Thank you very much for this beautiful choice of Bernard's solos.. i think they're all the best for me too.. His masterpiece is ''The Asphalt World'' where he took really the Top of his guitar's expression .... i really love his music.
Yeah, Dark Star made the list. Man, that's my favorite Suede song. I'm a huge Butler fan. Great guitar playing. I know nothing of Marr's style, so I can't compare the two guitarists.
Great video! Bernard is my favourite guitarist, a fitting tribute. You are missing the ending to the full version of "Stay Together" mind, preferably from Blackpool 1994
surprised not to see this hollywood life sollo on here. that one is gritty and thrilling. and for me we are the pigs is far and away this most quality esp with the second guitar coming in part way through.! god i love this guys playing. the greatest rhythm guitarist after k richards i feel.
butler is my fave guitarist of all time...Oakes is Ok, but Butler invokes the spirit of tasteful rock&roll....subtle sloppiness and free will in notes spills out of his hands and heart...Oakes is good but too perfect and at times dainty...Butler captures the true spirit of Suede in it's lushful sloppy melodic rock&roll form...my fave solo is from "We Are the Pigs"...only Butler can produce a solo that much of the "Suede" feeling.
@edwardpeach On the whole no but try 6.05 - 6.45, We are the pigs. Most definatley a solo. Not as in the playing of lots of notes but as in the bursting release of emotions and telling of a whole story through music
I prefer the version of the solo from He's Dead when they perform it live on Love & Poison, it's rough and scratchy but the sound and energy is probably one of my favourtite moments of his. I met Richard Oakes cousin in a pub once when I was still in school and obnoxiously told her after a few drinks I should have replaced Butler because I 'could play Suede's albums too' (at least she said he was his cousin). I don't think I could have ever written anything like either of the fellows though.
There are many great guitar players but Johnny Marr is definitely one of the unique ones with his beautiful melodic guitar playing....and Bernard's biggest influence!!
probs one of the best guitarists of the 90's near definatly top ten, behind people who will always be legends like Jonny Greenwood, but hes definate in the top ten, shame he left to be hpnest having said that ive only heard three or four songs just getting into them.
Basically, scrap this lot, listen to People Move On. It contains all the best guitar solos of all time....let alone by just this one man. Bernard you are fucking amazing and hands down my favourite guitarist ever!
My opinion, sorry I have no opinion on this. But the strumming on The Power is grand, pure gutter glamour. I think in terms of gutter glamour it is wonderful work. But not art in the same way as Johnny Marr did it who is probably a better guitarist in a better band. I think I am going to study his guitar tabs. I believe the tone is distortion going to AC30 amp. He may not be a genius guitarist but I like that gutter glamour which makes him more of a humanistic guitarist of which there are few. I believe he is between Robin Trower and Don Mcclain, some may call this the middle of nowhere like Neil Young, but I like it. P. S ZIG ZACK BY RAMMSTEIN IS ALSO AMAZING AND SIMPLE. THERE NEW SINGLE.

moving solo fucking rocks, bernard is propoply the best guitarist of his generation, surely one of the best ever
They are all so beautiful, he definitely has a gift. You can tell when someone loves what they're doing.

Am I the only person whose favourite is Animal Lover from Suede's debut? It's just amazing.
Great video! Bernard is my favourite guitarist, a fitting tribute.

The Asphalt World is EPIC.
We Are the Pigs. That's the best one!
The Asphalt World is genious solo work!!!
The Asphalt World is the best!!!
No disrespect to Richard Oakes, but Bernard Butler is my favourite Suede guitarist ever.
I feel like even Richard would say bernards influenced him and is better than him
Delete *Suede*

And yet...he's even better than that!
Props for including "Fallen Idol".
Hear, hear. Epic solo ❤
You sir, have the taste and judgement of the gods 👏👏👏👏
for me Bernard Butler is the George harisson of the 90"s..
more of a Mick Taylor
bernard's solos were always kind of ok, but it was his absolutely thick, meaty and menacing riffs that were why he was so good.
the riff for 'we are the pigs' and 'metal mickey' are just THE BEST.
What about his BLAZING solo and outro solo on Neneh Cherry's "Woman"?? He rips it to shreds on that tune.
Haven't noticed but I'll look out for it. That does happen with I Am The Resurrection though.
No, he appeared in video to NG, but music on Dog Man Star was written by Butler.
genius

There is beautiful Butler soloing on Cocoon also.
Short but beautiful
Is so beautiful!
I still air guitar to the solo in We Are the Pigs all the time
animal lover is 1 of my favourite suede songs but Still Life and Pantomime Horse are the two suede songs i want to listen to all the time
I prefer the version of the solo from He's Dead when they perform it live on Love & Poison, it's rough and scratchy but the sound and energy is probably one of my favourtite moments of his. great idea vid!!really cool^-^
It's a real damned loss he didn't get to be in Suede for any longer.
Does anyone remember Chris Morris doing an impression of We Are The Pigs as played by Neil Young?
Brilliant.
There are many great guitar players but Johnny Marr is definitely one of the unique ones with his beautiful melodic guitar playing....and Bernard's biggest influence!!
No "Moving", thats a cracking lead solo...
Is this clip from The Asphalt World from a remaster? It sounds a bit weird compared to how I know it on the LP...
probs one of the best guitarists of the 90's near definatly top ten, behind people who will always be legends like Jonny Greenwood, but hes definate in the top ten, shame he left to be hpnest having said that ive only heard three or four songs just getting into them.
Great stuff, but you need to substitute he's dead with the live solo from the love and poison live version, its awesome mate!
he is very good pop guitarist
Basically, scrap this lot, listen to People Move On. It contains all the best guitar solos of all time....let alone by just this one man. Bernard you are fucking amazing and hands down my favourite guitarist ever!
asphalt world編曲就是一個無底漩渦每聽一遍便陷得更深 尤其是在寒冷的漆黑的北京冬夜 插上耳機 點一隻煙
I'm not criticising the content of this list but just wondered why you chose a top 9 and not top 10? Hell with BB you could of had a top 50!
What about the stuff he did with mcalmont???
my favourite guitarists are Hank B. Marvin and Joe Brown, Englishmen who got started in the 1950s, but Butler might just be the best 1990s guitarist.
And to think my dark star was a b side!
I'd have Animal Nitrate at number 1.
what is song No. 3? (one with the whistling)
+lecrapauddejerri9 Fallen Idol by Tears
Bernard Butler's great , but Richard Oakes is not bad TOO!!!
Where is Has Your Mind Got Away solo? Ten times better than New Generation
But...isn´t Richard Oakes the one on New Generation solo?
daytripperarrabal no
He seemed to play it in the video, but it was written and recorded by Bernard.
My opinion, sorry I have no opinion on this. But the strumming on The Power is grand, pure gutter glamour. I think in terms of gutter glamour it is wonderful work. But not art in the same way as Johnny Marr did it who is probably a better guitarist in a better band.

P. S ZIG ZACK BY RAMMSTEIN IS ALSO AMAZING AND SIMPLE. THERE NEW SINGLE.
Because of time limit - 10 min max. :(
his solo is like when you take morphine too much and you play the guitar and record it for the whole days.. thats how it sounds.
mmm ...the 'trash' solo is memorable
Richard
Not Bernie
Richards guitar solo on I don’t know how to reach you is in this league.
Doesn't "The new generation" belong to Richard?
Sounds different to traditional Bernard Bulter Solo
Written by Anderson & Butler.
Thats no bad thing.
Now that you mention it... There really wasn't! He was just amazing wasn't he?
mmm... We are the pigs.
There wasn't a single memorable guitar solo from Suede after Bernard left the group.
i dont know how to reach you. thats a simple solo. not by bernard standards but its memorable enough
Nice...Butler wasn't as good as Johhny Marr or John Squire mind
better...i was guitar tech FOR ALL 3 IN DIFF TIMES
I've seen better guitarists in pub bands in Bognor. He's not even top 1000 of the 90s
He pinch your lunch money? 😂
says a sheep shagger who looks like a she-man dug up ffs
