In Chimera Squad I like those little details about how world works after the war - like Vipers dont sleep in beds but on boulders, that Mutons have cats to help them keep calm, show empathy or something, that Floyd Tesseract guy or how Advent Burger after the war turned into FoodLife and had to do some really weird stuff to stay in the business. For a little experimental spin-off game the world was surprisingly very well fleshed out.
This wasn't a bad jam. It was very well priced when it came out, and I definitely got my money's worth. If they keep anything from this little experiment, let's keep the combined assault entries for some missions in Xcom 3. That being said, it didnt keep my interesting long enough to go get through the last 10% of the game - got distracted by a newer, shinier game that came out.
As someone who enjoyed Xcom the bureau (I know, crucify me, I love the twist in that game), chimera squad, its not for me, not a fan of the tone and premade squad and just the vibe in general, I like having a bunch of no name grunts I get attached to making there perma death feel impactful, heck, the unscripted scripted event moments (in other games) that have happened in WOC alone are some I still am amazed happen un scripted, and breaching mechanic over stayed its welcome, got old fast real fast for me.
I never understood the hatred for Bureau. As you say, the twist was amazing. Did not see it coming, yet it made so much sense. Still, I also liked this game. It's more of a puzzle game though.
Most baffling release price-wise. 20€ game sold at 8€ at most stores BEFORE the release. Won’t complain over cheap prices but man was I ready for it to be an absolute stinker.
I've played through this and enjoyed it quite a bit, but the characters' quips were a bit of annoying. I did enjoy the radio announcers though. Oh, and realizing Jane Kelly had become a major character was nice after having her as one of my main soldiers in XCOM2. What I didn't like was infinite respawns and worse animations (no dashing???).
I think if you have enjoyed those then chimaera squad should be your next. The older ones, although still very good, are quite different in style and appearance. But if you are fine with that then go for the older ones too!
I hate the main characters in this game, and it really makes me yearn for the customization of WOTC. This game plays like xcom-lite. In the Xcom 2, I remember the first 5 hours being a crazy uphill battle, which is difficult on even easier settings. This game is extremely easy by comparison.
the battles dont seem to have the consequences like the others. when a experienced medic went down in the older games you would hold your breath and hoped they survived. in this just take a couple days off and your good
The ironic things IS the PSI faction is a tually the templars from xcom 2, idk if you remember but in one of the endings, after the victory you see the templars going back into hiding, or prepared for the next step that comes after, now idk if geist is involve or not, but from the ending of xcom 2 it looked like he was about to start some shit.

Yet its still awful and nearly destroyed x coms future
I just realized, the world xcom is headed to is kinda like District 9.
What a great film!

I completely agree with combined assault being a part of the future titles!

Yeah I picked it up pretty cheap! It’s definitely not the full length of say, Xcom 2, but there’s plenty of content in there!
At the release game was on -50% sale, so it was super duper cheap.

How many XCOM games are there and in what order should I play them? I already did Enemy Within and XCOM 2

Thank you mate!
The cringe dialogue made me refund it after an hr. Honestly worst dialogue in a game ive ever played
