I haven't looked through the comments at all, so I'm not sure if someone told you this: but Kitty lied about not showing up to their wedding. She said that to make him feel better and not stay in the self wallowing that he was in.
@@Crispifordthe3rd515 thanks for letting me know 👀👀
@@CBLOOM yeah no problem! It's never said in the movie, but judging by how mad she is about him not showing up, it would be VERY hypocritical to insult him for it when she did the same thing. Especially because she seems genuinely effected by the fact that he actually felt guilty about it.
it doesnt make you any less masculine for thinking something is cute and expressing how it makes you feel! loved the reaction 💗
Yes it does I'll be having to revoke his man license, he will lose all male privileges and will be handed a $100 dollar bitch fine

They had absolutely no reason to make a villain as terrifying as Death, and I'm so glad they did anyway! Kids were legit crying and looking away from the screen when he appeared 🤣
THEY DIDN'T, YOU IDIOT. Since Death is an antagonist, and not a villain, they literally did not make a villain as terrifying as Death.
Poor kids 🤣
@@0deadx21 Oh, look at mister megamind over here.
He's the villain. His main goal throughout the entire movie was literally killing the protagonist and only in the final did it change bc Puss himself changed and wasn't the same person Death set out to kill.
Villain is a subset of an Antagonist- square vs rectangle kind of deal.
The Oxford Dictionary definition of a Villain is "a character whose evil actions or motives are important for the plot" and I don't know about you but Death wanting to kill Puss was pretty evil and important for the plot...
Goldilocks was an Antagonist bc her motivation and actions weren't strictly evil, but her goals clashed with that of Puss and that was the source of conflict- both wanted the last wish but only one person can get it.
Forget the Kids I was scared af too
@@edim108 To Puss, wanting to kill him is evil. But at the end of the day, it's just Death's job to take the lives of those that will end soon anyway. We can't live forever.
With that being said, the bloodthirst he had throughout the movie certainly is rather sinister.
"Everyone thinks they'll be the one to defeat me, but no one's escaped me yet"
-a pretty intimidating line but after knowing that wolf is death itself, this dialogue takes on a whole new dimension.
Yup
A subtle thing that I absolutely loved was when puss said “I laugh in the face of death” after first meeting him and you can see deaths finger tense up cuz of how pissed that made him
fun fact: at 4:31 if you look at the back of the crowd, you can already see death before his first appearance, watching and stalking puss from the shadows, just like he said he was
thats actually terrifying
😳
🥶
Omg
thats cool and terrifying
I loved how the majority of Puss's deaths can be summed up with "Hold my milk."
🤣🤣
"Sostén mi leche" --Puss in Boots's last words, probably
And in the bar, he's on his 9th glass of milk when Wolf shows up.
@@marcusc9931 And he died after eight tolls of the bell
Death's quick rant in Spanish (¿POR QUE DIABLOS FUI A JUGAR CON MI COMIDA?!?) roughly translates into English "WHY THE HELL DID I PLAY WITH MY FOOD?!?", likely showing his disappointment in toying with Puss over the course of his journey instead of killing him when given the chance.
Thanks for translating that part 👀
Lol thats fucking hilarious 😂
Thank you for the translation!
I had a feeling I was missing a lot of jokes cuz I don't speak Spanish.
Might have to change that...
Then he could've killed him right there
i cant believe one of the most tightly written, well paced, no bloat, best action, best camera work movies, is puss in boots 2.
Nobody seen that coming 🤣🤣
It really is crazy, isn't it? To think that the best animated movie in forever and one of the best dreamworks movies in their catalog is a sequel to an offshoot character in a Shrek sequel. Just f'ing crazy but yeah, here it is.. And with videos like this and so many others here and on TicTok it's getting it's due. It opened horribly because no one wanted a Puss in Boots 2 and few went to see it opening week. But when the initial reviews hit and the clips came out, people flocked to it and it has become profitable which is good because it let's the studio know what people want and they tend to fire the money cannons at things people want
This movie had no right to be as good as it was. Absolute masterpiece, and that wolf had black air force energy.
Every scene he was in stole the show 🔥
@@CBLOOM yup I’m surprised there ain’t a vid of him being the definition of black air force energy he need to be on the round table of black Air Force energy

@@syn_2529 yup
Fun fact, in some cultures,it's said that whistling could summon the devil, or bring death. Small hint to wolf's identity.
That’s creepy😳😳
And that includes Hispanic culture, which puss in boots' movie setting is based in
Are those cultures originally from some Spanish speaking country or similar? Because if they are, then that just makes even more sense
not death but the devil, we say do not whistle, the whistle is from the demons, they can come, especially at night, at night they are more active, because at night we are afraid of darkness, and when we are afraid it is easier for them to enter us.
@@themustardman219 My grandmother always told me I should not whistle at home coz the devil will come eventually and we are from Poland so it’s not only a spanish thing.
This is the first "animated" Movie that I walk out and still reminiscing all of the scenes and plot. Me and my friends also keep talking about it for a solid 30 minutes before changing the subject. Definitely the best of the year, or at least on animation

@The Noble goated movie
When death gives Puss his sword back, it isn't disrespect at all, it's a sign of utter respect showing death won't kill him without a fair fight🥶
Ik🤣🤣just messing around
You can see it both ways. Puss in Boots would never have a chance even with a weapon against death thats maybe why he, just to get the hopes up from puss, gave the sword, eventhough he knows he would win. The only thing that he didnt expect was that puss changed, thats why he spared puss. Noone can beat death.
@@chomp5558 exactly there was never any disrespect just a massive difference in strength

Respect? Death had no respect for puss throughout the movie, he just saw him as prey... or a toy? lol
Definitely my new favorite movie. Found the villain very menacing however he wasn’t the main villain as he was there assuming puss was just an arrogant hero who wouldn’t change his act until puss learned to cherish which ultimately gained his respect and how when the time comes they can meet each other again as friends
Very true, also do you think he will be there when it’s puss’ time to go?
The Wolf is technically not a villain.
Jack Horner is the obvious villain.

Death can't be called a villain, he's actually neutral. He's no more a villain than any flood or hurricane, he is a force of nature that's been repeatedly taunted by Puss. The fact he didn't kill (or reap in this case) Puss is proof enough.
That’s true 👀didn’t think of it like that 🤣
@@CBLOOM Yeah, And Death saying that puss didnt deserve those lives, So many people could have been granted those lives to live to the fullest, But puss never valued them, Man Death was such a cold ass villain
@thinkingsimon I don't understand that, he used his lives. He enjoyed many moments in his life. He used his lives, like they were supposed to be used.
@@godlyhax4172 Has more to do with how quickly he lost them and how they lacked meaning, he lost them out of stupidity and to satisfy his ego.
That's wrong. he legit is breaking the rules to come kill Puss lol being a force of nature is irrelevant
It's just so great how they had every type of villain the antagonist with their own story arc in Goldie who is fun, understandable and learns her own lessons. Death who's just such a fear inducing villain who stalks the main character and Jack who's just an irredeemable villain and incredibly unlikeable. Amazing movie everyone should buy this or go see it to give movie studios the message that we want more things like this.
Movie is just fantastic 🥲
The thing about the wolf? He was always there, just around the corner! Look CAREFULLY at the corners of the death cards :P
He's also in the background when Puss is fighting the giant. Look at the top left corner when the crowd of people do the wave, and prepare to have your mind blown.
@@andrewblissett2211 holy f#ck! I never noticed that! that is AWSOME!
One of the main reasons why this movie is a success is because its antagonists represent three types of evil: circumstantial evil (goldilock and the bears held perrito hostage for their own advantage), necessary evil (death kills people as his duty) and pure evil (jack horner is literally a psychopath). It's the opposite of the protagonists who represent circumstantial good (kitty is an ally but at times against puss), necessary good (puss is the people's hero) and pure good (perrito is 100% good boi).

@@Luna-Taxers yeah, but his whistle, man. His whistle 😭
This probaply all across the people. Kids terrified but teens and adults love it. It just also remembers you, that you will once face him as well. I'm sorry your sister turned into a tram
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's creator, Hirohiko Araki-sensei, has said that Shrek is his favorite animated movie, and places it at #8 in his top 20 Suspense films list in roughly 2013. This would explain the Bohemian Rhapsody arc, and this to me sums up a lot of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish in general. Araki really is ahead of the times
Never knew that 👀🔥
Yet another reason to love the bizarre beautiful brilliant mind that is Araki!
Man... I have to say, after a whole year of mediocre movies, I didn't expect to be Puss in Boots to surprise me like this!
Definitely the biggest surprise of the year 😮💨
Facts
13:36 for those that didn't catch it, or don't know what it means, the wolf put coins over his eyes. that's an old greek burial tradition to pay the ferryman with, and the wolf doing the "im watching you" point isn't just wolf saying he's watching puss, it's also saying puss will need a pair of coins for his eyes too.
Those that watch Troy with Brad Pitts know
Interesting to know 👀
Actually the Greeks put coins in their mouths. The coins in the eyes were a tradition more up north I believe and that just kinda got mixed with the Greek tradition.
Those aren't coins, wolves and other night hunting animals adjust their eyes on the darkness of the area, when reflected by light it looks like their eyes lit up because of the reflections of the light, metaphorically maybe those are coins but those aren't

Big time!! The MCU and Disney have gone to shit. Who f'ing cares about them now? This, however, will have me in the theater opening night for Shrek 5. If this is how dreamworks will do it? Yeah, just inject that into my veins every day...
Im hoping for it to release in 2023, but i want it to be atleast Shrek 1 tier, so if it has to take longer to be better, ill wait max 2024. But since the script and productiom is already basically finished, then i think it will be 2023 and still be atleast Shrek 1 tier.
Easily my favorite DreamWorks villain. This movie really reminded me of the movies I watched growing up. Cartoony enough for kids to enjoy, but witty enough to make adults laugh and have some great themes and character arcs. It also RESPECTS the audiences intelligence to understand what's going on and make their own interpretations instead of shoving it down our throats. Absolutely love this movie.
The little dog when he was cussing towards the bears had me cracking up and death is my favorite villain in this whole movie I did not expect this to be this good
Perrito is a great side character 😮💨
The wolf is voiced by the guy who played Pablo Escobar in Narcos
Wagner Moura 🇧🇷
@@owalterluan that’s insane 🤣
"all animations are for children"...
A form of 'Death, straight up.' ...
Shrek has a true brother film now. This was deep, powerful, overwhelming.
Give a script to an actor, they can play... But let the scripter loose, and oh boy it's gonna get CARRRRRAAAAAYYZZZZZEEEEEY!
Can’t say anything after this movie 🤣
Dude one thing I find impressive about the wolf is that it wasn't just kids that got spooked out but it freaked out adults as well. DreamWorks definitely has horror movie potential
This is the new peak for dreamworks,
I haven’t been this into a kids film better than avatar😂
Dreamworks gonna have a hard time topping this masterpiece 😭
20:45 yes. And I think that it's necessary for parents to really teach them these concepts of death so that they would learn to continue to live the given one chance in life to the fullest.
I really love Perrito, best movie dog in ages! I also already love his voice actor from What We Do In The Shadows
im so so happy spiderverse seemed to have open the doors for animators and other artists within the industry!! It seems like for all the studios (outside of disney/pixar at least) have higher ups that are allowing more creativity and less realism for their artists which is really exciting
Dreamworks also released The Bad Guys this year which is also an amazing movie! I love this movie more of course but its such an amazing film and it made me realize this movie would also be amazing!
Yes! That and the anime sphere getting mainstream are starting to have huge impacts on movies and for the better. The stories in things like Spiderverse and anime are deeper and more fleshed out than we've seen before and I love that. I hope that continues in Shrek 5
Puss in boots 2 was probably one of dreamworks best movies , and I hope it wins best animated in the Oscar’s and it gave us one of the dreamworks villains ( death) who is up there is Chen and tai lung from kung fu panda
If it doesn’t get nominated the whole ceremony is rigged
This movie was so well done, the villains, the protagonist, the story, heck, they made the comedic relive a phenomenal character! The little dog is literally one of my favourite characters in the movie!
I just love Deaths whistle. I can imagine Death's story in the wild west whistling that and slaying many people when he was still alive and when he died during his life of murder and such as an outlaw, he turns into Death itself. How imagine having that story
The grasshopper was one of my favorite things in the film😂
Very underrated character 🤣🤣
The Wolf wasn't really a villain. He was just doing his job, fulfilling his purpose with some passion, and he had a valid points about having 9 lives and not valuing them, while other ones have only one. And he wanted Puss to pay for his arrogance. And he's right. He didn't just hate puss, as we see in the last scene when he sees he's now reconsidered his values and treats his life with respect, so he just leaves him be. He didn't try to kill it just for villain's sake.
If he's a villain, what bad thing he does? Punishing the ones who treat death like a joke, wasting their live(s), as if it was something good?
Also, would be a sick thing if he appeared behind every person that died on this movie, mostly Jack's workforce. And every time he would grin to Puss like "See, that's coming for you as well"
You know very well that wasn't part of Death's job.
Come on, he said it himself. He went out of his own way to take Puss’s life early since he wasn’t valuing all his nine lives. It wasn’t his job, he didn’t have to go after Puss
He’s at least the antagonist then 💀
I think death would be an antagonist
@@musion7740 Antagonist, not a villain. He has only 7-8 minutes of screen time, and no villain has that in a feature length.
I also did a Google Translate of some of the Spanish parts: what the Wolf said after Puss in Boots escaped was 'Run run, kitty'; the equivalent of what Kitty Softpaws says during her mini tirade after losing the map is 'I'm going to make mats out of you all!'
In 4:31 , you see Death in the shadows of the alley, standing there menacingly glancing at Puss and waiting to collect his 8th life while everyone cheers. And the bell tolls eight times during the fight for each lost life of Puss, signaling that death ist always around the corner, and here literally, meeting Puss later in the bar to claim him for good. This movie ist just phenomenal.
Great reaction. Never apologize for being a sensitive person. When you do the re-watch pay attention to the bears and Goldie more. That's the part that gutted me; the small reactions between Mama Bear and Goldie. Makes sense. Olivia Colman and Florence Pugh are two of the best actresses working right now.
That was Florence Pugh?!?!? I didn’t notice that at all 😭
Force of nature villains are my favorite type. Not good or evil, just doing what comes naturally to them. Puss admits he can't beat Death forever, and accepts they will meet once his life is at an end. Love that.
no matter how death's whistle is played. it sends chills down your spine and with a cold gut
The Animation, the camera angles it so detailed! And the story is God tier!
And Death, goddamn! DEATH persona is a masterpiece!
One of the best movie ever!
For sure!! Hope it wins some rewards
something I didn't notice the first time, when the doctor wrote the address for Mama Luna's place, he just drew an arrow at the picture and wrote go here and that's hilarious
I gotta go back to that scene and watch it now 🤣
This is now for me one of the best Dreamworks Animated film I've seen! And Death is now one of the most terrifying animated movie villains ever. That dude is scary!
100%!!!
Mr. Wolf from _The Bad Guys_ watching this movie: "See? Now I'm Death Itself. This is what I'm talking about! This is the $#!% I have to put up with."
Pretty sure Kitty is lying about not showing up at the wedding herself; otherwise she wouldn't have kept angrily bringing it up. She just wants to take away Puss' guilt.

His facial reactions to Jake Horner actions was priceless 🤣🤣
30:11
On the contrary, Puss is afraid of him, but that's is fine. Courage is not having any fear, courage is recognizing it and facing it.
Puss during his eight lives was not afraid of death because he did not know it, and when he almost died in his ninth life he fled. Now, however, he is ready to take the risk in his life, and face it.

This Death goes by various names. Death, the Wolf, the Big Bad Wolf. But personally, I’ve decided to calm him El Lobo. It feels very fitting considering his accent. Also, that’s what Puss calls him
That sounds live asf 🔥
If you listen to the bells at the beginning, you hear the bell ring 8 times for each death he has, and you can see death in the crowd before he is introduced

I don’t know if you know. But the wolf was actually death personified as a wolf, cause you know the term between cats and dogs, so for puss it’s a wolf. And he hasn’t really been “hunting him down” he was mainly just following him around as his like “chances of redemption”. But during that last fight he saw that he really did change, and is now taking his life seriously. (Btw that was the main reason why death followed him in the first place, he was taking his lives too jokingly).
He is also named the big bad wolf
If they ever make a Shrek 5, I expect to see an Elder Shrek learning to let go of his children.
People don't seem to realize how impressive deaths last entrance is, he walks right thru the star barrier that already killed 1 and was gonna kill baby bear and it didn't even phase him
When I found out these two things my mind was completely blown by this movie
- during the giant fight the bell rings 8 times , with the eight sound being the bell falling on Puss, signifying his eight life being taken.
-also during the giant fight there is a quick shot of the crowd cheering outside. But in the left upper corner, Death is watching and waiting too. Which adds even more weight to “I was there for all of them, and you didn’t even notice me!”
Sickest movie I’ve seen by DW
I'm a screenwriter, and let me tell you, one of the hardest characters to write nowadays is the villain. Back in the day, "the bad guys" were always evil, immoral, and represented everything the hero was against. But in today's media, it feels like every single villain should have an understandable motive, something that would make them "human" and understandable... I mean, just look at what Disney is doing with iconic villains such as Cruella and Maleficent. They are giving them motives to be wicked.
Adding that extra dimension can be good - complex characters are compelling, after all - but I've always stated that by making them relatable you also lose something: their charisma. Take Scar, for instance. We don't know why he wants to be king, why he hates Mufasa and Simba, what makes him so twisted... But he's awesome!
And that's why I like this wolf so much. He's the embodiment of that classic villain, the one with no deeper motives and yet, full of personality. And everyone seems to love him!
All I can say is that if this is the direction the DreamWorks is going, with this kind of writing, directing, voicing and animation, then sign me up for 1000's more. This was incredible. Oh, and you absolutely HAVE to see Kung Fu Panda 2. Until Death came along, it had the best villain in dreamsworks with Shen and a great growth story like the one here
Fr! They need to have this team on every project 🤣
he’s not really a villain it’s just his job
but agreed the coolest, most terrifying and probably the most powerful villain of dreamworks
I gotta disagree with you there. Death tells Puss "don't tell" during his reveal, showing that he is breaking his own rules to go after the cat. He decided to make it personal and was abusing the power of his position.
I'm tearing up while watching through this, it was so amazing
10/10 movie 😭
This is genuinely one of the best movies of the decade
True stuff 👀can’t wait to see it across the spiderverse can top this 🤣
The wolf is the physical embodiment of death. No joke that’s what the wolf says himself.
if you dint notice death wasnt joking when he said he was there to witness all his deaths in his 8th death in the first battle before the giant picks up the belt there is a scene of puss on walking on roofs then it cuts back to the crowd cheering for him yea at that time you can see death staring at puss on the top left
for people who will ask whats the timestamp then it is 4:30 till 4:31 you see him for the split second then cut out cuz of editing
I agree with you that there are basically no flaws. The characters are all engaging and interesting, none of them are unnecessary. The plot is great because the ending shows that despite all of our theories on how the wish may be used by the end the end message is that there are no magic or quick fixes to life or happiness. You have to appreciate what you have. And. Of course... Death... best animated 'villain' since Scar

(At 4:30) Black Panther: I see you, White Wolf.
I brought my 6 year ol sister to watch this, the wolf scared ALL the kids whilst me and the other adults were so amazed and laughing, like we were watching a slasher movie XD it's ok tho, no nightmares, I actually could teach my sis that bleeding is not overly scary cuz we all do, we just need to be calm and find solutions
Big jack horner is based off of an old poem!
"Little jack horner sat in a corner eating horner pie, stuck in my thumb, pulled out a plum and said what a good boy am i"
Fun fact, The Stone Giant Rings and hits the bell 8 Times, indicating the lives of Puss in Boots he lost. Among the best foreshadowing if you hear and look closely.

Somewhere between 4:28 and 4:31, you can see The Wolf in the background watching. Very cool and small detail that no one would notice unless you watch it at .25 speed.
