I remember the first time I labeled this type of activity as "weaponizing hope." I was standing in my backyard, and it was 2004. It's when businesses bank on people believing they will beat the odds or be better off in a year than they are today. Like, those ads that say "pay now, no payments for 12 months." Well, if you can't afford the payment today, why on earth do you think you can afford it in a year? Well, that's "weaponizing hope," and I despise it. Hope is supposed to be a good thing...it's the thing that can get you through rough times. But when hope is manipulated, it becomes a liability rather than an asset. That's the same thing these MLMs do. They convince people that they are special and will be the ones to beat the odds. Everyone can't beat the odds, and we know the majority will not.

In jobs with pensions, "retiring" means something very specific. E.g. separating vs retiring from the miltary. The hun in this video is using the phrase "retire my husband," which is very common in the huniverse. The FIRE world uses the phrase the same way - no longer need their income, become a SAHH/SAHW. The problem here is that (1) he is in a job with a pension, so the word "retire" has an implied level of meaning which is not true here and (2) the financials were not, based on the timing, the primary rationale.

It’s so insidious the number of preacher wives in MLMs (particularly higher up). Their place in that community is that of a trusted, moral authority figure. You trust these people to give you information on how to live your life, on how to look at/interpret God, how to make decisions based on that. How to literally live your life to get into heaven.
These people (a lot of the time), know the vulnerabilities of these church goers. They have an immediate downline of followers who don’t need their trust reinforced, they already have it in the most intimate area of ones life. People are literally persuaded to outcast “sinners” and non-believers by these authority figures (in certain circumstances), so why would they not trust them in this sense?
Also, the gendered roles these people possess, makes it a gateway for stay-at-home mothers needing or wanting more. The idea that this is okay is quite sickening. I think it speaks volumes that the access these women have to potential recruits within their community position and exploit that to it fullest potential. While we have no evidence that they have recruited church members, I think it would be nice to know if there is that kind of boundary. There does seem to be a lot of preacher wives in MLMs and also in higher positions, it’s not uncommon. I would like there to be some rule that no financial gain can be made from church members but that kind of defeats the purpose…
It’s just the strongest form of faith manipulation. Faith in the church alongside the MLM. If these women recruit other church women, they already have shared views on life. They are their target audience but also a lot of people would feel like “God” is calling them into this through them, that to fail them would be to let down an important leader of not only their “business”, but community. They have their information already, heck they might have had things like marriage counselling from the pastor! Through being their up line, they have intertwined themselves in almost every aspect of these people’s lives, so to leave the MLM could mean losing friends, family and your church.
Even if not explicitly, leaving would definitely leave some tension and guilt/shame. Could letting down the preacher’s family financially be letting God down? Could straining your relationship with them and upsetting their finances be straining your relationship with God and being uncharitable? What happens if the wife changes MLMs or stops? You might have to follow as there might be a communal divide from MLM 1 and MLM 2. There are so many ways in which this can go wrong and it’s deeply concerning.
Also, I am so happy that people who are supposed to be “saving lives” are showing their true colours. Good riddance. “Retiring” in the long run is much better than fostering a workplace of science deniers who also should rely on science and ethical standards.

I love how they think this is appealing 😅 "you will hear a lot of bad stuff....just ignore it!" "I made sacrifices for this by learning to order food." "You got a job and are finally paying off!" Oh man sign me up!

Ladies, you are worth so much more than Monat will give you, and you deserve an equal partner in all things.

I feel like it's a very american thing to think that dreams and aspirations are more important then statistics. It's the whole "if you believe in yourself enough, you can achieve anything you want against all odds" thing.

Just by the body language of the first couple you can guess they are not close or feel as a team, she is very closed off with arms crossed, he is turned away with his arm often “blocking” his space from hers, almost facing away from her. It’s speculation of course, but they don’t make an impression of a happy couple.

I agree. Their faces are blurred, but as soon as he started talking she closed off. Everything that came out of his mouth had me 🤢. Gross.

I’m a small business owner (like, a real one, not an mlm 🤣) and I actually think the second husband is inadvertently making some points that are worth considering. When you are keeping track of your profits/losses, it’s a good idea to factor in the ancillary costs as well. My business began to take off, so we hired a cleaning service, we increased our food budget because I was cooking less, I started adding to my wardrobe for client meetings after having been a SAHM for many years. As I was taking stock of my finances every week, I took those expenses into consideration as well. The Huns don’t seem to consider these things-along with the most basic direct expenses of their MLMs. That husband who quit his job as a firefighter? Totally his choice, but they walked away from significant benefits so he could be supported by her scammy mlm. I hope they are socking away a lot of cash, because monat is going to tank and they’re going to be HURTING.

I just love how they go "we'll let our husbands speak", and proceed to give a long backstory of themselves.
Also with the first couple, his wife was socially isolated?
The way that he framed doing Monat as female empowerment is gross. A husband also has a responsibility to look out for their wives, not just blindly support. Especially when it comes to -scams- "high risk investments". And if things don't work out, it's on both parties, because you know, the team thing.
He's right about about "spending a couple hundred bucks to be a potential millionaire", the keyword is *POTENTIAL* .

Also the men did _not_ offer a different perspective, they were just parroting, or "paraphrasing" their wives

I LOVE the point you made that if there were so many successful people, they would have more people sharing their experience than the same people over and over. If that isn't a red flag, I don't know what is!

      🎯 🎯 🎯
If "anyone" can be successful in "this business," then they should have an endless supply of success stories to share! Why do they keep recycling the same few people? Oh... right. Because nobody else gets to the top. 🤦‍♀️
