My favorite guitar player ever playing my favorite song ever? I’m not crying, I swear
Sir Matt Johnson
Sir Johnny Marr
Unbelievable how good this song is performed live, how true to the original recording on everyone’s part (with the exception of the missing flute) - yet still it brings something new and vibrant. These guys are all such talented musicians I want to cry. The piano solo kills me every time I hear it, and to watch it done live in this video is awesome. My next goal is to learn to play it myself! 🎶💙
Thumbs up if you recognize the guitar god playing lead in this song.
simple minds ??
I recognize guitar 🎸 player Johnny Marr. Beautiful song! The only thing missing is the flute.
The one & only Johnny Mar, from The Smiths.
Johnny Marr
Johnny Marr ❤
Its Johnny Marr on Guitar! 🤘
Oh how I used to love this tune. Painted a watercolor painting to go with it including the lyrics
Beautiful song.. Johnson and Marr quite the genius...
Good band get it back to gether
As was Matt Johnson - his lyrics could be both cutting and beautiful at the same time. That said adding Marr after few albums gave The The a grit they were missing.
Johnny Marr he's always in the best place. God bless him.
Wonderful song!
And, of course, happy birthday Johnny Marrrrrrr 💟✌
This first knocked me out at age 36 in 1990.......and I'd forgotten all about this one. What a joy to get knocked out all over again at age 68 in '23. Let me tel you, as you age, if something moved you back in the day, it's not a certainty that you wont dig as you age. This piano will still part me down the middle when I'm 98....if I make it that long. I'm serious! God Bless us all. jbeinarizona
This song made it into my top 10 of all time beloved songs. Dang, such artistry. Makes me swoon.
Now that's a band
If kids today would really pay attention, they would understand why this music is so superior to their music. They truly don't write 'em like this anymore.
Daft comment 12 years ago and still a daft comment. Still lots of good music around, just harder to find..
Today they don't know how to write in any language, let alone music! LMAO
This is why these guys were the SHIT. Blessya, boyz. Good noyz.
You can`t do any better than this.
JOHNNY!!!
Incredible keyboard work. For a fan of popular music, this level of skull was a joy to see live. Truly a special moment
lined up for tickets for their '89 perth concert hall show. Got front row, centre. Best concert of my life. Opened with sweet bird of truth. Unforgetable
Awesomeness! Matt, Johnny and the Boys
goosebumps every time!
Right there with ya! The spooky greatness of this song gets under your skin (where the rain can get in) and into your broken soul. 😄💙🎶
@ggh7664 You are 100% spot on my friend. One of the greatest songs ever written by one of the most most talented musicians to ever grace this Earth. You cannot compare Matt Johnson's song writing abilities and instrumental talent with today's drivel. Ever since the year 2000, music as a whole has disintegrated, apart from a few bands that were able to remain independent from the commercial stranglehold of today.
It sounds so perfect... so nice...
when the put me in the ground, this will be playing.
what a performance!!!!
89 barrowland glasgow one of the best night's in my life.
Ohhhh Yes,great Music !
This was shot at the Royal Albert Hall in july 1990, not 1989. I was there :-)
Jesus Christ this is amazing!
Pure love! Thank you very much, kind Sir!
I was nearly there, in London, July 1990, wanted to go see it but my friends wouldnt go! missed out! in hindsight, should have just gone on my todd!
Genius
Beautifully preformed.
Grande pezzo, grande gruppo
ITS a great concert.Jhonny Marr great.
This brings me back...thank you for sharing and thanks Matt Johnson.
@ggh7664, to be fair, there was boat loads of crap music in the '80's too. As for todays music, there are many great artists out there, fortunately, with the advent of the internet the good stuff is much more accessible/discoverable than it was back in the day. cheers!
Although I’m an 80s music devotee, I have to agree... there was lots of crap music in the 80s too (just think Huey Lewis and the News, aggghh! 😂); and today you can find so much awesome music on Spotify and RUclips... What was amazing about the 80s though is that they did it all without the technology available today. In truly great bands like The The, it’s pure musical talent. These days talent can be replaced by automation. It’s not the same.
Офигенное соло!
Johnny didn't write this song, yet here he is, totally owning the tune
he has that way with his playing
CLASS
Muito bom perfeito
Awesome! I saw them on this tour in Seattle!Wonderful show
I am green with jealousy!
@Co0O Thanks. I'd forgotten how long that tour ran for.
holy actual fuck
I listen to 90% rock and metal but The The is my favourite band of all time. This is an amazing live performance of one of the greatest songs of the 80s. Great band and piano solo but it’s not quite hit the raw energy Jools Holland brought to it.
me too!
loko!
Timless class A
Com johny marr
Where was this recorded? And exactly when? i saw the Mind Bomb tour in Boston, and this superb video is REALLY taking me back.
This was the same tour taken from the VHS tape, "The The vs. The World." I saw them twice in NYC in 89 and 90. I think this was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall.
What year / venue did you see the Mind Bomb tour show? Was it at The Orpheus? So jealous!
i know exactly Larissa! me too, wont make that mistake again! neil
Which Ramon is playing bass?
