- CB750 Engine Damage / Bent Forks / 3 Cylinder Bliss And More! This weeks update has more CB750 action with bad news on two bikes. The CB750 chopper is getting a ton of work done but we have now discovered the forks are bent and there is no simple solution. The CB750 cafe is down a cylinder with mechanical damage that we will have to diagnose. Beyond that there is a beautiful Yamaha XS750 triple in the shop for basic work.

So with this video I put in more clips of when work was actually happening instead of just a 1 take like the previous weeks. It does jump around and cut because of that but you do see more. Do you like this style more or less than previous update videos? They are not going to be high-polish well edited videos so I definitely wont be doing music or anything so keep that in mind. Don't forget to check out the Distinguished Gentlemans Ride! Thanks for watching!
It's fine. Video editing is hard work. This feels more real. Long-form builds are cool to watch too. There's your politician style answer. I just like your videos haha.
@@striker1553 haha I'll take it!
There's some one here in CT selling a 78 cb750f. Thought about it but I'm married lmao😂
Take the forks to a shop and have them pressed straight!
@@bobsbarnworkshop7542 Already fixed!
Riding in my first DGR this year. As a survivor of Prostate Cancer, I appreciate everyone's efforts to raise awareness and research funding.
Good luck on those forks!
Glad you're here! Thanks for being a part of it!
So awesome you're a host of the St Louis DGR! I'm participating in the Cologne (Germany) Rides since 2018 and love the idea of supporting a good cause while having fun riding (and dressing dapper) 😎
Cheers!
🤘🤘
Forks can be straightened fairly easily using a press and some 2x4s with Vs cut in them, and a hard plastic piece on the press plunger. You can feel the bend as you rotate the tube, get the high spot and press it a bit past straight. Rinse and repeat. You will be surprised at the result.
"Optimist, pessimist", LOL! Ive never heard of The Distinguished Gentlemens Ride. Really great cause. Maybe next year I can find a local chapter to join in for the day. Thanks BJ.
It's all about perspective! 😎
I absolutely love watching your video as it helps me relax. I was not aware of the Gentleman's Ride which I think is fantastic - I suffer from depression and anxiety so thank you for doing your part ❤ I unfortunately don't have a bike. I did have 3 bikes in the late 70s - Honda XL 125, Yamaha XS 250 and Honda Super Dream 250. My all time favourite bike is Honda CBX 1000 so I am looking forward to seeing your video on the rebuild of your CBX 1000. God bless you. Christopher from the UK 😊
Well thanks Chris! You definitely aren't alone in your struggles so know that.
I had some fork tubes professionally straightened a couple of times. Worked fine.
I'm thinking I will give it a shot. I just can't have the bike stay on the lift which sucks
@@BrickHouseBuilds it’s a while back now but pretty sure they rolled them in a press.
@@BrickHouseBuilds If you’ve got a press, some decent 6x4 timber, a plastic shaped pad for the press, and a DTI, you can straighten the fork legs in an hour. Just be sure that there aren’t any cracks.
However, if you have any doubts, no lawyer on the planet will get you out of your liability if something goes very wrong for the next owner.
Peace 🏴
@@G58 already have it done
I had a 1971 CB750 chopper, I bought it from the local Honda shop that way! It had a court jester scene painted on the tank, brown suede king/ queen seat, extended forks. I put on 4 into 2 shorty headers, high rise handlebars, trident sissy bar. If you sat on it, held the front brake, you could see the forks flex! Wouldn’t take too much of a bump to bend them like yours!
Awesome!
Raw less polished edited videos are just as good as ones that have music etc, we just love the content, I actually prefer this style, what I like on your channel is you show as much as you can what your actually doing as most of your audience will liking building bikes themselves and pick up a lot tips and tricks, other channels only show finished products and I know I quickly lose interest on those sorts of channels
Well I appreciate the feedback!
I'm in love with this bike since '70s. Also, the CB400 Super Sport in yellow was my obsession.
A yellow 400f is iconic
the question regarding the chopper has to be why and how did those fork tubes get bent? Is the geometry wrong or are those tubes not strong/thick enough? A question you must address before commiting further resources into what could become a re-occuring problem and more importantly a critical safety issue.
With 50k on the bike I am assuming it had some very hard bumps or jumps at some point in its history. Geometry wouldn't bend forks as it would take a lot of force. We won't know if they were bent forward or backwards so it's hard to say what really happened
@@BrickHouseBuilds After researching my fears I agree with you. There seems to be little to no evidence of bent fork tubes due to structural failure. Most instances are , as you stated , due to accidents or abuse.
Love the shirt choice today buddy - thanks so much!
I mean I only wear the best in mens fashion!
Love it. My buddy recently picked up a rusty but trusty 1969 S65 and I am looking forward to stripping it down and restoring it for him.
That will be fun!
I Love the XS750. I own a 77 XS750 myself. They have such a cool sound. No other bike sounds like a triple.🔥❤️😊
Agreed!
I can't think of how many times I straightened slightly tweaked fork tubes in a hydraulic press during my motorcycle mechanic years. Piece of cake, not hard to do at all, just double check with dial indicator and easy to find bent spot by turning the tube in wooden v-blocks.
Gentleman's Ride would be very cool to do, unfortunately, I've had to make the sad decision to hang up my helmet & gloves due to a stroke last November, on blood thinners now, so don't want to risk coming off the bike and bleeding out all over the place. No lasting damage, thank God!
Great video, direct and to the point! Thanks man!
I actually straightened them up. Much easier than expected @
@@BrickHouseBuilds cool!
I'm riding in my first DGR ride this year 🥸
Heck yeah!
Gonna have to do something about them bent forks. Good to see you have everything under control. Enjoyed the video BJ, and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Actually already fixed the forks! Wasn't as difficult as I expected
Frank's Forks, aka Forking by Frank, can make you a pair of fork tubes. The company has been around forever. Or, as already mentioned, you can get them straightened.
I've been trying to get ahold of them for years. They have never answered the phone or returned an email. Have tried many times
Cool update .interesting projects happening, CB 750 chopper, give that the chop.guess im getting old🧐
I know it's not everyone's flavor but it's a cool snapshot in time
Nice cause. Will check it out
🤘🤘
I had a 1978 XS750 Yamaha in my day. I traded it for a 1981 Suzuki GS 1100E. I would enjoy seeing one on your channel some time.
A triple of 1100E?
Also, the XS 400 had so many vibrations that everything was on rubber. Also the steering rod had rubber to reduce the crazy vibrations, something that makes you believe that it was broken. lol.
I had 3 xs750's as my first bikes. 3 into 1 header helped alot. Lots of fun without the baffle. Just did the cbr900rr fork swap on my cx500c just need to mount the headlight and gauges
The 850 I did I built a 3 into 1 with a cone muffler and it was the best sounding thing ever!
Ah yes the rare and desirable CB750 triple.
💀💀💀 yeah it full triple on us lol
I thought this would be fun to do but I'm booked solid on the 19th already. Next year I guess.
there is one of these bike forsale in thailand .. Pattaya , about #20,000 AUD. 67,000 klm. original one owner bike
YAMAHA GX750 is my favorite motorcycle.
Oh man I forgot about those!
Well Well Well, Here is ~ MASTER BJ! A brand new video. Now on the edge of my seat. Swinging your Light Saber there in the shop. Oh yea! And promoting the Gentlemen's Ride. How cool is that! 💥👍💥. ~~~~. Your Padawan learner. ~ Mr. Not Worthy, from New Hampshire. ~~~~. All good man!
🙏🙏
If you have a press, you can straighten those forks.
That's the goal right now
I have seen fork tubes straightened with V blocks and a hydraulic press . Of course a dial indicator is needed . Might be a solution ...
Press is ready! Testing today
A lot going on mate I’m sure you will fix them forks let’s face it they will be better than they were I would give it a try all the best to you and Seth take care 👍👌❤️🏍️🏍️🏁🏁😀
That's that optimistic approach 🤘
@@BrickHouseBuilds for sure lol 👍
Man that shop is sick! When did you get in there? I just watched the video of the GS550 rebuild lapse, and it was all in your small home garage. Nice shop!
Thank ya! I've been in here about 8 months. Here is a full playlist going over it's transformation Building My Ultimate Motorcycle Shop!: ruclips.net/p/PLerq_C5Llt2zN5QS7iN4EPphKAcm9qvuF
@@BrickHouseBuilds thanks man! Love the videos. Keep it up.
I have a Cappy's frame kit that I will send you for free if you like. Install that on the 750 so you don't have to remove the engine to remove the top end. Will make a great video as well.
I'll likely do one of those on a future 750 build as I like the idea of them a lot
Dude ur cx500 was on the bearded mechanics channel and his newest video is inspired by it🤙
Yeah I saw that!
Yama cyl 3 looks little blue. Might wanna peep the spark plug for lean running cylinder 😉
*header
1 and 3 are blue. That's why I did the sync as it definitely wasn't balanced load wise
@@BrickHouseBuilds great job!
Get the stanchions straightened, as long as the leg isn`t creased they should be able to be trued better than manufactured spec
That's the goal
They have a pill for the fork problem
😂😂😂😂 this wins the internet for today!
Do you have yearly vehicle tests like we do here in the uk?.
Each state is different but most have either 1 or 2 year inspection periods
There’s some RUclips video showing 3rd world fellows straightening forks . Pretty cool.
half bent or half straight ?? That is the question
Fair question!
I would leave the fork tubes clocked in the optimist way giving the most stretch as possible!
I like your way of thinking!
Those forks are toast. There's a big container at my local dump, marked "metal". That should be their next home in your towns version of that. I'd put standard forks on it, & since the frame is bent, it needs one of those as well. Don't those motorcycle junk yards have lots of frames? And if the frame was modified for a chopper to move the forks forward, it needs to go anyway.
Who said the frame is bent? The neck isn't modified
@@BrickHouseBuilds I must have it confused with the one you had the laser level on around the rear and found out it was twisted. If the neck isn't modified, I'd put standard forks on it.
@tedstriker754 oh that was the rear hoop on the cage not being centered. The chopper is keeping long forks though as thats the point
Is it a chopper or does it just have extended forks?
Isn't that what a chopper is? 😉
👍
🤘👍
Hey are you still promoting the X21 wiring systems? Was keen for a try instead of MUnit but the x21 seems to have disappeared from the internet.
Just check out nwtcycletronic.com as they have newer versions than the x21.
@@BrickHouseBuilds yeah they say “NWT CYCLETRONIC PRODUCTS are no longer available in your region” on the website.
