Hi Andy just returned to model making on the pretence it's for my Grandson after 50 years and it's amazing how this hobby has moved on, just wanted to say your videos are awe inspiring can't stop watching them as they give great tips and advice. Thanks Andy, Gerry in the UK.
Andy, thank you so much for your tank track/ chipping mix paint. Just finished using it on some tracks and some barb wire. WOW doesn't begin to describe how good the finished parts look. I have noticed that the ratio changes abit across some of the videos, but have got it right now. I see it as being as life changing, but simple as spending money on good quality Sable brushes. Cheers from Australia. Keep the videos coming. Love the channel.
Thanks Andy, I found this very useful, many other you tuber's skip over this process which I think is one of the most important steps for any tracked vehicle.
Andy, thanks for all your videos, especially assembling Friulmodel tracks using staples in lieu of the wire. I've just completed a set for a Panther G I am building. Also I just completed a 1/35 Hobbyboss Leopard VK16.02 trying to emulate proper air brushing. It looks pretty good for my first crack at air brushing. I'm going to use the techniques in this video for my Panther and Leopard tracks which are steel. On the music, the Reggae used in a previous video.was a very good choice. Cheers, Joe
awesome work Andy, I've seen so many track painting videos I was going flak happy, lol. I only like friulmodel track's, i might have to try your way now. hey Adam Mann has a really good video on the differences in manufacturers tracks, that would go nicely with this video.
When I build armoured vehicles, I try to use materials that are to hand, not rush out and buy loads of supplies. EG: Mixed, chopped herbs sprinkled over pva glue looks like grass. I paint the whole vehicle, by hand in a flat enamel , relevant colour, then use acrylic paints to weather etc. Sieved cat litter makes excellent sand, and un-sieved as rubble etc, fixed with PVA. Waxed tooth floss makes ropes for tying down accessories. Shaved off pencil graphite, rubbed onto 'metal' surfaces gives a good effect over ( black painted) MG barrels. It would cost me £100's if I bought all of the specialist paints, mud effects and equipment; money that I can spend on more kits. The results are good enough that I sell them on Ebay. I at LEAST get back the kit's costs. And as it is now snowing, kits stops me sogging out in front of the TV; and usually take me a good month to complete. Your imagination can save you money, and is very satisfying.
I'm the same way: $15 for a jar of filter ?! I just water down muddy acrylic color and cover the model. I use barbecue ash mixed with Elmer's glue for mud. Very convincing.
@@genericdenizen1 Hello, I watch a lot of kit builders and they have every tool and accessory you can think of. Currently I am unravelling hemp string to make into little bushes. Thanks for your reply and keep well
very nice!, what i do is paint the tracks gun metal gray, then add a rust wash, some rust pigments and when the model is complete, i add dirt and grime around the area
Great video. Really like the look of the metal tracks. At the last show I was at I talked to our go to guy for that product and it was after the metal Track is really nice
Awesome video, Andy! I stumbled upon your video looking up 1/35 scale tanks as I'm into Tanks but just starting to get into model tanks. I live up in Flagstaff btw. I'd luv to swing by your shop in Glendale this Saturday. With the state on lockdown you may be closed. I'll give you a call.
love you work. Always. amazing. I've got 6 completed. work on a titan 5. good. kit. 1 more week and hopefully. the fun muddy tracks the. pictures hopefully. don't show. my 20 plus years off . keep up your amacxing. builds aloha from Hawaii DP
XF67 is Natto Green. I made a note of the colour codes mixed them up, sprayed my tracks and they came out more green than i expected. That's when I looked up the code for Natto Brown, it is XF68. I will have another go once I get some XF68. Good video though. Thanks
It is a great video! I made the same mistake with XF67. I went to the hobby shop and bought the colors by the numbers, mixed and sprayed. Oops............re-do!
Videos I have seen assembling tracks, they are glued together and then placed on the vehicle while still flexible. Does using the clear coat not lock it together? Does the glue not cure while doing all the detail work?
Would the pigments stay on your model when living in an erea with lots moisture? Or should I choose another approach like sealing it in by matt varnish, paints only or meaby use liquid pigments?
For the tamiya rubber track, do you just spray tamiya paint straight onto it or do you need to primer it with something? I am a bit unsure if the tamiya paint can stay onto the rubber track properly, thanks!
I'm building the Tamiya Panther Ausf A. My first tank, how do I attach the tracks to the tank and also how to you make sure the top of the tracks are attached to the wheels? When I tested it before painting it was pretty stretched out not touching the wheels on the top part.
great work, just to say all the vallejo stuff is realy safe(think its all waterbased) so the lacquer isnt 100% needed. I never bother putting varnish or lacquer on any part just because i dont like rattle cans and i dont want to airbrush it other than that great vid deffinatly going to try this out
Thanks for posting the video. How would you weather the tracks on, say, a modern vehicle like a Russian MTLB, in an arctic environment. I wouldn't think there would be a lot of mud on them per se. Just wanted to get your take on something like that!
Could you please do a video on Decals - applying and weathering them..... It's the one area I struggle getting right, alignment (that's when they're not stuck to my tools or fingers) adhesion, getting the shinny effect and trying to dull/weather them to match the paint work.....
Hi, please help me to solve one issue with the painting of my models airbrush. When I paint with Tamiya paints and Mr.Hobby on plastic often formed the rough places like the sandpaper like a solvent to dissolve plastic. Can give any advice, can I use a lot of solvent? Thanks
ASSEMBLING PLASTIC TRACKS I started building 1/35 armor in the 70s. I am familiar with rubber band type tracks, but the newer plastic tracks that require assembly are a bit of a puzzle. Can you do a video showing preferred techniques to build the plastic tracks? I can fit the track parts together, but making needed curves of the tracks are puzzles: 1) Shaping the tracks around the drive wheels, idler wheels and creating realistic sag in the upper portion of the track are problems; and 2) If the drive and idler wheels are of the glue-on type, do you glue them in place before shaping the tracks?
Hallo Andy, always nice to see your work, I use tamiya acrylics and put thinner in the bottle to mix it for airbrushing, after that I just keep it mixed in the bottle for a long time and untill now no issue and it keeps spraying without problem while some say don't do that because it will make the paint useless, what is you opinion on that?
I am currently working on an Academy 1/35 Stuart "Honey". The tracks will need to have a desert finish to them. Which pigments would you say are the best to combine for a desert effect?
The way you did your track are awesome! I will do the same with my Kursk early Tiger I I am working on. Always like watching your videos because they are very helpful. Any word on Tamiya's m10 in your store yet? Let me know and thanks.
Excellent and informative video as usual, Andy. I haven't seen you mention it before, but how do you join your 'rubber-band' tracks? I have tried so many glues on the so-called glue-able tracks and still no dice which means I end up upgrading.
I just had a question., if you use a regular spray can paint , Tamiya etc. could you still get good results ? Wish I could get down to your store in person. Always enjoy the videos. Cheers !
Tamiya spray does a good job for a solid single color like a Sherman in olive drab or if you take time and mask off a camo pattern. but it will never be as good as airbrush
Hey from UK Andy, great videos thank you so much, used to make models as a kid now after long break making them with my son everything has moved on light years. quick question final stage of rubber tracks after you applied silver powder - do you lacquer it again or is that it, leave as is?
Thanks very much for this video Andy, though I don't have the amount of pigments you have. I wanted to ask, on the box of Tamiya's JS2 1944 Chtz, the track colour is perfect, similar to what you did in this video. Is there a way to mix up a Tamiya paints only process to achieve the faded steel look?
first of all grat job, amazing! Then a question: when you are done applying the dark steel pigment on the trak (4:34) do you use some coating to bind them to the below layers or you leave them there without anyting more?
Are there any pre-built model tanks? I'm looking for a KV-2 to place on top of my pc for when I play world of tanks, I just don't know where to get pre-built tanks.
I've been modelling for fifty years; mostly aircraft. I still get lots of good info from these videos. Thank you very much for posting them, Andy.
John McElwain mr. May i ask where to buy these scale models online. Thanks

Just started modeling and your videos on building and painting have helped me so much thank you
Love watching you videos I've not yet built a tank but just ordered a sherman m4 so can't wait to crack on wit that.
nice to see other modellers methods of doing this effect. helpful video Andy. thanks

Nice build and like the techniques you used for the tracks!

thank you
Awsome!! Thank you Andy.

Awesome video.
Thanks

I use AK desert wash in exactly the same way. I like the way it accumulates in the cracks and crevices, in a very natural looking way.
nice tutorial, thank you Andy !

nice tutorial , from Spain!
Something I needed. Thank you.
of all the tank track painting videos, i chose this one. Simple with great results.
I went a little thicker on the pigment than you to make a bit thicker, caked-on look and it turned out fantastic.
Thanks for the tutorial.

nice job!

If I have rubber tracks, do I need to prime them before putting the base coat on?
Would the pigments stay on your model when living in an erea with lots moisture? Or should I choose another approach like sealing it in by matt varnish, paints only or meaby use liquid pigments?
How about a video of tack painting/weathering for length and link tracks pre-installed on the tank?
Great vid thanks
thanks for watching.
This is the easiest method of doing tracks, thanks, do you dull coat your tracks after weathering them. Happy modelling to one and all, enjoy
Watches video. Looks at fully assembled Italeri WoT M4 Sherman with the rubber tracks above monitor. Sighs in despair.
You sigh? I painted my $50 Tamiya Sherman NATO Green!
For the tamiya rubber track, do you just spray tamiya paint straight onto it or do you need to primer it with something? I am a bit unsure if the tamiya paint can stay onto the rubber track properly, thanks!
I don't really know i want tank to be new should i just base coat it with black and then drybrush it with oily steel

Hi Andy, What do you do to create sag in tracks(in the kit)made of rubber or vinyl?
Could you please do a video on Decals - applying and weathering them..... It's the one area I struggle getting right, alignment (that's when they're not stuck to my tools or fingers) adhesion, getting the shinny effect and trying to dull/weather them to match the paint work.....
A little brush with some Clear Matte should do it.

Andy have you done a video on making magic tracks? There are many on here but would like to see yours as well.
Do you do that with both sides of the tracks?
Excellent and informative video as usual, Andy. I haven't seen you mention it before, but how do you join your 'rubber-band' tracks? I have tried so many glues on the so-called glue-able tracks and still no dice which means I end up upgrading.
I use Tamiya extra thin the same as building the model
How do you measure out the percentage. Of paint
do you have to seal weathering with the dull coat
I don't believe you use any kind of clear/dull coat once you apply any pigments. You lose the "dusty" look the pigments give you.
are the pigments stable, permanent? I mean they looks like dust and ıt feels they wont hold their place for a long time.

What tracks did you use? did these come in the kit?

Hi, is it possible just to do this with only a brush? i don't have a airbrush and i just use regular brushes instead.
Im going to be begining model building and im going to be building a tiger 1:72 scale any tips???
Can I clear with XF-86?
Hi, very nice video! I was wondering how do you make your trees for your dioramas because they look very nice and realistic.
How can you repair the tracks when they break
Looks great. Would you seal that all in when completely done?
hi no the sealer will blow most of the pigment away
do you use those pigments right after you spray the black? I saved this video so I can watch it again lol

great vid thax, what do you think of the burnishing liquid?
Are the tracks supposed to be able to turn?
Thanks Andy, another useful video. Can you recommend any substitutes for the Vallejo wash as a "fixer"? Cheers
I have used rubbing alcohol in the past but you must seal the model first and use it very lightly.
What would you recommend for early Soviet armor Kits? Thanks!

work was very good, so one thing correct if I am wrong nato brown and 67 or 68 .
Can this be done WITHOUT an airbrush? If so you should do a video doing one WITHOUT an airbrush, Thanks again for these cool and awesome videos.
