  • The Notre-Dame d'Aix-les-Bains church, former Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption collegiate church, is a church built in a Byzantine-inspired style at the end of the 19th century in the city of Aix- les Bains in Savoy. The construction project began in 1875 at the request of the priest Pavy. The Church of Our Lady, parish of the Assumption is located in the city center of Aix-les-Bains. A competition of architects was organized to design the religious building and was won by Arthur Bertin. The construction was entrusted to the Bonna company. Work began in 1890 and ended in 1892, although in reality modifications were still made until 1905. The building takes the form of a cross. The general appearance is of Byzantine inspiration. The crossing of the transepts supports a dome. Its green bell tower, due to the oxidation of its cover, is made of wood, its tower rises 55 meters above the forecourt. One can also contemplate its simple barrel vaults which, for their part, are rather of Romanesque inspiration. The Stations of the Cross, in the process of being classified in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments, comes from Spain, from where it was brought back by General Forestier, during Napoleon's campaigns. As for the paintings of the twelve apostles, classified since 1976, and preserved in the choir, they certainly come from Italy, according to the expertise, and would be from the 17th century. This building dominates the city of Aix from its heights. It is very present in the daily life of the inhabitants. Its car park is transformed during the week into a public car park, due to its central location in the urban fabric.
