Thank you so much Lananh. I get pulled over constantly where i'm at and i've been struggling but now i finally found a simple explanation of how to get my out of state plates and ID switched to Cali! Why did they give me 2 plates?? 😂 that made me laugh!
When I did this I had to get the smog done first, so I’d recommend doing it before going to the dmv, also bring the certificate that the smog place gives you. It’s illegal not to drive without a front plate in CA, they will pull you over for it and ticket you. It’s pretty standard practice for most states, reason, it’s easy to track down hit and run car accidents, there’s a lot in CA. I know having a front plate varies from state to state. Obviously Alabama doesn’t require a front plate so that’s why you only get one. Good vid!
I just got my Cali plate from a DMV affiliate, but the price was almost 7b😢. I have one month remaining on my current auto insurance and have already requested to change my address. Would you suggest utilizing it and then getting new local insurance before it expires?
You have given more information than most others YTbers on the topic. Thanks for the video. I’m going through the same as you now. Just moved from Georgia to California. Just got the License, next will be tags.
@@abnerdivera8696 I did not. For military, we are not required to re-register our vehicles to the state we’re stationed. Now, while stationed in CA, to do rideshare or use my vehicle business wise then yes I would have to. Which is why I look at your video to see the process.
I’m trying to buy a car and the guy told me it was super simple but it isn’t. 😭 and cost money so I’m going to stick with buying a car with California plates already. I hate the DMV
Do you the smog check after you do the registration switch in CA or do you do it prior to the DMV visit. Also do they give you license plates in the mail with the registration ?
My plates are going to expire at the end of July and moved in CA last October. I didn’t know you had change plates within 30 days. Is there a fee for that?
do they remove the plate from your car at the DMV when they do that vehicle verification? like can i drive my car to the dmv and remove the plates there?
@@abnerdivera8696I did my car registration first and didn’t do my DL until months later because it was just hard to get into the DMV (make an appointment !). They can’t fine you because they aren’t keeping tracking with how long you’ve been there

Thanks for the video. Do i need to take my car to DMV? Because my registration is already expired. I am afraid, If i drive that car, i may get pulled over. Can i do it online ?
you’re suppose to get it changed within a certain amount of time but I didn’t do mine right away, I did mine a couple months in. I think some people just don’t do it
Please pin this comment. *Get and bring the smog check.* The DMV website says you dont need it if its 8 model years or newer, thats incorrect! Get a smog check! Also...they will back date you based on the date you entered California. I only got a 6 month registration even though my out of state registration was still valid in my home state for work reasons...
Well just be advised if you did live in California you would have to change your license plates within 30 days after you moved. The reason why I say that is because if you do get new California plates your license plate number will not start with eight it will start with nine because they're fixing to reformat the plates in California in this case I would probably get a license plate number basically that would start with one digit actually the first three digits the next three letters and then the last digit in this case it would be a or it would be actually 0 5 3 AAA 1. Since they ran out of nine zzz 999 or 8zz 999 because right now baseball is going to end up happening is we're going to start seeing new license plates with the reforming basically with the new format is what I'm trying to say. Because there is a slight difference between 1888000 and 000 aaa1 it's in reverse order. So it's like reading the license plate backwards but you're actually reading it forward. I should know I used to live in california. I remember when they started with one aaa0000 when they were blue and yellow but now they're still white with dark blue lettering so I think it helps out.
THANK YOU for this video. Just moved from OH in September. You explained the process way better than the actual DMV site!

Nah, the cops just want to make it easier to see you. Just like the tint laws. Has nothing to do with safety.
