This kind of football culture restricts many of the kids to enjoy football itself and be afraid of making new creative plays. When you're young, winning is important, but you would really rather focus on basics and growth. Son's dad knew this, so made an "unorthodox" choice. It wasn't just for the sake of being unorthodox, but there was a reason behind it. Excellent clip, but just wanted to add this because I felt like you focused on Son's dad's training to be a little odd and different, but was rather trying to make the best choice from the given situation.

His dad still could have trained him while he was playing games. I think playing the game gives valuable touches on the ball. Obviously both approaches can work since you have many great players who start playing the game at very early ages like Messi, and on the other hand you can just do fundamentals like Son and still become great.
