On Sunday past in Toronto (November 3, 2024) Bruce introduced this song mid-way through the show as a “prayer for my country”. On Wednesday (November 6, 2024) he opened the show with this one and introduced it as a “FIGHTING prayer for my country”. So subtle but powerful in his message. This man can bring me to tears of both joy and sadness like no other.
My sister was there. Bruce being the hero he is always speaks to the moment. This is giving me chills. And a bit teary after Tuesday night. America deserves better than a criminal and abuser in the White House!
I work in that diner, lol. And my boss is in the video too, sitting next to the window looking out. Bruce still comes in: he was there on Father's Day with his son..and was there the other day too.
This Boss tune helped get us through the dark George W. Bush years and now it should help us again with what we face over the next four. Thank you Bruce for imagining an America for everyone.
My sister was at the show in Toronto. The first show after the election. This led off the set. Bruce always speaks to the moment. And why go home?!! After Tuesday night, why waste four years living in Trump's America? I've been to New Jersey and I like New Jersey. But the rural areas of NJ are not much different than where I live now. In Nova Scotia. Come to the Maritimes, Bruce! You and Patti and Jessica will feel right at home!
My father said "Son, we're lucky in this town, It's a beautiful place to be born. It just wraps its arms around you, Nobody crowds you and nobody goes it alone”
Springsteen is a genious, you give him a pencil and paper and ask him to write a song, he writes a masterpiece instead. The man is extremely intelligent, you can even tell just by looking at his lyrics on a sheet of pare. He does something that nobody in todays "music' does. He relates his songs to everyday people in general. While other clowns will "sing" about hitting up 50 different men and women in one sitting, Springsteen touches the lives of real people just trying to live their lives.
So true; it seems though, even though he is an ultra-rich musician, he remembers, or retains, what motivates a regular guy and a regular girl to try to make their way through life: their fears, their hopes, their plans, their aspirations. He is a gift to this country, and really this whole world, and we should honor that.
Bruce Springsteen is one of the greatest rock ' n ' roll musician ever to have for generations. After he is gone it will be very hard to find a replacement in equal measure as Bruce. He transcends from all generations the old and young black and white all over the world. He is a special man.
I’ve had some serious drug and alcohol issues in the past. The last time I was in the hospital/rehab (2013) I was lucky enough to have a music therapy class. The teacher would bring in songs with the lyrics and ask what kind of connection we got from it. I stopped him after one of the classes and asked him if he knew this song...he didn’t...but told me he’d look into it and if the lyrics seemed to pertain to everybody’s situation, he’d bring it in. I IMMEDIATELY wrote out the song word for word and gave it to him. He laughed and asked how I got it down so fast...”I’m sort of a big Springsteen fan” (understatement of the fucking century). The next day he came in with it and I obviously had to explain why it meant so much to me. The song is about starting over, the “long walk” can be literal or figurative, but in my mind it meant the rest of my life until I was at peace again. Of course, the line “everybody has a reason to begin again”, speaks for itself. It was time for change and this song helped me every step of the way. It still does.
I'm going through it now, yes I am a Native JERSEY BOY and grew up down the SHORE. His MUSIC and the INCREDIBLE man himself have been one of my BEST FRIENDS for my whole LIFE. Been a BRUCE but since 1975... I wish you nothing but HAPPINESS , JOY, FRIENDSHIP, and PEACE and LOVE... God BLESS, Tom NJ ✌🤝🍀💚🍀🎸🎷❤🏖🙏🙏😎
I've just listened again and with the video footage as well, it seems to be a metaphor for Bruce's depression and his poignant and lovely and manly message to Patti. And as always with Bruce, the journey back to America. Such a wonderfully honest and deeply clever songwriter..bring on the Nobel prize.
BTT, Thanks, guy! You can make it and will be better, stronger, more insightful and compassionate from the ordeal. The purest steel comes from the hottest fires and heaviest hammers.
Ive been a fan of Bruce for over 40yrs and his songs got me through som rough times in my life! From lossing my father in 2017 and my divorce! And his music and words kept me moving forward to accept life and my failures and learn from them and keep moving forward!!
I hardly drink anymore... But I'll have a drink with this fella who wrote my life in one song when I was 12....And continued to comment on my journey up until now... Maybe I can convince him to have a bong instead...
Bruce is a striking example of a "Spiritual Being" doing, creating and giving back to the Planet; nothing but good vibrations, love and compassion. He's a True Light of Hope in a World of Narcissistic behavior and a willingness of ppl to easily hurt others. Thanks so much Bruce for being You!
This man.....has been the legend of transcendence and hope through his vision of grit and determination..he has the ability to lift us up from the mean streets to a better place of faith...LOVE you Bruce, and THANK you !!!
Bruce said, " This one is for my country" before he sang this song in Philadelphia in September. It made me cry. I know where he stands politically. I was expecting him to comment on the election; he's done it before. But he didn't. He played so many of the songs that people know by heart back to back and we sang and danced together for a long time before he slowed it down. I think that the idea was to give people a unifying experience and not remind us of the divisions. It was beautiful.
*Well said*👏🏼 "The flag flyin' over the courthouse Means certain things are set in stone. Who we are, what we'll do and what we won't" It's gonna be a long walk home

Bruce Springsteen it should be against the law for a man to have that much talent have that much animal magnetism. A girl could fall in love with those eyes. You are soooooo bad!!!
I love the "Magic" record, to me one of the best - if not the best - record of Springsteen along with The Rising. This song is pure gold, and although Bruce's catalog is huge, I miss these songs on his live concerts.
Unlike today's artists, who have to sell sensuality to be successful. Musician, artist, legend... Like Bruce, we simply toast with generality, purity and a lot of talent. It's a great pleasure to listen to such great music!
THIS DEEPLY SPIRITUAL AND DEEPLY RASPING VOICE, HAS SEEMED TO BECOME THE VERY SOUND THAT YOU SUB AND CONSCIOUSLY EQUATE WITH BEING AMERICAN!!! LIKE A GROWLING, RASPING LULLABY OF ALL AND SUBTLE TONES AS WELL. NO LONGER CAN THINK OF AMERICA WITHOUT THINKING OF HIS VOICE. AMAZING.
When so much commercial radio (or what's left of it) still can't stop playing "Dancing in the Dark", so much of Springsteen's more recent work gets ignored, like this song. I don't know where people these days get their music, but I just hope this one is on some playlists. It is a classic.
I'm English and I have liked Bruce Springsteen for many years. He is very American and obviously he loves his country which I think is great. This is one of my favourite along with Radio nowhere. Thank you Bruce. Keep them coming
