@@Dreamyy_Remyy Except JD isn't a bad boy villain, he's a traumatized boy who takes his trauma out on others which makes him dangerous. He's so attached to Veronica to the point he'd do anything for her, which is why he eventually loses his mind once Veronica breaks up with him. He justifies killing these people because they're worthless humans to him, as in Heather Chandler, someone who was nothing but mean to everyone (and Veronica) which is why he could justify killing her. And Kurt and Ram were assholes towards her (Veronica) as well, they constantly hit on her and even went as far as trying to make a move on her without consent. He can justify these murders because these are people who hurt someone he loved more than anyone else in his life and a sense of stability for himself, he's a manipulator but he thinks what he's doing is the best for Veronica, blowing up the school so that all the toxins that infected the school would be eradicated. Everything he does is what he "should" be doing in the name of his love for Veronica, despite it not being what Veronica wants, he still convinces himself and her that it's what's best for the both of them.
My favorite will always be Ryan McCartan. The way he yells Veronica soo viciously makes me scared every time. He is such an amazing JD and is a little underrated because of Jamie. They are both definitely amazing, but I think Ryan portrays the different sides of JD soo well, better than anybody: demon JD and human JD.
@nugget4950 they were both on a show in the early 2010s called "liv and maddie" where dove played two twins with one being a famous actress and the other being an athlete, diggie was maddie's love interest, it was pretty good at the time but I haven't seen it since so I'm not sure how it holds up lol
JD feels like a male jury duty for broadway actors-every male actor has to play him and apparently none of us knew that half of our favorite actors played him at some point
If you’re a man in musical theatre under the age of 40, you’ve been a Newsie in Newsies or Mormon from The Book Of Mormon. If you can’t dance, you were a J.D from Heathers or Fiyero in Wicked.
can we just talk about how well diego montez did?? like he showed how absolutely insane jd is and he showed it SO well. idc that he sang in portuguese that's the best portrayal of jd i've seen
Ryan McCartan captures the mood really well, and Jamie Muscato does extremely well both in terms of acting and singing for this song. While I am a sucker for Jamie, I can understand loving either. Now I have to say: Why is no one talking about Jordan Luke Gage?!? That man does just as well as Ryan and Jamie in terms of capturing psychopath and still sings very well. Honestly, he may capture the mental breakdown better than any of these others. Super underrated performance Edit: Forgot to mention: Also love Dan's performance, his version of the first half of the song is the best, no one goes "BAM BAM BAM" quite like he does
HONESTLY, DAN JUST TAKES THE WHOLE CAKE FOR ME. HE'S SO GOOD AT SINGING AND I LOVE HOW HE PORTRAYS JD. I ALSO HAVE A MINI BIAS BECAUSE WHEN I SEE HIM AS JD THAT'S HOW I IMAGINE JD WOULD LOOK, SO LIKE DAN DOMENECH SOLOS
Sorry they're all great but Jamie Muscato is unbeatable on this song. It's not only his vocal technique but his interpretation, the way he makes you feel that JD has become completely mad is unique.
I have to say, I'm not the biggest fan of the West End Version, but God damn it Jamie Muscato is phenomenal. He's honestly the best JD I've seen, the way he flinches whenever Veronica touches him, his expressions, his singing, everything is incredible.
Agreed, to me he's neck and neck with Jamie, and both interpretations are so different it really feels unfair to compare the two. What's the most impressive to me is that he holds his own against performers who are in the professional circuit, and they all probably have at least 5-10 years on him. I would love to see him perform the role in a professional venue someday, he is so so talented and deserves a full run as JD.
I think why Jamie Muscato slayed so hard with JD is because he didn't over-sell it. Every movement he made has purpose. Every moment of "crazy" was done with intention, and that's why when he just stands and stares while singing at the audience, it's even more unsettling and scary
100% Ryan. I love the official Spotify version for him but hearing his sheer desperation and insanity screaming near the end towards Veronica’s name is perfection. He sounds so deranged and broken.

Dan Domenech will always be my favorite JD He was the first JD I’ve seen and I also love how he plays the character (especially the way he says “BAM BAM BAM” earlier in the song
The one thing I love about Dan is how melodic he can be while still playing the raging psycho part. He pictures perfectly how J.D. is trying to sound romantic but also completely losing his temper.
Can't believe Forest's version is actually a collage stage play. His version is the first Heathers' stage play I'd seen, and I actually love this version best
Dan and Jamie have to be my all time favorite JD’s, and don’t get me wrong, they’re all great. It’s just they sing all their parts so well, and perfectly expresses that insanity within the character. Wish they both got more recognition!
Honestly Jamie’s performance is just flawless to me, it has always been my favorite and probably always will be. The way he shifts emotions so quickly is so impressive, really. Additionally, I liked both Ryan’s and Dan’s performances as well. Back to fan-girling over Jaime though, the west end cast is spectacular, and Carrie and Jamie are an ICONIC duo…PERIOD.
All things considered, Jamie is still my favorite JD, he manages to mix desperation, desire, fury, and that small tinge of manipulation that just hits different in such a crucial moment. His little mannerisms really sell to me the mentally disturbed teenager angle too. And his facial expressions are absolutely terrifying. He's equal times pathetic and horrifying to watch. Simply fantastic!
How have Iived my entire theatre kid life not knowing that Jeremy Jordan was apart of the making of Heathers, and also sang a version of Meant To Be Yours.
Jamie brings an extra edge I think. He looks so dark under his eyes and withdrawn, he's like a walking criminal mugshot. He genuinely looks like an unstable male teenager who's planning a massive school murder spree. His way of singing doesn't play off as hammy, or glossily 'theatrical'. It feels like you're listening to him reason and deliberate in a spoken tv drama, with subtle changes of emotion; delusion, heartbreak, tired, impatient despair and then pure, vitriolic manic anger.
Honestly I think he's one of the best but watching him is triggering for me because his expressions are SO CLOSE to those of an abusive ex of mine. Which means he has completely done his homework as an actor in this role. His performance is very true to life and like you mention, never feels contrived or phony.
Glad you included a few non-English versions. Diego does something interesting, yelling rather than singing the final line before “I’m gonna count to 3!” Actually works well at showing his broken state, as he breaks what would be expected of the musical. Not a fan of his use of the gun, but I also think Forest(one of my favorites) does it weirdly as well by having the gun while yelling Veronica, before putting it away to count. Opposite would’ve clarified that that was the point he became ready to kill her.
It’s a crime that Jeremy Jordan has only done the workshop. I need to see him do an official production. Dan Domenech is AMAZING!!!! Simon Gordon is also really good too.
Obviously Jamie Muscato is great there’s no denying that, but Wendell Scherer is so underrated the way he pleads “can we not fight anymore” and the way he goes from off the rails threatening to desperate pleading that is exactly how I would’ve expected it to sound.
Obviously Mariah Rose Faith's version probably doesn't fully count because she didn't actually play the role, but we need to discuss her because WOW. I CAN NOT STOP WATCHING HER TAKE ON THIS SONG!! Edit: here's the timestamp: 4:32

For me, i really like Diego, Jamie and Ryan. I can be a little biased because i'm brazilian, but i just love how Diego's JD is completely insane and just yells "PORRA" in the end. Diego is so underrated, musical theatre in Brazil is so underrated!
I am obsessed with Ryan as JD. Perfect casting. He legit scares me, every time he does that change from “VERONICA OPEN THE DOOR” to the softer voice just scares me…. But Dan’s JD is a close second
Listen, we all know Jamie Muscato ROCKS JD, and he's gotta be my favorite interpretation, but I want to highlight Jordan Luke Gage. the way he sings/screams, the tonality of it really sounds like JD still thinks he's in the right, and has no idea why no one's listening. There's some... hopefulness? something that just screams that he doesn't think anything he's doing is truly wrong. The part where he almost tauntingly says "can we not fight anymore please" like he thinks all of this is a game, like this is just a little play before they get to do the "fun" stuff. Also, overtime as he sings the verse, he's quickly getting more desperate as he goes on, but still has the attempt of coaxing in his voice. I also might be overanalyzing this but who knows!
Ok now here's my conclusion. None of them are "Bad Jd's" Some people have preferences, like honestly I'm a Christian Slater and Dan denech fan BUT Ryan was outstanding at the role and his voice work is absolutely gorgeous. Overall all of them are good and we love all Jd's.Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
Confesión: usé este video para crear un mini Clip a partir de la versión de Juanse Diez no me juzguen, es que de verdad se me hizo padre esa versión porque prueba que él además de hablar en español también es Talentoso cantando en inglés
If you ever want to add another one, I have an audio from The Other Palace in 2023! I'd have to check the actor name, but he was amazing and isn't on here. (The audio is also just really good in general and has the best Our Love is God I've ever heard)
i agree that jamie, ryan and dan are amazing, however, i think forrest, zach and jordan are so good and underrated :/ wish people gave them more attention, they nail so much that role
Jaime just captures the pure insanity of jd and how conflicted and tortured he is with his mixed emotions perfectly. And his teen boy mannerisms are spot on, you’re scared of him and you feel sorry for him. SO GOOD
Ryan McCarthy and it's not even that close. He is SO accurate to the film JD's persona, and 100% embodying that manic energy that seeps through the ever-widening cracks in JD's typical-troubled-teen facade. Absolutely masterful and the take most everyone else is starting from. Honorable mention to Jordan Luke Gage, who I've seen play the role and is much stronger than this short clip may suggest. My second favorite JD.
Dan Domenech is definitely my favorite, no one can change my mind. Idk why but I like his performance and the way he played JD, I like how he screams Veronica
Hot take but I love Wendell as jd especially with his insturmentals and the non English jds add a new angle to his character especially with their dressing I just love them
Acabo de notar una coincidencia entre el nombre de Jason Dean y Juanse Diez, y es que ambos nombres empiezan con la letra J y ambos apellidos empiezan con la Letra D así que la abreviatura de JD también serviría para el nombre de Juanse Diez

I got literal chills from Mariah, loved the twist she gave to the song
faves are definitely Forrest (3:25), Diego (5:23), and ofc Jamie (3:58)
Confesión: usé este video para crear un mini Clip a partir de la versión de Juanse Diez
no me juzguen, es que de verdad se me hizo padre esa versión porque prueba que él además de hablar en español también es Talentoso cantando en inglés
The Fact that also Juanse Diez did his cover of "Meant to be yours" just got me Surprised ( almost blew my Mind )
If you ever want to add another one, I have an audio from The Other Palace in 2023! I'd have to check the actor name, but he was amazing and isn't on here.
(The audio is also just really good in general and has the best Our Love is God I've ever heard)
Is it Jacob Fowler? cause if it is, I'm interested ;)
i agree that jamie, ryan and dan are amazing, however, i think forrest, zach and jordan are so good and underrated :/ wish people gave them more attention, they nail so much that role
Dan Domenich was principal JD after Ryan left
Seeing thomas sanders here after dan is such a flashbang
SO THIS IS HOW I FIND OUT JEREMY JORDAN WAS JD IN THE WORKSHOPS?!?!
Hot take but I love Wendell as jd especially with his insturmentals and the non English jds add a new angle to his character especially with their dressing I just love them
Jacob Fowler is and always will be my favourite JD 😊
I had no idea Jeremy Jordan did workshop for heathers
I saw Jacob Fowler twice bc he’s doing UK tour now and he’s incredible
Dan was the first one I saw so he’s my favorite!
Acabo de notar una coincidencia entre el nombre de Jason Dean y Juanse Diez, y es que ambos nombres empiezan con la letra J y ambos apellidos empiezan con la Letra D así que la abreviatura de JD también serviría para el nombre de Juanse Diez
jeremy jordan is everywhere istg.
im sorry but dan is literally the best , he's so iconic and u cant tell em otherwise
No ones talking about Jordan Luke Gage. Hes underrated. But ryan and jamie are best
RYAN AND JAMIE’S PERFORMANCES ARE SO WELL SUNG
Diego's was unique! The erratic movements to the beats of the music was a nice touch
Love everyone. But, Jamie Muscato
