I couldn't sleep knowing those inner road wheels weren't painted
I know right?
😂
OCD a muther fukr aint it!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I know the feeling.
This Tiger 1 is such an amazing kit. I preordered one when first released, now I'm getting another. Best 1/16 model kit I've ever built.
Hi Andy! It's so nice to see a real Hobby shop!!! Unfortunately they are so far and few these days. Love to see your store with all of the supplies, scenery, and paints in the background. The Tiger looks great! Keep up the great work my friend!!!!😀😀😀
All my childhood shops have long gone.
Keep these 1/16 scale kits coming Andy! Every one of them so far has knocked it out of the park! Love me some big scale!
Like the light weathering. Just enough to highlight the details.
He did it!!!!!! Cant wait to have this big boy on my bench!!!!!
This kit is so much better than the 1/25 scale one I used to have before. It looks good from every angle.
nice job Andy. The fit, and level of detail on the Sherman were excellent, I believe this will be the same. Can't wait!
If you look at WW2 film, the tracks that contact the ground reflect light, so natural metal shows through. Painted all my tracks with brushed over silver.
This Tiger is gigantic! Nice build and subtle weathering, nothing to crazy. Excellent build🥇
All I can say is Wow! I was looking forward to getting back into modeling a few years back but my arthritis is getting to the point I would never be able to do detail work like that. So, I live vicariously through modeling videos like yours. Great job Andy!
Hang in buddy
That camo and the weathering looks awesome Andy can't wait to see what else is coming down the line this year in 1/16 scale 👍👍
An absolutely stunning build, it is an absolute peach of a kit Andy👌 Lovely to see a proper hobby shop, which in today's society are sadly lacking, I have been modelling on and off because of working commitments, but that is about to change. Please keep the updates flowing, Alll the best from Hartlepool, England🏴🏴🏴
FWIW, I got into modelling 2018/19 due to cancer and abundance of time, Metrohobbies in Melbourne has added 2 new stores since then!
Even though I have one coming after seeing this I must say, it won't be the only one. I was forced to watch Kelly's Heroes as an infant and have been hooked on Tiger tanks ever since
Love the look of it. Can’t wait to get mine.
Awesome job Andy. Keep em comin I'll keep watching
Love the1/16 scale, have to get these, models. Thanks for your videos, I'll keep watching them.
Thank you very much.
Andy, your colored Tiger is looked very nice indeed, I really love it.... ❤️
Hi Andy. First I have to say that I love the background music. I just love classical music, and it is a pleasure to listen to whilst I watch your builds. You are the man for model building, and such an inspiration. I plan on purchasing your 1/16 tiger in the coming days!
Thanks for awesome videos 👍much appreciated 🙂
Cant blame you for not wanting to mess that beautiful camo job up, with winter wash.
Totally awesome and I can’t wait for mine to arrive in the UK! 😜 I’m also hoping that the summer months bring us a Sherman Firefly....Vc, or Ic I really don’t mind....possibly a “two in one” kit there....😎🤪😂😂
Anyhow, congratulations on a job well done, Andy!
Always an Outstanding Video , Build and Presentation.
Thank you
just receive mine today....so happy
Great job, I was impressed with the level of detail in this kit.
Great job Andy. Can't wait to get started on mine.
"absolutely brilliant, build and painting videos, I wonder what's the next big build
I've been wanting to come into building model kits like this, so I'm glad I found you
You did an amazing job painting the Tiger Tank 👍
gorgeous model. just reading sven hassel march battalion where they are using one of these. Awesome build
I think actually the Wehrmacht advised against camouflaging the wheels,as it was thought the rotation would attract the eye of enemy gunners.Maybe a bit of weathering over the decals would be good, just saying.
Glad to see a couple more build videos!
Great looking kit. Thanks for another video!
I wish they would release a "late" version of this panzer.
Absolutely Stunning!
Stunning! Cant wait til mine arrives! Its going to be a long few weeks!
Can't wait till mine comes in. If you take hints about possible next projects with Das Werk, how about a Sdkz 251? That would be a hot seller!
Bravo, Andy just bravo! A masterpiece for sure.
Looks fantastic! I will definitely be getting one
Great vid Andy! 👍👍
Hi Andy, you got me into model making during the lockdowns we had in the UK. I hadn’t made kits since I was a kid and I love it! The videos help massively! I’m in the UK and I’ve just received the 1/16 Tiger 1 yesterday from your EU store. I have to say, what a fantastic kit it is! The detail is superb! Well done and keep up the good work! Just been through all the box and instructions in total awe! 😂 Let’s get started! 👍🏻
Yeah, I would've kept it in the 3-color camouflage too. It looks great!
Wearing two shirts, the temperature must be in the 80s. Paint and build looks great as always.
Work of art Sir Andy.
Hi Andy ! I have built the Hatchet 1/16 Tiger late model. Yours looks a lot better. Steve . U.K.
You’re awesome Andy! I just got an email from your site about an item restock (revell pirate ship). I appreciate you not marking up the price on it like other sites. Hopefully I can visit your shop in person one day
That looks so freaking awesome! Great job.
Hi, Got this for my 70th really looking forward to building, at least I can get some help from your videos. Only drawback my 6yr old granddaughter seems to be dictating the colour scheme.
Great. 👍 I buy one by MBK😊
just ordered this kit, looking forward to it
17:00 Thank you so much for This Video!
Lol, great cam job Andy, I see your point
one track link is short. 210 total in the set, But requires 211. 192 (96x2) plus 12 in front side plus 7 on the turret.
I got mine about an hour ago. It looks excellent. You get two choices of engine deck, two choices of the horizontal glacis plate, and three of the mantlet armor plate. Although there are two different drive sprockets, there is only one center hub choice. I am impressed. They have kept the complexity down but the fidelity of detail looks to be outstanding. Aftermarket parts will no doubt appear quickly. Hey Andy, if you are involved in any upcoming parts (I'm sure you will be) to be offered, please consider the completely neglected "Early/Mid" versions. The main parts needed would be a late model cupola, a pistol port plug, and the later style drive sprocket hub....I can picture a follow-on kit that would probably (like all modern "Mids", not have the Feifels and s-Mines) be an example that would not allow you to build an Early/Mid. David Byrden is, of course, the go-to guy for the exact details.
You're correct, the first "Mid" Tigers had a new turret but there was no change to the hull.
The kit would need a new turret shell (with a pistol port hole, but also the shape changed in places);
a new turret side hatch;
a new feature for the loader's hatch;
the new cupola, which (in this scale) really needs the complete periscopes and internal clock indicator;
alternative turret vision ports, because THEY changed shape pretty early on;
a second dust-protector on the mantlet opening (for the bottom edge);
and a new turret roof of course.
@@daveybyrden3936 Thanks for that. I doubt whether my wishes will come to fruition but I can still hope. They really needed to add the alternative hub.
Cracking job the 3 tone looks ace ! Hoping the the top secret british kit is a firefly 😊
Good video!!! Always wondered how the road wheels would be painted IF they were built/glued into place - THANKS!!! for clarifying that. Me - am too lazy to do that so will paint everything on the parts trees before adding them onto the vehicle.
Also, the OVERPRAY of the various colors that get onto the rubber part of the road wheels actually ADDS more REALISM to the kit in 1:16 scale. Having been around various armored/wheeled vehicles for the past 40+ years or so and having taken plenty of vehicles to the military installation paint shop (or painted them outdoors IN THE WIND), can tell you that OVERSPRAY is a quite common thing. OVERSPRAY is basically dependent on the skill of the painter and/or how the vehicle crew prepared the vehicle. Most times nobody pays any attention to the road wheels/tires and there will be overspray onto the rubber. However, there will be those overly "dedicated" people in charge that start complaining that there is overspray on the rubber, so you got to figure out how to get paint off of rubber. Solution - run to local hardware store and buy black spray-paint, the CURE-ALL for just about anything!!
Any glass (periscopes, windshields, mirrors, etc.) IF NOT covered by tape or newspaper or something, WILL BE PAINTED OVER!! If that happens then the crew have to figure out a way to get that paint off of the glass or other vital items such as DATA PLATES (usually using razor blades to scrape off or paint thinner). Also, certain types of tape can actually be burned onto the glass from the heat/force of the paint coming out of the spray gun and that adds another obstacle to contend with for the crew to get their vehicle in tip-top shape after leaving the paint shop.
Tools - IF NOT removed from vehicle, then tools will be painted over. Most units do not like the wood on the tools to be painted over and, IF that happens, then got to figure out how to get the paint off of the wood (lots of SANDPAPER). Main reason for not wanting paint on the wood is because the paint will actually dry out the wood thus weakening it and creating a safety hazard for it is then possible for the tool to BREAK in half when using it - YEP, that does happen. You are supposed to use a resin oil or something (forget what) and apply that to the wood in order to help protect the wood (though if the wood is going to break it is going to break regardless of what is on it).
Makes sense! No need to paint the other road wheels since they're not fully visible.
That's a masterpiece 👏. I like it because it's realistic and not too arty.
Beautiful kit.
2:12 what could it be, the anticipation is killing me ;)
Отличная работа! Спасибо
Great vid as always Andy, 👌.
Are you doing a takom apache build , proper full build vid , not so much skipping stuff 😜🤣🙏👍 PLEASE ... like the good old days , black and white base coats the lot 🤣more in depth .Good hour or 2 long , 🤣🤣 no-one could beat it ! Massive hit for the channel thats why im still here 6 years or so later
Wow!!! Beautiful model. only issue for me is that I have no room in which to put it!
thats how I would have painted the wheels 💪
At 21:00 we see the turret roof, and in front of the loader's hatch there is a small periscope cover.
Tiger "S04" did not have this, due to its age. This fact is clear in photographs.
Some of the other Tigers on the decal sheet did have this periscope.
Nice build, Andy 👍
awesome looking sir very cool
wow.. great job
Been waiting for this video to come out! I think I'm leaning towards German Grey with winter camo, but not so sure now. Your paint job came out great!
As far as I can tell, Tigers of these versions were never painted RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau (dark grey). I mean all of the versions that you can build from the kit; from about February 1943 to May 1943.
Hopefully a steel wheeled late Tiger 1 will follow. The groundwork has already been done, just a few new sprues is all. There is no accurate kit and there should be.
Just to clarify for the readers : there is no accurate 1/16 kit. But plenty of accurate kits in smaller scales!
@@daveybyrden3936 Yes true, but since this was about the 1/16 kit I assumed people would get that if they read my comment properly.
I all ready build this tank
I see why you elected NOT to put on the winter whitewash, the 3-tone is just so amazing looking. Love watching your video Andy!
My dream is to open a Hobby shop. Damn good green screen
🎉🎉looks great.
Well done! 👍🇳🇿
When tanks are being used, they roll around in the dirt, mud, grass, leaves, sand, etc., they DON'T get rusty, like a quarter in your pocket they are burnished. In fact track's are the first place mud will be knocked off of.
At 3:20, Andy ignores the kit's instructions. He omits a sunken pot (part T7) because he's building a Tiger with its antenna on the other side of the roof.
But the kit's instructions are correct on this point. Part T7 should be used on Wittman's Tiger (and any other Command Tiger).
Every Command Tiger had that pot welded into the roof, and a ceramic insulator inside it, and a rubber antenna base on top of that, and a short metal pole protruding from the antenna base. Only the antennas themselves were optional.
Hi Andy, Could you adds some weights to the interior (2-3 pounds). It seems the the road wheels are sitting too low due to the workable suspension, creating a large gap between the road wheels and mud guards. It would also bring the tracks down to touch the 1st-2nd road wheels
Looks great Andy. But I would never practically fully build a tank before painting it. I would probably do the wheels separate before putting them on the tank. At least with the Black and Dark Yellow. I may have sprayed the camo on the wheels after fitting. I was surprised that you painted the base colour with XF-60 Dark Yellow. Tamiya have now replaced that colour with the more accurate XF-88. Tamiya now have 3 new colours for the camo of German vehicles Xf-88, XF-89 and XF-90.
Thank you for this video! I found this 1:16 Tiger on eBay and I really liked the fact it's large because I like large scale car models like 1:8 scale. I have several cars in 1:8 scale already. Unfortunately, I can't find other models of tanks in this 1:16 scale. Please tell me if it's rather exotic / very rare scale or if it's becoming normal? I see lots of 1:35 tank models for sale. Thank you.
Would like M24, M36 and Churchil ! I'm Guessing Next 3 are either a Sherman Easy 8 Korean version or M48 Patton, Lee and Grant.
My OCD demands you paint those inner road-wheels...
Oh WOW, another tank, I'm so excited. That's all you've got?
Andy, please release a 1/16 Late Tiger, Normandie style, with the steel road wheels! You would be the first, EVER, to release this model in 1/16.. The RC Taigen/Torro Late Tiger doesn’t count, as it is loaded with inaccuracies, especially with the turret (which is unfixable because they screwed it up so badly).
It's not true that most Early Tiger 1 were "usually German grey" as stated here.
The great majority of them were painted either "Tropical" (like Tiger 131) or "Dark Yellow" with optional red and green added.
You find these Tiger versions in battalions 502 (mostly Dark Yellow), 504 (probably Tropical, definitely not grey), 505 and 503 (some Tropical, some Dark Yellow with lots of camouflage) and the Tiger companies like Wittman's Kursk company (Dark Yellow with camouflage).
I don't believe that ANY Tiger you can build from this kit, was grey. Correct me if I'm wrong?
Would painting the wheeels before assembly not have been easier?
Amazing job. I doubt real tanks were painted so artistically however.
Quiero una ! Soy de Argentina
How is the big German factory coming on?
Hi Andy. Really, really nice job 👏 I am now in a quandary as I was intending to do mine in the winter camo too but this looks superb! I do actually have Tamiya 1/35 Panther and King Tiger kits in the stash waiting to be built so they may have to take the winter scheme. I was actually thinking about doing Ardennes dioramas with them anyway so that would be fine. I may have to have a crack at duplicating this camo scheme as yours looks so good! Sorry to hear my European delivery will be a bit later but at least it will give me a chance to have a practice on one of the others. The only thing with me is that I will have to paint the subsections before assembly - they won't be seen for the most part but I will know! 😁
Exactly- that's how I do it too. The way he does it looks very difficult....
You should know about 1/35 scale diecast Minichamps tanks.
If more 1/16 kits were available at the time I would have just not done my whole showcase of military armor in 1/35th scale. Now lets see if 1/16 scale can have as much verities the 1/35 scale. If that happens I will surly build another showcase.
Love this! Would you concider making a Late Production version as well? Or an add-on kit to change it to Late?
Hey Andy are one of those secret upcoming kits a 1/16 Sherman Firefly?
Great kit. Too bad there’s no plans for Soviet AFVs in near future.
Looking good. Can you give us an idea how much paint is needed for that large a job?
How about a 1/16 DUKW or 2.5t truck?
Just a thought.
P.S. great job on that Tiger I.
Is there a color list? It looks great
it would be good if there was a late
Wow...had no idea anyone painted the wheels while after being glued on...I always assumed people painted them like me by doing each wheel before it's attached to the kit. Esp the black rubber rim...heck I even weather each wheel separately before it goes on the tank. No way could I ever try to paint the running gear like that...
