@@toidIllorTAmI Ehhh I live with an elderly hoarder, and generally when it comes to how they live or why they get put into homes, it's often because they refuse help and insist they can still do everything themselves. It often takes the family stepping in and forcing them to go into an assisted living complex so they don't die alone at home, and then the elderly person hates them for it. I've also met plenty of elderly people who do live comfortably on their own in their home and kick butt at it well into their 90s. It entirely depends on the person's capabilities and understanding of their own physical limitations in their old age, and whether or not they're willing to accept help for the things they're not able to do. An elderly, mentally unstable, disabled person living alone in a house that's falling apart and insisting they can repair everything on their own is in fact a danger to themselves.
Police: "Jimmy, we know you've broken into several elderly women's homes in the middle of the night, demanded they take off their clothes and even robbed several of them. Don't ever do it again." Jimmy: "Ok. I won't." Police: "Case closed."
I’m a 70 year old woman. I was at lunch with friends today and we were talking about how the elderly are invisible to others around us. Obviously not really invisible but others don’t notice the elderly like they do people under 60. I think that explains why the police didn’t even realize patterns that existed and the thought of sex crimes didn’t enter their minds. It’s too easy with elders to jump to natural causes and close the case. What I find strange in life is how averse so many people are to having an autopsy done on a loved one. Even if foul play isn’t suspected, unless the person has a serious condition, I would WANT an autopsy done just so I’d know for sure and not wonder.
Hello Mrs Hersey, I read your comment and I could understand completely what you're saying. I work at an assisted living facility and I see everyday how the elderly residents don't get visits/calls/mail from even family that lives close by. I love working with elderly people. I feel that as people get older, life SHOULD get easier. But unfortunately it doesn't for majority. I pray you have love and support around you. And I promise, you're not invisible to everyone.
God bless your heart Anne! I literally go out of my way to help or just make anyone older than myself laugh. I do get funny looks at time but I agree with you so I stay and try to create small talk if I don’t get a smile but we all need human interaction and I even use my kind rescue dogs to help make others day. 🙏♥️
People have preferences about open caskets etc that are emotional and not rational. I respect those preferences because funerals are about those grieving. Myself, though, I want to be an organ donor, which interferes with those preferences. (Luckily only my brother will be involved with decisions, and he agrees with me. We’re in our forties.) To me it’s like spending tons of money on a wedding. I’d rather spend it on a house or even a honeymoon than a one day party. (Back when I had a wedding, I didn’t have that problem because I had no money, lol.) I’d rather help as many people as possible than prioritize (what in my culture is) a one day event. I wouldn’t always think about an autopsy, but will think about that more. I think you’re right about the view of the elderly. It’s easy to group people into familiar boxes and assume things because of it. Unfortunately elderly individuals are easily not really seen in the process. I think it’s great you do have people who see you.
As a child of the 1970s, it’s crazy learning about the things that went on in the world around me while I was reading 25 cent comic books and watching Saturday morning cartoons
I was born in 1970. My sisters roommate at the University of Utah, was murdered by Ted Bundy. I was still oblivious. I'm also happy I was a kid then. ✌
The only criminal thing from my childhood I really remember was the kidnapping of Jacob Wetterling. By then I was a teenager. I don't remember anything from my younger years, but I wasn't allowed to watch television, so I probably wasn't exposed to much.
I'm a child of the 80/90s and I'm feeling similar. I was allowed to stay outside until the streetlights came on. I also lived in a "safe" neighbourhood...
after being quite depressed and having no motivation to do anything, your post made me play this in the background while i do some chores ☺️ YOU are a great man!
My grandpa met Bundy while he was trying to convince a woman to follow him somewhere secluded. That monster probably failed at least a few times, and there are probably women out there who never recognized that they got away from a serial killer because they didn’t make the connection to him being caught potentially years after meeting him. Imagine that? What are the odds you’ve met a serial killer? I’m curious.
I lived right there, walked down those same streets, went to appointments at that hospital, at the time and didn't even know about his crimes until watching this video. He really did fly under the radar...
@Pa. D Fly under the radar wasn't meant to imply it was something he did, just that no one connected it or even reported on it -- I don't remember hearing about a single one of these crimes even in isolation. Just a bad choice of words on my part, I suppose.
@@alphashewolf9109 Oh wow... do you remember what you thought about it at the time? I expect most of my knowledge of such things at the time was the local news and the Oregonian, and I don't remember them covering any of the ones recognized as crimes. Maybe it was in the Argus!

Jimmy's lawyer, the one who absurdly claimed that "no grandson would be capable of carrying out such a brutal attack against his own blood," has the blood of Jimmy's future victims on his hands. Same goes for that ignorant jury.
i mean it is his job to do what he can to defend his client, though that was a pretty shit defense (I doubt he had anything else lol) the blood is definitely on the hands of the judge/jury who accepted this defense
I agree logically, but morally it is not as much of their fault. That fault will truly only lie on the perpetrator. We need to have quick capital punishment procedures if we are even going to offer it. That way, people avoid these “protection” games. If these people truly deserve to die, they should die that day. Simple as that. Almost no charges ever arise for accomplices that are found after the fact. Families like the killer’s family in the Gabby Petito case willingly harbor criminals and go unpunished. Annoying would be an understatement.
And there are people who truly believe things like that, even after countless cases have proven them wrong. "Nobody could blah blah blah...." They can, they do, they have and it's very well documented. Too many people are in denial and/or prefer to bury their heads in the ground while plugging their ears.
Agreed, that dude was not so clever in as much as what he was an excellent master manipulating either really dumb, disturbed, or highly susceptible, broken minded people....a lot of people can do that it's nothing special, only despicable and nothing to aspire to. He was just good at that, nothing else and was neither super-intelligent nor below the average IQ of a man of his socio-economic status.
It's amazing how far moderately good looks and sociopathic narcissism can take a lazy dipshit. Hell, Bundy could have been President of the United States if he hadn't been so addicted to murder - he had dabbled in conservative politics.

It’s almost unbelievable… how many more cases could exist, in which the police, victims and other factors contributed to such escalation and perpetuation of the multiple crimes of a given perpetrator 👀
This story is frustrating on so many levels due to things like his father not all him to receive mental support in addition to his stepmother not reporting the crime. I can understand wanting to move on from such a traumatic experience, but did it never occur to her that she was more than likely not his only victim? It seems to me that having lived with the man for many years and knowing the progression of his crimes that she could have foreseen some unfortunate happenings in the future. I certainly don’t blame her for his actions as it was clearly his responsibility, but who knows what could have been prevented if she had reported it. That being said I feel for all the victims of his horrendous behavior and wish them and families of the victims nothing but relief from the trauma they have all experienced. Great video as usual!
I feel moreso frustrated at Jimmy’s sister than the stepmother. One could always just want to avoid reporting this crime because they feel (and are sometimes right!) that it’ll just put them in danger. But for Jimmy’s sister to have no advocacy for her in that situation?? Very disappointing.

My grandfather was in the newspaper as a kid because, when his middle school was ordered to desegregate, a bunch of boys in his class said they were going to wait outside that next morning so they could stop the black kids from coming in. My grandfather overheard this and told them he was going to beat the shit out of anyone trying to stop black kids from coming into the school. At first, they thought he was joking and laughed, but he was the first one at school the next morning and he stared down each of those boys as they quietly entered without trying anything. His was the only school in the city that didn't have an issue that morning. When I first saw the article about all this he had framed from childhood, I asked my grandfather if his dad had voted for desegregation and he said, "Of course not. But that's how the vote went. That was the law now and I wasn't about to let those assholes embarrass us."

Reading the comments, you really did a disservice on this one. I'm not sure if it is due to lack of research or just inability to find adequate detailed info; but there are a massive amount of facts which would have put much of this into context so people didn't get the wrong idea. Unfortunately, b/c my wife was one of his victims, I'm far too familiar w/ this pos. I'm also not sure why you chose to not name the victim B.W. in the bathroom-which I won't name at this point in case you have a valid reason or request from her son/etc. The most important point which really needed to be said was that Barone was quite familiar w/ each of his victims w/ the exception of Chantee who was well known to Lenny. 2ndly, he had been on the Police Radar since Martha's murder, but due to the lack of direct evidence/witnesses/etc. there was little more the Hillsboro Police/DA could do but try to keep a 'non harassing' eye on him-defense lawyers can have that idiotic 'Constitutional' effect benefiting these scumbags & making the Law's job much more difficult-& continue investigating for more evidence. That murder would have been put far better in context had you tied in your subsequent comment regarding his loss of job having been direct related to the actions & role which Martha played in his termination; the fact of which is WHY he was on the Police Radar. 3rdly, his childhood was not quite as idyllic as you portrayed & his familial interaction between stepmother & grandmother, especially!, played a major role in his hatred for older &, again especially, elderly women. Even tho he was charming & not bad looking he had a terrible time maintaining any age appropriate relationship due to a severe inferiority complex & feeling intimidated by any attractive woman; so he tended to 'talk himself up' to the point that w/in a short period the charm wore off & the creepiness loomed front & center. Anyway, just wanted to add some facts which might put some of this in a little better context PLUS far too often the name of these serial killers takes on a prominence while the names of the victims are forgotten & I really believe that is backasswards & unless you have a specific reason for not mentioning B.W.'s name, my wife truly believes that out of respect for her it should become a part of any record into which his heinous acts are detailed/explored & far too frequently this is not the case b/c of her death being ruled a 'heart attack' even tho it was a direct result of the assault & therefore she's relegated to a footnote status-which was the sole reason my wife participated in the ID Documentary on him. She was a marvelous lady, kind & accepting to all & even on that night she had opened her home & shared some 'liquid courage' w/ him & was lending the emotional support which he decried when he came knocking on her door.
I’m terribly sorry that your wife and your community were subjected to that horrible excuse of a human. Thank you so much for the added context that even this comment alone has given the case.
3:00 I'm surprised the narrator dismisses the potential effects on a child of effectively losing their mother at a young age. Generally speaking, your mother is your world and your identity, your sense of self inextricably linked with hers to the age of around seven. Just because another female caregiver (stepmom) moved into the family home and took over that role, doesn't mean the children escaped profound trauma or potential psychological damage from their mother's abandonment. Not saying that explains him becoming a serial killer as an adult, just pointing out childhood parental abandonment is pretty much universally recognised to be devastating and deeply traumatic, whatever the circumstances!
There is a common thread in his killings. He only chose old or late middle age ladies to murder, so he had his own thing. His murders were similar, and it should've been recognized by the police. Also, by no means I wanna come up with excuses for him (ugh...🤢🤮), a primary caregiver's abrupt loss in the early years of childhood is in fact a very significant life event. The way this guy turned out by his early teenage years most likely was the exact consequence of his blood mother's sudden disappearance from his life. It imprinted and transformed into a violent, attention-seeking behavior when the hormones kicked in. Also, his choice of his victims is of great importance (I'd given it a thought or two if I'd have covered this case...) He was attracted to elderly women most possibly because they meant "mothers" to him. Vulnerable women whom he "punished" AND - in a very twisted way - tried to get some "love" from them. The most telling thing is him telling his stepmother that he "had wanted to do this for a long time." Obviously he *meant it*. His severe mother issues are apparent, and I have no idea how his mom's abruptly exiting the family was handled by his father. Mind you, NONE of these things alone turn anyone into a raging murderer, but can ignite one's pre-existing horrible character traits. ( I'm a trained behavioral therapist, but I only make guesses here just like anyone else. On the other hand, I'm not figuring out something oh so mysterious, because all the above can be absolutely legit and sensible.)
The FBI BSU would profile him by the crime scenes as a "disorganised" serial murderer. (Though, by carrying a weapon he also has "organised" traits) Approximately 1/3 of stranger killings are by "disorganised" offenders. I'd be interested to know his height and weight. Typically those who choose the elderly as victims are slightly built and choose victims that they can easily control. (Being he seemed to be an opportunistic killer without regard for consequence ie; leaving fingerprints, attacking victims who could identify him, etc; that would also place him in the "disorganised" category).
This guy makes monsters seem like child's play. I can't even wrap my mind around how beyond evil he is, and how unjust our justice system actually is. Unbelieveable.

The intro and the way you describe it seems if today we are at the same point, it makes me think of all the serial killers attacking the homeless today.

His first original name was ADOLPH??? Well, theres a reason why no one names their kids that anymore. Jeeze. What foreshadowing. In all seriousness, it happens that some are born bad. Its not common but it happens. Some people have every reason in the world to grow up to be monsters, but don’t. They turn their pain into being the opposite, to being good humans. And some have little emotional upheaval but decide being evil is much more fun, & to go against societal norms feels too exciting to resist.

There will be no autopsy on me.

Can totally relate!
Me too!!🙏🤔
I'm a child of the 80/90s and I'm feeling similar. I was allowed to stay outside until the streetlights came on. I also lived in a "safe" neighbourhood...
after being quite depressed and having no motivation to do anything, your post made me play this in the background while i do some chores ☺️ YOU are a great man!
Good for you. People may think it sounds ridiculous, but I get you. It's the getting up that's always the hardest part.
I hear you lovely lady. Keep going. We’ve got this ❤
My grandpa met Bundy while he was trying to convince a woman to follow him somewhere secluded. That monster probably failed at least a few times, and there are probably women out there who never recognized that they got away from a serial killer because they didn’t make the connection to him being caught potentially years after meeting him. Imagine that? What are the odds you’ve met a serial killer? I’m curious.
The fact that Jimmy is smiling so big, I mean he is cheesing in his jail photo, makes him all the more creepier and evil.
It makes him look like he's a simple minded country bumpkin, and I'd bet that was intentional.
I remember! Then again I live about 25 minutes away and was the FTO of one of the Washington County Deputies that transferred from our department 😉
@@alphashewolf9109 Oh wow... do you remember what you thought about it at the time? I expect most of my knowledge of such things at the time was the local news and the Oregonian, and I don't remember them covering any of the ones recognized as crimes. Maybe it was in the Argus!
This is totally aside from the terrible case but the fact that he and his wife were able to save a deposit on a home in a couple of months really shows how times have changed!
Edit. It has been 7 months since I made this comment. 7 months and I'm still getting replies where people assume I'm some homeless Gen z degenerate crying that I can't afford a house. Stop making assumptions about a comment that is nothing more than an observation on how times have changed. And no, it isn't the ONLY thing I took away from this video.
Definitely! It is sooo hard to get a head start nowadays. I come from middle class, blue collar family and my parents purchased their first home before they were 21 years old! I finally purchased my first home 3 years ago. I'm 35.

It's victim blaming culture
This never dying myth that Ted Bundy was super intelligent keeps on rolling.
It’s infuriating, honestly
He wasn’t super intelligent. He was a college drop out.
He was super narcissistic scum!
Unbelievable how incompetent the police and court system were. They should be ashamed.

Geez, I love your show!!
Thank you so much for all the hard and ikky work you have to do to produce these amazing videos!!
Best channel ever! 😊
Many rape victims feel as if it's their fault in some way, which means they wouldn't know that there might be other victims.
Ya that was very sick. Obviously, very strange family dynamics. She raised him... just gross.

People like your grandfather are the ones I point out whenever I hear that old "product of their time" excuse. Thank for sharing!

Awesome something to listen to whilst working!
Excellent content!!!
Your channel is so darn bingeable!!!! 🍿
(Though, by carrying a weapon he also has "organised" traits)
Approximately 1/3 of stranger killings are by "disorganised" offenders.
I hadn't heard this one and I was stationed at Fort Lewis, now JBLM, for a long time. This is nuts.
It's really interesting how so many killers die young on death row. I feel like it just almost has to do with just giving up on life
They can no longer fulfill their sick fantasies of control and rage so of course they feel they have no reason to live and die inside quickly.
I have been noticing that, too! So many seem to die of heart attacks at like, 50. Oh well. :/
Hostility can cause heart attacks. These people are undeniably hostile.
It's not like they're getting regular checkups and going to the doctor whenever they don't feel well.

I thought that was a very odd name choice since he was born in 1960!
I dropped my phone at the intro when you said “elderly women” I’ve heard many stories but this is monsters so what did I really expect???
