- Starring your favorite dobro player! We are so thankful to have Emmett in our band, and he does such a wonderful job on this Del McCoury song! "I Feel the Blues Moving In" definitely has more of a bluegrassy feel to it. Hope y'all enjoy!
We get a lot of questions about the Scheerhorn dobro, so here is Emmett kind of explaining what it is • Let's talk about Chris...
And for all of y'all interested in the gear, he uses Sammy Shelor finger picks, Blue Chip thumb pick, Ron Tipton bar, D'Addario XT resophonic guitar strings and a Charlie's Slide Pro capo. His leather strap was actually custom-made by his brother-in-law, although he uses a Levy's strap on his Byrl.
If you're inspired to buy a dobro, Emmett says Recording King make a decent sounding one at low cost (you might find it called a resonator) and, to learn online, he recommends anything by Rob Ickes or Mike Witcher.

Emmett is one of the best dobro players I've ever heard, and his voice has that "high lonesome" sound that is perfect for Bluegrass or Ole Time music.

Take a haunting driving minor key melody, add poignant lyrics, throw in Emmett's high lonesome vocals and stellar dobro licks, mix with the girls' sweet harmonizations and virtuoso instrumental accompaniments, and what have you got? The recipe for one of the Petersen's finest RUclips LIVE performances ever. Outstanding.

Emmet is such an effin beast with his solos in literally every song. He really has a feel for making use of and extending the melody in his solos. Love it

Matt is primarily a rhythum guitarist, and a good one that is a backbone to most instrumentals. It is cool to see him get to play solos. It bugs me that mics do not seem to pick up guitar solos better. They sound anemic when a dreadnought size like Matt plays is actually very loud.
@@andronikostheophilos I think you're right - Matt plays his part really well and is excellent supporting the group. I do think there are moments when Matt shows some real flair (for me his solo in Gentle on My Mind stands out) and as much as I would like to see more of this it's probably more important for the group that he carries on with these solid performances.

One day I was surfing around RUclips listening to cover bands and the algorithm put Jolene by the "Petersens" in my feed. I clicked on it and it was like this door opened. Now when a new video shows up I drop what I'm doing. The talent bench strength of this group is amazing.
