Miss playing this with my dad as a kid. It was awesome when we finally beat it. Getting this and Solar Jetman back for a trip through memory lane. Two of his favorites. RIP Love you and miss you dad...
Michael Vaught I get the same feeling when I play Mike Tyson Punch-Out. My dad and I would stay up all night on weekends trying to beat Piston Honda but always fell short of beating him. Now I blast through it flawlessly but I can't play it without memories of my dad flooding my thoughts. Believe me brother...I know exactly where your coming
Kole Mancuso When he first passed I wouldn't play any of the old games that reminded me of him but within the last month or so I decided why do that its a great way to remember him and the good times by playing these childhood favorites again.
it was 26 years ago, playing with him lot of times together this GEM... still can remember all these misterious music and sound effects. Holy shit. It was perfect in that time.
I was crazy about that game. And i have intro music as a ringtone on my mobile. Whole soundtrack is amazing to me. Those melodies are stuck in my head forever.
My favorite game from the early 90s. Remember when it came out. It was a family game we played as a kid im the only one to make it to the end but lost. Miss this so much. The beehive had us stumped for weeks. No youtube or internet to get hints. Back then you had to solve it yourself or write a letter to the company and sometimes they sent you tips and tricks.
So many people failing to see all the things that make this game amazing. The first game was basically a twitch platformer, the second game was more of that, but with more RPG elements and item acquisition. In the third, they even give you a story that makes the format of the game make sense. You're weary from your travels and have to get stronger in order to defeat Malkil a third time, so you hide out in Piedup and join various guilds to get stronger. I think this game is very clever, and an appropriate third installment. They did something fresh with each game, and if they made this one more like the first two, people would complain about how they didn't do anything different. Smh.
Dolly Cakes I agree. I played this game as a child. It was very challenging and very creative with the costumes. I personally prefer this one over the first two. It's a matter of preference. I think this game is underrated and is getting so much underserved hate...
I appreciate the effort to do something different in the 3rd game but to me, especially after Ironsword, this was a big let down. I really tried to get into it and enjoy it but it falls flat every time. Shame.
I guess jumping into a time portal is one way to avoid being forced into marrying princesses just because you rescued them. It would be really awkward to show up as the groom at three weddings, especially of sisters. I'm sure even "Good King James" might object to all three of his daughters marrying Kuros.
This game was mostly made by the Pickford Bros as was Ironsword. Apparantly development for this got stopped just before it being finished for one reason or other and one of the other programmers working on it finished it on his own in his spare time. To me it always felt like it wasn't as fleshed as it could be and what I said above might the reason why. I love all the W&W games though.
It's for what was suppose to be the next sequel to the game. He time travels to the future where you do battle with the main villain but it was never made. =/ ~JagOfTroy

I mean I still played but not like I did in the 80’s and like I do now. Nothing beats the first one. This one looks ok but the other two have badass musical scores. Nostalgia
you mean FORWARD to the year 2191 .... They were gonna make a 4th game called: Laser Sword but never did. :/ I guess rare Entertainment cancelled out the whole franchise...
Thanks for doing a long run of this MFer of a game. I never beat it so this was very satisfying to behold. All the lack of combat and running in circles. Just gawr to the painful memories watching this seeing all the same problems surface of running in circles even when you got the key items in hand.
Yeah i'm kind of glad i skipped this one... after all, the atmosphere and music of the first two are what really grabbed me. It sure af wasn't the controls.
+Kimmo Männikkö Woulda been better for the whole trilogy if they had ever done anything about the shitty swordplay though. I swear, despite beating all the games, my only gripe is that you have to swing your sword around aimlessly just to hit something without taking damage - or accidentally jump into it. Other than that, yeah I enjoyed the series also.
That pink wizard looks like he's holding on to that staff... awkwardly lol. Also, it's probably just me but it seemed the wizard always walked to the beat of his music (when he did walk lol). Thanks for the show man!
This brings me back. The music, the poor controls, the tavern keepers chucking you out. No saves. Get that, no saves. This game was brutal as a kid with 0 gamefaqs like today. Great video even if my comment is years later.
This is my all time favourite Nintendo Game I feel like a 7 year old again 😆 I started playing this when I was 7 or 8 I was 29 when I clocked it on a nes emulator on a computer The satisfaction I got us unrivalled 💯😎
Why so much hate for this game, I played all 3 and enjoyed this one more. also wondering if he realised that you won't get attacked by maidens in the castle if ur in knight form 😛
I've played and beat 1, got to the end of 2 but couldn't beat it, and only played this one a little. Oddly enough I don't think I ever owned any of them, must have all been rentals so couldn't hammer at them for hours.
You realize you don't have to kill the townspeople if you're wearing the right clothing, right? Knights Guild in the Castle, Thief's Guild in the town, and they'll pretty much leave you alone. (Everybody hates Wizards, though, so they're stuck underground where nobody loves them.)
Ah, I've got such fond memories of playing this game. The only thing I regard as a big flaw, besides the obvious poor hit detection when playing as a knight, is that each new guild rank ability replaces the previous one. The wizard's ones in particular could have been exploited to add some more variety and challenges to the last levels. Oh, well, maybe one day, Rare will remember that their library stretches further back than Banjo Kazooie. 😓
Right? Back then music was very melody driven and frequently used a lot of genres like rock, punk, and electronic to push the action forward. Now games are all about "beats" and ambient music that is completely forgettable for the purpose of creating "Atmosphere". Hate it.
JazGalaxy For the most part yeah. There are still plenty of games with good soundtracks, bu these electronic sounds (inspired by different genres) hold a certain place in my gaming memory. It's why a "retro" game like Resogun really grabbed me (other than it's an awesome game) because of the great sound effects.
Oh totally, Resogun is great. I think I really mourn the concept of the theme song. I have absolutely no idea why most games fail to have a rousing theme song of some kind. When you think Halo, you immediately think of it's theme. When you think Deus Ex, for me, you immediately think of it's theme. But I feel like 99% of modern games have completely forgettable ambient noise. When you think of the game, you think of... nothing.
JazGalaxy Yeah that sounds about right, especially with Halo and Deus Ex (damn I could sit on that Start Screen all day). But yeah, there are only maybe a handful of current games with original music that I could actually pick out based upon their "theme song". And even games with decent music don't really have a track or soundbyte that sticks out. Hell, the Final Fantasy Victory music is like 5 seconds of sound but almost any gamer who hears it immediately recognizes it as Final Fantasy.
I remember buying this game back in 1992 after playing it a lot in my now defunct mall the previous year before..The wizard tests especially the last with those excruciating small platforms drove me nuts..While I managed just once to complete all the test via all the classes, I had no idea what to do nor go where with what?! So those 4 jewels including the last where you have to slay a 3-headed dragon was a surprise. I highly doubt I would've ever found Malkil either and I wonder what would happen if you did join up with him, Have a fair idea though...Out of video game franchises, Wizard & Warriors series deserves a come back because Rare-ware are still kinda around?! And our brave knight Kuros is still floating in the video game sub-space vortex even till now!!! He deserves it more than any other gaming IP to me...The closest thing we have to a new or a remake Wizard & Warriors game is via Game Jolt's Beersy Games Wizards & Warriors 1 but that's more of a remake than anything here...Salute to Kuros our knight...Bring Wizards & Warriors back and finish the tale rather than leaving Kuros in the middle of nowhere!!!! sigh...
the game isn`t that hard. the hardest part aobut this game is figuring out what to do.. nothing is self explanatory :P it is actually a (in a strange way) a decent game. what i like most about it is the music. the gameplay.. well. strange.. very VERY strange :P but . like i sad.. decent and fun XD
***** That last fight with Malkil is kinda hard though. I liked this game but it lacked something that it's predecessor had. Ironsword had a bit more atmosphere and better level design.
+Eener1000 I liked the music in Ironsword better. Not that this music is that terrible, but the music for the wizard class was goofy, the music for the thief class was depressing and the music for the knight class was just the same old shit you've been hearing from the start. Did kind of like the opening theme and final battle. It's times like those that make you wonder... why didn't they reboot the castle exterior theme from W&W 1? This game needed a bigger soundtrack.
The trick to winning the game is all in knowing which character to use when. Excepting a few boss characters, you hardly need to engage in combat at all, as long as you stick to the appropriate character type. And most of the bosses are fairly easy too, if you use the correct character types for them. Even Malkil himself - Knight 3 can block most of his fireballs by just raising his sword at him. The difficulty lies mainly in knowing where to go and what to do. But back in 1990 we were much more patient when figuring out cryptic games. xD
14:43 LOL This always makes me laugh. I don't know why this game gets so much hate. It's different and innovative for its time. In my opinion it's nowhere near as good as the first Wizards and Warriors game, but is a step up from the second one.
It's funny how every good idea this game had was so poorly executed. It had an open world, but garish design. It had multiple classes, but did nothing interesting with them. It had a longer quest, but no password system. It failed at everything Ironsword did so well, with the half exception of the music, which had great moments but also failed to live up to its predecessor. This one probably needed a bigger budget and SNES horsepower to accomplish what they set out to do here. What a bizarre let down of a game.
Good points, The layout could have been better as well. Consider starting the game with the hero beginning his perilous journey to the city, perhaps starting in the forest after he gets his first sword. I would have positioned the aforementioned forest to the left of the main town area, and Castle/Upper class district to the right. Too much reliance on NCP prejudice, its an interesting concept, but using citizens as enemies the way they did really doesn't seem to fit... Where are all the goblins and such? The evil wizard DID take over the city and cast his dark shadow over it didn't he? A Wizards and Warriors reboot, using ideas from all 3 games could actually be pretty good...
And I wish they continued on with these wizards and warriors games like Zelda ocarina of time majoras mask and twilight princess, They would have been so interesting to make 3d adventure world wizard and warriors games!
It took me months to finish this game. Looking at this playthrough makes me feel like I was a stupid kid, but I never gave up and finally got to the last boss and actually picked the answer that puts you in chains 😃 That was a valuable lesson learned that day. Thanx for putting up this awesome playthrough 😃
That's how all of his videos make me feel. I watched him get through Battle of Olympus and Rad Gravity without dying in just over an hour, and I could never make it a 3rd of the way through after playing for months at a time
Manchester-based Zippo Games and Twycross-based Rare needed to add passwords, but both companies did not add passwords. For the lack of passwords, NES users could not complete the game, as it is long. Walkthrough from JagOfTroy overtakes an hour and a half.
The ending for this game almost makes Malkil the HERO! Think about it: 3 princesses of various places made Kuros promise them his family jewels just to get 3 of the 4 crown jewels back! Malkil SAVED both the kingdom AND Kuros' neck by flinging him into the far future away from all those marriage promises! (He would have had to break at least 2 of them, no matter what!)
serious question, why he is he killing the town people at beginning when they arent hostile? is there a benefit? I tried and never got money, etc and they dont harm you
There was one thing that just seemed missing from this game... I can't quite put my finger on it... Oh yeah: enemies to fight. Anyway, thanks for the upload!
I played this as a kid and could not read English. That game was so confusing. Remember wondering about the strange architecture of this town even back then
I had this game and played it for awhile, but I didn't care for it as much as I did the original Wizards and Warriors. I was interested in the fact that you could turn in to a thief and a wizard though; although, I didn't understand what use they were.
+MrTimtonic Speaking of which - good item to add to a reboot to this game's shop: "Warrior Condoms: For The Ladies Man!" Shit, with three women who want to fuck him, he's gonna need it when he gets back from the future :P
He says you are pethatic, then he blasts you and makes you his slave.... It's game over. it ends... you just played more then an hour and all your work is for nothing.
Even though it's understood once you get a new power, you lose the old one because it isn't really needed anymore, I still think this game could have been totally ahead of it's time if it had allowed you to access all nine class powers at your choice. Don't want to give up the throwing axe or fireballs, you can just switch back and forth as you desire, not get pushed ahead by game narrative.
You can switch back, at least on the european version, I remember doing it as a kid. I think you just press left and right on the screen where you switch classes.
My fav is the cast is the exact same character sprites with diff color palettes😂😂 when we were little thry were very distinguished from just that minor tweek. Game is 1 that earns its price tag, did much for such an early title.
Seeing you fire diagonally as rapidly as you are against the final boss by pressing the diagonal button repeatedly doesn't seem consistent at all with a regular NES game controller. I'm suspecting you're either using an emulator or some other form of controls. Am I correct?
The first game at least had some good things about it. The second... was kind of a mess. Then we have this wreck. I used to joke that their slogan should be "If it's a good game, you know it's Rare."
I had no idea there is a WW3. This looks like a really good game. I've been collecting Nintendo stuff since about 2004 & I've never run across this one. Is this one a really rare game? Just finished checking Ebay and found nothing. I've never seen it at any of the retro stores around here either. I have the first 2 and I see those all the time on Ebay and at retro stores for like $10-$15.
can someone explain me the ending? im completely lost. Why the narrator doesn`t say anything about Kuros being caught in the portal and those dates flying around? :S
Miss playing this with my dad as a kid. It was awesome when we finally beat it. Getting this and Solar Jetman back for a trip through memory lane. Two of his favorites. RIP Love you and miss you dad...

this one looks much cheaper than 1 and 2

Haven't played 1 and 2. Thanks for the info, now i have to check them out. 😁
The whole Wizards and Warriors series had a lot of style.
It was the cheat run but Is fine to know what Will do with a seter without value....
Wish Wizards And Warriors turned out like later on Zelda Games!
My favorite game from the early 90s. Remember when it came out. It was a family game we played as a kid im the only one to make it to the end but lost. Miss this so much. Such a masterpiece indeed. Now Imagine a 4th game, similar to Symphony of the Night, MetroidVania style! :D
It looks like it was designed by an 8 years old kid lol
and then Kuros, the greatest warrior of all, became Solar Jetman. The End.
+nobuyukinyuu As we wait for the very day Kuros one day makes a return... and if he dose, it'll be awesome.
now that you mention it, this game uses a very similar UI/font, similar music and even reuses assets from Solar Jetman
So, Kuros killed a dude, shrunk him, and picked him up as a trophy?
I guess jumping into a time portal is one way to avoid being forced into marrying princesses just because you rescued them. It would be really awkward to show up as the groom at three weddings, especially of sisters. I'm sure even "Good King James" might object to all three of his daughters marrying Kuros.
I'm not gonna kinkshame the kings daughters XD
if you're Chirstian it says you can take the wife of your slain opponent as your own. The Bible has no issue with polygamy. Read it carefully.
Kids now days will never understand just how hard this damn game was...
This game I could pass, but battle toads was insane
This game was mostly made by the Pickford Bros as was Ironsword. Apparantly development for this got stopped just before it being finished for one reason or other and one of the other programmers working on it finished it on his own in his spare time. To me it always felt like it wasn't as fleshed as it could be and what I said above might the reason why. I love all the W&W games though.
End boss makes me think of the King from Burger King tripping balls and getting violent lol
+Billy Castillo "Kuros! Thou did not like thy whopper? Not even thy chicken sandwich or rodeo cheeseburger? Well fuck you!"
I remember when I payed some gold for gossip in the inn, the inn keeper told me to give up the quest.
It's for what was suppose to be the next sequel to the game.
He time travels to the future where you do battle with the main villain but it was never made. =/

Five and a half minutes in and the intro is still going. Good lord.
Wait until the trippy end and how long it goes on for!
This game is my childhood.
Mine was W&W(1987). I have the first two. I was 11 when the 3rd released. I started smoking pot around that time and kinda got out of gaming for about a decade. I mean I still played but not like I did in the 80’s and like I do now. Nothing beats the first one. This one looks ok but the other two have badass musical scores. Nostalgia
The ending of this game makes me think of the first episode of Samurai Jack.
Just beat it for the first time tonight! Thank you for the run. Tough game.
The music alone is already awesome.
Sounds similar to battletoads but then again go figure it's made by rare as well.
I learned English with this game! Never managed to finish it back in the day, but I remembered it and thanks to you I got to see the ending!
Bought it this week in mint condition with manual and game like new.I loved playing it back in 1993
Its a shame my story wasn't finished as we speak the last time I fought Melkil as he sent me back in the year 2191.
"I'm banishing you to a time warp, from which you will never return."
you mean FORWARD to the year 2191 .... They were gonna make a 4th game called: Laser Sword but never did. :/
I guess rare Entertainment cancelled out the whole franchise...
There is a Wizard & Warriors 1 remake via Beersy Games on Game Jolt but that's it sadly...

In my opinion this is not crappy game. Maybe the best in the series.

Forget explaining Kuros' going through time, I want to know how the hell Piedup worked as a city with almost no stairs or ladders.
The barkeeps throw everyone everywhere they need to go.
"magic"
its like corpse wrap around in a bed sheet jumping around
The old times 🥺🥺 i loved it sooo much ❤
Uno de los mejores juegos de mi infancia, y la música excelente
I always hated how the ending teased the "final confrontation" between Kuros and Malkil in the future, but the game to show it never happened.
This is my all time favourite Nintendo Game I feel like a 7 year old again 😆

This game has one of the most hostile towns I've seen in a game. Every person and their dog (literally) is trying to kill you.
only if you're a knight or a wizard. a 'sir' or a thief has no trouble.
You've never visited Harlow have you
Reminds me when link in Zelda 2 would visit a town and he talked to someone that was apparently a undercover monster and turned into a bat!
10:25 the player stops in awe at how bad this model is
When you take longplays seriously.
Probably took a brief break to do something IRL.
@@-RAYZ- when you take a comment on the internet seriously.

Actually, when selecting a guild, pressing select will actually make you scroll through the ranks!
It's funny that you say they put Kuros in SMB3 because of the developers said they got inspiration from SMB3.
Damn I miss me some NES Soundtracks.

Rumor has it Kojima was got his inspiration from this game.
No wonder evil Malkil rules supreme if the population prefers filthy thieves to righteous wizards.
This game infuriated me to no end as a kid, but I kept picking it up and playing for hours. One of the reason I took up swearing at a young age

How in the world did you manage to win this? I can't get past the first Thieves guild without going crazy. *bows down to the game master*

It's too bad this game was made by Rare and we will never see a continuation of the story or any remakes.
Nathan Robinson I can't believe they never made a game for SNES!
They should have done one of these for snes
And I wish they continued on with these wizards and warriors games like Zelda ocarina of time majoras mask and twilight princess,
They would have been so interesting to make 3d adventure world wizard and warriors games!
Excellent series of games, about the third part did not even know. It is a pity there is no continuation.
I love the cast call. I think they had larger plans for this game to be more RPG - esq but they were rushed.
It took me months to finish this game.
Looking at this playthrough makes me feel like I was a stupid kid, but I never gave up and finally got to the last boss and actually picked the answer that puts you in chains 😃
That was a valuable lesson learned that day.
Thanx for putting up this awesome playthrough 😃
That's how all of his videos make me feel. I watched him get through Battle of Olympus and Rad Gravity without dying in just over an hour, and I could never make it a 3rd of the way through after playing for months at a time
Never got to play the 3rd game in the series. I did however play 1&2 on Nes 😀
Manchester-based Zippo Games and Twycross-based Rare needed to add passwords, but both companies did not add passwords. For the lack of passwords, NES users could not complete the game, as it is long. Walkthrough from JagOfTroy overtakes an hour and a half.
I never knew there was a third installment.
This is one of those games that are way more fun to watch than actually play.
Someday this will be played in museums for sure
serious question, why he is he killing the town people at beginning when they arent hostile? is there a benefit? I tried and never got money, etc and they dont harm you
thanks it was very usefull this game sure can be tricky to wander around
I don’t remember the third one of these. I think the first was the best overall. So much good music in all of them
There was one thing that just seemed missing from this game... I can't quite put my finger on it...
Oh yeah: enemies to fight.
Anyway, thanks for the upload!
Its funny because I'm seeing enemies he is fighting and killing for special abilities I don't know what video you was watching
Again. The strongest person in the land isn't Malkil or Kuros. It's the innkeeper.
wow so any time u get hit you have totally stop moving and fall over? why'd they make it like that it kills the flow the other games had?
Not bad! i was only familiar with the first 2 wizards and warriors games not this one the graphics look much better in this part game
Malkil's divebombs are hilarious
I played this as a kid and could not read English. That game was so confusing. Remember wondering about the strange architecture of this town even back then
I had this game and played it for awhile, but I didn't care for it as much as I did the original Wizards and Warriors. I was interested in the fact that you could turn in to a thief and a wizard though; although, I didn't understand what use they were.
Oh what a great soundtrack!
Glam Rock nothing compared to the second ones soundtrack.
And Kuros Meets Jack...
I wouldn't mind spending a few evenings in The Naughty Damsel..
+MrTimtonic Speaking of which - good item to add to a reboot to this game's shop: "Warrior Condoms: For The Ladies Man!" Shit, with three women who want to fuck him, he's gonna need it when he gets back from the future :P
+John Rosen Haha! Perhaps 3 kinds of condoms for the knight, wizard, or thief who's feeling hot to trot..
The thief's condom would HAVE to be something extra special and secure... cause thieves love nothing more than ... "sneaking in". :P
Wizards and Warriors is the Dark Souls of today
Keeper of the naughty damsel? Oh ho ho ho!
The best game in the series
Damn, Kuros lost a lot of weight in this one. Is he ok?
Some kind of map would of been nice! Bad hit detection too.
So, When Kuros Defeats Malkil, Kuros Enters a Time Portal
I'd be curious to see what happens if you do agree to join Malkil...
He says you are pethatic, then he blasts you and makes you his slave.... It's game over. it ends... you just played more then an hour and all your work is for nothing.
So does this mean that Kuros was the first keyblade weilder?
Kuros is a badass. he breaks into homes, steals their stuff, then murders the townspeople.
Yeah, Ironsword was pretty great, definitely the most polished and fun. I still fire up my cart every now and then for some nostalgia.
1:45 I'M MR. MEESEEKS LOOK AT ME!!!
There was a Wizards and Warriors 3?!
Wow this was legendary! 😀👍🌷
never played w&w3 just the first...this game looked really really graphic wice nice ala 8bit:)
Proveo sam sate i sate igrajuci ovu igricu, vraca me u detinjstvo nintendo je najbolji :D
*☼ solid man* madcaps.
Me: "With such a simple color swap, how do the wives keep from sleeping with the wrong establishment owner?"
Wife: *smoking a 🚬* "We don't. 😉"
Regarding the first two games, boxed with the manuals or cartridges only?
1 and 2 are great. Don’t waste your time with this, it plays like absolute dogshit
What happens if you say yes?
He kills you and the game is over. Worst role playing game ever.
*☼ very bouncy game, isnt it?*
Strangest sequel to Wizards & Warriors ever.
can someone explain me the ending? im completely lost. Why the narrator doesn`t say anything about Kuros being caught in the portal and those dates flying around? :S
Kuros became a Time Traveler.
Also no one gonna say the finale is taken from dragon quest 1. Replace malkil.with dragonlord and boom. I'm dq1 the same thing happens
Great game. Hard as balls (as are most NES games by Rare), but totally underrated.
These were actually on the easier side for NES era games.
