    Excellent instructional video. I have watched numerous videos on jewelry making in an attempt to learn the craft at my pace in my home and to keep things affordable in my retirement. Yours was one of those where I finally had that, aha! Moment. I could never figure out just how to calculate the correct size of the ring blank. Aha! I should have remembered my shop math, but it was elusive. Thank you, and thank you for the cool ring type that I will attempt to create next.

      No, don't use e6000 to do this. It's just going to make a mess and will not hold up over time. This is more or less a soldering project. Also don't use a soldering iron or soft electrical solder, you will need a torch and hard silver solder. 😊👍

    Help, I used 18 gauge copper and sterling glued them together then sawed the pieces. Then torch unglued them. Now when I go to solder the copper and sterling mountains don’t fit snuggly together because the saw blade created a gap the width of the blade. Since solder won’t fill gaps what do you suggest I do? Question, please HELP. I followed your instruction but used my own drawing. Here’s my problem I need help with: the saw blade leaves a small gap the size of the blade so when I put the copper and sterling pieces together b4 soldering there is a slight gap. Solder is not supposed to be used to fill gaps so I am not sure what to do. Please respond and thank you in advance.

    @angelaksams I really like the way the two different thicknesses looks! What is the difference in gauges? 18 and 20? 16 and 20? Thanks, man!

    How do you go about valuing your work? Just getting started in making jewelry myself and am having a hard time deciding on pricing. So far I've made 1 pendant from 304 stainless and a shiva eye shell teardrop. It was a rather large pendant and an involved process, machined it out on a manual mill. I managed to sell it for $80, but I feel like that was both too low and too high at the same time. I put around 14 hours of time into it, but the materials weren't worth much. They were just very difficult to work with. I originally wanted $150 for it, but I accidentally took too much out on the facing side of the seating area. My wife talked me down to $80.

      I use a random number generator.... I'm kidding but yeah you are going to have a hard time selling stainless steal items like that. You are competing with cheap Chinese items along with the metal not really being worth anything so most people will just not pay for it. According to your under you only got about $6 per hour for your work and that is not including materials. Even at your $150 price point is only $10 per hour.
      I'm not saying that you can't get more money for them but you have to find a way to add value to your work but I can't tell you how to do that seeing that I really don't know. Sorry I can't me of more help. 😅👍

      @@GomeowCreations no worries, I appreciate you taking the time to reply. It's an interesting spot to be in for sure. When I get it down well and am making flawless pieces I could probably charge more just on the principle of it being hand crafted art. I mean painters do it XD. I think I might save the gemstones for more precious materials, and try my hand at simple engravings for the stainless. Or maybe just drop that material altogether except for very simple pieces. It's a real pain to work with. Gotta say I'm jealous of the way silver smiths get to wrap the bezel wire around the stone to make the setting. So much easier.

      @@GomeowCreations I'm definitely going to. Just gotta make one more piece from the stainless. I was doing 2 as mother's day gifts on sort of a commission. In fairness I have to do both similar. After I get paid for those I'll be experimenting with some pure silver coins I've bought over the years to see what I can do in the way of casting. If that fails, I'll remelt them into sheet metal and go from there.

    What kind of solder is it ?

  • @KRich408
    @KRich408 4 года назад +1

    Use plain paper and Cyanoacrylate to hold it on the piece you will have no worry about it lifting off when cutting the paper and glue can then be sanded off when needed.

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  4 года назад +1

      Yeah that would also work well for this. I use the label paper on larger pieces of metal so it has a kinda brim to them and it has no problem with sticking. It's just when it's a tight fit that it becomes a problem 😊. That being said I will do that in the future.

      GomeowCreations We pickled the metal after burning off the excess superglue, and are using Delcast Rosin Soldering Flux Paste.

    When you want to soften silver, do you heat it, then let it cool without dipping it in water?

      You heat it up and you can let it cool or put it into water, it really doesn't matter

    Hello. I love the one with different thicknesses!
    What is the size of your blade? Can a 3/0 take angles like that?
    Thank you.

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  4 года назад +2

      So if you want them to have different thickness like my copper and brass ones, I just used 0.6mm copper and 0.8mm brass.
      As for the saw blade, I used the 3/0 for all of this even though bits not really meant to cut metal that is that thick. 😁👍
