First of all, as both a treasurer and an accountant, the record keeping is very detailed, but I like the responsibility that goes along with access to so much money. Second, I also had never heard of the phrase "give it the old college try," but as a college student, I will start using it sarcastically to mean a half-hearted attempt because that's what I see from my fellow college students. Third, I will always be Go Ben. Stay strong Ben!

The position I'm treasurer for is only £500k, whereas the budget I manage in my actual job (at a linked but separate large company) is a bit over £13 million. I've lost all perspective on what "a lot of money" actually is any more.
In my head "give it the ole college try" means I'm going to put the least amount of effort into this that will still guarantee relative success. Like doing just enough to pass a college class
Yeah, I always took it to mean that college kids don't care much. But also, it's not exactly hard to pass college. Getting a 4.0 GPA, yes. But "C's get degrees", and that's pretty easy for most college classes

Fun fact about my life. When my grandfather survived WW2 he decided that he would take up clockmaker as a hobby. So he hand built me a variety of different alarm clocks as my Christmas present for the first decade or so of my life. The one I loved the most that still works to this day albeit it's alarm is the most jarring unbelievable wake up, is a tiny functioning steam powered train engine. So it would wake me up with incredibly loud steam whistle sounds and the start up sequence chugs that got faster and louder. The wheels had moving parts and there was a tiny reservoir to put like a thimble of water in to produce actual steam. Which we did once and never again cuz it broke immediately. But it still makes the sounds and does the movements almost 30 years later.

17:50 Actually, that should be 13, I believe. Neither Percy nor Hermione took their Divination OWL's, so you could technically get 13 if you really wanted.
Actually they said that Hermione achieved 12 but I am pretty sure that she only received 10 (9 outstandings and 1 exceeds expectations in DADA I think)
Originally Hermione takes 12 however she drops divination during third year and she drops muggle studies after the end of the year to put her on a regular time table of 10 classes for fourth year
oh yes sorry, because they said that’s what Hermione ‘got’ I assumed they were talking about how many owls she achieved but rewatching they were talking about how many lessons she ‘got’- how many she was aloud to take
Also in your original post you said that Percy didn’t take divination, so if Percy achieved 12 OWLs which subject did he take that Hermione didn’t original take? As she did take divination at the start of 3rd year when she was originally taking 12 but if he didn’t he must have taken an extra one ?
11:40 Harry also used Crucio in Deathly Hallows on Amycus Carrow, and Hermione didn't use Fiend Fyre out of moral objection but because she knew it was an extremely difficult spell to control.
Re: OWLs Ron: "Only failed History of Magic and Divination, and who cares about them?" So J had the number but not the exact exams correct lol iirc Also, Hermione did not get 12 bc she dropped Divination and Muggle Studies. She got 9 "Outstanding" and one "Exceeds Expectations" in DADA. And she was disappointed, according to Ron Idk why I know this so clearly but I can't remember some of the other answers that are arguably easier 😂😂
When the planners came up, I spontaneously remembered one of (imho) the most iconic quotes from it: “don’t leave it till later, you big second rater!” And it’s not like I’ve even read the books in a while…I just loved that quote so much when I first read it. And I guess it helps that it rhymes, while the others (which I promptly looked up) didn’t have that same quality.
Honestly, I didn’t know the answer to the first question either. I was just happy because I knew it wasn’t “know it all” so I still counted it as a win 😜

23:00 The term give it the old college try was quoted in Babe Ruth's book in the 1920s, and the phrase entered the American language to mean any heroic attempt to achieve something, especially something with a high risk of failure.
Hermione lost 5, only Ron and Harry earned points (Hermione lied to McGonagall about going after the troll so the boys wouldn't be punished for being there I think)
I always interpreted the saying “Give it the Ol’ college try” to mean that when you get to college you have to give it your full effort because you’re not a little kid anymore and you have to try your hardest. Funny how that can be interpreted so many different ways.
Which has always been ironic to me because most people in College don't try very hard at all. Spending most of their time drinking and partying and doing assesment at the last moment.
Hermione loses 5 points before Harry and Ron are awarded 5 points, so Hermione's 5 points puts them at -5, Harrys 5, would put that back to 0, and Ron's 5 would make it 5 points.

I feel like the last question should have been whoever got it closer. But I’m always rooting for you Ben!

-her future husband and father of her children

I love how comfortable you guys are working together. It's like you're not just brothers but friends.
Does J actually find the honey every time, or are there just bottles hidden all over your house like Easter eggs by now?
2:30 PLEASE DO THIS I BEG YOU IT WILL BE HILARIOUS! the times you 'act' out scenes in these videos are honestly some of my favorite moments. "Whatcha fell over fooo?!" cracks me up every time
Ginny, Neville, and Luna are the Silver Trio.
Yes ! These quiz J vs Ben vids are the best !!!
Thanks!
Agreed! They're so fun to watch, especially the banter!
Definition of give it the old college try
US, old-fashioned. : to use one's very best effort : to try very hard
We can win this game if we give it the old college try!
I also am a treasurer and accountant! For our charity committee, we have to have a chair, treasurer and secretary in order to function. The position I'm treasurer for is only £500k, whereas the budget I manage in my actual job (at a linked but separate large company) is a bit over £13 million. I've lost all perspective on what "a lot of money" actually is any more.
Pretty much the way I use it.
"Eh, I´ll give it the good-old college try, I guess..."
Really? I always thought it meant “putting in a good solid effort” even if you are likely to fail
Definition of give it the old college try

Re: the troll
Harry and Ron each earned 5
Hermione lost 5
So it evened out to 5 total
Also I love that scenes from a hat idea.
But you gotta do it from memory you can’t watch any of the movies beforehand
Harry also used Crucio on Amicus Carrow in the Ravenclaw tower when he spat at McGonogal. In the book.
Also used it on snape when chasing him on the half blood prince. He just missed/snape deflected it.
No one seems to remember that one
I always just expect J to win and actually get excited when Ben wins.. but I wouldn’t say I’m a “J fan” or a Ben fan, it’s just a delightful little surprise 🤣👌🏻💜
22:48 listening for the umpteenth time while doing chores and all of a sudden hearing and seeing my name on the screen🤦🏻♀️😂 sorry I’m not that Jocelyn, though!
I live for these quizzes!! It’s both entertainment and actually educational for me to use against my other potterhead friends. Keep up the amazing work!! 🍿 🍿
Missed Harry trying to cast crucio in Half Blood Prince against Snape. He gets stopped part way through
No that was sectum sempra that he used on Snape. However Harry did use Crucio on Amycus Carrow in Deathly Hallows after he spits in Magonagalls face
@@courtneytrent6570 go back and read it again, I promise you it's in there. He doesn't even get the whole word out
@@ToddChristensen27 I think I remember what you’re talking about. I can’t believe they forgot about Amycus, I thought that was a huge moment!
@@courtneytrent6570 definitely was a huge miss. I expected them to miss the one in HBP, but the one against Amycus was a huge moment. Only reason I didn't mention it was because it was already mentioned when I made my comment
A lot of people seem to have forgotten that one.
You mentioning about parents signing the homework diaries was hilarious because it brought back the memory of the fact I used to forge my mothers signature each and every week! The funniest thing was she didn't mind and was impressed that it was identical to her signature 😁 lol good times! My friends even asked me to sign theirs too when they forgot 😅
Why is it that all the difficult questions that J and Ben get wrong, I get right. But all the easy questions, I get wrong.
Didn’t Harry also use Crucio on Amycus Carrows after he spat in Professor McGonagall face.
"Bellatrix was right you've got to really mean it!"
28:28 OH MY GOD!! Thank you J! That was bothering me so much! I was really hoping you were going to catch that before turning.
Ben has become the Chudley Cannons of these quizzes 😂
After seeing them on the last question, they clearly did not pay the math budget for this month.
McGonagall said the 5 was for "sheer dumb luck"
It was basically a reward for their solidarity for their house member. I believe Snape wanted to punish them
I don't know why, but I laughed so hard at the saturation bit they did! Riley, great job on the timing and editing!
The reason Hermione didn't want to use Fiendfyre was because it was too dangerous, not for moral reasons.
Yeah she knew it would be to hard to control
The cover picture for this says "Which Hallow did Ron want?".
Now if you ask this to any of the Weasleys or anyone who fought in the battle of Hogwarts, they would all say the resurrection stone so that they could see their loved ones one last time and say goodbye. The first year students barely knew anything and died at the age of 11 which is really sad because they were still children.
I don't think any first years died did they? I remember Collin Creevy I believe died. Either him or his brother Dennis but either way, they died but they weren't supposed to be there because everyone who wasn't 17 was being escorted to the Hog's Head/Aberforth Dumbledore
After a few draws in recent years I have finally managed to beat you both in an episode of Harry Potter Trivia. Proud of myself :D
well done!
I'm always cheering on Ben (B if he's wearing the Christmas sweater)
With the owls question? I knew taht the twins had 6 combined. And Ron barely got over them combined.
The wand length was a perfect opportunity to add up to 29.25 so that they would average 9 and three quarters.
(If ive done my math right)
when they realise that ron used the killing curse on Nagini in deathly hallows befor neville cuts her with the sword of Gryffindor
at 10:30, Ron also casts Avada Kadava against Nagini as a last ditch effort in the Deathly Hallow part 2
Nonverbally, so it doesn't count.
oh never mind, question said verbally, not sure which other occasions could be added if non-verbal uses were added thou, kinda curious
This one is a mixed bag for me. For one, none of the trio are capable of casting the AK but i can see in that situation it was necessary.
@@DhanushV2206 except in that instance they all could in order for the killing curse to work you need to truly want the target to die all 3 of the golden trio wanted nagini to die so the last horcrux would be destroyed so any of the 3 COULDVE used it they just wouldn't for moral reasons
@@mindovermatterbecomingyour1561 True, if Nagini wasn't inside that protective bubble in the books, the killing curse would have been affective at killing her, I guess Nagini is 'magic-resistant' in the movies without explanation but the point still stands

Actually, that should be 13, I believe. Neither Percy nor Hermione took their Divination OWL's, so you could technically get 13 if you really wanted.
Actually they said that Hermione achieved 12 but I am pretty sure that she only received 10 (9 outstandings and 1 exceeds expectations in DADA I think)
Originally Hermione takes 12 however she drops divination during third year and she drops muggle studies after the end of the year to put her on a regular time table of 10 classes for fourth year
@@hollymacnamara9986 You're not wrong, but they're talking about the max amount you CAN get, not just how much Hermione got.
oh yes sorry, because they said that’s what Hermione ‘got’ I assumed they were talking about how many owls she achieved but rewatching they were talking about how many lessons she ‘got’- how many she was aloud to take
Also in your original post you said that Percy didn’t take divination, so if Percy achieved 12 OWLs which subject did he take that Hermione didn’t original take? As she did take divination at the start of 3rd year when she was originally taking 12 but if he didn’t he must have taken an extra one ?
11:40 Harry also used Crucio in Deathly Hallows on Amycus Carrow, and Hermione didn't use Fiend Fyre out of moral objection but because she knew it was an extremely difficult spell to control.
Intro quote should have been McGonagall "why is it always you three!?"
16:23 I think Lavender wanted Won Won's wand 😏
I've always used the phrase "the good old college DROPOUT try" lol. Seems a little more fitting in my opinion hahaha
Re: OWLs
Ron: "Only failed History of Magic and Divination, and who cares about them?" So J had the number but not the exact exams correct lol iirc
Also, Hermione did not get 12 bc she dropped Divination and Muggle Studies. She got 9 "Outstanding" and one "Exceeds Expectations" in DADA. And she was disappointed, according to Ron
Idk why I know this so clearly but I can't remember some of the other answers that are arguably easier 😂😂
Didn't Ron also use the Killing Curse on Nagini in DH part 2? When him and Hermione were falling to the ground? Or is that not confirmed?
Not confirmed, but also the question referred to the spell being verbally cast and we didn’t hear it
@@lordvindican4830 you’re right it was supposed to be verbal. Thanks!

Harry also used crucio on the Carrow brother when he spat at mcgonnagal in the ravenclaw tower in deathly hallow
As a Jay fan, it’s always great to see him win!!! Can’t wait for the next video!!
You mean THE J fan
Yep 😂😂… as an older sibling who likes both trivia and Harry Potter, I was bound to be THE Jay fan
You guys should do a quiz as a team, and see how well you can do. I think it would be interesting to see the discussions to figure it out.
Based on the conversation at the end of the video, I think a good idea for the Patreon T-Shirt tier would be a jersey style shirt for both Team J and Team Ben.
Rewarding points is just another way for 'The Man' to control you.
I would prefer a Ben vs J quiz. Ben might win...
'Twice as many points as taking on a troll' ...had me dying.
I root for you every time, Ben!
So the phrase "Give it the old College try" means to give something your very best effort according to google
Ben, you were correct!!! It means great effort!
"The term give it the old college try was quoted in Babe Ruth's book in the 1920s, and the phrase entered the American language to mean any heroic attempt to achieve something, especially something with a high risk of failure."
These 👏🏻 are 👏🏻 my 👏🏻 favorite 👏🏻 videos 👏🏻 ever 👏🏻
I legitimately rewatch these all the time
My experience with this video: "now I've gotta finish this before Ben gets back!" "And I'm back!" Jay looks into the camera guiltily taking a bite and the video freezes.
Lol the Cleveland Browns of J vs. Ben 🤣🤣 as a Clevelander I love that so much!!!
Fact Check: I’m pretty sure Fred and Gorge got 6 O.W.L in total: 3 each.
23:00 The term give it the old college try was quoted in Babe Ruth's book in the 1920s, and the phrase entered the American language to mean any heroic attempt to achieve something, especially something with a high risk of failure.
2:45 the question said collectively, they EACH earned 5 points- meaning 15 would be correct- unless I missed something-
Hermione lost 5, only Ron and Harry earned points (Hermione lied to McGonagall about going after the troll so the boys wouldn't be punished for being there I think)
@@ferni7785 ahh- thats right, thank you.
In the books, it's not specified which memory charm she used on her parents. In the coffee shop, she said she never used obliviate before
I always interpreted the saying “Give it the Ol’ college try” to mean that when you get to college you have to give it your full effort because you’re not a little kid anymore and you have to try your hardest. Funny how that can be interpreted so many different ways.
Which has always been ironic to me because most people in College don't try very hard at all. Spending most of their time drinking and partying and doing assesment at the last moment.
George and Fred got 6 O.W.Ls together, 3 each
Again, Hermione hadn't *removed* someone's memories before in that scene. What she did to her parents was *modify* memories.
But it's still a type of memory charms, so not that big of a difference if you ask me.
Definition of Hermione: incredibly useful for everything but annoying at times😂
the crumbs (Krums) falling from the brownie made me wanna cry cause they'll get everywhere
So confused with the second question. The question says “collectively” but then 5 was right… but then you said 5 each… so wouldn’t 15 be correct?
No, Hermione lost 5 points, and Harry and Ron earned 5 each. So in the end, it's only 5 earned collectively
Hermione loses 5 points before Harry and Ron are awarded 5 points, so Hermione's 5 points puts them at -5, Harrys 5, would put that back to 0, and Ron's 5 would make it 5 points.
Sooo first and foremost I friggin Love your channel and only wish to help expand the universe with you. So what if the the Mirror, Pensive, and the Veil were discovered during the construction of Hogwarts in the 10th century. Ok so then also say the Peverell Brothers went to Hogwarts in the 13th century and discovered the artifacts and through magical intrusion delved into their secrets leading to the creating the Hollows. Or even making Death angry that his Veil was being messed with and went after them and Gravely underestimated them! Anyway think it over and Stay Awesome Brudda's
I will continue my hypothesis on in further towel sections
You forgot Harry used Imperio on Travers in Gringotts, and Crucio on Amacus Carrow. Both from Deathly Hallows and both in the book
And attempting against Snape at the end of HBP
11:02 the question was "when does he use them successfully?" Harry doesn't successfully use Crucio on Bellatrix. She said "you really have to mean it" because it didn't work. Harry successfully uses Crucio on Amycus Carrow in the Ravenclaw common room after Amycus spat in McGonagal's face. Harry then said he now understands what Bellatrix meant
Questions about the Cursed Child shouldn't be in these quizzes since it's not canon to the HP universe.
WELL... Rowling says its canon so... but I agree 😁 it shouldn't be
