    1. When you spawn multiple units - like BTRs you did - and select 6, that's a group of 6 and they share the same task. If you spawn 1, then copy and paste (ctrl-c, ctrl v) they act as 6 groups of one and move as a formation like you'd expect. Ground units' formations aren't something Olympus can do just yet.
    2. Don't forget your hot-groups! They're super-useful.
    3. You can spawn at an airbase (i.e. on the ground) by ctrl-right-clicking an airbase icon.
    4. Click on the blue icon in the upper-left and you can export your ground units to JSON so you can import them again in a future mission.
    5. Ground units marked with (CA) are Combined Arms-compatible so you can jump into them.
    6. In single player, you can jump into aircraft if you have that module.
    Have fun!
    Source: am developer. :)

      Also you can add mods by adding 1 then copy and pasting it.

      Hey thanks for the help and insight on this! The goal was to show it off as a first time use and that its for the most part easy to use. For sure will be diving deeper into the functionality and this info helps. Great job!

    Important Note: DCS Olympus isn't a Mission Editor so while I said it could be used to create missions it's not technically true but there is a "hack" to kinda get it to do it. I learned this after recording this video and after taling to the Devs. Let me know if you'd want a video on the mission creation work-around.

      Question: Thinking about using this in a RED FLAG mode.
      Will it weird out Olympus if you load a mission that has BLUEFORCE (air and ground) units already in place and just want to place REDFORCE unit on the fly?
      AND
      Is it possible to save a mission for replay AFTER you’ve placed units for REDFORCE?

    I for one would love a video on the work around.

    Installation was relatively easy. If you are running dedicated server make sure that you run the DCS server as administrator. Brilliant module with prospects to micromanage. First steps are encouraging. I am a bit skeptical about how competently the base DCS AI engine will be tackling complex orders, but that is not Olympus’ problem. Kudos to the dev team.

    "How did they manage to create this, while DCS never made anything like this" Eagle Dynamics took like 2 years to give us a barley working FCR on the AH-64D, among many other examples. Maybe that answers your question? Also, seems like 3rd party developers like Heatblur and Razbam release modules that are in much better working order then ED, just sayin'! I'm not bashing Wags and team here, they are obviously working their asses off, but it's great to have other great minds contributing to this 15 year + project we call DCS!

    For a Cold Start A/C you have to select an Airbase (simple click on it) than you get an spawn Menu for this Airbase.

    So I see you mentioned port 3000 and that you had to change it on install. However, I saw in the browser URL, port 3000 being used. Have I missed something? Anyway, saw this tool demoed a few weeks ago but it had yet to be released. Sure it doesn’t replace the Mission Editor but it sure makes life a lot easier for those who might struggle setting up missions with zones triggers and the like. I can see someone creating a very basic mission then overlaying (much more easily) that basic mission with the complex scenarios this allows. Anyway-thanks for sharing-great, relevant content and well timed.

    • @callsigngrimey
      @callsigngrimey  9 месяцев назад

      Yeah don't overthink that part as long as you change the port number on the install portion it works just fine.

    Thank yo for taking the time to put together these tutorials! It would be helpful if I could get Olympus up and running. So far, I have hit every major hurdle one could think of. I installed the server, then when that did not connect, I installed the standalone, but that will not connect either. I am stuck on the "Connecting" screen now, which is an improvement since the last time all I could get was "Server Not Recognized". I have followed ALL directions to the letter for installation and configuration, including renaming the backed port 3002. Still I cannot seem to get Olympus to connect. What suggestions would yo be able to offer??? Thankx!

    can you change weather in realtime? like change wind direction, randomly and stuff? when you set training scenarios, with static wind directions, flying the same approaches becomes boring quite fast.

    I couldn't get Olympus to connect with my DCS server. Also when I was sat in the cockpit of the plane in the DCS server that I created, with Olympus loaded, I couldn't use the mouse to click on any of the buttons in the plane's cockpit. So i gave up and removed it from my PC.

    • @Chute_Mi_Plz
      @Chute_Mi_Plz 9 месяцев назад

      @@kellymcguire1385 my guess would be a vr overlay app like ovr toolkit or xs overlay. Would still be awkward but those apps let you basically have one of your monitors open inside your vr headset.

    I think a good mission maker won't really need to use this that often unless something doesn't work because a trigger is funky.

    • @callsigngrimey
      @callsigngrimey  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah that is exactly how I tested as in this video. Just pick a map, maybe add a few things to it in ME then save it as a mission. Then create the server and load that mission and once in it, then you design the full mission by adding stuff in real-time.

    Hmm... the interesting part here is that hopefully Olympus is exposing the external API calls so that you can write external dynamic mission logic against it and this way bypass the limited scripting language of ED editor! For the lame men, imagine someone writing very complicated dynamic campaigns or missions, where the theater level logic is outisde of the game, only giving AI instructions to DCS dedicated server to spawn/move etc to units as if RTS.

    I play in VR, so my main pc is out out sight and cant really bounce in and out of VR on same pc. It starts messing with WMR. My question can i run this from a laptop that does not have dcs on it. Since you login to a dcs MP game server.

      I did create a DCS dedicated server on my laptop. It was getting late so had to stop. I have to do the configuration correctly. I had to create a missions folder for the ded server file. I just copy the missions from my main pc over to it.

    • @callsigngrimey
      @callsigngrimey  9 месяцев назад +1

      I had the same fps in my experience. That could change if you went crazy and spamming all types of units maybe? IDK for sure.

    • @peekaboosteam
      @peekaboosteam 9 месяцев назад +1

      YMMV but the overhead only really happens when you spawn stuff. Be sensible in how much you have in the mission at once and how many orders you give at once and you should be okay.

    I''m new to the forums so I can't post for another day but I did find a crash with Apache. In the CPG seat, set the NVS mode to fixed and try to change the acquisition source and you'll crash. Hopefully someone can reproduce this.

  • @Skipper441
    @Skipper441 9 месяцев назад

    I have been following this project for a long time, but I still don’t understand its usefulness for myself as a simulator pilot. All I need to do is to get into my favorite Apache and fly off to the next interesting mission. I fly exclusively solo missions and therefore I miss the generator of these missions where you just press a button and get a new task. Olympus turns DCS into RTS game but why? Today there are so many very high-quality RTS games on the market that are much better than this mod.

    • @davidepassoni52
      @davidepassoni52 9 месяцев назад

      For singleplayer the usefullness of Olympus is limited to spawning units in real time, mostly for training. It has been used to "fix" mission when something broke, e.g. a tanker failing to show up. But this is not the use case, Olympus was build for Multiplayer missions where a Game Master creates and manages the mission real time.

    • @callsigngrimey
      @callsigngrimey  9 месяцев назад +1

      I also mostly fly solo and for me the usefulness is being able to do things in real-time without having to deal with the ME which I am not great at nor do I want to spend so much time tinkering in it to then test, redo, test, redo, then finally have a mission to fly.

    • @peekaboosteam
      @peekaboosteam 9 месяцев назад +2

      It's not meant to be an RTS. We only use that term to give people a familiar term when trying to explain it. Sure, Olympus' utility is diminished a little for single-players, but that doesn't make it not useful.
