    Hey design champs! There is a run-down shed on my property that I am going to renovate into a tiny house over the next thirty days (hopefully). I'm going to put it on airbnb and see if we can get some guests! If you want to follow along with me on the journey i'm going to make a video about it everyday for the next 30 days! Today I did all the trim on the house to get ready for the lap siding!

      @@robertlyall as much as I'd love to see this, I'd love for Zimri to rest. I have once worked a whole month with no days off, and I was dead. And that's without recording the work, editing, posting videos and responding to comments. What he's doing is incredibly taxing

    A laser level would let you mark lines across two sides to the far corners, then wrap around the house. Not sure if you have access to one.

      Aren't there any "siding tape" with marks you can just stick onto the corners?

    Zimri! Before you cover up all of your vapor barriers with siding, I would tape all the seams with insulating tape so that it really creates a barrier! With them just stapled and patched together it probably won’t perform as well as it could potentially :)

    • @zimrimayfield
      @zimrimayfield  2 года назад

      Hey Zach! I need to read up a bit more on this, but I was under the impression that house wrap cannot work as a vapor barrier? it's my general belief that it's better to ere on the side of more airflow, as trying to create vapor or air barriers quite often causes more damage because water inevitably cannot dry out. But there is a difference of opinion on the subject especially in crawl spaces and attics. Try to stop all water from entering, or have plenty of air flow so things can dry out quickly? I'm just using the house wrap as a last line of defense against leaks. So the water can run down and out behind the siding if it does get in there : ) I actually think it's higher risk to try to tighten things up on this particular build, of course I could be wrong : p thank you man!

    • @zachwinton7358
      @zachwinton7358 2 года назад

      @@zimrimayfield oo you have a point there. It depends what kind of wrap you have on there. Some brands combine the VB with the house wrap so you don’t have to install twice. I just finished an internship with a residential architecture firm based in Dallas, and they recommend installing a VB on the outside of the sheathing, similar to what you’ve done here. In terms of airflow, the regular opening of a door and windows should be enough to allow fresh air to circulate and moist air to escape. I would be more concerned about humidity entering rather than being let out. Either way, I would definitely make sure at least your top and side seams are taped if they are visible! Water could potentially find its way down the top of that little patch you have on there. And idk how strict they are down there with inspections and whatnot (coming from PA) but be sure you’re keeping up with code just so you don’t run into any issues later on!

    • @zimrimayfield
      @zimrimayfield  2 года назад +2

      Yeah : ) one of the reasons is you have to tape off windows and doors, and worry about overspray. You also have to try to get into cracks and use ladders etc. If you lay all the pieces out on a tarp before hand you don't have to worry about any of that, so makes it a bit easier :))
