I got a pretty rare voice line when I was playing Ogryn and they talk about Grendyl and Atoma, one says “if Atoma is so important, why doesnt Grendyl take more of an active role?” And another character answers “Atoma probably isn’t the only concern for Grendyl right now”
Grendyl is currently on Atoma though, Zola says it quite clearly in the intro cinematic when she says that she intends to bring the corrupted captain to her "master" on Atoma for interrogation (she does refer to Grendyl as "the master" a couple times). However, many voicelines mention other city-hives on Atoma, though these conversations are always cut short as one of the officers on the Mourning Star usually barges into the comlink to put an end on the topic, usually with a more or less explicit threat. It seems highly probable that Grengyl is already dealing with some stuff not too far from Tertium. The question is: what could possibly be considered as a priority over this Nurgle corruption breakout? Word has it that Tyranids might have something to do with it, and more particularly their genestealer minions... after all, genestealers are mentionned quite a bit in the characters voicelines, and the announcements on the Mourning Star does give word of potential xeno sightings in the sector requiring auric-level agents. My guess is that Fatshark will release its first DLCs not too long from now as a campaign occuring in another hive-city, deepening the lore of Atoma as they initially wanted to (I guess the initial feedback on the game and its rather bad reputation on release has delayed the team's calendar).
A similar dialogue can occur between a Zealot and a Psyker; with the latter lamenting why Grendyl doesn't intervene more actively by supporting the strike teams, only to have the Zealot remind them that drawing the attention of an Inquisitor is generally unwise.
I'm pretty sure it was a patch 13 update! I've been playing since the betas, and they rearranged the shop locations at some point. The items at the Commissary with Mara/servitor Mara used to just in the armory.
Also now we know that "Wyrmwood" is apparently just an organization serving Grendel and that one agent survived just long enough to report something about a boss enemy before immediately dying.
I'm just seeing it in my mind, in the middle of all the gritty and scarred combattants, there's a 2D cartoon network style character screaming "I AM A WARRIOR! I AM A WARRIOR! I AM A WARRIOR!"
This makes the story actually make sense and that makes me actually want to play the game. There's a lot of details I definitely did not notice in the first parts of the playthrough I'm doing so far.
Well, a lot of it is details we got before the game even launched! Which on one hand is super cool and fairly unique - I don't think I've ever really encountered a game giving us the story preamble like Fatshark has with Darktide. But on the other hand, it's easy to miss.
I have 2000+++ hours in Darktide, and I totally missed that the traitor ran the cosmetic shop. I'm a terrible agent of Inquisition. If anyone is going to look for me, tell them I'm in my cabin, self-flagellating myself.
13:49 so fun thing about the Sky Reavers is there is also an Eldar Corsair group of the same name. This would be far more interesting than simply some hostile wildlife from Tertium
I love this video. You touch on the reasons behind the game which is rare. I used to think that the Imperium was the real bad guy in the 40k universe...but then I learned about Chaos. The Imperium HAS to be as brutal as it is or else it will fall. People HAVE to believe that their faith will protect them or else Chaos will take them over far too easily.
Absolutely loving your videos after having found you through the Zola speculation. You bring a really fun energy to these topics that is very much appreciated. Obviously take the opinion of an internet gremlin with a grain of salt, but you should consider doing content on the wider Warhammer universe and on other universes you enjoy if writing the scripts for these videos is something you find entertaining!
Thanks so much! I totally plan to do general 40k lore in the future. I was gonna do that next, but a few people have asked me to do the hints dropped in Vox 11, and I think I could also segue that into a good general "What IS 40k lore?" type thing. Because since it's more of a setting than one continual narrative/cannon, I feel it is worth talking about especially when it comes to speculative things.

The main thing about’s darktide’s story that gets me REALLY excited is that Wyrmwood agents are eluding to Genestealers being on Atoma, and the Hive Mind is dedicated enough to possibly send LICTORS. Really excited for Genestealers bc it’ll be a nice change of theme from Nurgle and Tyranids are my favorite :3

honestly a very enjoyable video, love the humour and attention to detail, also idk if you've played Enderal but your voice reminds me of some of the characters
Morrow is a sergeant major in the steel legion. It's his job to make the FNG's life a misery. He didn't just come up to you to give you shit for his own pleasure, he gets paid to give you crap. That's said anyone who's worked in the military knows a sergeant who couldn't finish their breakfast without a cup of some grunt's pain and tears.
I would love to maybe see the lvl cap increased abit more so it makes more sense for the Auric class missions to be more meaningful, sure lvl 30 is good but it'd be nice if it was increased to like 60 or something and we gain access to even more devastating weapons and outfits. would make sense , since Auric class operatives are meant to have almost "elite" weapons and armour and such, would make good use of Scion/Kasrkin style outfits or outfits with Carapace armour, maybe make the "Trinkets" on weapons be blessed aswell, increasing maybe your ammo or rate of fire? or perhaps damage per shot or something along them lines?. Maybe be able to have more than just backpack accessories too, maybe allow for more customisation of our character?.
I agree. I believe Vermintide went to level 35 eventually. But still, even 5 levels might not be enough. I 100% agree about more accessories and ways to make your character truly unique. Pregenerated races you randomize doesn't feel terribly unique, especially when your character background choices don't matter except voice choice and Cadia.
@@Jo_Plays_Games Well i am a big fan of Cadia, collect the table top models and such, and books, but yes, would love to see more customisation to your character, maybe some more hairstyles too, because it seems both male n female characters have the same ones to choose from which i think should be rectified. Would love to have some kind of Hair bun like minka lesk or maybe a head band/bandanna, or allow veteran to wear the beret's that we see on ogryns, or even officer caps and great coats and such.
Fun fact: the squad you see at the start is very much dead. You can actually see them in the Hab Dreyko mission for the sample collecting thing when you leave the last airlock to the third stage of the level strung up on an altar. All you do is just look up and they’re there
But at least two of them are the ones who come out the back of Masozi's ship in the tutorial during the last stand? I'll take a look, I 100% believe you, but that specific group has bizarre continuity issues.
Glad that others noticed that they brought the traitor back as a servitor too, the game doesn't have very much story up front and center, but the attention to background detail and visual storytelling has been so well done. It's a shame that you can rarely find the time to explore the world environments more without holding up your teammates, especially since you can't even do private lobbies unless you have at least two players.
100% agreed on the environment exploring. I know I've annoyed at least a few strike teams while I tourist around at all the dark tongue looking for clues.
@@Jo_Plays_Games I'm always down to form a lore-hunter squad xP with Carnival around the corner I'm itching to see what new tidbits they're hiding about for us to find.
I am fine with the strange approach FatShark took. It is very frustrating as a player, but an inquisition accolyte (especially in that crazy situation) generally has no f****g idea what is going on. Thanks for the breakdown though, I did follow we were on a Rogue Trader ship but not who that lady was.
Ha, thanks! Yeah, there's soooooooo much, especially chains of "and then THIS thing is related to THIS thing," Darktide itself is an endless jumping off point into almost anywhere in 40k lore.
We can only hope, if we're very lucky and have been very good so the Emperor will bless us this mightly, that Orks will fly in and blow them up, and then we get to fight the Orks.
It’s interesting how many people just proclaim the game has no story at all but it’s obvious it just isnt told to you as straight forward as traditionally with other stories.
I honestly don't know if I've ever encountered a game that gives so much back story through pre-launch promos, and out of sequence. Which has been interesting and fun in my opinion!
I hope we don’t kill Wolfer just yet. Im hoping he’ll be a sort of nemesis villain for us rejects/auric operatives. Not the main villain overall but someone we’ll battle and will get away from time to time as we increase in strength.
@@Jo_Plays_Games not to mention in the warlord assassination mission, he straight up talks to us on vox comms. He knows we survived the ship hijacking.
Zola is obviously a traitor no? I mean the way she makes sure Wolfenbüttel doesn’t get killed because her master has business with him and the way she got convienently left for dead feels that way xD
I don't know exactly where I stand on Zola. I don't think she's a traitor, I think she's probably deeply hurt and betrayed over Wolfer and feels it's her personal responsibility to save Tertium. Possibly because she may have a past where she was involved with something that lead in part to the Nurgle incursion. But heresy isn't one person's sole responsibility, and her insistence to hold onto this intense sense of duty may end up becoming her undoing.
i never listen to the cutscenes till they shot the traitor, i was like who the hell was that? then i went to commissary and lady looked different i thought it was something to due with halloween🤡
I feel like they've done a decent job developing the story, but not integrating the player into it. Alternatively you could say they have the plot down but not the story to accompany it as the main protagonist (the player) doesn't have much to do with anything yet. I hope that changes soon as well and we get flung more into the actual drama. The Emperor Protects.
Ha ha, lots of people do, it's definitely not just you and I can 100% see why! Her presentation in that world introduction is very "Head Bitch in Charge."
@@Jo_Plays_Games I was convinced it was gonna be genestealers, ah well. What do you reckon it could be then, some sort of chaos sorcerer or something? Definitely sounds like a character of some kind

The story components are there, but they way they explain and show it is freaking horrible. Honestly the game really needs a story telling overhaul, and more missions, in a linear way, to tell the story. Then after you play the linear story type missions, you unlock the area as more of a "retake it" type story less mission.

It'd be one of the coolest things ever if Fs would implement their own, unique and outstanding enemy type with a fitting lore and backstory
Nurgle taking over a hive city. Its yolo, we fucked, lets go bb
The Shling Shlong is real! 🤣
Another super compelling video!
Thank you!
Nice! I love a puzzle, you earned it.
Thanks!
@@Jo_Plays_Games oh I mean the all guardsmen squad that rannick sent into the lower hive from what I believe is the reveal trailer.
@eugeneoliveros5814 ohhhhh, I gotcha! Still a very good catch!
Liked because I'M A WARRIOR!
You should join the Discord if you haven't already! I might end up doing some games this week in the evenings (PST).
Oh cool! I was wondering if ye had one or not. I'm PST as well. Be there soon
I am fine with the strange approach FatShark took. It is very frustrating as a player, but an inquisition accolyte (especially in that crazy situation) generally has no f****g idea what is going on. Thanks for the breakdown though, I did follow we were on a Rogue Trader ship but not who that lady was.
I agree, the story delivery 100% makes sense from an in-universe perspective. But I also understand how people feel unsatisfied by it.
I love your content! I look forward to seeing more
Thank you so much!
This explanation could be 15 hours long. Good job condensing this info into 14 minutes
Ha, thanks! Yeah, there's soooooooo much, especially chains of "and then THIS thing is related to THIS thing," Darktide itself is an endless jumping off point into almost anywhere in 40k lore.
wait wait wait, Atoma has SKY DINOS?! wtf , now my next question is simple.....when do we fight them?
We can only hope, if we're very lucky and have been very good so the Emperor will bless us this mightly, that Orks will fly in and blow them up, and then we get to fight the Orks.
It’s interesting how many people just proclaim the game has no story at all but it’s obvious it just isnt told to you as straight forward as traditionally with other stories.
I honestly don't know if I've ever encountered a game that gives so much back story through pre-launch promos, and out of sequence. Which has been interesting and fun in my opinion!
@@Jo_Plays_Gamesyea i dig it leaves a lot of room for speculations aswell
listen you how you shout you are a warrior... i just imagine a very angry, ball frog or mouse.... who have a tooth pick as a sword...
Lol. I like that image!
@@Jo_Plays_Games its funny!
I hope we don’t kill Wolfer just yet. Im hoping he’ll be a sort of nemesis villain for us rejects/auric operatives. Not the main villain overall but someone we’ll battle and will get away from time to time as we increase in strength.
I agree. He was important enough to the Moebians to go back for. There's got to be more to his story.
The pep rally felt Khornate to me.
I don't know if I agree, but I like the IDEA.
I AM A WARRIOR! (dies in the first 20 seconds of an auric damnation mission.
Honestly, same.
Great informative video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Im wholly convinced the main protagonist is an Ogryn
i thought the sky reavers would be like pirates or gangs or something, not dinosaurs
I thought that exact same thing.
Why not both?
Nice as always!
Thank you!
My question what's with chaos undivided we seem to see as well
i never listen to the cutscenes till they shot the traitor, i was like who the hell was that? then i went to commissary and lady looked different i thought it was something to due with halloween🤡
It's easy to miss!
More darktide vids please
You got it, bebeeee!
Hopefully, Fatshark will finally begin to develop the story.
I feel like they've done a decent job developing the story, but not integrating the player into it. Alternatively you could say they have the plot down but not the story to accompany it as the main protagonist (the player) doesn't have much to do with anything yet. I hope that changes soon as well and we get flung more into the actual drama. The Emperor Protects.
again! another banger!
Thanks!
Loved this video!
Thank you!!
NEW VOX!!!
I'm so wrong! Lol
Lol that darktide trash monster squeel earned a chuckle out of me and a sub for you
Thanks! Mission accomplished if I make someone laugh.
Thanks for the video.
THANK YOU!
You're welcome!
7:13 : fuck, I thought Grendyl was her xD
Ha ha, lots of people do, it's definitely not just you and I can 100% see why! Her presentation in that world introduction is very "Head Bitch in Charge."
@@Jo_Plays_Games oh shit ! Genestealers don't steal souls... I'm afraid this invalidates the genestealers cult théorie xS

I AM A WARRIOR!!!!! 😁
New vox transmission, it wasn't a lictor unfortunately
: (
Hey, I'm always down to be wrong! The fun is the most important to part to me. And a big curveball is definitely fun!
@@Jo_Plays_Games I was convinced it was gonna be genestealers, ah well. What do you reckon it could be then, some sort of chaos sorcerer or something? Definitely sounds like a character of some kind
@@user-zp4ge3yp2o I have a few thoughts. I may need to revisit some dark tongue and other things to see if perhaps there was something there after all.
I'm wondering if this entity is something we've seen in another Tide game before.....
@@Jo_Plays_Games Not the return of Burblesplurge Splurgleburg!
The story components are there, but they way they explain and show it is freaking horrible.
Honestly the game really needs a story telling overhaul, and more missions, in a linear way, to tell the story. Then after you play the linear story type missions, you unlock the area as more of a "retake it" type story less mission.
I still think Grendyl smells like Tzeentch. Buncha blue faces and voices coming from a literal puppet?
👀
I agree. Plus the Seer Psyker's "Beloved," dreaming of the Impossible Fortress and hearing the whispers of "come to me?" Fuggedabbouddit.
@@Jo_Plays_Games and fucking with Nurgle IS his favorite pastime, after all.
😂 I love this video!!
Thanks so much!

Awww, thanks! I like you too!
Great story video, hated the random loud screaming
WHO AM I?
I AM Alpharius.
@@Jo_Plays_Games that do be a warrior
14 mins is a long time to say there is no story.
Love your videos, marry me 😂
Lol, I would consider your lovely proposal if I weren't already very happily married!
So now my question is what do you think is gonna happen now that they basically confirmed genestealers aren't a thing for the next update.
Well it's funny you ask, because I just got done scripting that video and it will be out later this week!
@@Jo_Plays_Games heck yeah can't wait!
