Quinnjamin10 4 years late, but I’m the same. I feel like I can confidently say I’ll own one st some point, rather than just go “I’d love to own one, but probably never will.”, and that’s the best part about it, or one of them, at least.
Just recently bought a 2006 Elise S in red :) I daily it lol. It attracts soooo much attention (which can be offputting tbh). It's basically a local tourist attraction.
I'm 21 and drove an Elise S1 for a couple of months as a daily. Absolute dream of a car. And people saying it needs a K20 swap and blablabla have never driven an Elise as a daily. The 1.8L Rover engine has a lot of torque in low rpm's wich makes it very nice to drive in an everyday situation. No matter what gear you're in, you just floor the throttle and off you go. It doesn't need a million hp at 9000rpm. It's so nice to drive on the street as is. I sold it because it was too small for me and my girlfriend, still regret it. I miss it everytime I drive my BMW or any other car for that matter. Nothing within that price range can replace the feeling of an Elise.
I've had my k20 for a year now and love every minute of it. Not a daily drive though. Weekends and holidays. Never thinking of selling. Too much fun and s head turner
I owned the ex-demo S1 111S from Stratton motor Co. back in the early 2000s and used it as my daily 50 mile round trip car for a year (even in snow). I now have the S2 111R and that old smile is back on my face, with interest 😍
Quite an accurate review I have a 120bhp k series S2, yes it feels slightly underpowered but the driving experience is utterly sensational. He is also right about you and the car becoming one, it sounds cheesy, but until you drive one you won't understand.
I've had an Elise as a daily before here in the U.S. and basically it's a horribly impractical and uncomfortable tiny car for a daily...but that being said, the amount of looks you get in it is equivalent to that of a legitimate super car. So it's definitely still fun and unique.
It's only uncomfortable if your ass doesn't fit in the seats. Otherwise it's great! Driving position couldn't be better. Getting out is laughable even 3 years after I bought it, but who cares if you look sophisticated exiting your car. Oh wait, I have a sneaking suspicion the owner in the video cares, or he would have taken off his cool glasses to do the interview.
I can attest to this! I’ve got tons of reactions videos of my Exige S on my channel... the amount of people that think it’s a McLaren is pretty funny 😎😆
I may sound like Mr. Sensible but I read somewhere that they can achieve 50mpg on a combined cycle. So I guess it's not too bad as a daily driver. If you drive sensibly (enjoying the momentum the car can sustain rather than being too aggressive) then the Elise is an unconventional blend of performance and economy.
@ratcat if you need your garage free, then you sell it, but how hard, how hard, how damn hard to let go, I'm right living this nightmare sitting between these 2 chairs.
awesome guy to showcase his passion to his ride. the way he describe it you know he is sharing his love for his ride where most car lovers would do the same for their ride in every episode... thanks for sharing ... really excited to see so many awesome car lovers and their awesome ride tuned and personalized to be their own .... Would definitely love to see more coming !
Have my '05 Elise R since a few days. Usually using a 992 4S coupe and a S8 as daily, but I can't stop driving the Elise. Even with the Toyo semi slicks it's a great ride. And even in a (more or less) business outfit you can drive the Elise daily.
Great description of what its like to own and drive one of these special sports cars. The exhaust sounds great...maybe I should get something similar for my Exige?
Guy Fawkes did you just deny that corvettes are recalled all the time? lol wtf? there some of the cheapest built cars in the world. and are usually recalled 15 minutes within being released lmao
Guy Fawkes um... yeah but GM have mass recalls like every 3 months. some issues of which have killed people. Yeah Porsche recalled their GT3's but they did the right thing and replaced everyone's entire engine for free. GM and Chevy have recalls for recalls. They are a shitty company with shitty quality. and maybe if you learned how to spell people wouldn't think you're an ass. And last time I checked, Mclaren hasn't recalled a car in any recent year. Last car to get recalled was the 12C back in 2010-11. And at least when supercars leave the factory, they have good fit and finish so its ok if one or two things doesnt work right because its a fucking supercar. Theyre not supposed to work right. Chevy is a mass market car that continually gets recalled because they're continually shit. Why do you think they're the laughing stock of the automotive industry.
Damn!! I want one. İ am a porsche addict, I own a 930 911, 1998 mercedes slk, and a Truimph tr7 and i just realised how much i love little roadster cars. Now i think Lotus elise is the ultimate roadster car unless you are a little bit richer to buy an exige =)
Ha! The first Lotus I looked at was Krypton Green with the red leather, it was so over the top ridiculous I loved it, but it sold and I eventually got a plain jane silver Exige. But I always loved the Exige body lines anyways. Anyways they are fantastic cars if you like that sort of thing.
I love the Lotus 111 and id have one in a heartbeat, but id have a Honda K-series ready and waiting to replace that boring Toyota Yaris motor. Supercharger or not, the Honda K-series revs past 8k rpm and can make up to 220hp all with NA goodness. It would be even better to swap in a Honda F20c though. 247 NA hp with a 9200rpm redline. It would be like driving an F1 car, with all that happening behind your head lol Not to mention a Honda sourced 6MT. Because theres nothing that compares to a Honda Manual.
Audiwan Kenobi yes they did! Which is why theyre 10 times better than the Mono, Xbow, caterham, and others. For some reason, these road going go cart companies (and the Brittish in general) have a strange fettish for Ford Cosworth. Which is sad. Nothing against Ford or Cosworth, the specs and performance are there, just not the refinement and reliability. I know your kind of partial to the Ford Mustang.
Brad Riley Ya know. That got me on a really interesting train of thought. With a Honda K or F series, youre making similar Torque to the Original 1.8 liter SC Toyota 2zz but with smoother/more instant power delivery, more power, and higher redline. But with a Nissan SR20 youd have a turbo giving you alot more Torque (like nearly double) with a sacrifice in power delivery because of turbo lag, as well as lower redline. Im wondering though, in a car this damn light, would the extra torque launch it like nothing ever seen before, or would it just burn tires? Lol. I know alot of people really love Nissan because of all the performance cars and things, but Honda does some incredible engineering too. They really know how to make some unbelieveable drivetrains and performance tech, they just dont make a lot of performance cars. As a result, they get badmouthed alot and its really not fair or true.
The Toyota engine that came in the federal (US) version is pretty good. For less then the cost of doing a K swap you can supercharge and get 300-350HP at the wheels with plenty of torque for the weight. Plus you retain all original emissions and dash usage. The K series is a nice motor, no doubt. But the torque of a supercharged motor and OEM functionality for the same price is also very appealing. I have 240 foot pounds of torque and it's soooo easy to drive around town.
The Toyota engine isn't boring. I have the engine in my 01 celica gt-s with a red line of 8300 rpm. This motor also has the VVTLi with lift, Toyota's version of vtec that has more kick to it in my opinion. Great motor, great sound and great power for a 1.8L.
Yeah, well whatever rows your boat right? I would had bought a AE86 if I could, at his situation. Because Im abit mad like that, with the AE86's. And that glorious 4A-GE engine.
Times like this I wish used cars were as cheap here in the US as they are elsewhere. Kelly Blue Book value levels are too high, ex: $15,000 for a 2015 NA focus SE 2.0l I4. So a Lotus is nearly impossible without massive funds here, which is a shame since the only two I've seen on the street here looked like fun.
£10,000 upwards here in UK for a series 1 Elise fast becoming collectable. Paid £15,000 for my 1999 series 1 in mint condition 65000 on the clock. Love it
Does it always pour everywhere in the UK? I live in California and we don't have the same weather in the south as those folks up north do. I assume it's the same over there.
Shinji Ikari It's not that bad to be honest. It just feels bad. Basically we have 2 months of sun, then a whole month of rainy damp weather. It just feels like it never stops :p I guess it rains a 1/3 of the time?
I think one of these with the 2zz-ge and it blitz supercharger would be pretty sweet. Not that this one isn't, Rover K-series are pretty awesome as well.
Tyler Raber Exactly, I also looked into driving an elise, and compared to other cars they arent that expensive. I could afford the car, the insurance and the gas money, but the problem with elises is Repair costst. If anything mayor or some minor parts are damaged, the part prices will kill you
When I've sold my bike I should have about 2k to buy a car, thinking about an RX8 or the MR2 Turbo. These are the only cars which are cheap on insurance and fast which I can find, get my first years NCB next month. Still looking for fast cars which are cheap on insurance though.
I found a few of these online because now I want one, one for £10k but it was top spec and had the start stop button on the gear stick....because race car

Honestly, my realistic dream car is a Lotus Elise. This guy knows what's up.

Ok so mind adding Jaguar F-Type & Maserati Gran Turismo V8's to that dream car list... 😎 👍
Did you get one Quinn 7 years later!?
That's a factory color?... amazing

apparently the Opel does :-)
What did you do for a living at 21?
I owned the ex-demo S1 111S from Stratton motor Co. back in the early 2000s and used it as my daily 50 mile round trip car for a year (even in snow). I now have the S2 111R and that old smile is back on my face, with interest 😍
What an articulate dude. Exhaust sounds great too. Good on him.
Great video, of a beautiful car, being driven right, by a guy who really cares about it. What more can be said?
I have an S2 111R and the word "magical" sums it up beautifully 😎
Quite an accurate review I have a 120bhp k series S2, yes it feels slightly underpowered but the driving experience is utterly sensational. He is also right about you and the car becoming one, it sounds cheesy, but until you drive one you won't understand.

I now own this very car, love it....!
About to talk to the trader! What made you sell her?? I’m considering part exing my 911 9964s
This guy drives a Lotus Elise S2 meanwhile, I've still got to borrow my dad's Honda Pilot to get to work *sigh*
The struggle is real 😕
1st world problems *sigh*
it's better than a 1990 pontiac bonneville
dude they cost as much as a new civic....
Falconshuffle24 bro same
I love the fact that the lotus is mostly mechanical and no assistance! :) more car should be like this
I may sound like Mr.
You're killing me! I was in love with Lotus's cars before, now it's worse! Cheers!
ratcat17 I want one more than ever! Sorry for the ambiguity...
@ratcat if you need your garage free, then you sell it, but how hard, how hard, how damn hard to let go, I'm right living this nightmare sitting between these 2 chairs.
a fan of how these videos are put together
Can not wait to get the Larini Clubsport fitted to mine after watching this!!!
Wow, this car is really stunning. The styling of a proper sports car, aggressive and sharp, I love it!
Love the scratches on the wheels, and the rusty wheel nuts!
one of the best looking car ..
Said very very few people.
ExquisiteTeeth i would take it over F430 n_n
@@rainofthepast yeah i agree, in fact this car is more reliable than the f430. suitable for daily driving.
awesome guy to showcase his passion to his ride. the way he describe it

thanks for sharing ... really excited to see so many awesome car lovers and their awesome ride tuned and personalized to be their own ....

The engine in it is from an MGF, I have the VVC in my MGF and its brilliant
everytiem a car guy shows his car i want exact his car^^

I have a 2002 Elise mk2 and it is the best handling car for the Isle of Man TT circuit....where I live....I'm one lucky Bastard ....IMHO
You are lol. No speed limits either.
I took my 106 race car over there, lots of fun.
My wife and I have 4 cars and the Elise is the daily with a 2bular exhaust, Love it.
I need this car in my life.
You sir, are completely mental. Love it!
That sound is amazing
Ata boy, this channel is awsome
I've wanted an elise for so long but unfortunately they're extremely expensive here in the U.S.
Guy Fawkes and yet they keep on being recalled, and recalled, and recalled.
Guy Fawkes did you just deny that corvettes are recalled all the time? lol wtf? there some of the cheapest built cars in the world. and are usually recalled 15 minutes within being released lmao
Guy Fawkes XD you mean recall central? chevy calls you by your name because youre dropping your car off for recalls so much

Great video, loving the colour although yellow will always be the best. Cant beat the Larni (y)
Great video! I love the Elise...

Really nice car, love a car with a story
I just bought an E46 330i. Does that mean I have to buy an Elise in a few years too?
S2 YEH
Clarkson voice: "Wow, how do I want to invite this guy to dinner!"
I've known people who daily drove motorcycles, so the Elise is pretty much luxury compared to that.
I would've kept the E46, I'm not a huge fan of Lotus. Our upgrade to an E92 M3, you can find really inexpensive ones with very few miles.
Yeah, well whatever rows your boat right? I would had bought a AE86 if I could, at his situation. Because Im abit mad like that, with the AE86's. And that glorious 4A-GE engine.
E92 M3 costs much more in tyres, fuel and service than the E46 or Lotus.
I always liked these cars.
love these cars
What a beatyful story :,)
Great video

With big balls...

It's fine tbh depending on the tires that you run, AD07's and youll be fine :P
I use an 08 Triumph Daytona as my daily.
Always liked the Elise. Lovely car. Just wish I could fit in it. :p
I know what you mean dude, trying to get in this car with the roof on is impossible
I think one of these with the 2zz-ge and it blitz supercharger would be pretty sweet. Not that this one isn't, Rover K-series are pretty awesome as well.
"I am a driving god" Richard Hammond
had to read the title multiple times
Using an Elise as a daily is crazy lol
It's mileage isn't bad.
Aces High no but just imagine the cost when you break something.
Tyler Raber
Exactly,
I also looked into driving an elise, and compared to other cars they arent that expensive.
I could afford the car, the insurance and the gas money, but the problem with elises is Repair costst.

Tyler Raber Clearly, this guy is loaded anyway. You spend a good portion of your life driving, may as well enjoy it.
Try owning a motorbike :p
Who said that you can't use a Sports car for a daily drive?
I love this car, I have the same
At the end of the day he's still ginger...
At the end of the day ravens suck
Scott C mate 😂😂😂
well the elise was never a looker, but it IS a driver's car
Crap how everyone thinks that engine is shit in the mg zr/zs but yet loves them in the lotus they was a good engine if you looked after them
When I've sold my bike I should have about 2k to buy a car, thinking about an RX8 or the MR2 Turbo. These are the only cars which are cheap on insurance and fast which I can find, get my first years NCB next month.
Still looking for fast cars which are cheap on insurance though.
lovely car. and the colour, uhh. the wheels could be an inch bigger though :B
lovely exhaust noise, doesn't have that typical small displacement 4-cyclinder farting sound
Thats a pretty mg tf
I like this car but I do wonder whether it is now broken.
why ? reliability of these is immense other than the chassi a lot of it is toyota running gear
@@shugthehornyhaggis In the case of this car its Rover parts. The point stands though.
111r is the one to have.
How much is this car??
Not much i found out. Cheaper than alot of supercars in the world
You can get one for $30k in AUS
they are over 30k on carsales
dont sit on the car, you gonna crack the fiberglass.
he should do commentaries haha.
I found a few of these online because now I want one, one for £10k but it was top spec and had the start stop button on the gear stick....because race car

Why would you sit on a car..
Still can get that, especially if you're a petrolhead
you have to do one of these on a r32 GTR
He's insane to daily this thing... Mad respect
I dunno about a daily driver, the seats are pretty damn uncomfortable.
I respect his decision of trading his E46 for a Lotus, but if it was me I rather keep the Bimmer than the Lotus. Those lotus look like toys car.
Those glasses tho
Better than an S2K.
this car has a rover engine in it. POC! thank god for Maidstone for putting a k24 in a Elise or an Exige
a yobo wearing yobo wear with a yobo number plate. heh
