I was sick in a hospital attached to Cabrini Chapel in Chicago. All of my family and friends prayed for me in her chapel. I know my life was saved because of these prayers.
I just took my 89 year old grandma to see it. She is an immigrant from Italy. We both loved it. She did say some parts upset her - how the Italians were treated - but it is good for me, her granddaughter, to understand what they experienced. As Italian American Catholics, we highly recommend it!
How did your grandmother want Italians to be treated ? If your grandmother is 89 that means she was born in 1935 - during Mussolini 's administration. Immigrants should be grateful for being allowed into the USA let alone receive any charity.

I'm in Australia and my family migrated from Italy in the late 60s at the Australian govts invitation as they wanted skilled labour. We weren't called daegos, guineas and the other sub human names the Americans (who were migrants themselves ) called those poor early Italian migrants . Quite upsetting to watch. It also gave me a better appreciation of how quickly the early arrived Italians needed to assimilate in Americato to avoid the severe discrimination tactics of the time. Watch the movie again and focus on the New York city mayor to appreciate my comment. I have relatives in Chicago who barely speak a word of Italian and now I'm understanding why. The Italianess has been stamped right out of them. Very sad.

@@hamie7624 well, I never said it in those words, but on those days when someone has work to do and just isn’t feeling it, or has some physical illness, which isn’t critical, but one could have crawled into bed without feeling guilty, one caters to a strength in oneself, and didn’t cater to not feeling great, and tending to their “weakness” instead of using their strength to persevere. That’s how I see that statement.
My great great grandfather came from Sardinia through Ellis Island, so I appreciated the movie in this aspect. I think the producers missed the opportunity to connect her trust in God.
My wife, who is Italian, and I saw Cabrini yesterday and it was stunning! a story that not even many Catholics don't know. Everything about the film is 5 stars: the story, the acting, the cinematography. I took Cinematography in college, this film is again STUNNING.

The movie Cabrini didn’t make me cry from what I remember… but your comment did! My Dad’s ancestors (and thus mine too) immigrated to the US from France about 200 years ago. I’ve seen old letters in french that demonstrated their incredible faith. France has such a rich history of saints and wonderful Catholics. Take a dive into it. St. Thérèse of Lisieux has been an amazing friend to millions of Catholics for over 100 years. I suggest reading her writings, as they’ve helped many grow in intimacy with Our Lord. My oldest sister is named after St. Thérèse, as her writings were an immense help to my Father as a young man, as he was trying to figure out the place Catholicism had in his life as he studied biological sciences in college and was surrounded by so many people who didn’t believe in God. But through his own family, St. Thérèse, my Mother (who he met at college), and Catholics he kept his faith… and it grew so he could pass it along to us, his eight children. And he know has 23 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren! God Bless you - and with joyful hearts we will welcome you to the family on Easter. By the way… I just noticed that May 17, 2025 will be the 100th anniversary of the canonization of St. Thérèse! I now feel inspired to gather other family members to travel to Lisieux for the occasion! - and of course visit other places like Paris and Lourdes too!
My husband and I also sobbed. For us, it was because we experience in our world and country a profound LOSS of faith, integrity, morals, ethics, loyalty, dedication, love, family, education, etc. we were sobbing at our own funeral.
Watching the young boy console Mother Cabrini after his own brother passed was exceptionally moving. Her love for them helped to form his genuine compassion. Great Movie. The real guidance of God was not lost on us Catholic Insiders! ❤

100% AGREE!!! My wife and I saw it last night and we both loved it but my first comment as we walked out was I’m surprised there wasn’t more praying. That was disappointing.
It would have been wonderful to highlight that she did her work for God. The movie really seemed to stress "nobody tells me where I don't belong" versus "God has a job for me and I am full of love for Him who I serve."
It would have been better to see her acknowledge that the work she did was because of her great love for and devotion to God. Not the emphasis the movie put on defying where someone else said she did or didn't belong.
Totally agree.. speaking as the daughter of Italian Immigrants this film definitely touched my soul.. my father especially suffered when he came over in the 1960's--still there was prejudice --he saw his brother in law called a "dog" in front of him as they were doing landscaping work for some rich people in the North shore of Chicago suburbs.. some people are just hateful, but you cannot let that stop you.. You just keep working and move on.. .. This movie was 5 stars but needed more GOD!! St. Frances Xavier Cabrini was a HOLY Saint due to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in her Heart.. she had a deep devotion to the Sacred Heart and that was not even mentioned in the movie. still, the movie is a must SEE for everyone!! You’re spot on, Father. Mother Cabrini is one of my patron saints. She attributed her success, all of it, to the amount of time she spent in front of the Blessed Sacrament. God’s grace supplied her real strength. I was so grateful that there was a movie about her. And at the same time, I was sad to not see more of where her power came from…God. I cried too. It was implicit in her dedication and service to God's children that her actions were prayers as well. Also, everyone knows that all nuns pray and have great faith in God. The movie showed that Cabrini's faith was so just by the fact that her faith "moved mountains."
I cried too! The perseverance, faith, and knowing deep in her spirit she was called and fashioned for such a time. Once the breakthrough came, she was ready to carry the mantle of building throughout the world! I wept deeply!
I teared up at least 4 times!!! And I know part of it was convicting me because this woman does ALL of this tremendous work while constantly being absolutely and completely exhausted. But a lot of what made me tear up is the sheer power of love! I mean every time she faced an absolute brink wall of resistance... she stopped. Pondered a moment. And then kept fighting with the deepest and most powerful love possible. And love like that... it is spiritually, emotionally and physically beautiful! And that's why I teared up. At the end of the movie I said to myself "This!... THIS is the church I serve and love!" The church who has the most world wide presence of love and care for those in need.
Wow Mike! As a 77 yr. old Baptist, I wished as you did that the movie would have shown what we both knew Cabrini surly took all these challenges to Our Heavenly Father. That being said I feel the reason you went into the chapel to finish the movie was because of the complete uniqueness of the story line. We are all hungry for more of what the movie was about. God is in charge and how we, all Christians, long to see it once again on the big screen.
I thought the movie demonstrated her faith very well. She behaved in circumstances she had never encountered and behaved in ways she never had before. And she spoke the language that was necessary in order to be heard. It still happens today and relying on our faith lets us speak the language necessary in order to be heard. Yes, faith. Listening to God’s way. Sometimes it takes muscle put in a gentle but serious manner. I thought the movie presented a lot of God’s way. I think she surprised herself on accession because it was not her normal behavior, it was her faith. Yes, she listened within her faith as God wanted her to. It was fantastic. It was belief.

actually, I found that anecdote to be annoying. Immigrants should feel grateful for anything that they receive & shouldn't feel entitled to demand more out of a system to which that haven't paid into
Actually, this scene about the fabric bothered me. I grew up poor, and my mother made all of our clothes, and we could not afford expensive material. But we never looked shabby. And I always felt special, because my clothes were beautifully and lovingly made and looked just as good as any department store clothes that you could buy. The choices of fabric In the movie were not between decent fabric and rags!

But we got gifts from Family freands that war not poor, and they didi not bay cheap clothes for us because we war poor! they gifted us with Nike and gap, because they wanted to make a teen girl happy!( in the late 80’ and early90’) it was for me like a miracle. I never felt poor! we war 5 kids, granny and parents, very happy family. I was grateful for the clothes that mom made and for the gifted clothes from Friends and family! All of it was charitable and with grace! Thank be to God!

We shouldn’t be looking to cut corners of our own giving nor demand anything of others’ responses; these are distractions to what He asks of us. If we make our serving truly about Him, we should be looking solely inward to our call to give our all. For they are the face of God; God who deserves our all! ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ -Matthew 25: 44-45- “Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you." -Luke 6:38- With Cabrini’s intent too, was she nodding to the fact these kids felt less. She recognized they were as much of God’s children as any other child. These kids needed to know this Truth. Dressing the part was a language that could communicate just that; this was a visual language they understood.

Irish people spent generations paying their tithes & taxes to build up society & it seems unfair that Italians who still think they run the Roman Empire to coopt & take over what other people built
We are fortunate to have a relic of St. Mother Cabrini in the altar of our parish here in Idaho. She was an amazing saint and is most worthy of the request: St. Mother Cabrini, please pray for us.
We have her body in an altar enclosed in glass at the Cabrini Shrine in Washington Heights in NYC. She was found to be partially incorrupt and her skeleton is covered by her dress but her face and hands had to be made of wax. Her heart was sent to Rome.
I so much cherish Mother Cabrini’s divine example for my life and living as one of God’s children. For me, actions speak louder than words and her faith and relationship with Our Savior is so clear in the presentation of her actions in the various aspects of her life with Christ.
From Mary: I saw the movie yesterday and I am crying on the inside still. This movie was not story about a Catholic but about a women who did God's work against great odds. My husband who is not Catholic was deeply moved by this movie. It is a piece of history we need to know about.
I just returned from watching Cabrini and I was very surprised. The acting is very well done and the use of both English and Italian really adds to the movie. I also thought that the sets, costumes, and cinematography seta a realistic and accurate feel to this period piece. This is what a "empowerment" movie should really look like. A person who dedicates themselves to make the world better, and not just for personal gain. I very much hope people don't sleep on this one.

I attended St. Donato Parochial School in the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia, from 1962 to 1970. My teachers were nuns from Mother Cabrini's order, The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I learned a lot about Mother Cabrini and have had a spiritual connection to her that is still going on today. Nuns who had worked with her would often come to visit us in the classroom and would tell wondrous stories about Mother Cabrini.
As the Granddaughter of Italian immigrants from New York and Philly, this truly hit me to the core. I cried for my people, for Mother Cabrini and all she had to go through. With the grace of God could she accomplish these amazing things. God Bless you Father Mike in all you do !
Loved it! Proud of my Catholic faith after being away for over 20 years. Made me realize that God calls all of us to become saints. Even when we suffer in this world God is always there showing us love and trying to make us saints! Saint cabrini pray for us

I cried like 4 times! Towards the end watching the pictures of the real nuns and the mass at St Peter's square during her canonization made me cry the most. I thought about the power of God working through her the whole time and it was so touching for me. I went with some friends including a priest and we all cried during the movie. I loved it❤️
My daughter and I went to see the movie yesterday and we too wept through the entire movie. We were so moved by the force, the bravery, the empowerment of this woman of God. God's graces truly moved her through every moment of her life. Both sides of my family were devout Catholic Italian immigrants during this time period and I know they were faced with so much hatred and discrimination, but they did not let that discourage them. They knew that God would help them so they worked very hard, learned the language, became citizens, found jobs, built their own homes and raised large families. They have been gone a long time, but I have never forgotten them and their struggle and they will be in my heart until I die. And hopefully I will see them again in Heaven.
I was at her shrine on Ash Wednesday. Lit a candle for a special intention. It is a beautiful location in golden Colorado. You can light virtual candles for any special intention. 🙏🏼.
Father Mike, I agree with you. I posted this comment on an interview with the actress that played St. Mother Cabrini: Sad that the interview is about the power of a woman and what she did. Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini was doing the Will of God; she never would have bragged about what she was able to accomplish as a woman; she would have given all the glory to God. "We must pray without tiring, for the salvation of mankind does not depend on material success; nor on sciences that cloud the intellect. The film showed a nun who was God's servant. The Sisters of St Joseph taught us that work is prayer when it is serving others as God intended. The film show just that. All nuns pray and would not have become nuns if they had no faith in God. Cabrini's faith and prayer are a given. The movie never hid the fact that she was a nun. The movie showed a nun working tirelessly to serve the poor, despite having poor health. Cabrini's work was prayer and her accomplishments were proof that " faith can move mountains."
My daughter and I went to see the movie this weekend. First of all, we were surprised at the number of people in the theater, more than we expected! They came to see part of the great work of a Catholic saint, one of our own❤ like Fr Mike says, one of our sisters, Mother Cabrini🙏 I'm sure her zeal and determination to serve poor immigrants came from a life prayer, moved by the Holy Spirit. May we be moved to serve the needy living around us., even in the smallest of ways, but with great love! Treating everyone with dignity. ❤
Fr. Michael, I experienced the same thing. Towards the end of the movie I was so emotional and just cried. I also cannot explain why. A movie well worth watching.❤

Your crying was probably seeing the relentlessness of Gods grace, wanting His Will to be done and choosing the most unlikely person to do His work and do it in His way. His grace is overwhelming and when I think of what he accomplishes in us, through his grace, it brings me to tears. The Almighty, Powerful God loves us to the point of folly. Who wouldn’t cry at the thought of His tenderness and love towards us. What a wonderful and awesome God we serve. All glory to Him!!!!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, Fr. Mike. I see your point about there needing to be "more God" in the film, but I also saw SO much of God's grace being poured through Mother Cabrini. Seemingly any ordinary person would have been stopped, held back, sent away, etc, but God clearly had a special plan for His servant, Francesca Cabrini, and nothing was ever going to stop that.
My youngest daughter and i watched this movie Friday in a sold out theater. It was immersive and left us wanting more, to continue to walk with St Cabrini in her mission of the world.
Thank you for bringing the fact that God guided Cabrini in all she accomplished, this isn't emphasized in this film! Thank you again! We owe all to God!
Although not completely Catholic this movie meets the world where it’s at. While not being overly religious it has the Catholic faith at its core without being overly pushy. Anyone that’s Catholic already knows how much more religious she was but this movie attracts everyone and anyone of many faiths and beliefs by not being too “religious” I cried too watching this, and wasn’t sure why. Clearly the Holy Spirit is at work in this film.
Your comment about meeting the world where it is and that the movie attracts everyone makes sense. It may be more important just to reach people and keep them interested instead of going beyond what they can understand now.
So many people I know who are not Catholic have raved about the movie. There is no doubt its Catholic, they know, but this is about getting to the point of the heavy lifting it takes of the faithful.
Father M1ike, I saw this movie with my friend for a early birthday gift. I am of Italian American desent so a lot of the prejustice St. Cabrini suffered from I experieced into the 1970's. I can't believe her strength, courage, and faith to move forward with her projects. She gave respect and demanded respect. Her faith in God gave her the will to accomplish her mission. My aunt has been a sister with the Cabrini order for 40 years.She became a nun later in life she was a nurse in Chicago .We are an Italian family from the south side of chicago.He’s been in Africa as a missionary and is 80 now.They started many clinics there.The sisters are all in serving God.

I just love you Fr Mike! You found a way to bless us with this review of a secular movie. Some say it flows as a social justice movie rather than a testament to faith in God. I tend to think Catholics will benefit the most as we, knowing the lives of the saints & their knee time, see the power of grace & love in this movie. We do not believe in human strength, rather in the power of answering the call of God! No doubt she attended Mass & prayed for guidance from her blessed mother through the rosary… the true force behind her! I am in gratitude for Angel Studios highlighting the life of a great saint. Fr Mike, I cried watching only the film clips I have seen up to today. So I can imagine exactly why you could cry while watching the film!!!! I live in Italy so the film won't debut here tomorrow like in the US. I believe you cried because you could see, feel, perceive the power of God in this amazing, powerful, Holy Spirit filled saint, Santa Francesca Saverio Cabrini !!!! We will be going to visit the Shrine dedicated to Madre (Mother) Cabrini located in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, this month, my family and friends from our parish. What a Gift from God that we can make this pilgrimage not far from where we live in Monza! I encourage all in the US to visit Mother Cabrini's Shrine in NY near The Cloisters museum!! I am eagerly anticipating seeing "Cabrini". It fills me with optimism that faith based entertainment, whether it is the riveting streaming series "The Chosen", the compelling and heart wrenching "Sound of Freedom", or now, "Cabrini", can rival other content from Hollywood when it comes to dramatic content and production value. For far too long, Christians have had to settle for entertainment content that had cheesy and overly preachy dialog, had poor acting, and looked cheap. It is high time that our faith was portrayed in the best possible light in film and TV.
So does the movie. It should be nominated for Best Picture, Director, Cinematography, Sound, Best Original Song sung by Andrea Bocelli and his daughter.
Agree 100% with your analysis 👍🏻 I came away with a disconcerting feeling even though I really enjoyed the movie. Upon reflection I realized it was because Mother Cabrini’s deep spirituality was missing. I wanted more glimpses into her personal prayer life. My husband is a deacon and preached his homily on Mother Cabrini purposely adding in quotes of hers that expressed her intense faith and love for Jesus and His Sacred Heart ❤️🔥
We plan to see the movie tomorrow afternoon. I’m thinking you may have been moved to tears because the waves of immigrants continue to come to this country today. They face many of the same difficulties now as those who came previously. Without making my opinions appear “too far right,”please keep in mind that the earlier generations were admitted after making legal application to do so. They wanted to become citizens of The United States of America. People who are overrunning our boarders today are not necessarily applying for citizenship. I have great concern for what is happening. If one is willing to break the law to be here, they are already admitting that our laws are insignificant to them and they will do whatever they like to achieve what they want. God help us all.
We saw it this afternoon. It had me often in tears. We all have the mission of taking care of the least of our brothers and sisters. And I wrote these words before hearing you did the same, Father. WOW.
I want to see it this week. I am grateful that these types of movies are made and hope that people watching them would want to know more and seek more about God and how to live out a life of faith after watching them. We need to see and experience more faith, more hope, more love to counteract all the negativity, cynicism and hate in this world. Let our love and light shine!
Not enough God? Totally agree with you Fr Mike! The filmmakers avoided showing prayer, the word Catholic and even the name of Pope Leo XIII, instead they focused on her struggles as a woman accomplishing the impossible. Thank goodness they added the postscript at the end of her canonization with the map of her accomplishments. In our weakness is His strength made known. Praise God for giving America this wonderful saint! The movie was a high quality film with great actors, scenery and sound.
I enjoyed the movie however I felt the emphasis was on “girl power“ Rather than the power of God especially when she said, at the end of the movie that Men couldn’t do what women do
I remember learning from one of my favorite English teachers who taught that good writing won’t be explicit. It won’t say “It was summertime.” Instead, it sets the scene where the reader can gather information from all the descriptive language eliciting the reader’s senses that would conclude it was summertime. This movie was filled with Scripture-- from what it exemplified, what visuals it chose, to actual quotes used. Its entire heart was Him, Our Lord. Cabrini, was a display of what a faithful servant who reflected Him and His Works looks like. It did so faithfully, reverently, no “shock value” or explicit content necessary.
@@marylouross2431 - I can see how one would see that. Closer to the movie release date, and this release date being in Women's History Month, it leaned on that angle for marketing. After seeing the movie, I believe this intention behind the promo was to reach a wider scope of audience who can approach a faith based movie with more openness as it appears to be but a human experience-- then leaving, with greater understanding of persons with deep faith. I think the one explicit line that captured all that Cabrini tried to demonstrate with us, as an audience, but so too, her adversaries was at the climax of the film. When she "puts on His coat of armor" via NUN vestments, enters a chamber of Italian political adversaries who immediately discredit her for her pertaining-demographic, in which she pushes back to strip herself of these distractions. She presented herself, not as “Cabrini” or even a woman, but (to paraphrase quote) “a voice to the voiceless.” With that mayor then, when she entered his chambers likewise and won, he couldn't fully accept it on the terms that he lost to a woman. Despite her win for Our Lord's mission, at the end of the day, Cabrini could not be seen as anything other than by her biology. Thus, from where he stood, he had to pad his own ego with the statement he did: “It's a shame that you're a woman, mother. You would have made an excellent man.” His lens was still not resolved, nor would it be so quickly within this quick exchange, but it was for this reason he would only admit defeat to a “man” like woman. Thus, she sought to correct this lens by saying “men could never do what we* do.” (*Not “I”- “we”, as in, she is no “exception” to any rule). It was a zinger. It used his very thought of the differences between men and women, and while he sought to give men ultimate credit for doing anything capable, she flipped the script to wake him up from his muddied lens. This zinger was merely a tool for humbling since the only "language" he could see and speak from were the differences between men and women. He wouldn't understand anything deeper than this human piece, thus it's a bit futile to proceed that way. But perhaps with this humbling from Cabrini, there's hope he possibly could obtain the greater God-Centered wisdom in the future. She seemed confident, and he did smile at the retort; perhaps she foresaw change and clung to this hope as well.

The Sisters of St. Joseph taught us that work is prayer, when it is dedicated to serving God's children and purpose. Cabrini worked selflessly and tirelessly at serving God's purpose. The movie was about a nun and it is a given that all nuns pray and have a strong faith in God and devotion to him.
There was a scene when Cabrini and the other nuns sat at a table in their convent in Codogna, Italy and they said a prayer with a picture of Jesus on the wall behind Cabrini. And there was also a shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the orphanage, the one when the inspector came in, it was after the scene Cabrini was talking to a man whose nephew was arrested for no reason and Vittoria, the prostitute, carried flowers over to Jesus' shrine and smiled.

For me, it was tears of sadness for how inhumane people can be to each other, and tears of joy for how Saint Frances Cabrini kept her faith in God and good people to help her with the vital work she was doing. And I loved her closing line! :-)
I went to see it this afternoon. It was beautiful. I don’t know how faithful it was to accounts of her life, but I want to learn more about her. I’m not going to spoil it for anyone. Let’s just say that the last few scenes were powerful. I saw several other historical persons in it. Mother Cabrini, pray for us!

Dear Fr. Mike, I grew up in Poughkeepsie NY. We lived across the Hudson River from West Park NY where Mother Cabrini built her orphanage (Asylum). Both sides of grandparents where immigrants from 1903. Although the Cabrini movie was good (and it did make me cry especially thinking of my grandmas and grandpas) it missed the mark on how she was filled with God’s gifts. She also did miracles. My grandfather was a recipient. When she was digging for the well, she asked my grandfather to help move boulders. So he went with a few friends ( could have been uncles) to blast the rock. When the fuse was set they ran and hid but the dynamite didn’t blow. My grandpa told the others to wait and he went to see why the fuse didn’t work. As he was getting close, Mother Cabrini called his name. He turned around to her and the dynamite blew!!! Not one piece hit my grandpa. ❤ When her body was exhumed my eldest aunt was asked to be there. She told me she remembered a strong and beautiful scent of roses that came out of the coffin. This is my beautiful memory of Mother Cabrini. A strong, determined yet religious woman set out to do God’s Will. And her love of humanity, not only Italians, reached all over the world!
People who don't believe in Him aren't aware, I don't think, of the incredible power He has and the tremendous good that can come from Him. Thank you for sharing you were moved to tears, and watching it in His house!

Since it’s from the same studio that made the chosen, I watched the last two episodes of the chosen in the theater on Saturday. There is something going wrong in my family right now. And I’m trying very hard to deal with it without saying anything about it. I tried and sobbed through the whole 2 1/2 hours at the end of the chosen season four. Some of it deserved every bit of tears that I shed but some of it was the outlet I needed for the pain I was feeling. We want to see Cabrini. Especially since we grew up in the South side of Chicago and we know what those projects were like that that bought her name. If nothing else I’ve it it doesn’t matter who sees me or I try to cry quietly, but knows that I’m crying it only matters that what is on the screen is getting to me and I understand it and it hurts me to see it. I hope it makes me a better person because of it.

I am a Dominican assistant and serve as she would have wanted. I sat through the movie with another Dominican that gave as I have as our occupation. Both of us 80 or older. We both cried through the entire movie. Why? Because it was just as we cared for the underdogs. We could have one good conversation with you if you would come visit. Lots of Dominicans that have had to stretch within God’s will to help others. That is what we do. Come visit. You will love us. Central Illinois. Loved the movie it was done well.

Have watched Cabrini at the cinema. Just released in Australia last two days. Like Fr. Mike…. I cried almost non-stop… It’s Moving… the inhuman conditions of the poor immigrants living in one of the richest and most advanced Countries on Earth…. Let alone the racism and intolerance . I come from an Italian Immigrant Family here in Australia…. But many of my parent’s relatives immigrated to the USA in the late. 1800’s . The Boys were only 14 years old. I heard many stories … But this film really brought it even closer. Clearly, this formidable woman, Nun, Saint was led by the fire of the Holy Spirit. This was not touched upon in the Movie, perhaps because it was made to teach a broad audience, not just Catholic, Christian movie-goers. Regardless, this movie is INSPIRING and cannot fail to make one truly examine one’s own life and ask oneself: How can I Make a difference? How can I contribute to making a better world for those who have not had my privileges…. ? All in all it’s a story that inspires unrelenting Faith, Courage and Fortitude in the face of any and all adversity.

I am so pleased to have entertainment that I want to watch and not blush or be shocked by what goes on the screen. I understand that they may not delve into Dogma or into Mother's prayer life. I was so overwhelmed with her Determination, Strength, Grace, Goodness and Love. She is an Inspiration for All that seeks Hope when a situation seems hopeless. I was telling my husband about the movie Cabrini and had the same feelings that Fr Mike Schmitz expressed in his review! I cried through a lot of the movie (as he related that he, Fr Mike, did)and I think it was sorrow over sin that had cast these immigrants to the curb. I cried because of the realization of the sincere love of Jesus in that he sent this beautiful Saint to, literally, feed his sheep. And I cried because the Holy Spirit was not proclaimed as Mother Cabrini’s strength, nor was her love shown to be a result of #1 Christ’s love for her (and all of his creation), and #2 her devout love of Jesus’s Sacred Heart. It was hinted at but a non-Christian might not pick up on that truth. For those who don't know God intimately, they may see Mother Cabrini merely as a woman of great inner strength and resolve, ready to help the needy. I.E. she could be seen as solely an incredible humanitarian, and we, within the church, know that even great resolve to do good may not come to fruition... at least not sustained fruition, without the blessing of Jesus. All in all though, a tremendous film, especially when you know the One who plants the seeds of love. Another thing that I find incredible was her personal strength in the face of her physical limitations. Just another nod to the fact that God does not always choose the able but enables the chosen! A last note is that Jesus used a woman, and we all know that, especially in those days, women were discounted and viewed, often, as irrelevant. Praise be to God forever. St. Cabrini pray for us.
As a child, I remember visiting the Mother Cabrini Shrine in Golden, CO. with my grandparents and parents. We climbed a gravel path to get to the top of the hill, today there are concrete steps so it is more accessible. I so appreciated this film in telling her story. Her faith is the driving force behind her courageous decisions to push forward amid obstacles. I'm just happy I can go to the movies to see these stories emerge. Thank for your eloquent review.
Right on Fr Mike.... I loved it BUT I kept wondering WHY it didn't include scenes of her in prayer. I know as a saint and as a very sick individual trying to accomplish the impossible she most certainly was on her knees daily praying with all her heart! Done of what she accomplish would have been possible without praying to our Father for HELP to help those in most need and bring the light of Christ into souls. Why did they leave that critical element OUT?
Watch Raymond Arroyo's interview with the man who actually knew Mother Cabrini. His answer to this question was "her whole life was a prayer". (For what it's worth)
Absolutely agree that we needed to see Mother Cabrini pray more and bring faith to the front and center of this movie but as you mentioned, Father Mike, it was not written as a Catholic movie. My sister and I loved it too! We did cry at the end and were deeply moved throughout the movie at the struggles of so many. Unfortunately, immigrants continue with there struggles to date. Fr Mike, i think when we are moved to tears it;s experiencing the grace of God, the light reaches within us. A profound connection that ignites a passion to who we really are. Sometimes we get glimpses and it re-ignites the love of God within us all. Being alive, knowing God, in all his creation.
This explanation does seem to feet my experience when I got tears rolling down, I think it was adoration ( not sure exactly what english translation is ). I could not tell there was anything different or special, except that there was a sense of peace. I might have to look a bit deeper into this.

I was sick in a hospital attached to Cabrini Chapel in Chicago. All of my family and friends prayed for me in her chapel. I know my life was saved because of these prayers.

I just took my 89 year old grandma to see it. She is an immigrant from Italy. We both loved it. She did say some parts upset her - how the Italians were treated - but it is good for me, her granddaughter, to understand what they experienced. As Italian American Catholics, we highly recommend it!
How did your grandmother want Italians to be treated ? If your grandmother is 89 that means she was born in 1935 - during Mussolini 's administration. Immigrants should be grateful for being allowed into the USA let alone receive any charity.

It also gave me a better appreciation of how quickly the early arrived Italians needed to assimilate in Americato to avoid the severe discrimination tactics of the time. Watch the movie again and focus on the New York city mayor to appreciate my comment. I have relatives in Chicago who barely speak a word of Italian and now I'm understanding why. The Italianess has been stamped right out of them. Very sad.

My wife, who is Italian, and I saw Cabrini yesterday and it was stunning! a story that not even many Catholics don't know. Everything about the film is 5 stars: the story, the acting, the cinematography. I took Cinematography in college, this film is again STUNNING.

The movie Cabrini didn’t make me cry from what I remember… but your comment did! My Dad’s ancestors (and thus mine too) immigrated to the US from France about 200 years ago. I’ve seen old letters in french that demonstrated their incredible faith. France has such a rich history of saints and wonderful Catholics. Take a dive into it. St. Thérèse of Lisieux has been an amazing friend to millions of Catholics for over 100 years. I suggest reading her writings, as they’ve helped many grow in intimacy with Our Lord. My oldest sister is named after St. Thérèse, as her writings were an immense help to my Father as a young man, as he was trying to figure out the place Catholicism had in his life as he studied biological sciences in college and was surrounded by so many people who didn’t believe in God. But through his own family, St. Thérèse, my Mother (who he met at college), and Catholics he kept his faith… and it grew so he could pass it along to us, his eight children. And he know has 23 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren!

By the way… I just noticed that May 17, 2025 will be the 100th anniversary of the canonization of St. Thérèse! I now feel inspired to gather other family members to travel to Lisieux for the occasion! - and of course visit other places like Paris and Lourdes too!

My husband and I also sobbed. For us, it was because we experience in our world and country a profound LOSS of faith, integrity, morals, ethics, loyalty, dedication, love, family, education, etc. we were sobbing at our own funeral.
Watching the young boy console Mother Cabrini after his own brother passed was exceptionally moving. Her love for them helped to form his genuine compassion. Great Movie. The real guidance of God was not lost on us Catholic Insiders! ❤

It would have been wonderful to highlight that she did her work for God. The movie really seemed to stress "nobody tells me where I don't belong" versus "God has a job for me and I am full of love for Him who I serve."
It would have been better to see her acknowledge that the work she did was because of her great love for and devotion to God. Not the emphasis the movie put on defying where someone else said she did or didn't belong.
Totally agree.. speaking as the daughter of Italian Immigrants this film definitely touched my soul.. my father especially suffered when he came over in the 1960's--still there was prejudice --he saw his brother in law called a "dog" in front of him as they were doing landscaping work for some rich people in the North shore of Chicago suburbs.. some people are just hateful, but you cannot let that stop you.. You just keep working and move on.. .. This movie was 5 stars but needed more GOD!! St. Frances Xavier Cabrini was a HOLY Saint due to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in her Heart.. she had a deep devotion to the Sacred Heart and that was not even mentioned in the movie. still, the movie is a must SEE for everyone!! You’re spot on, Father. Mother Cabrini is one of my patron saints. She attributed her success, all of it, to the amount of time she spent in front of the Blessed Sacrament. God’s grace supplied her real strength. I was so grateful that there was a movie about her. And at the same time, I was sad to not see more of where her power came from…God. I cried too. It was implicit in her dedication and service to God's children that her actions were prayers as well. Also, everyone knows that all nuns pray and have great faith in God. The movie showed that Cabrini's faith was so just by the fact that her faith "moved mountains."
I cried too! The perseverance, faith, and knowing deep in her spirit she was called and fashioned for such a time. Once the breakthrough came, she was ready to carry the mantle of building throughout the world! I wept deeply!
I teared up at least 4 times!!! And I know part of it was convicting me because this woman does ALL of this tremendous work while constantly being absolutely and completely exhausted. But a lot of what made me tear up is the sheer power of love! I mean every time she faced an absolute brink wall of resistance... she stopped. Pondered a moment. And then kept fighting with the deepest and most powerful love possible. And love like that... it is spiritually, emotionally and physically beautiful! And that's why I teared up. At the end of the movie I said to myself "This!... THIS is the church I serve and love!" The church who has the most world wide presence of love and care for those in need.
Wow Mike! As a 77 yr. old Baptist, I wished as you did that the movie would have shown what we both knew Cabrini surly took all these challenges to Our Heavenly Father. That being said I feel the reason you went into the chapel to finish the movie was because of the complete uniqueness of the story line. We are all hungry for more of what the movie was about. God is in charge and how we, all Christians, long to see it once again on the big screen.

I thought the movie demonstrated her faith very well. She behaved in circumstances she had never encountered and behaved in ways she never had before. And she spoke the language that was necessary in order to be heard. It still happens today and relying on our faith lets us speak the language necessary in order to be heard. Yes, faith. Listening to God’s way. Sometimes it takes muscle put in a gentle but serious manner. I thought the movie presented a lot of God’s way. I think she surprised herself on accession because it was not her normal behavior, it was her faith. Yes, she listened within her faith as God wanted her to. It was fantastic. It was belief.
My Nonna grew up in one of Mother Cabrini ‘s orphanages. It was the orphanage outside of Poughkeepsie, New York. I don’t remember the exact name.
I attended St. Frances Cabrini School, and church. Never knew where the name came from until today. Great and moving movie, beautifully done.

Actually, this scene about the fabric bothered me. I grew up poor, and my mother made all of our clothes, and we could not afford expensive material. But we never looked shabby. And I always felt special, because my clothes were beautifully and lovingly made and looked just as good as any department store clothes that you could buy. The choices of fabric In the movie were not between decent fabric and rags!

But we got gifts from Family freands that war not poor, and they didi not bay cheap clothes for us because we war poor! they gifted us with Nike and gap, because they wanted to make a teen girl happy!( in the late 80’ and early90’) it was for me like a miracle. I never felt poor! we war 5 kids, granny and parents, very happy family. I was grateful for the clothes that mom made and for the gifted clothes from Friends and family! All of it was charitable and with grace! Thank be to God!

We shouldn’t be looking to cut corners of our own giving nor demand anything of others’ responses; these are distractions to what He asks of us. If we make our serving truly about Him, we should be looking solely inward to our call to give our all. For they are the face of God; God who deserves our all!

With Cabrini’s intent too, was she nodding to the fact these kids felt less. She recognized they were as much of God’s children as any other child. These kids needed to know this Truth. Dressing the part was a language that could communicate just that; this was a visual language they understood.

We are fortunate to have a relic of St. Mother Cabrini in the altar of our parish here in Idaho. She was an amazing saint and is most worthy of the request: St. Mother Cabrini, please pray for us.
We have her body in an altar enclosed in glass at the Cabrini Shrine in Washington Heights in NYC. She was found to be partially incorrupt and her skeleton is covered by her dress but her face and hands had to be made of wax. Her heart was sent to Rome.
I so much cherish Mother Cabrini’s divine example for my life and living as one of God’s children. For me, actions speak louder than words and her faith and relationship with Our Savior is so clear in the presentation of her actions in the various aspects of her life with Christ.

This movie was not story about a Catholic but about a women who did God's work against great odds. My husband who is not Catholic was deeply moved by this movie. It is a piece of history we need to know about.
I just returned from watching Cabrini and I was very surprised. The acting is very well done and the use of both English and Italian really adds to the movie. I also thought that the sets, costumes, and cinematography seta a realistic and accurate feel to this period piece.
This is what a "empowerment" movie should really look like. A person who dedicates themselves to make the world better, and not just for personal gain. I very much hope people don't sleep on this one.

I attended St. Donato Parochial School in the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia, from 1962 to 1970. My teachers were nuns from Mother Cabrini's order, The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I learned a lot about Mother Cabrini and have had a spiritual connection to her that is still going on today. Nuns who had worked with her would often come to visit us in the classroom and would tell wondrous stories about Mother Cabrini.
As the Granddaughter of Italian immigrants from New York and Philly, this truly hit me to the core. I cried for my people, for Mother Cabrini and all she had to go through. With the grace of God could she accomplish these amazing things. God Bless you Father Mike in all you do !
Loved it! Proud of my Catholic faith after being away for over 20 years. Made me realize that God calls all of us to become saints. Even when we suffer in this world God is always there showing us love and trying to make us saints! Saint cabrini pray for us
Father Mike, I cried a lot during the movie realizing the social inequity from back then and still exists today! We should all be as strong and active as Mother Cabrini 🙏
I cried like 4 times! Towards the end watching the pictures of the real nuns and the mass at St Peter's square during her canonization made me cry the most. I thought about the power of God working through her the whole time and it was so touching for me. I went with some friends including a priest and we all cried during the movie. I loved it❤️
My daughter and I went to see the movie yesterday and we too wept through the entire movie. We were so moved by the force, the bravery, the empowerment of this woman of God. God's graces truly moved her through every moment of her life. Both sides of my family were devout Catholic Italian immigrants during this time period and I know they were faced with so much hatred and discrimination, but they did not let that discourage them. They knew that God would help them so they worked very hard, learned the language, became citizens, found jobs, built their own homes and raised large families. They have been gone a long time, but I have never forgotten them and their struggle and they will be in my heart until I die. And hopefully I will see them again in Heaven.

I was at her shrine on Ash Wednesday. Lit a candle for a special intention. It is a beautiful location in golden Colorado. You can light virtual candles for any special intention. 🙏🏼.
Went there a couple years ago. Would love to go back again. It's nice to see the Stones she laid in the form of the Sacred Heart on top of the hill.

Father Mike, I agree with you. I posted this comment on an interview with the actress that played St. Mother Cabrini: Sad that the interview is about the power of a woman and what she did. Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini was doing the Will of God; she never would have bragged about what she was able to accomplish as a woman; she would have given all the glory to God. "We must pray without tiring, for the salvation of mankind does not depend on material success; nor on sciences that cloud the intellect. Neither does it depend on arms and human industries, but on Jesus alone." - Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini
The film showed a nun who was God's servant. The Sisters of St Joseph taught us that work is prayer when it is serving others as God intended. The film show just that. All nuns pray and would not have become nuns if they had no faith in God. Cabrini's faith and prayer are a given. The movie never hid the fact that she was a nun. The movie showed a nun working tirelessly to serve the poor, despite having poor health. Cabrini's work was prayer and her accomplishments were proof that " faith can move mountains."
My daughter and I went to see the movie this weekend. First of all, we were surprised at the number of people in the theater, more than we expected! They came to see part of the great work of a Catholic saint, one of our own❤ like Fr Mike says, one of our sisters, Mother Cabrini🙏 I'm sure her zeal and determination to serve poor immigrants came from a life prayer, moved by the Holy Spirit. May we be moved to serve the needy living around us., even in the smallest of ways, but with great love! Treating everyone with dignity. ❤
Fr. Michael, I experienced the same thing. Towards the end of the movie I was so emotional and just cried. I also cannot explain why. A movie well worth watching.❤
Because it was done so well. Great production, great actors, done well throughout. My friend and I at 80 cried throughout. It was a moving production.

Your crying was probably seeing the relentlessness of Gods grace, wanting His Will to be done and choosing the most unlikely person to do His work and do it in His way. His grace is overwhelming and when I think of what he accomplishes in us, through his grace, it brings me to tears. The Almighty, Powerful God loves us to the point of folly. The fabric selection for the uniforms is a wonderful story. The psychological benefit for those children is priceless.

Thank you, Fr. Mike. I see your point about there needing to be "more God" in the film, but I also saw SO much of God's grace being poured through Mother Cabrini. Seemingly any ordinary person would have been stopped, held back, sent away, etc, but God clearly had a special plan for His servant, Francesca Cabrini, and nothing was ever going to stop that.
My youngest daughter and i watched this movie Friday in a sold out theater. It was immersive and left us wanting more, to continue to walk with St Cabrini in her mission of the world.
Thank you for bringing the fact that God guided Cabrini in all she accomplished, this isn't emphasized in this film! Thank you again! We owe all to God!
Although not completely Catholic this movie meets the world where it’s at. While not being overly religious it has the Catholic faith at its core without being overly pushy. Anyone that’s Catholic already knows how much more religious she was but this movie attracts everyone and anyone of many faiths and beliefs by not being too “religious”
I cried too watching this, and wasn’t sure why. Clearly the Holy Spirit is at work in this film.
Your comment about meeting the world where it is and that the movie attracts everyone makes sense. It may be more important just to reach people and keep them interested instead of going beyond what they can understand now.

I saw this movie with my friend for a early birthday gift.
I am of Italian American desent so a lot of the prejustice St. Cabrini suffered from I experieced into the 1970's.
I can't believe her strength, courage, and faith to move forward with her projects. She gave respect and demanded respect. Her faith in God gave her the will to accomplish her mission.

My aunt has been a sister with the Cabrini order for 40 years.She became a nun later in life she was a nurse in Chicago .We are an Italian family from the south side of chicago.He’s been in Africa as a missionary and is 80 now.They started many clinics there.The sisters are all in serving God.

I tend to think Catholics will benefit the most as we, knowing the lives of the saints & their knee time, see the power of grace & love in this movie. We do not believe in human strength, rather in the power of answering the call of God! No doubt she attended Mass & prayed for guidance from her blessed mother through the rosary… the true force behind her! I am in gratitude for Angel Studios highlighting the life of a great saint. Fr Mike, I cried watching only the film clips I have seen up to today. So I can imagine exactly why you could cry while watching the film!!!! I live in Italy so the film won't debut here tomorrow like in the US. I believe you cried because you could see, feel, perceive the power of God in this amazing, powerful, Holy Spirit filled saint, Santa Francesca Saverio Cabrini !!!! We will be going to visit the Shrine dedicated to Madre (Mother) Cabrini located in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, this month, my family and friends from our parish. What a Gift from God that we can make this pilgrimage not far from where we live in Monza! I encourage all in the US to visit Mother Cabrini's Shrine in NY near The Cloisters museum!!

I am eagerly anticipating seeing "Cabrini". It fills me with optimism that faith based entertainment, whether it is the riveting streaming series "The Chosen", the compelling and heart wrenching "Sound of Freedom", or now, "Cabrini", can rival other content from Hollywood when it comes to dramatic content and production value. For far too long, Christians have had to settle for entertainment content that had cheesy and overly preachy dialog, had poor acting, and looked cheap. It is high time that our faith was portrayed in the best possible light in film and TV.
The actress deserves an Oscar nomination.
So does the movie. It should be nominated for Best Picture, Director, Cinematography, Sound, Best Original Song sung by Andrea Bocelli and his daughter.
Agree 100% with your analysis 👍🏻 I came away with a disconcerting feeling even though I really enjoyed the movie. Upon reflection I realized it was because Mother Cabrini’s deep spirituality was missing. I wanted more glimpses into her personal prayer life. My husband is a deacon and preached his homily on Mother Cabrini purposely adding in quotes of hers that expressed her intense faith and love for Jesus and His Sacred Heart ❤️🔥

I’m thinking you may have been moved to tears because the waves of immigrants continue to come to this country today. They face many of the same difficulties now as those who came previously. Without making my opinions appear “too far right,”please keep in mind that the earlier generations were admitted after making legal application to do so. They wanted to become citizens of The United States of America.
People who are overrunning our boarders today are not necessarily applying for citizenship. I have great concern for what is happening. If one is willing to break the law to be here, they are already admitting that our laws are insignificant to them and they will do whatever they like to achieve what they want. God help us all.
We saw it this afternoon. It had me often in tears. We all have the mission of taking care of the least of our brothers and sisters. And I wrote these words before hearing you did the same, Father. WOW.
I want to see it this week. I am grateful that these types of movies are made and hope that people watching them would want to know more and seek more about God and how to live out a life of faith after watching them.
We need to see and experience more faith, more hope, more love to counteract all the negativity, cynicism and hate in this world.

Not enough God? Totally agree with you Fr Mike! The filmmakers avoided showing prayer, the word Catholic and even the name of Pope Leo XIII, instead they focused on her struggles as a woman accomplishing the impossible. Thank goodness they added the postscript at the end of her canonization with the map of her accomplishments. In our weakness is His strength made known. Praise God for giving America this wonderful saint! The movie was a high quality film with great actors, scenery and sound.
I enjoyed the movie however I felt the emphasis was on “girl power“ Rather than the power of God especially when she said, at the end of the movie that Men couldn’t do what women do
I remember learning from one of my favorite English teachers who taught that good writing won’t be explicit. It won’t say “It was summertime.” Instead, it sets the scene where the reader can gather information from all the descriptive language eliciting the reader’s senses that would conclude it was summertime.
This movie was filled with Scripture-- from what it exemplified, what visuals it chose, to actual quotes used. Its entire heart was Him, Our Lord. Cabrini, was a display of what a faithful servant who reflected Him and His Works looks like. It did so faithfully, reverently, no “shock value” or explicit content necessary.
@@marylouross2431 - I can see how one would see that. Closer to the movie release date, and this release date being in Women's History Month, it leaned on that angle for marketing. After seeing the movie, I believe this intention behind the promo was to reach a wider scope of audience who can approach a faith based movie with more openness as it appears to be but a human experience-- then leaving, with greater understanding of persons with deep faith.
I think the one explicit line that captured all that Cabrini tried to demonstrate with us, as an audience, but so too, her adversaries was at the climax of the film. When she "puts on His coat of armor" via NUN vestments, enters a chamber of Italian political adversaries who immediately discredit her for her pertaining-demographic, in which she pushes back to strip herself of these distractions. She presented herself, not as “Cabrini” or even a woman, but (to paraphrase quote) “a voice to the voiceless.”
With that mayor then, when she entered his chambers likewise and won, he couldn't fully accept it on the terms that he lost to a woman. Despite her win for Our Lord's mission, at the end of the day, Cabrini could not be seen as anything other than by her biology. Thus, from where he stood, he had to pad his own ego with the statement he did: “It's a shame that you're a woman, mother. You would have made an excellent man.”
His lens was still not resolved, nor would it be so quickly within this quick exchange, but it was for this reason he would only admit defeat to a “man” like woman. Thus, she sought to correct this lens by saying “men could never do what we* do.” (*Not “I”- “we”, as in, she is no “exception” to any rule).
It was a zinger. It used his very thought of the differences between men and women, and while he sought to give men ultimate credit for doing anything capable, she flipped the script to wake him up from his muddied lens. This zinger was merely a tool for humbling since the only "language" he could see and speak from were the differences between men and women. He wouldn't understand anything deeper than this human piece, thus it's a bit futile to proceed that way.
But perhaps with this humbling from Cabrini, there's hope he possibly could obtain the greater God-Centered wisdom in the future. She seemed confident, and he did smile at the retort; perhaps she foresaw change and clung to this hope as well.

The Sisters of St. Joseph taught us that work is prayer, when it is dedicated to serving God's children and purpose. Cabrini worked selflessly and tirelessly at serving God's purpose. The movie was about a nun and it is a given that all nuns pray and have a strong faith in God and devotion to him.
There was a scene when Cabrini and the other nuns sat at a table in their convent in Codogna, Italy and they said a prayer with a picture of Jesus on the wall behind Cabrini. And there was also a shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the orphanage, the one when the inspector came in, it was after the scene Cabrini was talking to a man whose nephew was arrested for no reason and Vittoria, the prostitute, carried flowers over to Jesus' shrine and smiled.
God be with you Fr. Mike. May the Holy Spirit keep you safe and give you strength always- from your viewers in the Philippines.

It was beautiful. I don’t know how faithful it was to accounts of her life, but I want to learn more about her.

Dear Fr. Mike, I grew up in Poughkeepsie NY. We lived across the Hudson River from West Park NY where Mother Cabrini built her orphanage (Asylum). Both sides of grandparents where immigrants from 1903. Although the Cabrini movie was good (and it did make me cry especially thinking of my grandmas and grandpas) it missed the mark on how she was filled with God’s gifts. She also did miracles. My grandfather was a recipient. When she was digging for the well, she asked my grandfather to help move boulders. So he went with a few friends ( could have been uncles) to blast the rock. When the fuse was set they ran and hid but the dynamite didn’t blow. My grandpa told the others to wait and he went to see why the fuse didn’t work. As he was getting close, Mother Cabrini called his name. He turned around to her and the dynamite blew!!! Not one piece hit my grandpa. ❤
When her body was exhumed my eldest aunt was asked to be there. She told me she remembered a strong and beautiful scent of roses that came out of the coffin. This is my beautiful memory of Mother Cabrini. A strong, determined yet religious woman set out to do God’s Will. And her love of humanity, not only Italians, reached all over the world!

Since it’s from the same studio that made the chosen, I watched the last two episodes of the chosen in the theater on Saturday. There is something going wrong in my family right now. And I’m trying very hard to deal with it without saying anything about it. I tried and sobbed through the whole 2 1/2 hours at the end of the chosen season four. Some of it deserved every bit of tears that I shed but some of it was the outlet I needed for the pain I was feeling. We want to see Cabrini. Especially since we grew up in the South side of Chicago and we know what those projects were like that that bought her name. If nothing else I’ve it it doesn’t matter who sees me or I try to cry quietly, but knows that I’m crying it only matters that what is on the screen is getting to me and I understand it and it hurts me to see it. I hope it makes me a better person because of it.

I am a Dominican assistant and serve as she would have wanted. I sat through the movie with another Dominican that gave as I have as our occupation. Both of us 80 or older. We both cried through the entire movie. Why? Because it was just as we cared for the underdogs. We could have one good conversation with you if you would come visit. Lots of Dominicans that have had to stretch within God’s will to help others. That is what we do. Come visit. You will love us. Central Illinois. Loved the movie it was done well.

I come from an Italian Immigrant Family here in Australia…. But many of my parent’s relatives immigrated to the USA in the late.
1800’s . The Boys were only 14 years old.
I heard many stories …
But this film really brought it even closer.
Clearly, this formidable woman, Nun, Saint was led by the fire of the Holy Spirit.
This was not touched upon in the Movie, perhaps because it was made to teach a broad audience, not just Catholic, Christian movie-goers.
Regardless, this movie is INSPIRING and cannot fail to make one truly examine one’s own life and ask oneself:
How can I Make a difference?
How can I contribute to making a better world for those who have not had my privileges…. ?
All in all it’s a story that inspires unrelenting Faith, Courage and Fortitude in the face of any and all adversity.
You brought me to tears. Sometimes we don't see what is right in front of us.

I am so pleased to have entertainment that I want to watch and not blush or be shocked by what goes on the screen. I understand that they may not delve into Dogma or into Mother's prayer life. But this is a start. Kudos to Angel Studios for being willing to take a chance on these topics. I loved Sound of Freedom and am a fan of The Chosen. All good products.

I was telling my husband about the movie Cabrini and had the same feelings that Fr Mike Schmitz expressed in his review! I cried through a lot of the movie (as he related that he, Fr Mike, did)and I think it was sorrow over sin that had cast these immigrants to the curb. I cried because of the realization of the sincere love of Jesus in that he sent this beautiful Saint to, literally, feed his sheep. And I cried because the Holy Spirit was not proclaimed as Mother Cabrini’s strength, nor was her love shown to be a result of #1 Christ’s love for her (and all of his creation), and #2 her devout love of Jesus’s Sacred Heart. It was hinted at but a non-Christian might not pick up on that truth. For those who don't know
God intimately, they may see Mother Cabrini merely as a woman of great inner strength and resolve, ready to help the needy. I.E. she could be seen as solely an incredible humanitarian, and we, within the church, know that even great resolve to do good may not come to fruition... at least not sustained fruition, without the blessing of Jesus.
All in all though, a tremendous film, especially when you know the One who plants the seeds of love. Another thing that I find incredible was her personal strength in the face of her physical limitations. Just
another nod to the fact that God does not always choose the able but enables the chosen! A last note is that Jesus used a woman, and we all know that, especially in those days, women were discounted and viewed, often, as irrelevant. Praise be to God forever. St. Cabrini pray for us.

As a child, I remember visiting the Mother Cabrini Shrine in Golden, CO. with my grandparents and parents. We climbed a gravel path to get to the top of the hill, today there are concrete steps so it is more accessible. I so appreciated this film in telling her story. Her faith is the driving force behind her courageous decisions to push forward amid obstacles. I'm just happy I can go to the movies to see these stories emerge. Thank for your eloquent review.
Right on Fr Mike.... I loved it BUT I kept wondering WHY it didn't include scenes of her in prayer. I know as a saint and as a very sick individual trying to accomplish the impossible she most certainly was on her knees daily praying with all her heart! Done of what she accomplish would have been possible without praying to our Father for HELP to help those in most need and bring the light of Christ into souls. Why did they leave that critical element OUT?

Absolutely agree that we needed to see Mother Cabrini pray more and bring faith to the front and center of this movie but as you mentioned, Father Mike, it was not written as a Catholic movie. My sister and I loved it too! We did cry at the end and were deeply moved throughout the movie at the struggles of so many. Unfortunately, immigrants continue with there struggles to date. Great review. I love this movie and I cried a bucket load of Happy Tears ! Mother Cabrini was an amazing Saint that God Bless us with! We need more people like her! I wish someone like her would run for the President of the United States!

I cried during this movie also,all 4 of my grandparents came from Italy and went through NY on way to Providence RI, my Dad told me stories about the terrible times Italians had to endure when they first came to America , Amen Father and Thank You 🙏

Fr Mike, i think when we are moved to tears it;s experiencing the grace of God, the light reaches within us. A profound connection that ignites a passion to who we really are. Sometimes we get glimpses and it re-ignites the love of God within us all. Being alive, knowing God, in all his creation.

This explanation does seem to feet my experience when I got tears rolling down, I think it was adoration ( not sure exactly what english translation is ). I could not tell there was anything different or special, except that there was a sense of peace. I might have to look a bit deeper into this.

Perhaps it's the love of God you hold within your heart. In Adoration the space is Holy and the peace we feel is knowing God is right here ✨
The ending - I was bawling. But the part when they arrived at 5-Points it brought tears.
