    THANK YOU for uploading this. What an absolute joy. Ok, so fundamentally I'm sitting for an hour watching two blokes from London talking. Right there is the power of music.
    The joyful memories of me being 21 years old with a full head of hair and no money. Waiting patiently outside Portsmouth Pyramid Centre in Southsea in 1993 (I'm from Manchester).
    They arrived for the soundcheck, I met them, I hugged them, I watched them play the gig later (I'm on the bootleg video). I still have a fragment of Brett's black lacy top from that gig. Saw them in Liverpool and Manchester days later on the same tour. Happy memories.
    Painted People throw away? What are you two on about? It's phenomenal.

      'Cathedrals of noise' is a reference to journalistic descriptions that were commonly used by the British music press in particular Melody Maker and NME writers to describe shoegazing bands in the early nineties. These types of descriptions were so overused they became a cliche. I think is why the label Sonic Cathedral chose their name. They had a club night playing shoegaze music before they started the label. Is somewhat tongue in cheek.

Because it's apparently totally ok to keep throwing someones mental health crisis back in their face 30 years later.
      Brett - off his face on smack and crack through most of the mid to late 90s - not very nice to be around or work with as testified by people who *were* there including Brett himself. But people just ignore that because Bernard is apparently an easier person to dislike.

      @sunny70299 Год назад +4

      I don't think it's annoyance at all. I think it's hurt. He and Brett were close friends and Bernard had supported Brett when he fell apart after he broke up with Justine, in his book Brett says Bernard was kind and patient and helped him glue his fractured world back together. So I think Bernard would be justified in feeling hurt that when his world fractured after his dad died while they were on tour, Brett didn't want to know. Brett had his reasons for being what he called an "emotional coward" which is that Bernards dads death stired up memories of his mums death and he didn't want to face them so instead he shut Bernard out and stopped talking to him. He has expressed regret for letting Bernard down. But he also said they never talked any of this through, so this interview was possibly the first time they discussed any of these issues. Tough to do it on camera and it shows in their body language.
      I feel for them both.

      If he was still annoyed he wouldn't have worked with Brett in The Tears. Plus, in several interviews in recent years, he's taken on much of the blame for his departure from the band. Both him and Brett admitted they handled it badly. I think all of the band were hurt by Bernard's behaviour. Bernard going behind their back to give an interview without their knowledge to Q Magazine, titled "Brett drives me insane", where he basically spent all his time publicly slagging Brett off, obviously caused massive damage and friction. Brett was bady hurt. Demanding Ed be sacked as producer again caused huge friction. Having a disagreement with Simon about drums on New Generation and Bernard storming at him "just do your job" burned any remaining bridges with him. You can't be a dictator in a democracy, however important you are. Ironically, Ed stated he was the last person to fall out with Bernard, even though Bernard was going around trying to get him fired. It was like Bernard was going through the entire band, one by one, and burning bridges with them all.
