I had the honor of watching a prescreening of the Cabrini film. 🎥 As a Catholic woman, I believe this film is a beautiful masterpiece that depicts Mother Cabrini’s courage, hope, and strong faith in God all while exploring the themes of human dignity, Catholic social teaching, human free will, the gift of femininity, and the corporal works of mercy. Throughout the film, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini shows her dedication to upholding human dignity for all, especially the most vulnerable, the Italian immigrants of her time. Mother Cabrini was not only a champion for the dignity of the human person but also an exemplary figure of authenticity femininity (the feminine genius) and a role model for living out the corporal works of mercy. I would encourage all Catholics, especially Catholic women to go watch this film on March 8th, make it a “Catholic movie night out” with family and friends. 🍿 🎬 Let’s support more Catholic movies going mainstream in the box office and encouraging Alejandro Monteverde to make more amazing Catholic films for all.

I don't think that this was a "Catholic movie". I think a more realistic portrayal would have shown the prayer and devotions that the nuns would be incorporating into their lives on a daily basis. I think that this aspect was intentionally left out to appeal to a wider audience. The movie Fatima was much more Catholic than this.

I saw the film earlier today and was massively impressed. I'm sure there was ample poetic license taken at times but even if only a 10th of the information is real, Cabrini is still a massive inspiration. I left questioning what value have I added to the world and how could I act to make a positive impact. If that message is successfully transmitted to even a fraction of the viewers, what a better world we might have.

That is what I got from the promotion clip... a steady and repeated flow of criticism about the fact that she is a woman implying she wasn't capable. It felt more like picking at a wound because the dialogue is chosen and written that way... Men vs women. I truly hope that the main message people get, especially those with little or no faith, is one of hope and encouragement to do the difficult things and see the power of faith in a loving God.

I am so excited to see this movie! I attended Cabrini High School and a portion of our curriculum was focused on her history. We actually still use the building on Esplanade Avenue as classrooms, which was originally one of the first orphanages that she established. Sad to see the amount of anti-feminist comments. Mother Cabrini is a feminist. Feminism is merely the belief in social, economic, and political equality of the sexes. Despite so many people telling her that she would not be able to accomplish her goals because of her size (she was very short and seemingly fragile) she beat the odds. She kept advocating for her goals and proved all those who did not believe that she was capable wrong. Mother Cabrini has such a special place in my heart.

Cabrini was a powerful movie. I've seen it 4 times. Like you I didn't know anything about her. So I ordered her biography from either Tan or Ignatius publishing. So far it is a very good book. It was originally published in 1945. Now this is where it made me look at the movie through different eyes. Nothing about the movie at least the first hour or so matches the biography, but I have to read more. Again, it was great inspiring movie but light on facts. Check out the biography for sure. P.S. Why did the sisters not pray or go to Mass? Why were there no crucifixes anywhere? There were crosses but not one crucifix. The only time Mother Cabrini went into a Church in New York was to confront the Bishop.
I really think Mother Cabrini in real life had devotion to the Blessed Mother and the saints but that was not depicted at all.
It was beautifully done but it wasn’t very Catholic, in my opinion.

Even when she met with the pope and, with the archbishop there were no pictures of Jesus or Mary. The only crucifix was the one she wore. I spoke with other Catholic friends who agreed with me.

"The story’s trappings of priests, bishops, and habited nuns are, for the most part, mere trappings. Cabrini almost never mentions God even when trying to convince the clergy to support her work, and is virtually never seen praying, even when at a deathbed. At one point she tells her sisters that they can do “all things in Him Who strengthens us”, but far more emphasis is placed on her own strength as a woman.
Churches are a setting for conversation or confrontation rather than prayer. There is one scene that begins with the implication that Cabrini has been sitting in a chapel all night, and we can assume she has been praying, but even this is the starting point for a conversation that is totally focused on her own drive and determination, in which another character refers to Cabrini’s habit as a “suit of armor” which seems to refer more to her own womanly strength than to her consecration to God." "This is typical of the film’s humanistic slant on Cabrini’s social work: while we are told that Italian immigrants should be helped because they are human beings and indeed children of God, and even that at the hour of our death we will be asked what we did for the poor, there is very little about bringing them the Gospel." top five movies ?
Where was the spiritual aspect of Mother Cabrini in the movie?
Never once showing her in prayer, never requesting prayer, never once demonstrating a rosary, mass etc
    " I am woman" !
the persecution was not due to being a Catholic, it was because she was a woman, an Itialian
In the movie, it was an inspirational woman in what a woman can do, not what God can do through a woman.
    missing many Saintly components
"i can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" not because she was an underdog, recent immigrant and a woman.

I am not Catholic, but a Christian. the trailers kept popping up on my FB feed and YT ads, and I could not get enough of watching them. I went to the cinema March 9th and watched the movie. Her story was amazing. She definitely lived by this scripture Deuteronomy 28:13 The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom./ the fact that she refused to listen to the 'middle man' sending back messages from the top, whether it was the Pope, the Mayor or the Italian senate, etc. was inspiring. She would demand an audience with those at the head, and she always came out on top. I loved how she never let her physical affirmaties bring her down - she just kept pressing on.

People must think more deeply about faith and how it fills our lives and surrounds us. I was almost afraid to hear your review because some folks were quick to jump on the bandwagon of "needs more God." Your eloquent comments prove that you understand in depth, as I believe I understand, that it's the whisper of God, the Holy Spirit, that moves us into action. In that regard, there is no scripting needed because her actions and results are what made the difference. May God Bless Everyone involved in this film, as it has been a grace and blessing to anyone who hears.

I'm not Catholic. I saw Cabrini on its release day and I think it's an excellent film, but no way would I call it "Catholic", and maybe not even "religious". Rather, it is almost entirely about one-on-one personal relationships and politics.

I have mixed feelings too, the fact that they are releasing it on "international women's day" is off putting and I also got feminist vibe and realizing that there is a movement trying to replace Columbus Day with Cabrini day instead it is just not right.
There is also a really good movie about Mother Cabrini from a couple of years ago from EWTN I highly recommend.

It's a Top Five CINEMA priority for me this year.
Right up there with Kevin Costner's "Horizon: Chapters 1 & 2", Francis Ford Coppola's "Megalopolis", and Terrence Malick's Christ film "The Way of the Wind".
Real works of authentic art which expresses resonant truth.
No be honest, I know of nothing else coming out that really even matters.

Such a very sobering film. One of the best I have ever seen. Period.
Viewers come away perhaps asking what they can do to help make our world a better place. Donate to or support a charitable organization that helps the downtrodden.
Treat everyone with love and respect.
    Be a Christlike individual.

This second Angel studios movie that really is borderline Hollyweird. Cabrini comes across as a zero spriritual, zero catholic, 100% feminist social justice warrior. Sad to see that Angel has gone the way of hollyweird, never again to pay for a movie ticket for them. Compromise and go the way of hollyweird. Long, and really devoid of giving God and His church their due.

I just watched an EWTN segment on Mother Cabrini done several years ago. One surprising item they mentioned was that in the schools that Mother Cabrini started, she would not allow any children to attend that school if their parents were not married! The presenters (Bob and Penny Lord) of this segment said that Mother Cabrini did not back down on this issue, and many of the parents relented and got married. And according to the segment, once they got married, many of them turned out to be her strongest supporters. I found that fascinating. Evidently, she held to high morals.

Romans 10:14 they must 'hear' the gospel not see it. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is that he died for the sins of the world and forgiveness is a free gift through faith in him Ephesians 2:8-9. The way the Gospel is preached is presented throughout New Testament scriptures.
I agree with this comment that if God was never mentioned that is very much sad and a horrible deletion.

The film's director Alejandro Monteverde and writer Rod Barr done a fantastic job of illuminating Saint Cabriini's life and difficulties. Magnificently hinting at the invisible hand of God directing her life. She represented the three theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity in the movie. Throughout the movie, the director shows us flashbacks of Cabrini drowning as a young child in the water. She finds herself drowning in a sea of hopelessness once more. She is found praying meditatively in a Catholic church while surrounded by all of Christ's symbols. The fall is the subject of her diligent philanthropic work with the underprivileged. Her remorseful friend shows up to support her. The scene immediately returns to the young child drowning, and we see a man saving the girl's life by reaching out with his arms while the water covers his face. Again, those all-encompassing, unseen arms give her strength, and she summons the courage to address the Italian parliament, embarrassing them with a allusion to the day of judgment found in the Gospels. She thus succeeds in obtaining funds for the underprivileged Italian immigrants living in America.
