The only NES Ninja Gaiden I was ever able to beat. Was also my favorite one to play. The soundtrack and the use of shadow doubles was badass. This game is just full of win.
+RachniThane Thumbs up, buddy! Thanks for mentioning this STUNNING scene. I still cannot believe the nes was capable of giving me emotional goosebumps but this scene STILL does it for me. Props to Tecmo for creating such a story-driven classic with minimal technology. "EPIC" is definitely the word! Hell, games today don't even have that "x" factor.
I swear if I ever beat Ninja Gaiden, I'm gonna take a photo & frame that shit. Anyone who beats the games in this series deserves to be in a video game hall of fame.
M Da Martian Woww, seriously??? I always knew they were tough but didn't think people think they were THAT tough. I beat Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II when I was like 10-12 years old.
+Loneman1 I could never beat Ninja Gaiden 1. Always got stuck in the same spot near the end. Ninja Gaiden 2 I beat a few times. Its hard but more doable. Love the soundtrack, box cover and added weather effects in NG2.
+M Da Martian I beat the second a long time ago when I rented it over a weekend. I played so much my eye lids were twitching like crazy. I still can't finish one though. 25+ year later and no success. I watch Angry Video Game Nerd talk about the 3rd one and it seems to be more intense than the other two. I finally found these games again so come hell or high water, I'm beating these damn games one day.
This is the easiest in the NES trilogy. Hell, only 2 of the levels in the first one are that difficult, and that just boils down to one jump in each of them. The third one just requires a bit more practice due to the limited continues, otherwise it's only moderately more difficult than this one. Now Streets of Rage 3, that was a real bastard considering you could only beat it on the highest difficulty, which the US Easy difficulty was the Japanese Hard.
I just had a flashback now: It was the 90s and Friday evening I asked my parents if I can go to my friend Edward’s house for a sleepover. So I got on my skateboard and rode it until I got to a downhill and went down fast on my knees going fast until I reached my friend’s apartment. I knocked on his door said hello to his parents, I went upstairs to his room and he was already on Act III. What was crazy that there was a thunderstorm!
I had been playing Ninja Gaiden 3 nes since early 2000's when I was 6-7 years old. I remember (and noticed) most of the time that whenever I played that game esp. during the Summers and/or Monsoon, lightning and thunderstorm appeared for the most part. Similarly, since I had limited games back then it was until 2012 when I got first played NES NG 2 and completed it, whenever I played most this NG 2: Dark Sword of Chaos, most of the times, intense rain and thunderstorms appeared (not every time but most of the time). To me, it really feels like the thunderstorm and rain weather are the really meant for this iconic game such that these weather matches with the frequencies of the awesome soundtracks of this epic game series.
This game was already on a higher calling type level but the addition of the triple orange ninjas made it magic!I loved playing this game with my brothers on illegal ROM CD....memories. :)
That music in the first level when game begins might be the greatest video game music ever!! Basically all the music in this game is just perfect in every way!!
That's something I always enjoyed about the Ninja Gaiden series. The music has you ready to kick some ass, until those damn spiders and eagles flying by, knocking you off platforms, & crap makes you want to throw the games out on the freeway. It made me feel that way.
My god, the thing had an actual ending and cutscenes. Even as a kid, one thing I was always disappointed over was how little work was put into endings in NES games lmao. You go through some epic and finally win after 6 months and there is just some screen that says something like "thank you" or "you have vanquished the bad guy" 😂😂
Oh, the memories... both sweet and frustrating at the same time. Also, the one game that made one of my best friends literally cry in sheer frustration, LMAO
I love Ninja Gaiden II for the NES. That was my second game I own along with Super Mario Bros. 3, my first video game. Ninja Gaiden II for the NES brings back so much memories, and i love playing this game.
I like the cutscenes! So detailed for a NES game. And the music also wonderful. In the old days, when you finished a game, you feeled so satisfied. Nowadays... just a few developer can accomplish this task. Very few.
This is a brilliant series that I so badly wish could come back. Not the PlayStation set of games or whatever system the "newer" games were. Those are nothing compared to these, story and music and gameplay.

In my opinion, there were no games for the NES that rivaled the Ninja Gaiden series. They had the best graphics, gameplay, challenge, story, and soundtrack. These were _not_ easy games to play: They required absolute precision in timing- with your jumping, sword-slashing, and even when you took hits if you wanted to get all the way through the game(s). I have always wondered whatever happened to Robert after 34:05 whether he survived or died in his battle with the bad guys. I'm sure he died since it never showed him joining Ryu and Irene as Ryu was battling Jaquio (it's weird that Ryu never talked about him wondering what happened to him and he probably didn't want to go back and check him out feeling that he didn't want to deal with the bad guys and all the dangers again) and Robert was never seen or talked about on the third game called "Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship Of Doom."

Rather have this then the Xbox/Playstation 3D versions any day of the week. Come on Team Ninja make a new 2D Ninja Gaiden that can make a fan of the NES games to start to pull hair and start to drink hard liquor all night to beat the damm game.
The cutscenes are so awesome back then, I don't even wanna skip them once.
you said it.
Out of the three games Ninja Gaiden 2 was the best.
killacowboys1 I like one and 2 for nes
Ninja Gaiden 2 was my favorite as well. It had the best music out of the three games too.
Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 were great, the story went together. Ninja Gaiden 3 was terrible, with the science fiction route with spaceships and aliens.
My favorite is the first game: Ninja Gaiden 1.

Purple Pumpkin Me? Hell no. I have a young cousin who is though. Whatever I wrote about this scene, i was joking and hinting at it being sexual because that's what it looks like....
+Robert Anderson some folks just don't get sense of humour...
Gus Rudder Yeah. I've been that way quite a few times myself. I have a twisted mind.....
Robert Anderson tell me about it...
🎉 02:13 this THEME is WONDERFUL ❤
I wish there was a trilogy of movies based off the NES trilogy
Truly the best
I never played this one. I played the first game. Got quite far but never beat it. I ended up doing a Wiccan seance and threw it into hell. Last time I heard Dante was trying to beat it. Bloody good play through. By far superior to the first game.
Nice soundtrack in this game.
You are correct in the story and characters aspect. I don't care much for the stories in the current gen Ninja Gaiden series.
Ninja games are the best genre :-)
Given the tools, nes probably will have the title for best sound tracks. They did a LOT with very little (tmnt2arcade fight me)
Rather have this then the Xbox/Playstation 3D versions any day of the week.
Come on Team Ninja make a new 2D Ninja Gaiden that can make a fan of the NES games to start to pull hair and start to drink hard liquor all night to beat the damm game.
ese es el mejor juego de video que yo jugué en los 90 y lo pase todo
They should do a movie with the storylines of Ninja Gaiden (Shadow Warriors in Europe) 1 and 2.
