I prefer this subtle clackiness over other more prominent HMX clacky switches.

Perfect review format :) Can you add some sort of ranking for smoothness ?

Thank you! I'll try to think about a format for that (so many switches to display all of them :'))

I've ordered these since my Hyacinth V2s are louder and clackier than I would like them to be. They are very good, don't get me wrong, I am just trying to find the perfect sound for me. Can't wait to try them out in Neo65 :D

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  3 месяца назад

Let me know how they compare to the Hyacint V2s IRL - I don't have the Hyacinths, but I imagine they would be only slightly less loud and maybe a different kind of clack.

Ktt rose are my favorite, they sound so creamy in my allu keyboard, 10/10 perfect pre lubrication

They're loud-ish but deep sounding...XMX is on the roll with deeper sounding switches lately...
I'm still waiting for a heavy tactile from HMX, lol.

Oh, yes, I was also wondering how comes that they haven't really tackled the tactile market yet!

I'm looking for a HMX switch that sounds like the Alpaca V2, not too thin sounding and still clean and clacky. Any recommendations?

    • @thoccnology

I haven't tried the Alpacas myself, but the cleanest, clackiest HMX I can think of is the Macchiato - or this SU colors if you want higher pitched.

tbh homegirl there are so many new switch offerings I can't tell anymore if it's all a load of bs. are all these mfs just making new switches just to make new switches and profit off of them, or are they making new switches because they believe these new switches offer something different and worthwhile than the last 25 other linear switches they had. thoughts on the matter?
What are your top switches for satisfaction and delight?

    • @thoccnology

If almost nothing changes between the releases, then yeah - it's probably all about the money.
But I've met with people who were looking for a specific colored (!) switch to match their build (not shaming anyone here, I also love it when everything matches in a keyboard build :)).
And if the manufacturers tweak the lubing, material combinations, or the molds they'll end up with valid switches that we can fairly call as new.
I can see your point, as there's an overwhelming amount of switch - and almost every sound profile has been covered with them.
But these new releases are needed to fuel the research financially so that they can experiment with new molds (which are super expensive to manufacture) and invent whole new designs (like the ball-bearing switches of KBDFans and Wuque, etc.)
I like to think this way at least :) 2-5 years back we could also say that 'oh, all sound profiles have been covered by now, we have at least 5 linear switches, no more reason to create new variants' - and this way we would get stuck with a bunch of unrefined red, yellow and black switches :D we won't know how much the market has changed until we try using a brown switch from 2021 (did that recently and man, I almost puke - exaggerating ofc) :D

@@thoccnology That's actually very valid and makes sense, I guess there's no harm in more options as eventually it'll lead to something different through trial and error. Those ball bearing switches do look intriguing too 😳
I must be fatigued from looking at all these releases. I watched a video of a HMX sound test with 20+ switches and I couldn't tell what the bro was talking about because they all sounded 99.89% the same. Had me questioning my life. It really seemed like it was down to the aesthetics of the switch, actuation force, smoothness, etc.
With switches being hyped and others having no reception but all fundamentally being the same but slightly tweaked, my wallet needs to be clutched with an iron grip to prevent needless spending it or I'm cooked

@@everydaysamething Exactly, I can relate to your words. I myself try to promote a more sensible way of spending - while keeping up the possibility of trying out new things.
Luckily, where I live, the second-hand market is thriving, so all the parts that I'm not in love with anymore can find new, loving owners. :) This way I get back a fair amount of my money and other people can try said parts for a fair price.
I hate wasting money and resources, but this seems a viable way to try and learn one's personal preferences. :)
