    -Rejecting democracy for a strongman
    -Stoking rage against cultural elites
    -Nationalism based on “superior” race
    -Glorifying strength and warriors
-Disdain of women and LGBTQ+ people
These five elements find exact expression in Donald Trump.

Giovanni Gentile had an entire section stating that the fascists were against intellectuals but were not actually against science, technology, or culture. If you remember the past then you’d remember that Fascism wasn’t the problem of the interwar years, it was the symptom. The problems are easily solvable, yet they remain unsolved as the world’s elite keeps moving further and further to the left, trying to destroy every last piece of western heritage. Hitler was right in that there was a problem, because there most definitely was major problems for Weimar Germany in the interwar years, and it very much looks like the USA Today (Hyperinflation, Radical Left-Wing Ideological Encroachment, National Humiliation, Political Chaos). Then again, Hitler was a visionary of his own ideology which had been influenced by his troubled youth and taught his racial hierarchy. Trump is far from Hitler: A successful businessman, thirty years older, never served in combat, wasn’t a very good politician, all of these things are the exact opposite of Hitler. Hitler was a failed artist, veteran WW1 soldier, Charismatic and Expert politician with a very big ideological agenda of his own.

It's important to acknowledge that nationalism and white Christianity are not inherently fascist. Nationalism, in its moderate form, can be a legitimate expression of cultural and political identity. Similarly, religion is an important part of life for many people and does not automatically imply adherence to fascist ideologies.
The term "fascist" is complex and laden with historical significance, and should not be indiscriminately applied to describe any person or political movement with conservative or nationalist views. Doing so can distort its meaning and trivialize the gravity of fascist regimes of the 20th century.
It's important to note that the use of political labels like "fascist" can be controversial and subjective, and it's crucial to carefully examine the context and specific actions of each individual or movement before applying such terms. Over-simplification can lead to misunderstandings and polarization in political discourse.

The playbook for this is Thomas More's "Utopia" which sort of sounds appealing and equally terrifying. Thank you, Robert, for this clarifying video. I have friends who refer to Trump as an authoritarian. I think doing so is based on the corporate media’s squeamishness in assigning the “f” word to Trump and his supporters. A large part of this denialism is also based on an entrenched insistence that America is exceptional, that we are a remarkable and strong people, that a Hitler could not flourish here. Ironically, this claim to exceptionalism is a fascist trait, which has always worried me in regard to Americans’ potential to eventually embrace it. And here we are with the most recent polls indicating a dead heat between Trump and Biden. Unbelievable, but perhaps an inevitable pivotal moment given the fascist fissures embedded in the American character.

Authoritarian mindset ( first identified in a 1947 study) is what makes facism possible.
People with the authoritarian mindset conform to strong leaders. If the strong leader is democratic then they become Democratic. If the strong leader wants to be president for life, then they become in favor of presidents for life.
About one-fourth of any population have the authoritarian mindset.
I think most of them are clumped in the Republican party right now.

@@macmcleod1188 I understand and appreciate your points, but Mr. Reich dedicated this video to focusing on the distinctions between the authoritarian and fascist mindset. In doing so he drew a very bold and straight line to Trump and his supporters/enablers that identifies them as fascists, who are far more dangerous than authoritarians in the destructive ways they seize and wield power.

No education on the subject is complete without reading _Imperialism, The Highest Stage of Capitalism_ by Lenin. A very unsuccessful fascist at that. With emergency federal powers handed to him on a silver plate and having the opportunity to institute totalitarian police state powers to shut down small businesses and restrict the practice of civil rights he ceded the authority to individual states. Most did not go so far as to do so, though many did with even a few going so far as to issue edicts to purge the elderly by isolating them from care.
