Lou was always honest and straight forward..Man we could use that today..
One of my best friends, i never met
RIP Lou you were an absolute genius of a musician...
Gotta hand it to the interviewer, she did a pretty good job. Lou Reed certainly isn't the easiest person to interview by a long shot!
I miss him.
Bloody oath she did
He has always been an insecure arrogant guy
Try John Lydon
@@savanaviolenta Mr John
Great songwriter; great music maker; great guy. Miss you Lou!
No. Just no.
I love Lou. He takes no shit and speaks his mind truthfully.
outshined its easy to fuck with reporters its stupid. I haven't heard him say anything too often that is really amazing.
@@eli-schlomo-wetshekelstien6696 What are you talking about, imbecile?
@@eli-schlomo-wetshekelstien6696 obviously you are not a Lou fan or u don't listen to the lyrics he wrote Maybe you should listen to Pale Blue Eyes or waiting for my man and Lou's genius will come through ✌
truthfully? he's actually an irony machine lol
He also gave a lot of shit
Lou always tells a lot of jokes in his interviews but his interviewers always take him face value
Exactly. They aren't bright enough to realise that. He's always on the verge of smiling when he makes a wise crack. And interviewers are like deer in the headlights. They're unable to process his comments.
He was an OG troll.
I love Reed but he's a dickhead here and alot of other times.
Yeh, early on Lou told a whole string of jokes - the interviewer didn't seem to get any of them - and Lou just looks forward at the person presenting themselves to him, wondering.
I can't argue with an idiot, it's like talking to a squirrel lol 😂
he's a very genuine person
The interviewer can forever brag about the fact that Lou Reed told her he loved her!
How many times can one interviewer go, "hmmmm?" With this one, it's limitless.
Hmmm. Annoying isn't it?
Well he’s full of the joys of spring !
Berlin was one of the monuments of music in my life. Spent a summer riding around drinking premixed screwdrivers and ……. There’s a special beauty in this and albums like tonight’s the night
He's very generous about the people he works with who he admires.
"It's like talking to a squirrel"
He is actually talking in full sentences during an interview.
wow...reed is almost gushingly polite
The sobriety question!! Hahaha … I swear I laugh more watching some Lou interviews than I do most stand up comedy.
@barrett402 Yeah, drop it!
Lou had a very rocky relationship with the Australian media LOL...he seemed pretty chill here
Wow, I love you Lou. Thank you for the gift.
15:45 Ooh. She has barely started asking her question, and you can already see Lou suddenly getting pissed off, his lips tightening up; he's been around the track enough times to see it coming a mile away and as nice as the interview has been going so far I can hear him muttering to himself, "oh, for Christ's sake..." This girl seemed fairly well-prepared compared to most of the idiots who've talked with him, so she should have known full well not to tread there. It's a little chilling to watch.
I CHANGE MY MIND SO PURE SIMPLE LIKE HÉRO STRANGE BIG SUBJECT I'M NOT HOMO BUT HE'S SO CALM NOTHING UNUSFULL
Tracy who I wonder... She was indeed well prepared, and she was scared shitless - and she still won him over, sort of - very courageously done; great interview.
moogyboy6 I think he’s joking around with her as he subtlety does in a lot of interviews but the they’re always so nervous they don’t know how to take him, I love watching it, especially how he asks questions and tries to get them to say their opinion too. And feels like if they’re gonna interview him they should be smart enough to know what he’s talking about from Prussia to life in the Congo
he's an idiot...a fraud....
Kevin you poor thing.
He's was a serious guy - but better behaved here than in many other interviews.
Lou will listen to you till the very end.
Love you so much, Lou. Wish I was born a bit earlier so I could have seen you live
Lou is such a stoic person to interview, one of the most difficult people to interview. He seems to be so controversial in his answers…not a happy man.Don’t get me wrong I love his music.Tracy will never forget this interview.
He never suffered fools and was always one step ahead of them all.
I don't think he suffers anyone!
i think he was up his own bum
I disagree. Lou was just an asshole. I love his music but he was a cantankerous prick.
@@octagonseventynine1253 asshole is your mother, whereas he a hell genius that fools like you don't understand
he's a fraud...an veritable plastic Bertrand...ha ha ha
I love Lou Reed. But,thé life is so bad bécasse you are not heure today. Thanks Mister Lou Reed for your song. Excuse me for my bad english but I’m french.
This interview makes me a little sad because I know he only has 6 more years to live.
It’s like talking to a squirrel! 😂 ❤️U Lou wherever u are dude
Lou looks shell shocked and like his thoughts are really somewhere else.
His strong reaction to the sobriety question. A poignant time perhaps. x
'Why did you leave out people who like goats??"-Lou never suffered fools lightly-god bless
I imagine the interviewer (and anyone else) would shit themselves when copping Reed's 'don't fuck with me' stare down. Reed is in total control all throughout this interview, and I admire the way he is so cool when the interviewer goes out of bounds. He could tell them to fuck off and leave the interview, but he stays seated and calmly stops the interviewers attempt directly and in a polite and respectful manner. He seems to know himself, perhaps that's why he's so cool and in control. RIP Lou Reed
Polite and respectful could be argued against in a way but yeah, at least he's cool as a cucumber. Shows where the boundary is and bodies her attempt. But he's not very polite and not very respectful, towards others that is, everything's on his terms.
I photographed Lou Reed in 2007 when he was invited to Australia by Fergus Linehan to perform at the State Theatre as part of the annual Sydney Festival. I photographed John Cale at the Enmore Theatre around the same time. I now suspect Lou may have already been ill by this time (2007), although he lived for another six years. I later moved to Detroit. Iggy Pop was from a town called Ypsilanti, not Detroit proper, but it isn't too far from Detroit. Iggy didn't mind having a laugh and 'taking the mickey' during interviews, so it was nice to see Lou also being receptive to interviewers here (2007), unlike his 1974-75 interviews on tour. It makes for a more interesting and insightful look at the artist in question. Sure, interviewers ask stupid questions, and Tracy did in this ABC interview, but Lou was still fairly accommodating. I mean, some interviewers don't even prepare properly or know next to nothing about the people they're interviewing. You might get away with that at a press conference, but not in a one-on-one interview situation. People should've asked Lou more about New York City, the town he's always been so associated with. It has become much safer, but it has also become so gentrified and expensive. Detroit's still unsafe, but that too is getting expensive - at least in the small number of reasonably safe neighbourhoods - Downtown Detroit, Midtown, Woodbridge, Corktown, the Cass Corridor. Rents have skyrocketed in recent years in those areas, while the rest of Detroit is still blighted and deadly.
"The people are incredibly nice, always." hahahahahahahahahahhahaahahah
A really special, special person. R.I.P.
This is painful.
Are all his interviews done in Sydney?
"It's the parts they left out that I like........ typically." said in a completely deadpan way. Absolutely delicious.
For light relief after enduring this train wreck go to "Lou Reed '74 Australia Funniest Press Conference EVER & Wild side + Rock 'n Roll" video which is extremely hilarious :) the difference being that he got off the drugs (which we dare not speak of) unfortunately; much more agreeable guy back then, and retained his sense of humour. I still love ya Lou!
Lou looks pissed lol
No, he's not. He's just tired.
Very bored or depressed, rather
@@IHeartNoise dude had that thousand yard stare lol
His eyes are kinda....off.
His stare is sad....
That's what I can see, I am I wrong?
I heard that he had depression. His eyes look sad. Depression is hell, ive made some videos of my experience of depression, there is also 1 whole folder on my channel about understanding depression. It is in the playlist part of my channel if anyone wants to check it out and can relate to them, or can get something from them ? Over 400 videos. Thanks
He also said that he despises journalists and probably doesn't care much for interviews. The man always has his dry sense of humor going as well
best brit pop king ever
No, I see it, too. I think he is a melancholic.
Honestly I think it's really the reflection to his music, and sort of dark side his songs have...depression's one side, but maybe it was just how he chose to be, to make his music HIS. Just my opinion, but RIP Mr. Lou Reed. The Songwriting/Rock Music World's lost one of it's greatest.
Love Reed's terse response to the review that called Berlin "one of the most depressing records ever made." He was always miffed at the snobby attitude many rock music critics then had toward artists like himself who dared to inject some mature themes and qualities into the genre. To them, it was perfectly acceptable for the Rolling Stones to do songs about drug use, sexual escapades, and other debauchery because they did so in a rebellious, almost tongue-in-cheek spirit that has been part and parcel of rock n' roll from the start. Yet, any effort at approaching these subjects through a high-minded lens would invariably be derided by these critics as pretentious, gratuitous, anti-social, and subversive of good taste. Hence why other cutting-edge artists of the era like Suicide, Television, Richard Hell, Iggy Pop, and, to a certain extent, David Bowie were often pilloried in the conventional music press anytime they tried something experimental, challenging, or against the grain. Goes the pedantic critic, "Let the introspective, arty, and cerebral stuff remain the domain of literature, theatre, and avant-garde music; don't you know rock is only meant to be about teenage romance and rebellion!"
Better be on top of your game when you interview The Lou.
Lou, a real out front human being.
Maybe if the media had treated Mr, Reed with a little more respect, he might of reciprocated.....But I didn't know him personally, so that's just an observation.
I love you Lou!
Rage is a music video program televised in Australia broadcast nationally by the Australian Broadcasting Commission. It airs overnight on Friday and Saturday nights
that's true
How sick and tired he is...of the squirrels.
He looks ill to me, too. Depressed or at least very sad. And what´s with his throat, it looks weird from the outside. I love Lou Reed, so this is not to say anything bad about him, I just wonder what was going on with him, never saw an interview from this time in his life before. Does anybody know?
He gad liver cancer .. look his stomach at the end .. protruding .. he died after liver transplant ..
She's so sweet but... Lou is Lou
I'd have loved Lou Reed and Mark E Smith to have met each other. Both prickly characters with an intense love of literature. I'd imagine there'd be a lot of mutual respect. But they might have been too similar to get on. We'll never know now.
I love Mr reed....
What did she ask on 16:00 that made him furious and refused to answer?
she has her list of questions & checking them each off is more important than the answer, pretending to be even the slightest bit interested in what he offers up.
Classic album
Lou Never Made Prisoners 🖤
Lou fucks with the tai chi
He was amazing! Those who know just know. Fuck those ignorant peeps that don't get it.
They get left behind
I believe the people that don't like him are not intelligent to be able to relate to him. They want to hear commercial canned answers. Anyone who doesn't fit that mold and doesn't say what they expect to hear is called names, like "idiot" or "fraud".
I thought this was good interview and he was open with her,......I don't understand the complaints...........do they all come from Australians I wonder ??......I thought it was good journalism, she wasn't being a sycophant and tried too have some understanding of him as when he talks about yoga !!.......protect yourself man !!..
Lou Reed was a prick but made some of my favourite music of all time. Top ten some. That's saying something because I know more about music than anyone. And have better taste. And better jeans.
Oh little grasshopper...Jeans are so passe....get some proper dress slacks kiddo
Cock
Nick you know nada
"Why'd you leave out people who like goats?" HAHAHAHAHA
and yet here it is. not dropped !
i bought berlin when it first come out...knew it was a work of genius...rock n roll xx
sounds more like a trial
Il avait 16ans quand il est entré dans ce gourbi.
Qu'est-ce que tu veux que j'écoute🤯
The interviewer is very much an interviewer and not very human. Sure these aren't the typical questions, I'll give her that but you can still see Lou wanting to get interviewed by an actual person every once in a while if you know what I'm saying
O inemitavel Lou
Heard he was a cruel dude to many people?
yep.
Lou's like "wtf am i doing here".
ya kno... Lou had a reputation 4 being a rough interview subject, being short with answers, vague, etc... but this interview is a perfect example of an interviewer not taking a hint... Lou was all about discussing Tai Chi, he was genuinely interested in talking about it, and all she did was keep trying to change the topic to exhaust her mundane question list... pathetic
@Roger Clemons the Lou was never boring
@@y0sh1100 Tai Chi people posing in the park, go and show off somewhere else.
@@kirby711 : he was a total fraud...
@@kevinherbert4256 you are a fraud Lou Reed was so down to earth and produced the greatest poetry and music of the 60s and beyond LISTEN TO PALE BLUE EYES AND waitin' for my man and you'll begin to see the light like uncle Lou said
I love Lou Reed but someone in his position can’t expect the media to ask him solely about what he’s interested in that day. If he wants to talk about Tai Chi he can hire his own interviewer. Journalists ask the questions they believe are relevant.
Every time he started to expand on a point, she dismissed him right away and moved on to next question... And the sceptical "hmm". So uncomfortable.
I don't even like his music----I just watch his interviews because I think they're funny
He reminds me a bit of old, cranky, arrogant Jerry Lewis.
Jerry Lewis made me believe there is no line that one can cross and be hated if they’re talented enough. Bill Cosby proved me wrong.
Both new York jews
What a bad ass...
i wanna know when
Lou is emotionally tense here. Tired?
not an interviewer, just a quoter of questions.
Never seen him smile
i am not english so could someone please explain me what exactly he said to her when she said most depressing record
iim xBlade A music journalist wrote that about "Berlin" in a review of the album when it originally came out, I believe; Lou is upset because many people believed what the reviewer said and so they didn't buy the album because they thought it'd be no fun to listen to. He says this is a reason it took so long to produce "Berlin" as a stage show. Basically this reviewer helped to ruin the record's reputation with the public and he's angry about that; Lou doesn't think the "most depressing record" opinion was fair or accurate. Lou mentions several plays by Shakespeare and one by Tennessee Williams as examples of *really* depressing literature, more than "Berlin", and basically says that music journalists are so ignorant that he doesn't even want to discuss what they think about his music.
he kinda reminds me of Zappa with reporters
"Why did you leave out...people that like goats?"
Aaron Whan I was wondering if anyone else caught that lol :)
I think she came of as a fan who was a little star struck but still she did OK. Maybe she should've pushed harder on the Taiji ...
What's the deal with RAGE? I seen it around but never figured out what it is.
Rage is an Australian music program, been going for years in Australia
not one shit is given
hey what shall we talk about ...
Lou is playing games
Finally, I found a decent Lou Reed interview! So tired of finding nothing but idiot interviewers goading him about drugs and drag queens. .....and damn, she tries to go there too.
Oh my , we are watching the person we know that's Lou Reed, those eyes ,the inside of him is gone ,Were? he gave us great music though. sad this watch.
he was the same as he ever was.
Berlin could have been a film
Lou is sort of the Jerry Lewis of rock and roll. Just think about it for awhile, you Jerry fans out there.
WHAOU, le deal.
Elle est dans tous ses états 😃😄😆😆😆😌😌.
Lou the guru
She's so presumptuous.
'You spend so much time in your head, so that's why you meditate'.
Lou replies 'if you say so'
Lou was such a daunting interviewee, because he seemed to want to deconstruct the concept of the interview. Get down to the whole absurdity of the thing. As in - here we are, two strangers in a hotel room; neither of us wanting to be jere.
And when the interview ended you seem to know more about the interviewer than Lou. He always exposed their cynicism.
Of course she does yoga.
Those "ummm's" were very annoying
Fosters Australian for beer lol
