    Whoops, looks like you can set the GPU PL to 175 watts manually. It does help, but performance isn't anything like Windows and it seems to throttle to ~130-150w after a few minutes in game.

    • @darginmahkum3190
      @darginmahkum3190 Год назад +10

      You need razer laptop control from github to set the correct thermal profile. Then it will have the same performance as Windows. I don't understand why my comments keep disappearing.

    • @darginmahkum3190
      @darginmahkum3190 Год назад +4

      By the way, better install the no dkms version which is newer and does not need a kernel module. Then you have to add the ID of your model in the config file.

    • @aka_bw
      @aka_bw  Год назад +6

      Oh, thanks! I've been looking for something that can control the lid logo, as well. Anyway, setting the power profile to "gaming" does seem to work (the fans start immediately), but I'm still not really able to break 100fps in Control at 1440p with the settings @JarrodsTech used in this review of the Blade 18: ruclips.net/video/c2cgs-w0Q9M/видео.html

    • @darginmahkum3190
      @darginmahkum3190 Год назад +4

      @@aka_bw you can set custom mode, then CPU boost and GPU high. If you are using Proton or Proton-GE, I guess around 15-20% performance loss can be expected. I heard some games have better Linux performance but some loss is inevitable, I guess. I should check the Control some day. I still didn't play it. :)

    • @darginmahkum3190
      @darginmahkum3190 Год назад +4

      @@aka_bw by the way. The CPU is unlocked. So you can undervolt with intel-undervolt. I am not sure if it works with the 13th gen but -100mV for core and cache should help with the performance further.

    Appreciated the honest and straight forward review. I'm 35 and like to game, but don't want to bring a big gaming rig to my work because it looks silly. Was thinking this laptop was the one, but that fan noise is too much maybe. Gaming on Mac is a joke as well, so I don't know what Windows laptop would be quieter and look more professional.
    Would love to see your honest review on the Razer 18 or another laptop, I enjoyed your style

    Never have seen any videos of yours. Very relaxing. Straight to the point and really genuine. Great job. I’d rather watch this kind of video as opposed to over theatrical reviews. I have the same machine and noticed you said you didn’t like synapse. What is your experience with it and will it be as quiet without it? I have also noticed that when I switch the screen to Nvidia mode it’s brighter but has a yellow tint to it. Did you have this issue? It just doesn’t seem as bright as it’s supposed to be. Thanks a lot.

    Regarding the end, there should be a Blade 14 with a Zen4 CPU coming later on, though I doubt it will have the 4090 unless they also make the Blade 14 thicker or really reduce its TGP.

    I had a ryzen Blade 14 with 3070 for about a year and sold it. I agree it was just too much compromise. Dock it and it is too loud. Playing without external screen is too small. Keyboards are way too hot. As a laptop the battery life is terrible. If you have that kind of money to spend. Spend half on a desktop and the other half on an ultrabook that makes the most sense to me.

    My question. I want to buy a laptop for work, unfortunately a laptop - I will not travel to the company with the desktop. I occasionally play, but rather in demanding titles. I wanted to take a blade with 4090 - but I'm terrified of the noise level it can have. As a result, I rather decided on the 4070. Razer Blade 16 with rtx 4070 seems to be a good choice. I will be working under Linux because the applications at which I write code die under windows. I will do a dual boot to windows. On the other hand I am facing the final choice whether QHD or MiniLed. I don't know which will be better - it would be different if I worked and used only under windows. But is everything REALLY OK using miniled under linux. Unfortunately the blade 16 with 4070 can also go with miniled - so they gave me another choice that I have to THINK about :(

    Hello! I really need you help choosing a laptop. I came a cross two razer blades that I’m torn between. One is a Blade 15 advanced with: 4K OLED Touch Intel core i9-11900H 16Cpus up 4.9Ghz 32Go ram ddr4
    1to Ssd Nvme Nvidia Rtx 3080 16Go Vram. The other is 2023 Blade 16 rtx 4060 and mini LED with the double refresh feature.
    I don’t know which screen is better. Or how frame rates will behave in recent games like: RE4 and Cyberpunk. They both are 100$ apart with the blade 15 being the cheaper option. Seriously, I would really appreciate your professional opinion

    • @aka_bw
      @aka_bw  Год назад

      Yes. I'm using nvidia-dkms in arch with the usual setup (disable nouveau, nvidia-drm.modeset=1). The only new thing to me was that the driver will not load without adding ibt=off to the kernel commandline. The new open-source nvidia kernel modules also seem to work, but don't support power management.

    • @aka_bw
      @aka_bw  Год назад

      Sort of. The headphone jack and built-in mic work, speakers do not. Someone will have to sniff the Windows driver to see how it sets up the amps and stuff. One thing to be aware of, this machine uses Intel SOF to drive some kind of DSP and I bet the Blade 18 is the same. You might want to try installing the SOF firmware if you haven't already (extra/sof-firmware in arch).

    • @smacdonald5090
      @smacdonald5090 Год назад

      @@aka_bw Thanks for that. I went down the SOF route in Fedora, Ubuntu and Pop and didn't yield any results sadly. I was hoping someone might of found a fix. I am also willing to bet the 16 and 18 sit on top the same chipset platform.
