Interestingly, Book Off and Hard Off was on the Japanese news the other day, where one of the store managers in Hokkaido was discovered to have committed fraud of millions of yen by pretending to sell the second hand goods to phantom customers, whose names he took from the list of customers who sold the items to his store, and then pocketed the proceedings for himself. He's now on the run and police have begun a man hunt for him.
That's okay, I guess.. It sounds like the corruption is an isolated case. As long as they punish the guy, it shouldn't affect the company (at least on my opinion).. At least it's not like a gangster/mafia/Yakuza is running the company, haha
Liquor Off is not a good place to sell alcohol you own for investment purposes, but it is a good place to sell alcohol received for weddings, funerals, year-end gifts and mid-year gifts. They also seem to deal in products that have been accidentally damaged during the distribution process (products with no quality problems).
This is in Hachiouji, link below. Been there 2 or 3 times so far. It's the best secondhand place I've seen. 16 Owadamachi, Hachioji, Tokyo 192-0045 Note: that piece of wood the passed at 5:49 was around 8k USD if i remember correctly...
I could probably spend an entire day wandering around that building. Though probably not buying anything since the stuff I'd want would be close enough to original price I might as well just get it new.
I wonder if these are also second hand as in unsold merchandise from other stores. In the US we have stores like Big Lots and TJ Max that sell things that other stores couldn’t sell but are still technically fine. That might be what Liquor Off was? 🤔
I bought what I thought were LP's from a second hand shop in Okinawa (Madonna, Bon Jovi, Beatles) without using google translate to check the label on the shelf. When I got home I discovered they were actually laser discs. A friend of a friend here collects laser discs and I sold them for a good profit 😂
At 10:47 where you saw those cute keychains, and before that where you saw the re-ment blind boxes, is that not under Hard-off? And would any Off store have similar or the same things as shown here? Or do I need to find the “right” / “best” one?
Oh yeah, I went to this exact one in Febuary, had a great time rummaging through all the departments. Took a Famicom AV home and a few carts. Not super cheap but still much cheaper than Super potato. Well worth going to the Hard Offs in less touristy areas like this one since they tend to have cheaper more interesting stuff.
I need an OFF store for car accessories and the like. I'm in dire need of one of those thing you use to lift your car up, "jacks" I think they're called?
Heheh in my town theres a book-off (they sell mostly books but also anime figures, video games, movies, cds) and theres a adult video shop across the street. So to imagine it being called a “hard-off” instead would make the adult video shop so much more funny 😂
I'm in heaven looking at all those Vita games - def going searching for nice obscure otome games in hardoff when I'm in Tokyo 😁 Might pick up a PSP whilst I'm at it 😊
Yooooo Eco Town Hachioji, let's goooo! Love that place. Absolutely the best "Off" experience in Japan. You can spend a whole day there, easy -- I know, because I have. ;)
Would love to go to a retro store just for nice conditioned hardware. Game & Watches? Physical Game & Watches would be nice to have. 2:42 Yotsuba spotted

Only in Japan can you legally engage with another man in a Hard-Off in public.
you can help each other in groups and rounds.
They also get to Liquor-Off in public with no ramifications
well in australia we have a tv show called Hard Quiz and they do Hard offs pretty regularly
it's called: aging society.

I see what you did there, Mudan

I never thought about alcohol gifts that could be resold, but it makes sense. Thank you for your insight.
second hand store in japan are like time capsule, most items are in pristine condition because most people takes good care of their stuff.
Unlike most foreigners whose first move would be to rip off the packaging without the slightest care
@@thekenthouse6428 Yeah, using items they buy, how weird...

I was not expecting to hear "Ogre Battle" in this age. All I can say is... FIGHT IT OUT.
I miss when victor was doing japan videos. Always good to see him appear in a video nowadays.
Good question Victor. When are we going to get a Mudan DDR stream?
This is goin' on my Japan bucket list
The innuendos off the bat Mudan 🗿
Am I the only one who understands the complexities of this ambitious cinematic masterpiece?
Hard Off (plus its spin-offs) and Yodobashi Camera are legit my two FAVORITE stores in Japan.

0:32 LiquorOff⁉️ Mudan, sir, I hardly know her‼️
I’ve been to this location. I spent ages in there! I’m definitely going back when I’m over there again at the end of September !
The fact that they didn't once say the opposite of "off" in this video is proof of their professionalism 😅

I think from watching other videos the "Off" part translates closer to discount than secondhand

liquor off? I hardly know many types of liquor, and therefore it would be challenging to have a fair liquor based discussion.
