Julia Martins ;--; ai minha mãe é do tipo de n confiar em compra de internet
The two polychromos pencils are not watercolor. I'm assuming it doesn't make a different with those specific ones, but do you prefer watercolor ( example: albrecht durer by faber castell ) over polychromos/non watercolor?
Can you please do a step by step super basic face up tutorial?
My very first episodes of Faceup Stories have every stage of the process explained in the lower thirds. Is there a specific part that you are unsure about that I haven't covered yet?
+Nicolle's Dreams i saw the video and it was awesome but i was thinking of like super more easier and like super natural for beginner type of face up step by step tutorial
+Nicolle's Dreams with also using just the items you showed on this awesome video
+LuckyBjdS I agree, I would also like to see a video like that
After I saw he show the respirator mask, I kinda got all excited, just imagining her sitting at her desk, making beautiful, intricate dolls, and then she's adding a coat of sealant and someone walks in while she's wearing that respirator mask and then they freak out xD
Haha :P
Lauren Parker I know, I've seen her room tour. She could do that, but I'm guessing she opens a window or something and that it doesn't take a whole lot of sealant for one coat. Multiple coats, yes, but I'd guess by the time she was done with doing the eyes or something, the smell or vapors might have dissipated enough for her to apply another coat in the same room
I love these back to the basic videos, they're very helpful. Thank you!
Massive thanks to everyone who is sending subtitles! If you want to contribute but don't know how to check this video ruclips.net/video/b9cKgwnFIAw/видео.html

I do not get informed who sends the subtitles so let me know that way I can credit you
where to get a sealant? i keep on searching but i havent seen one and i kinda afraid to buy online. where do u usually buy your sealant and what do u replace if u dont have a sealant?
+Kyle Sinadjan depends where you live. Sometimes buying online is the only option. There is nothing that replaces a sealant, you will have to use it if you want the materials to work properly.
thank you so much for the reply :)
+TheKittyCorner you can find the full list of materials in my F.A.Q. in the description
Is there a no toxic alternative to Mr.SUPER CLEAR?
Andreja, you are a lifesaver!! I've been trying to find Mr Super Clear where I live, but its IMPOSSIBLE, and as I live in a place with very strict mail laws, I cant get it from online either. But I KNOW I can get Tamiya Color here, I've seen it MANY times I was just unsure if it could be used.
Thank you so much!
Does it work well? (if you've tried it)
I love you, really help me, in my country México, I don't know anybody makes this type of work, I really appreciate your videos. Thank you so so so much! To much time ago i wanting does this.
I was wondering which three you had; I have different brand of soft pastels but I DO want the three you have... Could you please post the color names ; Schmincke (3) Pink, Peach, Brown? They have numbers instead...
That's exactly what I was looking for, such a great help! Thank you
OMG perfect I have lots and lots of pastels and watercolours because I'm artist, so it's perfect! But I have a couple of questions:
1. What do you do if you are wrong? (for example, my pulse is not very good and when I ink in my drawings, most of the times I do something wrong :/) Does exist anything to erase the mess?
2. Do you use any product at the end? I mean, I didn't understand the process. First you seal the doll, wait for it to dry, and then you paint over. And you add some gloss on the lips, but the rest of the face? It stays forever and ever or you don't have to touch it because if not it will be erased?
That's all, I hope you keep on working (because you are so freaking talented!) and to answer my questions! Thank you so much, lady!
I'm grateful for your video I'm a beginner and I live in Brazil, I do not have these materials. I have to adapt thanks for putting subtitles in Portuguese.
Yay! The only emberassing thing about this hobby is buying the monster hight dollXD
This is super helpful! However, I do have a couple questions. I don't know if face-ups are going to become a consistent hobby for me (I would love if it could be though!), and I already have a lot of art supplies from college that I'd like to put to use now that I'm graduated.
Do you know if Grumbacher Matte Workable Fixative or Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating will be good alternatives to MSC?
Also, is it ok just to get a face mask instead of a respirator so long as I spray outside in an open area? Then once I know if this is something I'll be doing often, I can save up for a respirator :')
Thanks
Thanks so much for this super helpful video! I was trying to guess the Schmincke colors - but I might be off, so could you maybe list the names/numbers?
My guess:
orange: 010 Orange hell D (not sure about this one)
pinkish: 046 Karminrot M or 045 Krapplack M (again not sure which one)
brown: 047 Krapprosa B (no idea? This seems wrong xD)
Help would be greatly appreciated :) !
+Agent Knopf I just realized: You show Polychromos which are oil based and based on what I read, one shouldn't use oil based colors on BJDs? I realized this before trying to work on my doll and got the Faber Castell Watercolor pencils instead.
Thank you so much for this video very useful I can't wait to start!
Hi!! I'm Korean and I love your videos!!! and i'd love to try face up, but the link is to amazon so it's quite hard to get those stuff...
right now i'm comparing them to other online shoppings!! hope I can get all of em!!
I started repainting dolls in January and your videos have boosted my confidence in becoming a pro like you. Thanks so much for all of your amazing tips and ideas! (Also your cat is so cute!)
Finally I can see why your Faber-Castell "water colour" pencils are round and not hexagonal. I've always thought "They look like Polychromos, why is that??" and now I see, ok, they ARE Polychromos. But Polychromos are oil-based and not water colour pencils? I thought they shouldn't be used for faceups? >
Yes, I had the exact same suspicion. Polychromos ARE oilbased. The Albrecht-Dürer are watercolor pencils. I have asked Andreja a few times on instagram but I never got a reply. I am wondering if you can actually use Polychromos as well or if she was just mistaken that they are watercolor.
Zenzika
Well, I used Albrecht-Dürer pencils and didn't get a very good result. Since I have a lot of Polychromos, I tried them on my Monster High dolls (since I only made them for myself) and I liked the great results. So far I haven't seen any side effects, but I guess I wouldn't use them on BJDs, since it's a different material? >
I am really not sure. I get nice result on my Monster High dolls with Albrecht Dürer. It helps when you dip just the tip in water... I just would never dare to use the Polychromos on my BJDs... I am scared to death of stains...
I mean in the end everyone can do whatever they like to their dolls, I just thought about customers, when you actually use Polychromos on face-ups... Maybe someone else knows if they stain on resin or not?!
Zenzika
I now bought the derwent watercolour pencils and with those it works well.
Yeah it would be nice to know if it works with Polychromos or if they stain...
So many times I ask the same question, can I paint dolls with Polychromos if are oil based pencils? Why she said are watercolors? @nicolle's dreams
can you make a catrine faceup? and could I use chalk pastels for faceups?
can you paint the sealer on the face instead of spraying it, like would it have the same effect or mess anything up?
Love your videos! They really help me a lot as a beginner in faceups. :) Could you perhaps do a tutorial on how to draw eyelashes/eyebrows? I really suck at them :(
Do you still use sealant after the complete face up? I learned a lot from your channel. Thank you! ♥️
I will definitely try and customize a doll
Does it matter what brand of watercolor pencil you use?
What about the Liquitex Professional Matte Varnish Spray does it work for doll customizing and do you think you can do a video experimenting on it please? I don't want to have a Life and Death situation with those sprays and i have to wait until i get more money in order to buy the airbrush (Plus what kind of Airbrush do you use?)
Do you have any recommendation as to what respirator to get? Btw Thank you for this video❤
Which ones can one use still of the gloss varnish.
sorry for my English. I can't English.
Me encantan tus videos...felicidades por tú talento! mi sugerencia; subtitulos en español porfavor. .. saludos desde Chihuahua
polychromos pencils are wax/oil based pencils, won't they upset the resin?
Which specific colors did she show in the pastels? I've trying to figure it out...
Could you please write down the name of the last things you use over the doll when you finish painting them? Please, please? 😍
nice tips! but as someone who as no clue about faceups; what kind of pastells are suited for faceups, soft pastell or the oil-based ones? and you say/link watercolor pencils, but the polychromos you show in the video are oil-based as well.
so i'm a little confused :,)
I know it's been 7 months but in case somebody is wondering, you should use soft pastels and water based pencils 😃
Cool vid amazing art stuff to
Hello. Can I ask where can I get that paint sealer?...I'm from Czech republic and I'm only 15 years Old...so is there something not so expensive that I can get here? Also I'm very sorry for my bad english and thank you so much for your help
what the three schmicke color number is? Can you tell me? I really want to known.can you tell me💗💗
I've been thinking about starting with ripoff MH dolls from dollar stores to practice, so I can get multiple and not worry about messing up.
Don't forget that the faceups are removable, so you can keep repainting the same doll over and over again and not need to have many dolls. That is what I did at least since I don't like supporting bootlegs :)
I love this hopefully I can get some supplies today so I can finally transform my barbie doll I have. also the same thing goes for the mask if their is a non toxic brand, cuz I know I have one but I do think where it went. also where do you buy the doll clothing?
thank you for your great videos! could you pls make a video on how to remove doll's heads? i am soon ready to make my first repaint and rerooting hair on a disney animator doll (1. edition). i want to make sure i do not wreck head and body by doing so :) and maybe make a video on how to fix a nose on a doll who has lost the tip of the nose (i have a barbie that lost the tip ;/ thank you so much!
Thank you for making this video! It was very helpful!
i cant buy mr. super clear cuz they dont ship to Denmark... errr do u have any sealent u recommend instead?... same with gloss varnish those 2 brands dont ship either... also the nail polish remover what do u recommend?^^
So far this is the only video I know of that mentions the Tamiya Color Clear Lacquer Spray that you showed for a sealant - I was wondering about any opinions on it? I'm just about good to go on my materials, I just need a sealant and I'm debating between Mr. Super Clear and the Tamiya Color Clear Lacquer Spray. MSC is like $24 on Amazon, but Tamiya is about $10. I'm still testing the waters with repainting dolls, so if Tamiya is a cheaper but still good option, I'd love to know opinions of it. Otherwise, I'm probably gonna go for MSC :{
eu não sei se você vai responder , mas qual o nome do curso ou faculdade para aprender a fazer isso ?
what is the cost of all of it together? thanks!
I LOVE you edit on Your videos it looks so natural or calling. sorry if that sounds a little weird
I have also had problems finding mr super clear, the sealant I have found in the uk is called americana which is also an acrylic matte sealer/finisher spray, I also can't find schminck pastels so I have purchased the best quality ones the art shop stocked, I have derwent and faber castel pencils to use and have a few mh dolls to begin with, I have tried so many times to remove the factory paint with cotton balls and acetone but it smears the paint, I found that using cotton buds (q-tips) was easier but I have a question about the removal of smeared paint and the black staining that the paint leaves, do I just continue to use acetone and cotton wool to rub this away? it doesn't seem to be coming off, what is the best way to remove factory paint? do I just hold the pad on the eye, do I rub it off or do I gather it up into blobs the scoop it up? is it normal to take a long time removing the paint, in videos people seem to remove the paint really easily and cleanly in a few wipes! This is a brilliant back to basics video, will you be doing a wig making tutorial soon? also which stores do you buy your wigs and clothes from?
thanks for the amazing videos, I look forward to them all the time! you do the most gorgeous faces and the dolls look incredible once finished.
Can you use makeup for faceups? I'm curious.
im from Mexico so i don´t know where buy the sealant and the gloss water based acrylic someone who knows where i can?
I have found that KRYLON matte finish has a similar look to msc. But it doesn't have very much tooth
Haha glad to see I was not the only one wondering about why she kept using Polychromos (oil based) pencils when those are supposedly bad for resin... well since the video is older it might be cleared up by now.
I’m pretty late on this video lol. But to do face ups, would it work if I used only acrylic paint to do the face up and then use Liquitex matte varnish as a sealer? (I would brush it on)
I always thought that the Derwent Inktense are not good for BJD face-ups.. I own huge set of those, but abadoned the idea of using them due they have all oil and that stuff in them.. But are they safe anyways? :o
Jest tu jeszcze ktoś z Polski? :)
miłego dnia :)
Hej xD
This is what I call real fashion dolls glamorous and elegant classy dresses are the best it makes the dolls even more beautiful... love them all 👗👠👜👛💄
When u are just a poor brazilin girl with 0 money. I paint my dolls with just pencil and nail polish kkkkkkkkk The dolls dont got an amazing look but I love doing it kkkkkkkk
Wait so you seal the whole face after drawing it out with the color pencils?
+stunningkurry i do it 3 times before I start drawing, many times in between the drawing process and a couple more times at the end. There is a lot of sealing involved to get this kind of colour intensity.
Do you mind sharing the exact three pigment colors that are pictured in the video? Thanks in advance ❤️
*opens amazon whilst watching this video and buys everything you had in the video* great now im broke and i kid you not I really did buy everything.
haha congrats! enjoy your customising adventures!
Do you dip the water color pencil in the water or you can use it right away?
No I never use water with pencils
Just a question but do you use Fabre Castell polychromos or Fabre Castell water colours??
is it fine if I holt my breath wyle spraiing mr. superclear? or do I realy nead a mask
(sorry fore the bad grammer I am dutch)
Have your (or anyone else) ever tried Liquitex Matte Varnish Spray?
where are you from? I am wondering because of the farber castell pencils. :D
can you please custom pullip doll? PLEASE!!
Since I'm cheap will crayola airbrush work?
Someone can Tell me what kind of pencils are this, im from Guatemala so i speak spanish and i cant understand her accent. :3
What if you don't have the sealant? Can you still make it because I have all the materials except for the things to make the sealant.
+Michelle Marquez the sealant is the most important material that makes everything else work properly.
no I haven't but I'm glad I because it seems like it was horrible :3
Instead of using water colour pencils, what else can you use?
so, with the liquitex sealant used with an airbrush, do you still need a respirator, or some kind of mask? Because it is non toxic? Sorry, was confused on that. Thank you!
Hey Susan Smith yes you still have to wear a mask. When something is labeled as "non toxic" it doesn't mean that it is good to inhale or ingest it, it usually only means that if some of it spills on your skin you will be ok. So play safe and make sure you use adequate protection, it is really not worth any long term consequences :) Gloves, respirators and eye protection can be bought with money, but health once it is messed up can be much more difficult and expensive to recover.
Thank you so much!
one ask!!! were i can find the pencils and the other color of picmets! (srry for the bad english
I had a thought about using the airbrushing sealant without an airbrush. Could you feasibly use one of that pump up aerosol cans that you use in cooking to put it in and spray that way?
I'm still confused about this, if I just painted the doll's face with an acrylic paint would not change the result?
Where would you say is the best place to buy cheap monster high dolls? I always look for bundles on ebay but they seem to go to crazy prices for some reason.
Thank you so much for this video omg
If the pencils need to water color pencils or simple pencils pleseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
What was the first product that she said in a studio I could not hear and with the pastels all based or water based
Can I use Prismacolor Verithin pencils for faceups?
The pencils should be watercolor or water soluble, I don't think that there are any of those in the verithin line by Prismacolor. The led in regular colored pencils, such as the verithins, are wax based and aren't good to use
Can you use makeup brushes ?
technically I don't see why not
I am getting a smart doll soon. She’s not painted and I’m worried I’ll mess her up
Just order a sealant I used to not use it and they would look really bad or maybe I just suck at drawing but idk
Hi, I was wondering, if I use a non toxic sealant (liquitex matte medium) Will I still need a respiratory mask?
+JokarGirl Unless you're using it as a brush-on, you should always use a respirator. Any time you use a spray-on sealant, you have airborne particles of paint that can settle in your lungs and make you ill. If it's a non-toxic sealant, though, you should only need a particulate filtering respirator, rather than a vapor filtering one, since there are no harmful vapors. :)
rawrmyuuchan
Thank you very much :)
+Genta I actually have way less problems with bubbles using the brush on sealant than with the other ones. Also when I use it, it takes the same amount of time to dry as the spray sealants :O Apart from that I absolutely agree with rawrmyuuchan always use a respirator, just because a sealant is not toxic, it doesnt mean it is healthy for your body to inhale it.
Can anyone pleeeeaaase look if this will be good? www.profiart.ro/uploads/products/822/094376942248_1.jpg I tried translating "sealing" into my language and found this liquetex thing [Mr Clear doesnt even ship to my country] . So please let me know if this is also good. ::)
do you specifically need water color pencils or can you just use normal colored pencils
water colours are much safer. Any materials containing oils may stain your doll.
Nicolle's Dreams in this video you are using Faber-Castell Polychromos, and they are not water colour pencils, but oil based. Thought I'd let you know
Nicolle's Dreams would the prisma brand work?
Regular colored pencils are wax based and may harm your dolls. Watercolors are not wax based and can be washed off without staining the head, which is why they are ideal.
Hi -- you mention that you shouldn't use oil-based materials on the dolls, but in the video, you show Polychromos pencils, which are oil-based. Do you use Polychromos on the dolls? Or watercolor pencils? They look so creamy and soft! But I'm confused about what you use :(
Then I want to get my ball jointed doll is makeup.
You deserve more subscribers! You are so creative!
It really needs to be Faber Casttle whater color pencils?😔
I always love ur intros 😊😆😊 and thanks for the video, it's really helpful
Thank you for the video, I've been dying to try this out myself since watching your videos, and now I know what I need. I love, love, love your work. You are an inspiration, thank you so much for being amazing!!
Thank you so much Kiera :D
Could you use modge podge gloss in a bottle if you water it down to put on the eyes of an EAH?
What type of accent are you using
Eventually (when I get time) I plan on making some dolls (mainly to recreate some of my gaming characters in the past) so I've been watching so that I understand the process better. But I had a question about the pencils in your video. You showed Polychromos pencils, which are not watercolor pencils but an oil based colored pencil. (I currently use them with my watercolors for illustration), so... those will work in this method, the oil isn't an issue or anything?
I'm still really confused about respirators, and even though I've done a bunch of research and compared brands I'm not really sure which one I need, that would be best for me to use while doing face ups. Do you have any recommendations?
+Yakutie Q did you have a look at the DoA thread about respiratory protection? It suggests quite a few options :)
+Nicolle's Dreams No I didn't I will look at it right now, thank you!
Hello Andreja. It would be amazing if you give me a link to the thread too ;) Thank you tremendously ;)
Chinh Pham I don't have the link on me, just search on the forum "respiratory protection" you should find it.
what do you use to erase mistakes?
an eraser :)
so does she use the derwent water color or the inktense derwent pencils?
Can these kind of materials be used on barbie dolls?
What can I use instead of Mr super clear spray
Love your videos! Looking to custom dolls myself, but I have to ask:
If I want to paint the dolls face and body a different color can I use acrylic / water based paint and then seal that with a flat sealant to then draw over and paint?
+onetrunerd You can do it, but be aware that the paint will chip very easily. I've done it a few times, but do not do it anymore, it just doesnt seem worth the effort and time since the doll becomes so delicate and sensitive that I am afraid to damage her by just picking her up or changing clothes/shoes/wigs/etc
+Nicolle's Dreams Thank you for the reply!! If acrilyic paint doesn't work best even if you seal it, how else would I go about if I want to change the skin tone of the entire doll? What do you recommend?
Sorry to ask, what materials do you use to model the dolls?
