God bless John (I mean that in the best and most appropriate way). He's still writing, singing, playing, composing and most fascinately and perhaps uniquely, still THINKING.

John Cale's techno reworking of his classic 1970's Island label LP.s songs left me cold when I saw him play live in Melbourne a year or so back. Mr. Cale is still one of the greats.

He's probably bored with being asked the same questions over and over again through the years. Happy birthday to you by the way Mr John Cale who is 77 today.

My small claim to fame. It was me who recommended to Tony, that John was invited to that earlier appearance at ITC in Liverpool. Also Brian Eno 😊

@@natures_neighbor Hi. Guess you are a ND fan (as am i). I'd really recommend a book titled Remembered for a While. Its beautiful, but for me the most precious element of that volume is the diary extracts from Nick's dad. After his songs, that is the one thing that comes close to knowing him.

@@sodiumlights Sounds like a great read. I've definitely never heard of that book before and would love to get my hands on a copy. I've seen every documentary about him and heard every radio special on him and still feel the urge to find out more. So I appreciate the recommendation! Thanks again.

for you to be on a John Cale video feedback enquiring about him is pretty genuine. Back in '97 (I think) I met Joe Boyd after a talk he gave at the Barbican, London . Such a warm guy. (he did all he really could). Nick wasn't a star, glory hunter, or anyone really who should be on stage. Thats something else. And there's many elements that make his recordings special (as I know you know). And you may also think that quality will also somehow float to the top in 2021. Like John Cale says, over-saturation. Everything is good. And thats where this bullshit 'so underrated' starts to flood in. If you want something unique, something poetic, and a someone who has disappeared, check out Florian Lunaire. Now that's another quiet genius.

One dimensional interviewing, when John talks of Paris 1919 the interviewer just moves on to the next thing :(

The conversation feels awkward. John is fascinating, eloquent and articulate but the interviewer is just pausing too much and making it clear he's working down a list of questions.

Odd. Cale has a habit of launching into answers that don't really answer the question then at the end of his mini-monologues he delivers pronouncements that leave you expecting a follow-up thought but no, he's done. Silence. So it's constantly awkward because as an interviewer you're not sure where to go next. Cale just leaves you hanging.

What difference is it what label John is on? Longhair is asked for a lesson and Mr Cale graciously provided it. Music journalists are such a bore.
