My great grandmother used to sing this to me as a baby. I never knew Bruce did a cover. This has me weeping like a baby right now even though I'm pushing 40 I miss her so much.

My dad used to sing this to me when I was little and bounce me on his knee. He's been gone a long time now and I sing this to my son and daughter now the same way. It's a very bittersweet memory.
Mine too, he'd cross his leg over his knee and set me on his foot and bounce me. He'd sing 'pony boy, pony boy, won't you be my pony boy, don't say no, here we go, ride away we with me! Giddy up Giddy up Giddy up WHOA, my po-nyyyyy boy' and he'd bounce me way up in the air when he said whoa. I do that with my kids now and they love it like I loved it.
I sang this to my son...now I sing to my grandson..& they both love the song
I'm 70 years old and I remember this from my childhood! 😂 My sister was 10 years younger than me, so maybe I remember it from her. Nevertheless, it just came to mind today, out of the blue sky! So I was looking to see if I could find the rest of the lyrics, and son of a gun, here's a Bruce Springsteen version of it?!?! What the heck! I had an Italian aunt and thought maybe it had come from her. As she introduced us to all kinds of little ditties. Her and a whole lot of southern relatives.

I agree that Bruce is a great songwriter, but he didn’t write this song. It was originally written for Ada Jones in 1909.
How versatile Bruce is.. this is a cute song with just his voice, hardly any music..

A great friend bought me the human touch tape as a present. Sadly she was killed by a drunk driver as she was walking home from college. When I play this song even years later I can still see her sparkling smile and in the wind I can hear her voice. I bought two tickets for the human touch concert that i was going to surprise her with which I still have. I can still see her wonderful smile and can hear her voice in the wind. I'll see you down the road and i miss you terribly.
