Thanks Brian! I recently introduced my 17 year old to this awesome sport. He is loving it so far. It teaches him patience, appreciation for nature, and the fine art of fly fishing, plus I get to spend some quality time with my boy. We enjoy these videos and it covers the essentials so well. Great job!
Love this guy. Straight to the point and tells it how it is. Bought my wife a $190 Redington combo and she out-fished the guys with $500+ rods and $300+ reels 😂😄
Brian I have been making a journal (more of a notebook) on all these episodes. I dont think if taken better notes in class even. Your so informational and I love the quality of your vids. Just want to say thank you from a new fly fisherman

Great list 👍. When I started fishing dries I wasn’t using floatant - I was so frustrated and totally oblivious to the importance of floatant - but I learned quickly

Mario, we have many fly tying tutorials here on the channel. Also, coming soon is a series called "Getting Started in Fly Tying". Look around on our channel and stay tuned. Thanks
Just tuned into the channel a few days ago to start fly fishing where I live in the high country in Colorado, but just realized your shop is literally 15 minutes from where i grew up on Hard rd in Dublin. Right on! Will be supporting the shop. Thanks for being here and teaching!
Nice tutorial sir, I use to remember seeing guys whipping their poles back and forth when I was little fishing with my dad (who always bait fished) but did not understand the purpose. Once I had gotten older I watched at a stream in Colorado an older gentlemen while fishing myself (not catching anything) pull in trout after trout!! I decided to ask him what kind of bait he was using and he looked at me confused and broke it down to me how fly fishing worked and him telling me "Fly fishing is like fishing with a tie and dinner jacket on because not everybody can attend the party". That's always stuck with me and because of your vids I'm learning everyday.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
At a remote location, (no ER) around, I had to push and pull a non-crushed barb thru my own hand. NOT for the faint of heart. Most if not all of my fly fishing hook barbs are crushed.
I’m just interested in fly fishing and I think I’m happy to find Brian and his fly-class! He’s definitely oriented on your budget and to teach you easy this super beautiful fishing method! THANK YOU SIR!
Thanks for simplifying things. Jargon (like "strike indicator") is one thing that has put me off of fly fishing, just like many of the other things you've pointed out in this series. I would add nippers = clippers and hemostat = pliers.
I'm not sure how I even arrived here but now I've committed to watching all the episodes haha! Fly fishing has always been something I wanted to try sooo.
I like the no nonsense en friendly advice! Going for my first time flyfishing next week after 40 years of fishing with a spinning rod. It's going to be fun and really new. Hope I don't kill to many flies.....
I´m wondering if the split shot especially (maybe also the bobber) wouldn't get in the way of what you talked about in the "leader" video. Where you pair certain fly with certain leader. It seems to me to get in the way of this. Do you change leaders or flies based on if you need split shots ? Thanks for your wisdom and epic videos !!

We were off Cape Cod landing haddock, my 10yo daughter got the hook stuck in her little finger. We had to cut the hook and push it through. Yes, she screamed but, was back fishing 5 min later.
Great video with sound advice. I use my Hemostats or Forceps for loads of things, not just for unhooking fish. Half decent clippers are also so valuable. Floatant and sinkant for flies and leader is also very useful. I wear glasses so haven't bought polarised glasses, which makes no sense. So when I get my next pair of glasses, I'm going to get a spare pair of polarised prescription ones.
thoughts on waders. I also hunt, and am planning on doing fall/winter fishing at some point (OHIO). I have 5mm neoprene waders, but I am reading some are saying to not go with that since may be too heavy and warm?
Thanks for checking but surely a question best suited for the folks at the shop. Send them an e-mail and they will be happy to help. Might be a delay with being closed but they will get to you.
Great videos. Where I'm from in south carolina there are not alot of people that fly fish to get information from to learn first hand. There seems to be a lack of knowledge or people are just to lazy to learn that you can catch fish on more than just a baitcaster or spinning reel and it be just as or more exciting. I've already learned so much from this series of videos. Thanks for bridging that gap. Ready to get out there.

I've been fishing for uhhmm about 35 adult years plus the childhood years. In all that time I have only had one near brush with a hook.... and I have never fly fished .... makes me wonder why I am getting into this.
Flatten those barbs: When I went to the hospital to get one removed they pushed it through the other side, cut off the barb and pulled it back out the way it went in. So now I do the same thing (you'd think I'd learn). Just use a little ICE to numb the spot and use your handy hemostats to push it thru. If you're worried about infection, just drink another beer.
