throne series either; maybe I will, maybe I won't :) I do plan to reread Elvenbane, supposedly a fourth book was slated and Lackey has rights back, but haven't seen anything beyond that. I have Poison Study on my agenda to do a reread with. I really enjoyed Ann Aguirre's Corine Solomon series and it did not out stay it's welcome being only 5 books. I am finishing off my what the hell have I read over the last 30 years list and then I'll start looking at authors and series that I want to read backlist or finish off because I do drift away from a lot of series when they go on forever.

      The hell have I read list haha. I’m close to having one of those. I’m hoping to whittle it down a bit before I revisit most of these. So many interesting titles. I’m especially pleased to see you liked the Aguirre series. Maybe that one should be higher up on my list than it currently is!

      @@TheObsessiveBookseller The upside is they are all under 350 pages; it's only five books and fairly bingeable if you want to sit down and read all five. I know for me some series get very repetitive and blah if read in a row.

  • @adrianmcmahon5731
    @adrianmcmahon5731 3 дня назад

    It's not really inefficiency that's the issue. You can't really force yourself to read a series of books back to back and exclude everything else while you do it as that makes the reading more like a chore rather than pleasurable. With your existing reading commitments on top you'll never get ahead of yourself and you'll forever be chasing an unattainable goal. What I generally do with series is I read them as I fancy reading the next one unless I'm seriously hooked and can't stop myself going "just one more", even if there are big time gaps between reading each one if I like a series enough I'll usually go back and read them through again a year or two later and get so much more from them on the second read process as it's more like comfort reading on the second go around. It's the same for me with rewatching films and TV shows I pick up things I missed the first time through as I was paying attention to another aspect of a scene first time but pick up background things and nuances that I overlooked initially.
    Go with what you want to read or are in the mood for, follow your wandering desire of what do I fancy reading next more or you could risk burning out the joy of reading for a while.

    For the record, Sarah J Maas is definitely no longer considered YA. 😂 And to add to your booklist, her other series (ACOTAR and Crescent City) both tie in to the ToG series, and therefore are all one giant series. I still haven’t read them. Maybe one day.
