The fact that its called Reus is not a coincidence, the makers of the game are Abbey Games and are in/from Utrecht in the Netherlands.
Fun fact, the first Reus game was a small student project which got them a C- because the teacher didn't like it that much. The teacher thought the game mechanics were too complicated for anyone to enjoy.

You needed 3 lv of science. In taiga you have an elemental that buffs if it is adjacent to the firs. Who in turn buff themselves when adjacent to science base yield aka the mineral.
Rugged is just a value for taiga. Every mineral and predator gives 2 rugged. Every food base yield looses you 1 rugged. Copper is super easy to get to its 90 bonus.
