Okay, but can we just talk for a second about the little details that indicate the kind of man that Darren was? When his daughter goes missing, he asks her friend to search her room to see if anything was out of place. Think about the implications of that. He both respected her privacy and also acknowledged that he wouldn't actually be the best person to know the state of her bedroom on average, so he deferred to someone who would. A pure class act.
Edit: It's really wild how many people have gotten this far in life without understanding that shit is complicated and nothing is perfect. It might make you feel better to just throw people into "good" and "bad" boxes, but that's not really how it is and we all know it.

He does seem like a good dad. I was touched when he made her a pizza late at night. You know he really loved and respected his daughter.

If he was such a class act that stepson and baby mama wouldn't have been in my house. Regardless of what the reason was. When you can't tell that the son is extremely bent you definitely can't see the forest for the trees or in this case, for the new grandchild. You don't sacrifice your daughter to be grand parents and put up with nut case kids just to see grandchildren . I'm not cold, I have 3 but my home isn't going to be torn apart because one of them has a baby now. Shit! It would be GTFO and don't come back until you have a soul and a conscience.

My name's Jemma and Becky and Danny are my half brother and sister, Darren is my Dad, Anjie my step Mum and unfortunately Nathan my step brother. I find it really difficult saying "my step brother murdered my half sister" when people ask about it, but it's my dad who has given me the strength to keep going. He has given all of the strength to keep going. Some people question why my dad stayed with Anjie after what happened, but my God the relationship between them is stronger now, than it has ever been and they just keep getting stronger and closer every day that passes by. They're an inspiration and great role models. I'm very blessed to have them.
I have watched many documentaries and videos over the time since Becky's been gone and this one is by far the best one. You have really told the story well and shown who Darren Galsworthy really is as a father, as a husband, as a person and that is an amazing dad to me and Danny, a loving husband to Mumma Bear Anjie and he's an amazing person all round. I am a very proud daughter and feel very lucky to have both my dad and Anjie.
Thank you for showing and telling Darren Galsworthy the man. Not just 'The father of Becky Watts'. Love you Dad n Anj xx

@Thou Swell same. I mean, with the way the justice system works, just the same as how normal it is for some guilty people to be deemed Innocent by courts despite the truth & go on to enjoy the rest of their lives, there are innocent people deemed guilty. Even in this modern age where DNA evidence, GPS, and surveillance cameras have provided this proof that never used to exist that's set so many people free, those same technologies can sometimes be misunderstood or applied in ways that do not deliver Justice...
If I was stuck spending the rest of my days in a women's prison for an an awful crime I didn't have anything to do with, being abused by people around me for no special reason except that they think I'm a lying disgusting piece of trash, & worst of all: thinking about how much more alone in this world my little boy is going to be for the rest of his life as well 😭 having no way to protect him or provide him with anything except my mere existence outside of his reach?
I don't know how long I could remain sane enough to stop myself from lashing out at child murderers (women that have been proven beyond the shadows of any doubts, especially anyone that brags about it). Oftentimes when people are told they are something awful for long enough, and the years have gone by with hope staying nonexistent, it changes things in them that cannot be repaired. I can see how women in situations like that come to believe that's all they can contribute to society anymore, & disregard whatever inhibitions kept them from crossing that line into "her face ain't pregnant" territory on the Shauna's of their small, sad worlds

I guess his father was laughing at his misery when it was learned that he had been attacked by a fellow inmate. And I guess this father had lost empathy towards the criminal he no longer considered his "son". And another guess is that inmates harm other inmates who have been found to harm or even kill children. Is there an obvoius reason as to why people don't have empathy towards heinous criminals? Because if there is, no surprise.

@@amazonmandy I think you’re being a bit harsh on them given how things turned out. Siblings fight under the best of circumstances, let alone when integrating separate families with traumatic pasts. Nathan’s behavior was abhorrent and additional steps could have been taken, sure. But it’s easy to point fingers from the outside. It’s clear that her parents cared for her and fought for her mental and physical well being. It’s a big step to ban your son from being around the family. They probably didn’t see all of the abuse first hand and Becky may not have accurately communicated the extent of it. We may be privy to information in hindsight that they didn’t have at the time. And even if they did they may have hoped they could intervene and change his behavior over time, or that having a baby would make him improve.
I’m not prepared to denounce them for being hesitant to permanently remove a member of their family who in their mind was also struggling and also needed help and support. You have to remember Nathan was their son just as much as Becky was their daughter. And people let go of those attachments with extreme hesitation. So while yes, they could have done more, I think your characterization is unfair and colored more by the outcome of this situation than the circumstances themselves.

    • @drfrankendoodle
      @drfrankendoodle 2 года назад +4

@@amazonmandy I agree that further action certainly should have been taken regarding the obvious signs that their son was a pedophile or at the very least made extremely questionable decisions surrounding underage girls. If not the police they definitely should have taken steps to get him in some sort of mental health counseling. So we’re in agreement there. The fact that he just sent him away with underage girls in his car and took the stance of “if you have to be a pedophile don’t do it at my house” is ridiculous.
I understand it’s cut and dry for you on the subject of Becky and I respect your opinion, but I really can’t pass judgement considering there’s a lot we don’t know about what they were actually aware of. And even assuming they were aware of everything, he was verbally abusive in that he put her down and physically abusive in that he grabbed her and yelled at her. That’s all we know based on this video. Maybe that’s enough to ban him from the house. Maybe they felt it was bad but that they could still work it out with him. Maybe they didn’t want to lose being able to see their grandchild. I feel like there are a lot of points to consider.
However, I feel like characterizing them as deficient or terrible parents in light of everything they did to help Becky get thru her issues with her weight and school is unfair. Just because they failed in one aspect to better protect her from her brother (with disastrous consequences) doesn’t invalidate everything else they did. We just don’t know the extent of what went on and only have a limited view based on what Giles shared in his video. Unless you’re referencing other more comprehensive sources I’m unaware of.
I’m just not prepared to condemn them. Especially since they stand in stark contrast to the awful waste of skin parents we often see featured on this channel. I respect your opinion and I’m open to further discourse, but it seems we may just be on opposite sides of this issue which is fine.

Ive heard this case told multiple times. And in my opinion, Nathan was so mean and hateful toward Becky bc he was attracted to her. Saw her as unobtainable and off limits (weird when off limits is in the same sentence with Nathan, i know) but he couldn't have her and so he hated her for it. And the way he treated her was kind of like how a boy who likes the little girl will pull her pigtails on the playground. He just took it to the extreme. Nathan was never in foster care. It is also bizarre that you would think that being in the foster care system as a child would be a warning sign that someone could become a pedophile murderer; there were warning signs, and they were his continued demonstration of being attracted to young girls. The father's children that were actually in the foster care system would have turned out fine had it not been for Nathan's evil actions. He is a grown man, and his "trauma" of living with his grandma for a while should not tint your view of him after murdering and dismembering his step-sister with plans to rape her. The loss of this beautiful young life and the lifelong hell that this loving family must now endure is soul crushing, and is a horrible tragedy. This senseless crime really gets under my skin for many reasons, so I'm going to do my best to refrain from going on a long rant. I will say this though: The deadbeat and the Hoare should have gotten *FAR* more harsh sentences. Especially when it comes to the Hoare... She is just as guilty as the deadbeat. There's so much evidence that shows premeditation on her end, and it's easily provable too. The U.K. and most of the E.U. countries are too soft on criminals, especially if they happen to be female... Smh.

Literally he should’ve just gone to counseling and talked to a therapist about it if it bothered him that much though! He should be blaming his abusive/absentee father for causing his life to be like that and not be blaming someone under his age who had to be around an abusive parent and be victim to abuse for their early years
Becky (a three year old at the time IIRC) was an abused child who basically had to be parented by her older brother, since this guy didn’t want to be a brother to anybody but HER brother ( 6:38 ) … so what is everyone else supposed to do about it? Break up? Split up the children the dad just worked so hard to gain custody over? * *Let the two of them go back to an abusive mother full time???* *
4:20 LBR kids have survived worse and grown up to be adults who cope without grooming minors and killing their family (with the groomed, now pregnant, minor) over childhood resentment and trauma, they both CHOSE to deal with life’s innate average hardships like THAT… plenty of people have complicated family dynamics or are in foster care, clearly the two other siblings were on track for well adjusted functioning adulthood (one was even recovering from a disease/disorder that has a 20% fatality rate, talk about mental fortitude and endurance that’s it right there)

I appreciate that you recognize the psychological factors... ive worked in outpatient PT for over 10 years and have seen many fibromyalgia patients- it most definitely is a psychological condition that IMHO goes along with particular personality traits in every single patient I've seen "diagnosed" with it (which usually is the result of them ruling any structural or chemical cause and throwing their hands up). pain is subjective, not a single 80+ year doesn't deal with some level of constant pain and yet many appear happy as a clam and are very active. when most ppl with fibro experience their flare-ups, they can still function fine structurally, but claim they're in loads of pain. contrast to someone who just herniated a disc 7mm lifting with bad form and they can barely move without extreme jolts of back pain and shooting jolts down their extremitys.
personally I don't buy the fibro diagnosis as an explanation. just 2 cents from someone's who's seen a lot of it.
ps. this doesn't mean things like PT can't help with the pain experienced. but rather some type of mental coaching should be a major part of it at least

I do wish the writers had given more emphasis to the reality of it, though. I agree that some people use it as an excuse because of its amorphous source, but they described it in a way that made it sound as if it's a psychosomatic disorder, when there's more and more evidence pointing to helpful physical therapies (medications, handling nerve inflammation, etc.). Please note, I do not have Fibromyalgia, but I have two close friends who do.

Love your channel! I wanted to share that now there are more specific methods to diagnose Fibromyalgia, including blood work, co-occurring diagnoses, the presence of unique symptoms, and (as you mentioned) other testing to exclude diseases with the same symptoms. The reason it takes longer to diagnose than other illnesses is because it's a neurological disease that affects the central nervous system - it's not something a doctor can feel or x-ray or biopsy. Similar to mental health illnesses, a patient's self-reported symptoms are analyzed as part of the diagnostic process, but doctors do know how to identify which self-reported physical & mental symptoms indicate someone might have FM and that additional testing is required. Years ago, when less was known about FM the disease was heavily stigmatized as being fake - just like what oftens occurs with mental health disorders & other "invisible" physical conditions. Hopefully, as we continue learning more about FM and how to diagnosis it the lingering stigma surrounding the disease will lessen so that folks who are living with it won't feel ashamed or anxious about having/sharing their diagnosis and being treated for it. I have FM myself, so I try to share info about it when I can. 😊 Once again, love the channel & take care!✌️

@@ATsbees Kudos to your mom! Well, it’s hard for the doctors to keep up with everything, not to mention a layperson. I give an ‘A’ for effort. ☺️

@@nunceccemortiferiscultu7826 you're a monster. Fibromyalgia is a waking nightmare. It makes you feel powerless. Its degrading, it causes you to ask for help constantly. I haven't been able to play sport for almost 2 years, ive gained heaps of weight. It's completely horrible. I just want my life back. Its very real.

My daughter was kidnapped and taken across the country at two y/o. I didn’t go to work for almost a week, until I couldn’t afford to stay home anymore. The day I went back, detectives called me to tell me they were about to raid the house they believed she was in.
I was scolded when I answered the phone call, when I made the phone call to make sure a trusted family member would be there to collect her, and for days after. Needless to say, I left that place. I’ll never understand how adults with children wouldn’t sympathize with a mother who had her child taken.

Well you know what our society is like. Women "are just being dramatic."

I listen to this over and over and it breaks my heart...seriously Nathan was jealous of his step-sister because HIS mom became her mom but HER dad became his dad and that was ok. I get he felt reject to some extent living with his grandmother while his step sibilings got to live at home, but they got stuck in foster care after THEIR mother neglected them....ugh so aggravating.
