      @@bobfg3130 what you need for that is to replace the First-Past-The-Post voting you have with Ranked Choice.
      Any third party or independent vote in a First-Past-The-Post system is wasted. But with Ranked Choice... so long as you preference who you consider the greater evil below who you consider the lesser evil, you can vote for whoever you want and still contribute to said greater evil not winning.
      We have that system here in Australia... though we call it 'Preferential Voting'. While we still pretty much have a two party duopoly, our third parties and independents still have a better chance of establishing a presence with enough power to put those major parties on notice.
      In the New South Wales State Parliament, my local member is an independent who managed to win what was once considered a 'safe seat' for Labor. And he has done more for my local electorate than Labor ever did. In fact, he is one of the few people I can honestly say I'm happy to be voting FOR. And before he won that seat, he had already chalked up an impressive record as the Mayor of my city.
      What is the likelihood that a candidate like him can truly make it as far as he did in the American system?

    • @originaluddite
      @originaluddite 22 дня назад +2

      The ideal of a parliament of independents is very difficult to imagine in a modern mass society, but yes, having more than a few parties can work. It would allow for shifting and changing alliances and a recognition that you cannot be too divisive because one day you might need to work with parties adjacent to you. Of course, a 'first past the post' electoral system works against such viewpoint diversity.

    • @julianegner5997
      @julianegner5997 21 день назад +5

      @@originaluddite we have about 50 different political parties in germany, about 10 are important, and anyone can found a new party. To hinder a totally splitted parliament like we had in the weimar republic in the 1920s and beginning of 1930s, a party needs to get at least 5% of the votes to get into parliament.
      2 parrties are not enough, and the US system, especially for voring the president, is not anywhere close to fair. It does not matter if all californians vote for one candidate, because the middle west states are overrepresented. A fair vote would count any vote the same.

    I am a former Republican. I was a teenager in the early 80s and LOVED debating my liberal friends. It was fun because we disagreed on policy, but agreed that what we were suggesting was for the good of all Americans. The end goal was the same. Yes, we differed on the Cold War and military spending. But we agreed that the people living under Communism didn't have that luxury of debate. I miss those days.
    Now we have a GOP built on nothing but hate, and returning our nation to some make-believe Rockwell print with the woman in the kitchen and the man coming home for dinner to his white suburban utopia.
    Reagan was respectful and admired immigrants. He gave many amnesty. Reagan wanted an assault weapons ban. Reagan called out dictators for what they were, evil.

      A tribal elder was on public broadcasting years ago - about 15 years ago speaking to some young Hispanics and asking them to stop crossing the border into their reservation - they just laughed at her.
      So, who are you to complain about the "hate" and be more specific. You just want the affection of the cartel members or whom?
