I teach zoom yoga classes - MUTE everyone! There is always someone who thinks they are muted and decides to take a loud and embarrassing phone call or yell at their kids. It’s not hard. (Can’t help those who don’t turn off their camera and decide to get undressed half way through - yes, it’s happened 😅.)
Snap for my pilates zoom - although for me it's cats coming in demanding attention - although personally I'm just not wanting anyone to hear gas release on the downward dog!

I think “this business allows for seasons” is code for “this business allows for sometimes making some money and sometimes not making any money.”
I’ve also noticed it’s a big tell that someone is Evangelical (I.e., “the enemy”). Any struggle is “a bad season”, even though they don’t always realize how long seasons are supposed to be on the calendar

This video made me realize just how sick and tired some of these reps must be of telling “their story” over and over and over again. They have no emotion in this and it’s probably because they’ve told it so many times it’s lost it’s luster. Not to mention it’s a lie. “Here we go, another zoom call where I tell a story about how I did this to change my life and it ended up being a lie but now I’m stuck here and have to keep up this facade so I can hopefully get one person signed up so I can buy milk this week.”

I call BS on teenage boys asking for oils! I helped raise teenage boys and they do not care about stuff like that!
I agree having raised teenagers myself and thought she is truly an idiot if she believes these kids are asking for these oils for innocent reasons. Come on lady, they are asking for the oils to add their own " ingredients " and sell to their friends as a front. They are either telling their friends this stuff will get you high and the psychosomatic effect kicks in or they do add God knows what and the label looks legit to cover.
Sorry my brain went there, I was a nurse for 18 yrs, married to a retired LEO so we saw it all.
I listened to this on my hour drive home and I just pulled into the driveway and said "OMG I don't remember a single thing this young living lady said..."
I think their constant tech issues, and lack of capacity to mute people on their calls is part of their fake relatability.

When you referred to yourself as a girl at first, I felt that in every single inch of my aching 31 year old skeleton. It’s a weird disconnect that I cannot seem to get past. In my mind, I’m a fresh 24. Physically I’m 50 stuck in a 31. I’ll refer to myself as a girl all day on accident before I’ll ever think to call myself a woman

I was part of BB for over 7 years and all our learning calls were like this.
I learned nothing about on how to properly sell or what to do. Just kept hearing toxic positivity about how you just have to work harder and then just heard a lot of personal life stories. Always about sharing your story but not enough about what the product is or why.

My son was diagnosed at birth with a genetic condition (he is now 10 months old) and while we are still figuring everything out, we do know that he is immuno compromised and has heart defects. We have been to the hospital multiple times, unexpectedly.
I can only speak for myself here when saying this but I live in Canada and I’m on mat leave, when I return to my 9-5 I have benefits that include paid time off, and should I need an extended period of time off I can go through the government and be guaranteed pay. This means that should we ever end up in the hospital that I’m not having to worry about getting paid or working while in the hospital whether it’s long term or not.
I understand the privilege I have in saying all this however this is to say that MLM’s paint a nasty picture as if they are the only business where you are able to disconnect this way and not worry about getting paid. The thing they don’t tell you and Chelsea mentioned was that while you can drop everything to be in the hospital, you are expected to work/post/connect because if you don’t… then how are you going to get paid.
I feel terrible for her son as she is giving him no privacy to his own story as she is using it as a gateway to sell the opportunity/products. Disgusting.
"I changed this out and switched this part of my life and now eight years later cannot tell you what that has meant to us" she's right, she can't tell you anything. She has said nothing of substance.

As a teacher that did zoom meetings with other teachers only one never muted immediately and I always wondered if it was passive aggressiveness and not an accident.

I was with doTerra for a few years. I never sold it but I had the "membership" for the discount. I learned so much just based off of what was sent to me by the company and the book I bought. I cannot imagine being an "employee" for SIX YEARS, an actual SALESPERSON and have zero clue about the products my company sells. That is mind boggling. How the hell does she even sell them? Nevermind. I know how. She tells "her story" of "My son had IBS and I give him this product and it cured him...." When the FTC came down on the MLMs a few years ago about making the medical claims, my upline and doTerra told us religiously NOT to make those claims. It was always the YL huns though doing it. I know dT is just as bad and I'm done now, but YL huns are always bad. Culty and just...off the wall.

Do people not understand the placebo effect? You can hand your kids a vitamin and tell them it's going to make them feel better and sometimes it works.
Drives me bonkers when there is *such* repetition in the spiel people give in these kinds of calls. But the leaders constantly repeat their MLM origin story because that is the common ground between them and their downline -- they all have a recruitment story. By repeating it over and over it becomes something sacred as if it's a conversion story and a testimony to share. "Sharing my story" is just describing what your situation was, what made you susceptible to recruitment, followed by vague empowerment phrases that any of them on the call could relate to.
Thank you for mentioning about them not muting people. It really is so unprofessional... you can set up the Zoom call so that it auto-mutes everyone when they join the call. It's not hard.

I have a friend who worked for Young Living Corporate. Oh the things she told me about the founder and his criminal record, his involvement in other countries, he was on a website “Quackwatch” at some point. He claimed his wife got pregnant and had kids in her 50’s bc of oils but everyone who worked with him knew it was hormones and IVF. It’s nuts what all this guy has done and how many people he has hurt. Apparently he gets injections of Frankincense into his back monthly which sounds dangerous as hell.
As someone who really loves my essential oils. I make my own body scrubs and massage oils and lots of stuff like that. I really hate companies like young living and dotera. They are way over priced and they prey on people looking for that cure, preying on the fanacially struggling, preying on the lonely. It's very disgusting.
Also if you want good oils for a fraction of the cost and none of the cult you can always get them at any natural health store.

As a former born again Christian, this opportunity call sounded like the reps were witnessing. It’s almost like YL is considering itself a religion instead of a business.
I get the same feeling. Its like everyone goes around sharing their testimony. "I used to be a bad place, then MLM found me and saved me. If you just buy this starter kit and dedicate your life to MLM, you can be saved too."

Lmao I had a YL rep recommend essential oils for my husband's allergies. No, Bethany, my husband is literally allergic to your oils they're not going to 'cure his allergies'.
So as someone who is an artist and majored in music, I have NEVER met someone come off as a so generic as the first lady. It’s kind of weird too, because part of people likening your art is also kind of liking you and therefor being able to relate to art. I find a lot of people I know in music and art have very big personalities (not always loud).

I feel like one simple thing they can do to make this a 'training' call is train viewers how to behave in Zoom. As in, mute yourself. Or, here is where you can set the default option so that all users in Zoom are muted. Boom, one small lesson that is way more functional than their stories!

A regular job will give you paid time off for family leave if your child is in the nicu or gets hospitalized for anything… they’re so irritating.
My son was in the nicu for a month right after he was born and my significant other got paid time off so someone could be home with our 5yr old daughter while I was in the nicu with our son.. a whole month and he still got a paycheck every Friday.
Watching the few women whose cameras are on is hilarious. They all seem SO over it and checked out. Not one smile or nod, they are just waiting for this call to be over.
One of the principals at my school calls high school students "kiddos," and it drives me up a wall.

Enneagram 4 self preservation. I'm a weird type of 4 that doesn't fit the "standard" description but I really enjoy how Beatrice Chestnut conceptualizes Enneagram subtypes. The "standard" 4 is very dominated by negative emotion, often moody etc. I'm very tuned into my negative emotions, so I fit that part, but I'm also genuinely happy most of the time. I don't intentionally hide my negative emotions, but I have to feel very safe with you before I'll let you see any of the negative stuff.
Anyway, I'm a huge personality type nerd in case you couldn't tell.

Anyway, it surprised me at the time how she shot to the highest rank almost immediately after signing up with this crew. I had also joined YL and was having a dismal time of it. Do you think they are allowed to stick people with high profiles (as JG had) right at the top? It just seemed to me that a lot of these influencers had instant success with Young Living and it always seemed sus. Thankfully I have since moved on from this world!

"Get to know your products " = spend a lot of money buying products and making your upline's paycheck bigger. But we'll get you to think of it as "investing in your business" so you won't feel bad about spending more money than you're making.
She keeps saying it helped her on "Her" health journey, but never mentions her health issues, but is sure to point out all the children's issues and how they affect her. Like the oils are there to fix these annoying kids that are interrupting her life.
Sick of hearing about enneagrams-learned in undergrad that all of those “personality” quizzes are a form of pseudoscience. Psychologists do not recognize them as valid or reliable measures or testing, and a lot of people, especially Christian women, seem to be using their enneagram number to justify or explain their maladaptive behavioral patterns, as well as it forces people into boxes. You can be ambitious AND service oriented AND friendly. I have general anxiety disorder and panic disorder, and it’s stupid and incorrect to attribute an imbalance of chemicals in my brain and my life trauma to be my personality (apparently I’m a 6). Personality actually changes throughout your lifespan, it’s your temperament that you’re born with. If you’re burning yourself out serving others because it’s your “personality 2,” please for the love of God go to therapy. We’re all human, and we all have things to work on and we’re very capable of changing our toxic or maladaptive patterns, and the enneagram doesn’t leave space for that!
In terms of categorizing personality, psychologists use the Big Five personality traits and each trait is a spectrum. Some people score higher in agreeableness or open mindedness more than others but it’s all a spectrum! Humans are too complex and u iq
