Looks beautiful! a little tip I pass along to anyone using whit chalk paint. First do two coats of bin shellac base primer, it fills in the wood grain and then you dont have to do as many coats of chalk paint to get good coverage. Also gives what ever you put on top of it better adhesion. Saves you time and money.
I painted my kitchen cabinets 2 years ago also and I used a kilz primer and GF milk paint. They look beautiful and still brand new, but the white is slightly yellowed. No chips etc. I am now painting my bedroom furniture and discovered BIN and I am in love. This stuff is the truth!
100% agreed. Any paint applied to pre-finished/stained wood will need it (cabinets, doors, trim). I used Zinsser BIN shellack... scuff the surface to break the sheen and two coats primer, then light sand before applying two top coats of your paint. BIN goes on super thin, but covers amazing and dries in 15 minutes, so paint fast to keep a wet edge! Not cheap at ~$75 a gallon, but worth every penny. I too also put a clear protector coat on mine, two coats of satin to hopefully make the surface scratch resistant, especially in areas like the handles that get way more abuse.
I’m so glad I found your video! My husband and I just bought a house that needs some TLC. I’ve watched numerous videos on painting kitchen cabinets, but you’re the first to mention using floor lacquer to seal them.
Thank you so much for this video!!! Long term updates are so rare, and definitely not with the detail you provided and helpful commentary! There really are no words for the gratitude I have for this video, lol. Really happy to hear that not sanding didn't give you a problem, especially with heavy use. It looks great, and I'm happy for you that you still love it. That's such a great feeling.
Thank you for the inspiration. Today is the day....im chalk painting my kitchen cabinets. Really really glad you made this video. UPDATE TO MY COMMENT ABOVE OMG my cabinets look fantastic! I used your method. I cleaned my cabinets with vinegar and warm water n little dish soap. 2 coats chalk white paint...my cabinets were cream. Drys fast so 2 coats polyurethane followed shortly. In 2 sessions of painting over 2 days we were finished. PS i did not use Anne Sloan. Not necessary. Used semi gloss water based paint and ordered chalk paint calcium carbonate additive from Amazon. Combined tgec2 following directions....you save so much. Cabinets are awesome.
Sweet lady... thank you for sharing to the RUclips world that a home that is lived in get dirty. 😛 is so refreshing to see that a house does not have to look like a show home and can still look inviting. 😍
I just wanted to say thank you for posting this I love that you did this cuz I haven't seen anyone show a time span to show how it holds up especially with chalk paint.
I'm glad I watched this. We're getting ready to paint ours and I was dreading sanding them. And yes, after two years of wear and tear they look great. Thank you
I use "simple green" to clean safely. The Magic Eraser removes the paint little by little. That's why you're seeing the grain showing through. I damaged my white doors with that sponge .
WOW! So impressed with your update. Just called HD paint department to see if chalk paint would work for my kitchen. This guy has been a painter for decades and is from the old school and only recommends hi gloss, semi-gloss or satin enamel paint. My sister told me that chalk paint is horrible as it chips off like crazy. I LOVE the idea of using a flooring top coat to protect the finish. Now, I'm sure I'll use the chalk paint and will be very happy with the results. THANK YOU FOR TAKING TIME TO SHARE THIS VALUABLE INFORMATION!!!
Linda Sellers chalk paint is awesome, it just depends on what you want to do with it! It will totally cover and last if you want it to or if you want to go for the chippy look, there’s ways to do that! It’s so versatile. Good luck!
Great video. Thanks for updating us. What we did with our dark oak cabinets was to degrease with tsp and rinse rinse rinse it off and then sand so you don’t drive the grease into the wood. Sand until you think your done and then sand some more. Two coats of primer allowing a full day between coats to dry. Then two coats of an enamel top coat paint allowing at-least 2 or 3 days to dry between coats. Then let cure couple weeks before putting on hardware and installing. Lots of work but you won’t regret it. We just posted on our channel a 2 and half yr update video on our painting results.
This was a great I was searching for painting my kitchen cabinets with chalk paint. I wanted to see if someone else thought to paint kitchen cabinets with chalk paint. I did a desk in chalk paint and I used a krylon lacquer over the chalk paint which I love, but was a little nervous about doing my kitchen. I am so glad you did a update and mentioned the lacquer instead of wax it worked great on my desk so I am defiantly going to use it on my cabinets.. Thank you Thank you for this update!
For kitchen cabinets I first scrub all exposed surfaces with TSP and a handled brush (such as for hand washing dishes), and rinse thoroughly. When cooking grim is removed and everything is well rinsed I check for dents and dings that need to be addressed. Paintable wood fillet or auto bondo always works well for me. If handles and knobs are being replaced and the placement is different fill those holes as necessary. Sand, wipe away dust and paint. Only time I sand is when filler or bondo is utilized. I topcoat with water-based satin or matte polycrylic. It's fast-drying so 2 to 3 coats in one day is doable if I start early. I usually apply a total of 4 to 5 coats for cabinets. Same with furniture and bathroom vanities. Another paint that works well for me is both chalk and clay based. D.I.Y. Paint is very thick and requires fewer coats. Two coats except on the most frequently utilized areas. I apply 3 coats to all drawer fronts and the most frequently utilized doors = under the sink, those covering drinking cups/glasses, dishes, etc. Soap & water clean-up, no fumes, saturated color and awesome colors. The D.I.Y. paint color White Swan is stunning on cabinets, I am using it on all my bathroom vanities. They also offer Tarnished Pearl and Beadboard but White Swan remains a lovely white regardless of the lighting or the age of the finish.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. That was very unselfish of you to give your time. You do an excellent job at this, and I really love the detail you went over. YOU HELPED ME SO MUCH make the right choice.
I have about the same amount of cabinets... A few years ago I sanded for two weeks.. Then primed and sanded and primed again and sanded, then painted 2 coats of white cabinet paint... Now they're all chipped and worn, paint is peeling off... Decided to get new ones when these look ugly but your video inspired me to try it your way. Thanks for this, you've got a great style of presentation in your video.
Thank YOU! This just took away all the hesitations I had - and most importantly, made my decision on mixing pure and old white, as I prefer more WHITE too! SO HELPFUL!!!
Megan, I often toyed with the idea of painting my oak colored kitchen cabinets that are 29 years old but was afraid since I remember my step mother painting hers white many many years ago with less than great results. Now however, after listening to your experience, I think I may do it. Thanks for telling us in detail how you did it and the results. I'm now inspired! Vicky
Decent job if you don't mind the dark showing through and want a more rustic look. If you want a solid finish that will dry tough and not show through, you'll need to use an acrylic or a waterborne alkyd paint. With those, no lacquer required is required but you will need to clean, sand and prime first. These finishes are much more durable though.
Annie Sloan is the best of the best, she is truly the queen of paint. So glad you chose this brand. Note: I have never rewaxed anything I have chalk painted.
This is so helpful. We bought a house 2 years ago that was a flip, and the kitchen was brand new, but the same orangey wood color as your cabinets used to be. I hate it and have wanted to paint them from the beginning. I have used regular paint to paint a bathroom cabinet in the past, and it was a LOT of work, so it's great to know the chalk paint is holding up so well. They look beautiful! I just have to talk my husband into letting me do it ;).
I've been painting distressed furniture for years but never used chalk paint. I always use "eggshell" latex acrylic and it's tough as nails, washes well, and really needs no protective coat. Before painting, I use candle wax on the edges I want distressed & that cuts way down on the sanding.
That is usually what is occurring with these chalk paint projects! Trying to convince the spouses that No, really! We don’t have to sand or prime! Lol good luck Erica! And thank you!
I love that you posted this!!! Thank you!! I did mine in old white and still have yet to seal them. I didn’t want to wax, didn’t dare to clear poly.... so hearing what you did just seal d the deal! Thank you!!!
I did my bathroom vanity a dark gray and it turned out amazing! Then did rustolium chalk paint sealer. I did not sand but wanted to de gloss so I improvised and used fingernail polish remover on a rag and wiped them down followed by rubbing alcohol. Worked great!
I think the cabinets look great. Thanks for the tips about cleaning with a Mr. Clean magic eraser and the tip about using the floor lacquer instead of waxing.
Thanx for this update. Now it is 2020 I wonder how they are holding up. As much as I dread and have tried to find someone to paint my cabinets (which are in great shape) I think after seeing this I will go with the chalk paint. I hate prep and this is the easiest thing you can do and change the whole look of a room!!
I did amy howard and waxed and four years later they look amazing, clean up super easy,,,, the wax hardened and it was amazing, fast forward I am going to do my new oak kitchen .... I dont prep besides cleaning.
Great video on painting cabinets, just want to comment on the magic eraser...It was brought to my attention that they are somewhat like a micro sandpaper, that may be why the edges are worn away. I would not recommend them to clean a chalk painted project unless you want the gradual worn look. Thanks for sharing your process
They look beautiful! My husband said no to painting our cabinets in the kitchen, but that’s ok. Magic erasers are really harsh. They do remove paint. I’ve ruined a wall and so has my MIL.
If I paint my kitchen cabinets I really expect more than two years for all that work. I had my cabinets professionally painted 16 years ago and they still look like new. This is not a good job in my opinion.
Great information about the porosity of chalk paint! I had just finished bookmarking all the DIY sites that spoke glowingly about the stuff and figured I'd give it a try. Seemed too good to be true, and you have explained that it is. Good idea to use the floor lacquer instead.
Great job. There’s always plenty of other ways to do a job but you took a simple path and they turned out great. Really appreciate the fact that you did a follow up and showed warts and all. Great tip about the floor lacquer too. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
This is EXACTLY what I needed. Getting ready to paint mine and all the other videos had me quite discouraged. Thank you so much for something simple 😊🙂😊🙂
I just checked out your 2 Year Chalk Painted Kitchen Cabinet Update. I'm trying to decide which paint to use on my kitchen, and this was helpful. I'll be Subscribing and checking out more of your projects.
For any pure white paint (and some blues), add 1-2 drops of black tint to get rid of the translucent effect and improve coverage. Ceiling paint does not require this step. Thanks for sharing the update on your project!
Jeff Hoopes, I was "telling" her this as I watched the video. LoL. I also discovered years ago it keeps white paint from yellowing, especially if you have gas heat in your home.
Very nice! I have the same cabinets... I love this! I even like the hardware! Thank you for sharing! I am planning on doing my cabinets white and my bedroom furniture.....
Your cabinets look very nice! I went looking for a video that showed how they were after use. I am glad to see it has held up. I am starting mine this weekend.
Lynn thank you! I wasn’t aware of that when I made this video, but luckily I have only used the magic eraser for DEEP cleans. For everyday cleaning I actually use young living’s thieves cleaner and it works great!
Thanks for sharing this, especially your suggestion of not using the wax. I do have a suggestion for you. Using the magic eraser is very abrasive. That’s why the paint has the wood is showing through. I would switch to a sponge or cloth with a mild soap like Murphy’s Oil Soap to keep from scratching through the finish.
The magic eraser is like a mild sandpaper. I use the sanitary wipes for daily cleaning and save the magic eraser for stubborn areas. The magic eraser does turn the color of our paint when I use them on the walls. They even took sharpie off a wood cabinet door 3 years after my son decided to “decorate “ with red and green sharpies. They are amazing but too abrasive for regular use on a painted surface.
The box instructions have a warning to NOT USE ON GLOSSY SURFACES! My daughter used one of those on my glossy countertop and it looked like Dalmation spots! But we have to be honest and say we did ALL the countertops cuz I hated the glossy counters! LoL!
Robin Beveridge Beveridge that’s hilarious and good to know! I mostly use it on stains I can get off or for a deep cleaning. Not a daily cleaner by any means.
Sherri I painted my downstairs bathroom vanity with Annie Sloan’s Napoleonic blue and waxed it with clear wax and it is soooo pretty! Good luck on your chalk paint adventures!!
I really appreciate how you think outside the box when it comes to your projects and do what makes sense to you. Thanks for the cabinet update! I'm subbing. :-)
Thanks so much for this video!! Going to follow your suggestions with the windex, blending old white into the new white, and using floor lacquer rather than wax on my cabinets. Can't wait to get started!
Sarita Lagalwar the old white and pure white mix is the perfect white! I think you’ll be very pleased! Good luck with your cabinets! If you take a picture, please tag me on Instagram @bellandcotton as I’d love to see the results!
Love your cabinets. Getting ready to remodel my entire kitchen. I am using preused cabinets that I plan to paint all white. Thanks for the info. Love it!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this. I am doing this this month. I'm so nervous but I need to just do it. Thank you for the update. It totally brought my anxiety level down.
Boo Radley I totally understand! I’m sure you’ve done your research, but we never want to invest time and money into something that won’t hold up. but chalk paint is amazing! Good luck! I just love mine!
Thank you! I'm a single full-time mom and I have two jobs so doing this is a HUGE investment of time but I feel it is going to be amazingly cathartic. It's seriously the first upgrade that I have done to my home. I cant' wait to start this weekend. Thanks for responding!
THANKS FOR TAKING YOUR TIME DOING DYI USING ANNIE SLOAN CHALK PAINT. I AM GOING TO DO MY CABINETS AS SOON AS I CAN OPEN MY WINDOWS BTW I AM FROM VA BEACH, WENT TO FIRST COLONIAL THXS
3 minutes in and I'm loving your video.I want to.hug you!!!! I got this bright idea a few months ago and you're the best video thus far on the matter🤗🤗🤗 I am.doing this next week 😬😬😬😬. Blessings❤❤
Thank you for your tutorial.. I mixed old world with white and yes 2 coats so far and I’ll be using the acrylic to finish. I finish a bathroom vanity cabinet with cream wax and it’s softer feel but needs touch ups
30 yr pro, just a tip if...using chalk paint you do not sand and TSP is a better cleaner for chalk painting. On shiny surfaces you can use a wipe on de-glosser.
I just came across your video because I am thinking of painting my cabinets and I heard you mention Delightful Digs. Small world... I live in Va Beach too! Thanks for this great tutorial.
Be careful with magic erasers. They are basically very fine sandpaper. It's called melamine foam. They can definitely remove your top coat and the paint over a longer period of time.
From what I've noticed with chalk paint and I've learned my lesson. If you are painting old wood that no longer has a varnish or sheen to it, if you chalk paint right over it (especially if you use white paint) an orange color will come through your white paint. And no matter how many coats you do it will still come up. You would have to put some sort of lacquer on first let it dry or sand then you can paint. My dining room table was my issue. Your cabinets look amazing! Hope my tip can help you for any future project!
Home Sweet Homestead yes, this happened to a friend of mine in older home. The lawyer can raise the grain of the wood. This can happen on any real wood piece of furniture and can be avoided by simply using wax instead. My cabinets are the furthest from real wood so I didn’t have any of these issues! Lol thanks for sharing!
@@MeganBell- Okay, so if the cabinets are not real/solid wood then you shouldn't have an orangey bleed through, right? My kitchen cabinets and bathrooms both are in need of a makeover. I have never painted them before, yet I am sure it is a lot of work! That part I am willing to do. I just want to make sure after all the work that goes into it my cabinets doesn't turn out orangey and all that hard work in vein. Does the floor lacquer look matte or glossy like? I apologize for so many questions. I just want to make sure I am doing it right before I start! Thank you for the video, as you have given me the courage to tackle this job!!😉
Tonya Perry the orange bleed through does not happen often. It is very rare! I’ve painted real wood without it happening, but my friends house was built in the 20s and she had this issue with the original cabinets. If you aren’t sure you could always test a spot. But if they’re not solid wood, you’re totally fine! The laquer from Annie Sloan is almost a satin finish. Mostly matte with a very light pearlescent sheen when light hits it. Good luck!
Yes Tonya Perry if it's not real wood you will be fine. I've painted quite a bit with chalk paint and I e only had a problem when the wood no longer had a sealant on it. You can tell by looking at it. If you ever paint real wood with chalk paint and it doesn't have even the slightest gloss sheen yo it I would just paint it first with a light coat of polyurethane or a wax let it set for a couple days then paint it with the chalk paint. The sheen prevents any bleed through. Just a tip for future reference :)
I painted mine with AS 4 years ago. No sanding. Two coats of the light gray. But they were white to begin with. This is my grandmas house and cabinets are 100 years old. I wish I hadn’t waxed them. It’s a thorn in my side. The ones around the stove has splatters on them but I think the floor lacquer would not have done this. Live and learn right? Other than these few things mine have held up fabulously. Also the ones bitching about sanding have missed the whole point of chalk paint. 💕
Hi! Just wanted to say thanks for sharing! Your cabinets still look great. Unfortunately, when I painted mine there was no chalk paint! "Annie Sloan where were you???!!" The mistake I made was the finish I applied has yellowed so bad! Not even sure what it was now! I will be painting them again, but I think I will have to remove the old finish! You were smart w/ lacquer. I'm not anxious to start😬. Again, thanks for sharing, it gives me great encouragement!
Often times, yellowing is a result of the "tannins" from the wood bleeding through paint, causing the finish to yellow. I had painted our bedroom furniture years ago with an off-white paint, and it turned yellow over the years. I used chalk paint (in a misty green color) over a year ago and it's held up perfectly. Didn't have to sand or prime. No bleed-through. Took three coats to get a perfect solid (non-translucent) finish. I used a clear wax designed for chalk paint as a sealer and it's been perfect.
Thank you for the update. The Magic Eraser takes a very thin layer off of the surface, lightly abrasive. That’s why they clean so well but I’m careful on painted finishes.
Thank you for making this video, i just recently came across the chalk paint method for furniture and looking to do kitchen cabinets and my kitchen table and I always wanted to know how long it was going to last and what it would look like years later so thank you in addition great tip to use the floor lacquer
Stacey Boling I’m so glad! The floor lacquer was such a great choice for me because I don’t want to go back and Wax once a year. Good luck on your chalk paint adventures!
Hi Megan i really loved the video . Im planning to paint kitchen cupboards . And i totally agree with you. You dont still want to do maintenance with wax at later stage. So i would also use the lacquer to coat over. I watched quite an few of videos and everyone is different. Tell me i kind of got lost with the choices of whites. What white would you not use. But otherwise its awesome the videos Kind Regards Shaun Green from South Africa Cape Town
Chalk paint is designed to soak into wood and sand off easily, so it is not going to hold up well. It's fine for low-traffic furniture or distressing, but pros do not recommend it for high-traffic areas like the kitchen. For a long-lasting finish, you have to put in the work. Sand, prime, or both, 2 coats of enamel paint, 2-3 coats of poly or lacquer, and it will last more than 2 years.

@@MeganBell Hi did you use Matt lacquer or gloss lacquer?
I’m so glad I found your video! My husband and I just bought a house that needs some TLC. I’ve watched numerous videos on painting kitchen cabinets, but you’re the first to mention using floor lacquer to seal them.
I swear by it! Also, Annie Sloan renamed it recently to just “laquer”
Ok. I think you just convinced me to paint my kitchen cabinets.

Can you attach a photo of your cabinets.
Teri, did you brush on the poly or could you spray it on?
@@TennesseeKim1 Polyurethane will turn yellow over time. You need to use a polycrylic.

Agree. Magic erasers are pretty much equivalent to an extra fine grit sanding sponge.
I agree, the magic eraser is overkill for this type of job, a damp sponge with a mild cleanser will get food residue and smudges off.
Love Simple Green.
Agreed
Yesss magic erasers romove paint

Annie Sloans floor lacquer Thanks for the tip sounds practical especially on kitchen cabinets..
Thank you, this was so useful. I love that you didn’t sand, and used floor paint to seal. Great tips about cleaning, too.
Thank you for saying so! I wouldn't use the magic erasers unless you have tough stains as they can remove some of the paint over time.
Good idea. A poly or lacquer finish is best for kitchens. Grease collects. That’s why I’m not a fan of open shelving

@@MeganBell Is the rustoleum chalk paint sealer like a wax or a finish lacquer?
Washing with the magic erase pad is abrasive and is removing the paint.
You did a nice job painting. Thanks
This update was so helpful!!!! And it came up randomly so I'm very grateful!
I did amy howard and waxed and four years later they look amazing, clean up super easy,,,, the wax hardened and it was amazing, fast forward I am going to do my new oak kitchen .... I dont prep besides cleaning.
Your cabinets look like a beautiful white pearl sheen. Gorgeous, gorgeous!
I used her chalk paint as well and sealed them with minwax polycrylic..1 yr now and they look amazing
How do you apply the Polycrylic and do you have to sand it? Do you have to sand surface of chalk paint after? How many coats of poly?
@@paigeashmore1720 no sanding. I used a brush and applied 1 coat of poly.
@@cynthiawhitney1318 Why did you not use Annie Sloans lacquer instead of the minwax?
@@julielecklitner9988 because I had some on hand
Has no one thought of using soap and water to clean surfaces?
RIGHT MY MIND IS BLOWN LIKE WTF How can I be THAT advanced to just use soap and water😂😂😂
Dude I soooooo don't was want to sand my cabinets. I'm going to cite you as a reason I didn't sand lol. Hope that works out. I like the lacquer idea.
They are beautiful. You did a great job and inspired me. This was a very informative video. Thanks!
They look beautiful! My husband said no to painting our cabinets in the kitchen, but that’s ok. Magic erasers are really harsh. They do remove paint. I’ve ruined a wall and so has my MIL.
Same here girl my husbad says no to me painting our kitchem cabinets
I've just painted my kitchen cabinets with chalk paint. I hope within two years they are still okay, like yours! They still look great!
If I paint my kitchen cabinets I really expect more than two years for all that work. I had my cabinets professionally painted 16 years ago and they still look like new. This is not a good job in my opinion.
How do you like your cabinets after a year?
They look good from a distance, but that original coming through would drive me crazy!
It is because she is using Magic Erasers to clean with.Thats a huge no-no.
@@mossie1954 agreed. She clearly does not know that Magic Erasers are gradually removing the paint. But she is young and will learn.
The lacquer is amazing and your cabinets are fabulous
Les W thank you! ❤️
Great information about the porosity of chalk paint! I had just finished bookmarking all the DIY sites that spoke glowingly about the stuff and figured I'd give it a try. Seemed too good to be true, and you have explained that it is. Good idea to use the floor lacquer instead.
Thank you for this video! I was wondering how all these hand painted pieces hold up! I'm excited to paint my mom's kitchen cabinets now! :)
Great job. There’s always plenty of other ways to do a job but you took a simple path and they turned out great. Really appreciate the fact that you did a follow up and showed warts and all. Great tip about the floor lacquer too. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you Annie, this was very helpful! I’m planning on doing my kitchen in the next few weeks and this was very helpful and honesty.
For any pure white paint (and some blues), add 1-2 drops of black tint to get rid of the translucent effect and improve coverage. Ceiling paint does not require this step. Thanks for sharing the update on your project!
Jeff Hoopes,
I was "telling" her this as I watched the video. LoL. I also discovered years ago it keeps white paint from yellowing, especially if you have gas heat in your home.
Thanks for your tip Jeff!
What black paint drops, would it be the Annie sloan range? Ratio to the paint? Thanks
I love them they look great! I painted my dinning room table and chairs with this Annie Sloan paint and it is beautiful!!
Patty Liort thank you! I think so too! ❤️
always start with primer saves on top coats
Catherine Garmon this!
What primer do you recommend?
Very helpful. Thank you! I love the slightly worn look. They look great!
I have the same kind of cabinets you did so, sent Daughter to get chalk paint - projects x 10!
Thank you for this update. It's very helpful and informative. I never would have known the color differences and the tip about the floor lacquer.
Helen Moore I’m so glad!! Thank you for the feedback!
Very nice! I have the same cabinets... I love this! I even like the hardware! Thank you for sharing! I am planning on doing my cabinets white and my bedroom furniture.....
Monica Swavel good luck! I think I paint just about everything white! Lol
They came out super nice, I'm impressed, thank you
Glad I found you you saved me some steps for painting my cabinets!
Your cabinets look very nice! I went looking for a video that showed how they were after use. I am glad to see it has held up. I am starting mine this weekend.
Devan Vaughn awesome! Good luck on your project! I’m sure you’ll be pleased!
Beautiful cabinets! I’ve heard that the magic eraser can slowly remove the paint finish over time.
Lynn thank you! I wasn’t aware of that when I made this video, but luckily I have only used the magic eraser for DEEP cleans. For everyday cleaning I actually use young living’s thieves cleaner and it works great!
@@MeganBell if you do use the Magic Erasers - please use gloves - they are extremely toxic and filled with crap linked to breast cancer .
I have the same before cabinets going to be painting them soon with this method soon. Thanks for the video
Thank you for the comment! Good luck with yours! If you take a pic, tag me on Instagram @bellandcotton I’d love to see!
Kim Boie thanks for the suggestion! I have been noticing it showing through which part of me likes and part of me wants to paint them again! Lol
Christine Okapal thank you so much for the compliment! I love this community because I’m learning so much!
Great video, thank you for your tips. I’ve been nervous about painting my kitchen cabinets. Thinking of doing the bathroom first!

I truly appreciate that
Thanks for the video. Very detailed with a lot of honest heads up
Great video, you answered so many questions.
Thanks so much for this video!! Going to follow your suggestions with the windex, blending old white into the new white, and using floor lacquer rather than wax on my cabinets. Can't wait to get started!

Thank you for this video. It's rare wen we see it afterwards
From a 30 yr pro here,, before paint YES sand and clean with Crud Cutter. Will last 10 to 15 yrs
Bette Gregory thank you. 😋 but if l wanted to buy a cordless random orbit sander, which brand would you recommend? and why are they so pricey.
30 yr pro, just a tip if...using chalk paint you do not sand and TSP is a better cleaner for chalk painting. On shiny surfaces you can use a wipe on de-glosser.
Tip: Try Purple Power to clean instead of Windex. Awesome!! Can find it @ an automotive store.
@haveaniceday -I thought the point choosing chalk paint was so you didn't have to do all that extra work to sand your cabinets?
@@tonyaperry4763 It's a lie to sell paint. For high-gloss items, you have to sand or degloss.

Thanks Shannon! Small world! I love connecting with local people on Instagram, look me up @bellandcotton and send me a message!
Great Video!. I wish there were more online like this.
Be careful with magic erasers. They are basically very fine sandpaper. It's called melamine foam. They can definitely remove your top coat and the paint over a longer period of time.
Nice kitchen transformation. Good job!
@@MeganBell -Thank you for the information.
Dena Adams I wish I could put your comment right up top for everyone to read 😂 thank you!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼❤️
You can repaint it with AS chalk paint then coat with the lacquer
Oil-based poly turns yellow over time. Water-based doesn't.
April Tatum thanks April! That’s what I’ve been told. I use it when I’m doing a deep clean but not on a daily basis.
Great tip! I hate sanding. Thank you!

But otherwise its awesome the videos
Kind Regards Shaun Green from South Africa Cape Town
What a great video!
Thank you!
They look lovely still! Love your hardware too!
Teresa Keough thank you! I thought about changing it out but maybe I won’t!
