Thank you Brian and I deeply respect the wisdom of words: "A good painter with a bad spray gun is better than a bad painter with a good spray gun". Because our first priority should always be to become better painters, owners of better guns is only second.
Pinned!!!
Tiger Woods could play better golf with my clubs than I could with his.
At the same time youre only as good as your tools will let you be.
I'm just a hobby builder out in my own shop, and I bought this same gun after the review Brian did a couple years ago as my "good" gun. I set it up just like he did, PPS, decent regulator.. It does everything I need it to and is easy to get good results with. Kind of cool to see him bust it out all this time later and have it still rank high on the budget gun list.
I did the same thing after his first review.
watched almost every video on this channel, bought a couple astro guns last year including that one, did a few jobs and i cant thank paint society enough. what a journey its been! this is the absolute best painting channel on youtube.
About your "factory orange peel" discussion, it reminded me of one of my old bosses that teached me a lot... He always was the only one doing the painting because, well, that was his favorite thing. He did a few restorations and mirror like finishes in the past, but his bread and butter was insurance work. And he got so good at spraying paint that he knew how to set up his gun to mimic that factory orange peel on every particular car!!!! I never learned his secrets as I was more a dismantler/metal work guy, but your videos are a huge help taking the anxiety off and understanding how the qualiity is in the know-how and not necessarily the equipment!
i bought this gun 2 years ago when you did your first review, let me tell you hands down best gun! There is no need for a better gun than this, unless you are painting everyday.
Bought one a few years ago based on your recommendation. I'm a DIYer and I don't have a booth. I will say this gun helped me fix my orange peel issues, it is easy to clean and unlike other cheap guns, it sprays consistent over and over. The other cheap guns I tried seemed to work well once and they were garbage.
I have 2 of those one I use for primer 1.7 . I get good customer support for getting additional tips. I love them. I worked in small shops in the 70s used siphon guns mostly binks and Sharpe . Starting up again all new paints and equipment has been a challenge especially the keep moving old man setting. Thanks for the video. Still able to buy those for under 80 bucks.
I have 3 Astro guns I've had for probably 20yrs+ they have always been an awesome value for someone that's a DIY occasional user like myself.
Key phrase + "it really doesn't make a difference if you know what you're doing"! Great review and lessons as usual.
Have had 4 of those for many years now, 2 minis and 2 full size...They were bright green then....Love them
Been using this gun exclusively in the garage for years. I like to turn the fluid in 1 turn because it's fast like you said and I was dealing with runs. 1 turn in on the fluid and slow down a little.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm not a painter, never tried but want to and you have given me the inspiration to give it a go. If I screw up it's just paint right. ✌️
Thanks for the tutorial on the orange peel goal.
Superb advice Brian yet again. Thanks alot..
I don't think people realize how long the Euro series actually has been around (at least 10 years!). It's just had a recent resurgence in popularity. It's a highly underrated gun and impressively light & smooth.
Always a good lesson. Thanks
I just received this spraygun in the mail yesterday which i ordered using your link in the description!! Thank you so much brian!!... you've helped me a ton!..much love bro❤...keep it up!!..im gonna attempt my first ever spray job on my car using knowledge i learned from you an other RUclips channels...i believe im a natural an should be able to get a 7/10 finish atleast
Good luck my friend!!
I've followed Brian now for years, I'm going to paint my cars bumper using the help Brian and his videos, let see if someone in US can teach someone in UK 👍,
Thank mate for years help and tips on spaying paint, 👍👍👍👌
Great content Brian!
Pretty sure Brian has the talent to blow on an OE finish with a Wagner Power Painter😊
I've noticed you flick your wrist at the end of each pass. Helps keep build thickness even?
Thumbed
Astro for the win.... he and the orange n green one too
Great video and lesson for all us painter newbs. Skill first :)
I was spraying benz leaves nice texture
Brian, thank you for all you do for people who are trying to learn how to paint your expertise and knowledge is awesome . I am into the LVLP paint guns and I have a small compressor 27 gallon. But what I'm wondering is with all the low volume. Low pressure guns that you've used on any of your videos. I've never heard you mention what size compressor you use with those guns. Other than the 1 video with the pancake compressor but I'm not using that gun or compressor.Id like to see which guns lvlp work best with a 27-30 gallon compressor.I'm using the arrow R 500. Id venture to say that most of the DIY garage type painting guys use a 30 gallon compressor. Thank you brother,Jim911
Sold my 3m performance 2.0 gun for this one HE astro one, the 3m adjustments were janky at best. Painting a grey metallic and looking forward to seeing how well this gun delivers with base/clear.
Been using these for years.
Awesome Brian
Hi Brian, I'm new to using a paint gun. I just bought one at an estate sale that's similar to the one in your video here. I'm wondering for the initial setup, how to adjust all of the knobs. Can you advise advise on how to initially setup the levels for the 3 knobs for the fluid, air and fan levels? Thanks! 👍😁
I wish I know how other guns work cause I bought this on first, and as a total amiture, I lay down paint so well with this
Excellent !
Hi Brian, I do some paint work, and I used to do alot more and was pretty comfortable. Now I paint 2 or 3 times a year and I am a nervous wreck and that is mostly because materials are so expensive. Before if I made a mistake I just fixed it! Now in the last 2 yrs. that I have been watching your videos I have made progress toward the confident side again. you Sir have helped me alot and I thank you! Have you ever tested Eastwood's LT gun?
I bought an LT100 and sprayed my very 1st and probably only vehicle. It was a challenge only because I had NEVER attempted such a task. After many, many coats, sanding those down, starting over and repainting it turned out decent. Showroom quality---not even close. But with some buffing and polishing it's OK. Love to redo it just to prove I could, but as my neighbor said, it's a driver so drive it😊
Muchas gracias Brain buen video
Hey Brian big fan!!! You have taught me a lot over the years… Quick question… For someone like me that’s just looking for a good gun for no more than a couple hundred bucks, which gun would you recommend. The Astro Euro Pro or the 2.0 Blackwidow?
Awesome!
Hey Brian, me and some buddies are getting into paint and we even got a small shop to practice in my question is what air compressor would be good to start with for a paint shop, or at least what air compressor specifications should I be looking at having for a shop that would run at most two spray guns at the same time sometimes but mainly one spray gun always
Hey buddy love all your vids really learning alot but really confused about gun choices, I'm using u-tech. The primer came out perfect 1.8 nozzle, just not sure about spraying the U350 single stage RM set-up can a use a HTE 1.3 like a blackwidow thanks
Brain
What type of paint lids do you use to seal and pour gallon and quart cans?
I bought the Harbor freight HTE Spectrum gun. I put down my second try at paint after trying to get my fan to work on my central pneumatic HTE purple HVLP 1.4 tip gun. The HVLP would just splatter the paint and leave dry patches inconsistent while doing the plastic front facia on my truck. So feeling confident I went ahead and used the Spectrum HTE 1.3 tip and sprayed my single stage on the truck bed with a perfect finish and no fluctuations in fan pattern or adamisation like the cheap HVLP Central Pneumatic did. Literally in the middle of my first paint job and have learned a tone from this gentleman. So my question is that is an HTE or an HVLP better? I am tempted to try an HVLP in the Harbor Freight Spectrum just to try both in the same quality league. Any experienced thoughts or info to help would be appreciated.
What CFM compressor do you need for this to work well Brian?
Hey Brian what clear do you use at your shop?
@paintsociety I just bought this gun for a project I am doing. What Air pressure do you recommend me starting at with that Astro gun. I don't see a 'max air pressure at cap' on anything I got.
I have been building a 1998 s10 for few years now ....I had one years ago when I worked part time in a friend's auto body repair shop i did a frame off custom build custom paint ....and sold it ...regrettedit .....I am going to do all the body work and paint on my 98 myself at home ....I don't have a booth but plan on making a make shift one outta of a metal carport and some plastic ....need a good cheap gun to shoot my sealer base and clear with ....would you suggest this one ?
Bryan im going to do my entire truck. A 2012 sierra 1500. Primer. Base. Clear. Can u suggest which gun for clear? And can i use the one in this video for primer and base?
Brian what psi for clear??. Thanks
I DK if you ever used a intertool Storm I bought one to paint my wife's bronco, me not knowing a good gun from a bad one I would like you're opinion
I like this one but man.......that Vevor hvlp is my favorite budget spraygun.
Can you please reference the gun and 2 others you recommend in each video? Comparable or cheaper that’s better. Since you make so many videos and so many guns it’s hard to keep up. That way we know which guns are comparable like for this one if it’s sold out which you also compare it to
@paint society what mm tip size did you get?
Ever nibbed out a dirt speck on a black panel and it become a white dot? What would you do in that situation?
You likely have videos out there on this but I would like to see how to properly clean and store a paint gun and its tiny parts.
Curious can you run a 0.8mm nozzle?
What min cfm compressor would u recommended to use?
Wish it was as easy as buying a gun. Dry clean air is the key
What pressure are you running?
What size tip do I purchase this gun with ?
This might be a dumb question but is orilleys paint good paint?
1:23 Brian how many air holes does yours have 1:30
I've been watching a lot of videos on the new revised harbor freight Black widow. I was done set on buying it. But one video said it requires a lot of air. Preferably an 80 gallon tank. So my question is this Astro gun for smaller compressors.
For a small compressor, I'd choose one the Rongpeng R500 based guns like Inokraftz, Aeropro, LT100, etc. The Euro is in between as it does consume a bit more air than the R500, but atomizes very good at only 20 psi with low overspray. IMO, it's better than either gun if you have the air supply. If not, get a R500
Hi Brian, I'm new to using a paint gun and was wondering if you can help me set up this new paint sprayer that I got at an auction. It's similar to the one in this video. Thank you! I just wasn't sure how to adjust the fan, fluid and air levels.
...how to set them up to the proper levels...
Also, when I was cleaning the gun, there was a tiny thin gasket inside the sprayer nozzle that I damaged when cleaning it. Do you know where I can get these thin little gaskets for the nozzle tip it was about an inch in diameter?? I also have a second spray gun that I got at the auction. Do you know where I can find a cap lid for the cup? It's an aluminum paint cup. It's one of those smaller paint cups that goes on top.
I see you set up the gun liquid to run wide open. Does that mean your hand is also running it wide open?
@PaintSociety Great Review !
Do you think this Astro is better than the R500/
a610?
Personally, I think so. The feel is much smoother and puts out more fluid without having to turn up the pressure.
I like
Would love to see a video on how to just repaint a car that has good paint and good clear i have a black car but i want a different black or maroon
Just scuff it with 600 grit and paint
And how many turns from closed for fan...
14:30, so this gun is the best value gun? It's better to spend @$30-100 on this, than the $50-100 on the r500/a610, 4000b, the TE20/T110, black widow, W101, ntools clone, or any of the others?
Painted my truck with this gun. Came out very nice and I’m a horrible painter.
So i get some thick orange peel on my clear every time. And have to sand and buff.. how do i lighten that orange peel up.. turn the fluid knob in some, Or pressure down, i usually run 23 psi, maybe 25, depending on the gun i use.
Decrease fluid or increase pressure.
Thank you
Do you recommend this gun to paint a whole car ?
What size tip do you recommend for base / clear
1.3
Is this the H827, or the Astro Europro, or the Auarita 898, or the burisch gtr500, or the "fast mover"?
The H827 / h827b, w, g, etc. seems to be the most popular gun on AE for
It's neither. The Euro series are one-off. The only company that shares the same is Star, which Star & Astro have been doing for years. Star is just the Australian version.
Any electric painting systems no matter how much i try to prevent water in air it pops up. I use 1 compressor to paint. Don't even use it to pump up a tire. Im good on small projects but a whole car... Not so much.
Hi Brian
Is this still the best budget gun as of 3/24 ?
Yes
bro just loves breathing in paint.
I’ve been painting about 3 years 2 maybe 2.5 years everyday in the booth I picked it up pretty quick and can lay it on like the 20 year painters in the shop. Not my compliment to myself just had some good guys and even better teachers along the way who pushed me to achieve far better than commercially acceptable. I have sata jet x5500’s and do well with them I’ve used a demo devilibus but the sata is my preference. After watching some videos and having a buddy buy the 1.3 hte from harbor freight and it actually amazed me for the money so I bought one with a coupon. The guys I worked with before I left to be the head painter at a dealer near me always told me the gun doesn’t make the painter . I honestly use the harbor freight gun for clear more than I do my sata it just seems to make it seem visually flatter without trying . I am using high solids clear that isn’t reduced so I probably need a 1.4 or better instead of my 1.3s but the black widow seems to put it on a little thicker so i don’t have to slow down like I do with my satajet obviously I can get a great finish with what I am comfortable with but the price of the fun does not matter like some people think. I doubt it will last as long as a sata will but I’m anxious to see . I really like your budget gun videos as you prove my point often . Being a 24 year old kid I assumed the guys would doubt me but so far I’ve been able to have their faith .
I thought the 1st coat of clear he was going to lay it on light looks like he pounded it on ?
It is light. The camera makes everything look glossy
Thanks for the content. Hobofrieght has their black widow series spray gun on sale frequently. Have you ever reviewed them?
I believe he has.
What’s the knock off stand don’t see the link
Hi. Just updated it. Check it out
Realistically, a good gun will be the better tool for a bad painter to learn since they won’t have to fight with inconsistencies or shortcomings of a bad gun that a good painter has the experience knowledge to work around
U didn't put the link for knock off bumper stand
Its there 😇
looks a lot like a STAR ultra addition
Astro and Star have been related for years. Star is the parent company, but mainl6 sold in Australia. Astro is the US version. My original Astro Evo4014 even says Star S4000 on it.
yes the gun matters, but the painter makes the final product. he is a very good painter.
similar to STAR evo made in taiwan
Same company.
👍👍
Looks like a Fuji knock off.. awesome results
It's been around much longer than Fuji... much longer. It can be dated at least back to 2013
🐐🐐
I don't think the owner of the car would be impressed that you are using a $70 water pistol. 😅
I tried to spray a high solids clear with this gun.... didn't have any luck doing so. Went back to my black widow for the win.
Almost bought the BW, but the Kiwami was the same price and will blast hs clear like glass.
Fun fact: Matco sells this exact same gun rebranded under their name for $250
Thieves!
It’s more about who’s behind the gun
Promo-SM ☝️
YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD it's the guy behind the tool, not the tool .... practice practice practice
The problem with the cheap chinese crap is the very low QC. You could get a great product one time and the next 5 times it could be absolute garbage. Or, if you are really unlucky, you may not even get a spray gun like the guy who got a completely different product than he ordered from amazon.
Astro has been around for decades. I bought my first one over 20 years ago as my first spray gun, and the new ones are even better. I called the company and bought different needle & seat assemblies and can spray a variety of viscosities with one gun. I have the EuroHE and a Euro EvoT that does a nice job laying down fine metallics, even for blends. There are times I prefer them over my Devilbiss and other guns, especially for small jobs. They don't put out much overspray either.
Astro and Star (same guns) don't fall under that category. They're actually Taiwanese made and higher quality than those mentioned. I can sense that it bothers you, but that's something personal
